SiO2-Encapsulated ZnO@ZIF-8 Coated Fabric for Passive Radiative Cooling

        Jianhua Zhou,Zhuanli Niu,Anguo Xiao,Xiang Li 한국섬유공학회 2023 Fibers and polymers Vol.24 No.12

Materials with passive daytime radiative cooling (PDRC) have drawn more attention as a result of their potential for energy savings. We prepared SiO2-encapsulated ZnO@ZIF-8 (ZZS) particles and a radiative cooling coating containing ZZS particles. Owing to the polyhedron structure and the phonon-polarization resonance of ZZS particles, the ZZS fabric coating could reflect sunlight with 83% and radiate heat to outer space with 0.96. Compared with the ambient air, its average temperature decreased by 6.4 °C, and the human body under direct sunlight could avoid overheating 3.9 °C. In addition, the ZZS coated fabric after rubbing still had good PDRC and its average temperature increased by 1.38℃ higher than the original ZZS coated fabric. Owing to good PDRC property, hydrophobicity, mechanical properties and simple methods, the widespread usage of ZZS coated fabric for personal thermal management appears to be promising.

Preparation and Microstructure Control of PMDA/ODA Polyimide Hollow Fibers

        Meifeng Xiao,Jianhua Li,Huanyu Lei,Mengying Zhang,Hongqing Niu,Dezhen Wu,Xiaodong Wang 한국섬유공학회 2020 Fibers and polymers Vol.21 No.5

Poly(4,4'-oxydiphenylene pyromellitimide) (PMDA/ODA) hollow fiber membranes with regular morphologieshave been successfully prepared through a two-step dry-jet wet spinning method. The morphologies of polyimide (PI) hollowfibers were regulated via adjusting the major spinning parameters, including dope/bore flow rate ratio, bore fluidcomposition, coagulation bath temperature and air gap distance. SEM results show that the morphologies of PI hollow fibersstrongly depended on the spinning conditions, and fibers with regular asymmetric structures were finally obtained. The fiberwall thickened with the increase of dope/bore flow rate ratio, and the fibers could well self-support when the dope/bore flowrate ratio ranged from 3:1 to 4:1. While higher DMAc content in the bore fluid was conducive to the formation of finger-likevoids, reduced amount of DMAc would result in smaller finger-like voids and thereby lower overall porosities as well asbetter mechanical properties. Moreover, the finger-like voids and surface defects could be effectively prevented by loweringthe coagulation bath temperature or extending the air gap distance. Gas separation and mechanical properties of the hollowfibers were found closely related to these morphological changes. On such basis, regular PI hollow fibers with differentmicrostructures and Young’s modulus up to 1040 MPa were successfully fabricated. The prepared polyimide hollow fibersare promising candidates for fine separation under high temperature and high pressure or can be employed as the support ofcomposite membranes.

Innovative Synthesis of Durable Polylactic Acid-Thermoplastic Polyurethane Elastomer Composites for Three-Dimensional Printing Applications

        Xiaojie Zhang,Jianhua Xiao,김진국,오정석,이진호 한국고분자학회 2023 폴리머 Vol.47 No.6

The functionalization of polylactic acid (PLA) is examined by grafting cardanol onto its main backbone chain through a dynamic reaction to improve compatibility between PLA and thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU). Cardanol-grafted PLA (PLAC)/TPU blend-based filaments for fused deposition modeling are tested using melt extrusion. Effects of PLAC grafting ratio on the rheological properties and thermal transformation of the PLAC/TPU blends and the mechanical properties of three-dimensional-printed parts are investigated. A decrease in the glass transition temperature and crystallinity from differential scanning calorimetry are observed with increasing cardanol concentration, implying improved miscibility between PLAC and TPU and as a result, PLAC/TPU blends exhibit improved toughness.

Identification of BmELP as an interaction partner of Bmtutl-519 in the silkworm, Bombyx mori

        Zhu Feng,Gao Jianhua,Qiao Keyuan,Xiao Shengyan,Bai Xingrong,Kang Meiling,Ming Dongfeng 한국응용곤충학회 2021 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.24 No.3

The Turtle protein could act as a signaling receptor or function as a membrane-bound ligand for an unknown receptor. Alternatively, the Turtle protein could function as a co-receptor in a multi-protein receptor complex. Earlier work on the function of Bmtutl-519 suggested that it may act as a cell surface receptor or as a regulatory factor in the infection process of Nosema bombycis. To further investigate the function of Bmtutl-519 in the process of microsporidian infection and the possible regulatory pathways involved, we performed yeast twohybrid screening on a silkworm midgut cDNA library and identified a Bombyx mori extensin-like protein/ BmELP as a binding partner of Bmtutl-519. The interaction between Bmtutl-519 and BmELP was verified by GST pull-down and co-immunoprecipitation assays. Quantitative RT-PCR analysis showed that BmELP was commonly expressed in all of the examined tissues of the silkworm, and the expression was highest in the head. Moreover, BmELP was expressed throughout the entire development period, and the lowest levels of expression were observed at the egg stage. The results of infection experiments showed that N. bombycis infection caused the upregulation of BmELP expression, especially in vitro. Taken together, our findings may provide new insights into the roles of BmELP and Bmtutl-519 in microsporidian infection.

        SiLun Peng,ZhiHao Xu,JianHua Li,Feng Xiao,Xu Zhang,ShiXin Song,Da Wang,ChunYang Qi,JianFeng Wang 한국자동차공학회 2022 International journal of automotive technology Vol.23 No.2

This study analyzes the problem of adaptive cruise control of vehicles in different driving cycles and divides diverse weight coefficient intervals for the vehicles under the different driving cycles to improve the adaptability of the vehicles in various environments. This paper first describes the driving environment of the adaptive cruise vehicle, and a model prediction algorithm with fixed weight coefficients is established to control the vehicle state. Then, a neural network is established to identify the vehicle driving cycles, the weight intervals are divided in accordance with different driving cycles, and the weight value is dynamically adjusted through fuzzy control. Lastly, the variable weight coefficients of different driving cycles are combined with the model prediction controller. The software cosimulation shows that the method designed in this paper plays a positive role in the fuel economy of adaptive cruise.

Hypoxia-induced circRNF13 promotes the progression and glycolysis of pancreatic cancer

        Zhao Qiuyan,Zhu Zhonglin,Xiao Wenqin,Zong Guanzhao,Wang Chuanyang,Jiang Weiliang,Li Kai,Shen Jie,Guo Xingya,Cui Jianhua,Guo Lihong,Wan Rong 생화학분자생물학회 2022 Experimental and molecular medicine Vol.54 No.-

Pancreatic cancer (PC) is one of the most malignant tumors. Rapid progression and distant metastasis are the main causes of patient death. Hypoxia is a hallmark of multiple cancers and is involved in tumor biology. However, little is known about the roles of circRNAs in glycolysis and hypoxia-mediated progression of PC. Here, the expression pattern of hypoxia-related circRNAs was analyzed using RNA sequencing. A unique circRNA termed circRNF13 was found to be upregulated in PC tissues and may be a potential prognostic indicator. HIF-1α and EIF4A3 are involved in regulating the biogenesis of circRNF13. Furthermore, circRNF13 was validated to exert a stimulative effect on cell proliferation, angiogenesis, invasion and glycolysis. Importantly, we found that circRNF13 promoted PDK3 levels by acting as a miR-654-3p sponge, thus promoting the PC malignant process. Collectively, our results reveal that hypoxia-induced circRNF13 mediated by HIF-1α and EIF4A3 promotes tumor progression and glycolysis in PC, indicating the potential of circRNF13 as a prognostic biomarker and therapeutic target for PC.

Apoptosis induction by alantolactone in breast cancer MDA-MB- 231 cells through reactive oxygen species-mediated mitochondrion-dependent pathway

        Li Cui,Weiquan Bu,Jie Song,Liang Feng,Tingting Xu,Dan Liu,Wenbo Ding,Jianhua Wang,Changyang Li,Binge Ma,Yi Luo,Ziyu Jiang,Chengcheng Wang,Juan Chen,Jian Hou,Hong-mei Yan,Lei Yang,Xiao-bin Jia 대한약학회 2018 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.41 No.3

Alantolactone is a sesquiterpene lactone isolatedfrom Inula helenium L. Although alantolactone possessesanti-inflammation and apoptosis-induction activities, theunderlying mechanism of anti-cancer effect on humanbreast cancer cells remains largely unknown. In this study,we explored the possibility of alantolactone as an apoptosis-inducing cytotoxic agent using MDA-MB-231 cells asin vitro model. Alantolactone significantly induced itsapoptosis, demonstrated by cell cycle analysis, annexinV-APC/7-AAD double staining and dUTP nick end labeling. Additionally, alantolactone triggered the mitochondrial-mediated caspase cascade apoptotic pathway, whichwas confirmed by increased Bax/Bcl-2 ratio, loss of MMP,release of cytc from mitochondria to cytoplasm, activationof caspase 9/3, and subsequent cleavage of PARP. Z-VADFMKpartially prevented apoptosis induced by alantolactone. Alantolactone provoked the production of ROS, whileNAC (a scavenger of ROS) reversed alantolactone-mediateddepolarization of MMP and apoptosis. Alantolactonemodulated the activities of MAPKs. As expected, cotreatmentwith SB203580, SP600125 or U0126 could reducedthe apoptotic rate. Furthermore, alantolactone decreasedthe protein expressions of p-NF-kB p65 and p-STAT3,increased p-c-Jun level in a dose-dependent manner. Thesefindings suggested that alantolactone possessed anticanceractivity via ROS-mediated mitochondrial dysfunctioninvolving MAPK pathway, and had an effect on the transcriptionfactors of NF-kB, AP-1 and STAT3.

Protocatechuic Acid, a Gut Bacterial Metabolite of Black Raspberries, Inhibits Adenoma Development and Alters Gut Microbiome Profiles in Apc Min/+ Mice

        Dong Athena,Lin Chien-Wei,Echeveste Carla Elena,Huang Yi-Wen,Oshima Kiyoko,Yearsley Martha,Chen Xiao,Yu Jianhua,Wang Li-Shu 대한암예방학회 2022 Journal of cancer prevention Vol.27 No.1

Administration of black raspberries (BRBs) and their anthocyanin metabolites, including protocatechuic acid (PCA), has been demonstrated to exert chemopreventive effects against colorectal cancer through alteration of innate immune cell trafficking, modulation of metabolic and inflammatory pathways, etc. Previous research has shown that the gut microbiome is important in the effectiveness of chemoprevention of colorectal cancer. This study aimed to assess the potency of PCA versus BRB dietary administration for colorectal cancer prevention using an ApcMin/+ mouse model and determine how bacterial profiles change in response to PCA and BRBs. A control AIN-76A diet supplemented with 5% BRBs, 500 ppm PCA, or 1,000 ppm PCA was administered to Apc- Min/+ mice. Changes in incidence, polyp number, and polyp size regarding adenomas of the small intestine and colon were assessed after completion of the diet regimen. There were significant decreases in adenoma development by dietary administration of PCA and BRBs in the small intestine and the 5% BRB-supplemented diet in the colon. Pro-inflammatory bacterial profiles were replaced with anti-inflammatory bacteria in all treatments, with the greatest effects in the 5% BRB and 500 ppm PCA-supplemented diets accompanied by decreased COX-2 and prostaglandin E2 levels in colonic mucosa. We further showed that 500 ppm PCA, but not 1,000 ppm PCA, increased IFN-γ and SMAD4 levels in primary cultured human natural killer cells. These results suggest that both BRBs and a lower dose PCA can benefit colorectal cancer patients by inhibiting the growth and proliferation of adenomas and promoting a more favorable gut microbiome condition.

A Pilot Clinical Study to Investigate the Hypomethylating Properties of Freeze-dried Black Raspberries in Patients with Myelodysplastic Syndrome or Myeloproliferative Neoplasm

        Dong Athena,Pan Xiaoqing,Lin Chien-Wei,Huang Yi-Wen,Krause Hayden,Pan Pan,Baim Arielle,Thomas Michael J,Chen Xiao,Yu Jianhua,Michaelis Laura,Liu Pengyuan,Wang Li-Shu,Atallah Ehab 대한암예방학회 2022 Journal of cancer prevention Vol.27 No.2

Myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) and myelodysplastic/myeloproliferative neoplasms (MDS/MPN) are bone marrow disorders characterized by cytopenias and progression to acute myeloid leukemia. Hypomethylating agents (HMAs) are Food and Drug Administration-approved therapies for MDS and MDS/MPN patients. HMAs have improved patients’ survival and quality of life when compared with other therapies. Although HMAs are effective in MDS and MDS/MPN patients, they are associated with significant toxicities that place a large burden on patients. Our goal is to develop a safer and more effective HMA from natural products. We previously reported that black raspberries (BRBs) have hypomethylating effects in the colon, blood, spleen, and bone marrow of mice. In addition, BRBs exert hypomethylating effects in patients with colorectal cancer and familial adenomatous polyposis. In the current study, we conducted a pilot clinical trial to evaluate the hypomethylating effects of BRBs in patients with low-risk MDS or MDS/MPN. Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) were isolated before and after three months of BRB intervention. CD45+ cells were isolated from PBMCs for methylation analysis using a reduced-representation bisulfite sequencing assay. Each patient served as their own matched control, with their measurements assessed before intervention providing a baseline for post-intervention results. Clinically, our data showed that BRBs were well-tolerated with no side effects. When methylation data was combined, BRBs significantly affected methylation levels of 477 promoter regions. Pathway analysis suggests that BRB-induced intragenic hypomethylation drives leukocyte differentiation. A randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial of BRB use in low-risk MDS or MDS/ MPN patients is warranted.
