      • The epitaxial growth of BaSnO<sub>3</sub> buffer layer on IBAD-MgO template and its effects on GdBa<sub>2</sub>Cu<sub>3</sub>O<sub>7-δ</sub> film: A preliminary study

        We report a successful fabrication of c-axis oriented GdBa<SUB>2</SUB>Cu<SUB>3</SUB>O<SUB>7-δ</SUB> (GdBCO) films on the BaSnO<SUB>3</SUB> (BSO) buffer layers on ion-beam assisted deposition (IBAD)-MgO template by pulsed-laser deposition (PLD). The (00l) growth and in-plane textures of BSO buffer layers were found sensitive to the substrate temperature (T<SUB>s</SUB>). With increasing the BSO layer thickness up to ~165nm, in-plane texture (Δφ~6.2<SUP>o</SUP>) of BSO layers was almost unaltered while completely c-axis oriented BSO layers were obtainable from samples with the thickness below ~45nm. On the BSO buffer layers showing in-plane texture of 6.2<SUP>o</SUP> and RMS surface roughness of ~8.6nm, GdBCO films were deposited at 780-800<SUP>o</SUP>C. All GdBCO films exhibited Δφ values of 4.6-4.7<SUP>o</SUP>, T<SUB>c,zero</SUB> of ~91K, and critical current density (J<SUB>c</SUB>) over 1MA/cm<SUP>2</SUP> at 77K in a self-field. The highest J<SUB>c</SUB> value of 1.82MA/cm<SUP>2</SUP> (I<SUB>c</SUB> of 51A/cm-width) was achieved from the GdBCO film deposited at T<SUB>s</SUB> of 790<SUP>o</SUP>C. These results support that BSO can be a promising buffer layer on the IBAD-MgO template for obtaining high-J<SUB>c</SUB> GdBCO coated conductors.

      • Modeling of Soybean Oil Bed Extraction with Supercritical Carbon Dioxide

        Dry-milled soybeans are extracted with supercritical carbon dioxide at pressures 270 to 375 atm, temperature 50 to 70, solvent flow rates 0.025 to 0.16 cm/sec as a linear velocity in the bed at supercritical state, and three types of soybean particle size in the range 0.05 to 0.2828 cm. Under these conditions, extraction rates of soybean oil from solid substrates in a fixed bed (1.1 mm I.D. x 200 mm Hight) have been determined. The extraction rates were constant during the initial extraction period where the film resistance controls the rates, and then, the rates shifted to time-dependent diffusion controlling mass transfer mode. To correlate these features, mass transfer calculations were carried out for the constant rate period and the subsequent unsteady mass transfer rate period, respectively.

        요골 경상 돌기 골절에 대한 임상적 분석

        We analysed the 49 fractures of radial styloid process which were treated at St. Mary's hospital since 1980, and tried to confirm the fracture type and mechanisms, their combined injuries around the affected wrist and to discuss the method of treatment. The results were as follows. l. Out of total 49 fractures, 38 cases(77.6%) were oblique fractures and the other 11 cases(22.4%) were transverse fractures in shape. 2. Twenty-four cases(49.0%) out of 49 fractures had been accompanied with various combined injuries around the affected wrist, i.e., 8 cases with lunar or perilunar dislocation, 6 cases with scapholunate dissociation, 3 cases with carpal subluxation and 7 cases with ulnar styloid process fracture. 3. Seven cases(41.2%) out of total 17 cases with combined wrist instabilities were missed in diagnosis initially, treated later and their results were not so good because of chronic wrist pain and ligamentous instabilities. 4. Sixteen patients(32.7%) were treated surgically, that is, open reduction, primary ligaments repair and K-wire fixation in 11 cases, reconstruction of torn carpal ligaments in 3 cases and proximal carpectomy in 2 cases. The oblique fracture of radial styloid process associated with scapho-lunate dissociation will occur commonly, but easily missed in initial diagnosis which could be the cause of chronic wrist pain and ligamentous instabilities later. So careful evaluation of initial wrist x-rays and also the long-term follow up should b done.

      • 도입 마(Dioscorea alata L.)의 특성 분석

        A lot of clones of the genus Dioscorea have been introduced from some tropical and subtropical regions since 1997. In 33 clones of water yams (Dioscorea alata L.), some morphological characteristics were investigated at the field. Variation ranges of the total weight and tuber number per stump were within the ranges from 90 to 2,147 g with an average of 610 g ; and 1.3-4.7 with an average of 2.8, respectively. The color tones observed on the tuber-flesh were sorted into 3 color-categories, i.e., white, pale brown and pale purple, and those on leaves were sorted into 3 color-categories, i.e., green, heavy green and purplish green. Intraspecific genetic relationship of 19 variation types of the Yam classified by their external morphological characteristics such as leaf and tuber shape was assessed by DNA using random and specific primers. Twenty two out of 113 primers (100 random[10-mer] primers, two 15 mer [M13 core sequence, and (GGAT)4 sequence]) had been used in PCR-amplification. Only 12 primers, however, were successful in DNA amplification in all of the analyzed plants, resulting in 93 randomly and specifically amplified DNA fragments. The analyzed taxa showed very high polymorphisms(69 bands, 71.0%), allowing individual taxon to be identified based on DNA fingerprinting. Monomorphic bands among total amplified DNA bands of each primer was low under the 50%. Similarity indices between accessions were computed from PCR(polymerase chain reaction) data, and genetic relationships among intraspecific variations were closely related at the levels ranging from 0.66 to 0.90.

        Lysozyme 및 sodium ultraphosphate 의 첨가가 프레스 햄의 저장성에 미치는 영향

        This study was carried out to investigate the effects of the addition 100ppm of lysozyme and 0.2% of sodium ultraphosphate on the shelf-life of press ham, compared with the addition 0.15% of K-sorbate during the storage at 25℃. Addition of combined lysozyme and sodium ultraphosphate inhibited microbial growth more effectively than addition of K-sorbate, lysozyme and sodium ultraphosphate, individually. pH value was not changed by the additives and storage times. VBN value was less increase in addition of combined lysozyme and sodium ultraphosphate than in control at 10days storage. Rheological changes was not differed by the additives although springiness was decreased by the storage times. Color was not differed by the additives and storage times. As results above, addition of combined lysozyme and sodium ultraphosphate extended the shelf-life of press ham compared with control, and was not differed compared with K-sorbate except for microbiological aspect.

        경기도 광주군 및 연천군 일원에서 채취한 93종의 잡초종(雜草種)을 대상으로 항균활성(抗園活性), 항종양활성(抗腫瘍活性), 항산화활성(抗酸化活性), 제초활성(除草活性) 등 몇가지 생리활성(生理活性)을 조사함으로써 제초(雜草)의 유용적(有用的)인 측면(則面)의 확인 뿐 아니라 나아가서 잡초(雜草)로부터 새로운 생리활성물질탐색(生理活性物質探索)의 가능성(可能性)을 제시하고자 하였다. 곰팡이에 있어서 사과나무 점무늬낙엽병균(落葉病菌)에 대해서는 새삼, 고추 역병균(疫病菌)에 대해서는 돼지풀과 쥐손이풀, 참깨 역병균(疫病菌)에 대해서는 쑥부쟁이와 미국쑥부쟁이가 항균활성(抗菌活性)을 나타내었다. 세균에 있어서는 돼지풀, 쑥, 사철쑥, 여뀌바늘, 구절초, 쥐손이풀, 미국가막사리 등이 비교적 항균활성(抗菌活性)의 범위(範圍)가 넓었으며 개비름, 비름, 망초, 물질경이, 쇠무릎, 물봉선, 벼룩나물 등이 Gram 양성세균인 Bacillus subtilis PCI219에 대하여 선택적(選擇的)인 항균활성(抗菌活性)을 나타내었다. 그리고 새삼, 개가장, 갈대, 쉽사리, 기름나물 등이 세포벽(細胞壁) 결손(缺損) 변이주(變異洙)인 Pseudomonas aeruginosa N10 균주에 대하여 선택적(選擇的)인 항균활성(抗菌活性)을 나타내었다. K562 세포(細胞)에 대한 protein kinase C 활성(活性)으로 조사한 antibleb 활성(活性)은 큰개여뀌, 사철쑥, 국화방망이, 개가장, 쥐손이풀, 바늘사초 등에서 나타났으며 특히 큰개여뀌에서는 조시료(粗試料) 상태에서 10mg/ml 농도(濃度)에서도 강한 활성(活性)을 나타내었다. 항산화활성(抗酸化活性)에 있어서는 바디나물, 쇠뜨기, 승마, 큰개여뀌, 쥐손이풀, 달맞이꽃, 방동사니대가리 등이 비교적 강한 활성(活性을) 나타내었으며 제초활성(除草活性)에 있어서는 여뀌바늘, 기름나물 등이 비교적 강한 활성(活性)을 나타내었다. Ninty three species of domestic weeds were collected and screened for antimicrobial, antitumor, antioxidant and herbicidal activities. Among them, few showed antifungal activities. Cuscuta japonica showed inhibitory activity against Alternaria mali, Ambrosia artemisiifolia and Geranium sibiricum against Phytophthora capsici, Aster yomema and Aster pilosus against Phytophthora parasitica. Ambrosia artemisiifolia, Artemisia princeps, Artemisia capillaris, Ludwigia prostrata, Chrysanthemum zawadskii, Bidens frondosa, and Geranium sibiricum showed broad antibacterial activities. Carex chordorhiza, Artemisia capillaris, Persicaria nodosa, Senecio koreanus, Pariicum bisulcatum, Geranium sibiricum showed antiblebbing activity on human chronic leukemia K562 cell, among them, Persicaria nodosa was the strongist. Angelica decursiva, Equisetum arvense, Cimicifuga heracleifolia, Persicaria nodosa, Geranium sibiricum, Oenothera odorata, Cyperus sanguinolentus showed antioxidant activities. Ludwigia prostrata and Peucedanum terebinthaceum showed strong herbicidal activities.

      • Enhancement of differentiation efficiency of hESCs into vascular lineage cells in hypoxia via a paracrine mechanism

        Hypoxia is one way of inducing differentiation due to the activation of the key regulatory factor, Hypoxia-inducible factor 1 alpha (HIF-1α). However, the action of HIF-1α on the differentiation of hESCs was unclear until now. To investigate the effect of hypoxia on the differentiation of hESCs, we compared the differentiation efficacy into vascular lineage cells under normoxic and hypoxic conditions. We observed HIF-1α expression and the related expression of pro-angiogenic factors VEGF, bFGF, Ang-1 and PDGF in hEBs cultured under hypoxic conditions. Along with this, differentiation efficacy into vascular lineage cells was improved under hypoxic conditions. When HIF-1α was blocked by echinomycin, both angiogenic factors and the differentiation efficacy were down-regulated, suggesting that the enhancement of differentiation efficacy was caused by intrinsic up-regulation of HIF-1α and these pro-angiogenic factors under hypoxic condition. This response might be primarily regulated by the HIF-1α signal pathway, and hypoxia might be the key to improving the differentiation of hESCs into vascular lineage cells. Therefore, this study demonstrated that microenvironmental changes (i.e., hypoxia) can improve differentiation efficacy of hESCs into a vascular lineage without exogenous factors via cell-intrinsic up-regulation of angiogenic factors. These facts will contribute to the regulation of stem cell fate.
