        신도시 계획에 따른 환경파괴 및 변화가 예상되는 분당지구의 어족자원을 보호하기 위하여 신도시 건설이전의 어류분포상을 조사하였다. 분당지구에는 잉어과 8종, 기름종개과 4종, 메기과, 뱀장어과, 송사리과, 드렁허리과, 극락어과, 구굴무치과 및 둑중개과 각 1 종을 포함하여 9 개과 19종이 분포하고 있었다. 최근 환경오염으로 감소추세에 있는 송사리, 드렁허리 및 버들 붕어가 이 지역에 존재한다는 것은 주목할 만한 것으로 특히 늪말지역의 늪지대는 신도시 건설 후에도 현재의 환경을 보존하여 이 지역 초, 중, 고등학교의 어류생태학 교육장으로 활용함이 좋을 것이다. 따라서 이 지역의 각별한 보호와 분별있는 개발이 요망된다. The freshwater fish fauna of Bundang Region, Kyungki-do, Korea, where dramatic environmental changes will be expected due to new city project, was censused to establish base line data for natural conservation program. Nineteen species belonging to 9 families were collected in this region. They were mainly cyprinids and cobitids. The Oryzias latipes, Monopterus albus, and Macropodus chinensis which are rare fish in recent years were found in this region. A swamp region called Neupmal is of particular interest in ichthyology excursion site for primary, middle and high school boy. Therefore, careful organization of new city plan and preservation of ichthyological fauna are strongly recommended.

        저자들은 호흡곤란, 흉부불쾌감, 심계항진 등을 주소로 내원한 환자에서 경흉부 및 경식도 심초음파 검사상 주폐동맥에서 이완기에 전행하는 지속적인 혈류의 흐름을 관찰하고, 관상동맥 조영술을 통해 좌전하행지 중간부위와 우관상동맥 근위부에서 각각 기시하여 공통경로를 이루면서 주폐동맥으로 유입되는 양측성 관상동정맥루를 보이는 드문 1예를 경험하였기에 문헌 고찰과 함께 보고하는 바이다. A coronary arteriovenous fistula is infrequently encountered vascular communication between a coronary artery and a cardiac chamber, a great artery or the vena cava. It is the most common congenital anomaly that can affect coronary perfusion. Bilateral involvement of coronary fistula constitutes an uncommon subgroup of coronary arteriovenous fistulas. A 69 year-old female patient presented with chest discomfort, palpitation, and dyspnea. In the echocardiography, doppler color flow imaging visualized abnormal flow signals with mosaic appearance in the main pulmonary artery during diastolic phase. Coronary angiography revealed arteriovenous fistula arising from the left anterior descending artery and the right coronary artery. Both coronary arteriovenous fistulas drained into the main pulmonary artery. We report a case of bilateral coronary arteriovenous fistula that was confirmed by echocariography and coronary angiography.

        전자토모그래피의 정량적 분석에서 대물렌즈 조리개의 영향

        Electron tomography의 정량적 분석을 위해서 대물렌즈 조리개가 투과빔의 강도에 미치는 영향을 평가하였다. Electron tomography에 도입되는 Beer’s law의 올바른 적용을 위해서는 투과빔은 시료의 기울기에 따른 mass thickness의 변화에 의한 효과만을 반영해야 한다. 그러므로 빔 경로상의 대물렌즈 조리개, 홀더 등에 의한 다른 효과는 제거되어야 한다. 본 연구에서는 대물렌즈 조리개의 cut-off 효과를 120 kV TEM과 Quantifoil holey 카본 시료를 이용하여 상세히 평가하였다. 대물렌즈 조리개를 사용하지 않은 경우와 비교할 때, 30 μm 크기의 대물렌즈 조리개를 통과한 투과전자빔의 강도는 약 16.7%의 감소가 일어난다. 또한 55˚이상의 고경사각 기울기에서는 대물렌즈 조리개의 cut-off 효과에 의해 14.2%의 강도 감소가 추가적으로 발생함을 알 수 있었다. Electron tomography에서 정량적 분석을 위해서는 이러한 대물렌즈 조리개의 영향을 고려해야만 한다. 또한 Beer’s law의 올바른 적용을 위해서는 일련의 기울기에 따른 2차원적 영상은 가능하면 대물렌즈 조리개를 사용하지 않은 상태에서 획득하는 것이 바람직하다. We have evaluated the effects of experimental factors on transmitted electron beam intensities for quantitative analysis in electron tomography. For the correct application of Beer’s law in electron tomography, the transmitted beam intensity should reflect the net effect of mass properties on beam path. So, the any other effects of the objective aperture and the specimen holder on beam path should be removed. The cut-off effects of objective aperture were examined using Quantifoil holey carbon film and a transmission electron microscope operated at 120 kV. The transmitted beam intensities with 30 μm objective aperture dropped about 16.7% compared to electron beam intensities without the objective aperture. Also, the additional losses of about 14.2% at high tilt angles were occurred by cut-off effects of the objective apertures. For the precise quantitative analysis in electron tomography, the effect of the objective aperture on transmitted electron beam intensities should be considered. It is desirable that 2-D tilt series images are obtained without the objective aperture for correct application of Bee’s law.

      • Ultrastructural Aspects on the Deferent Ducts of Orb Web Spider, Araneus ventricosus

        Sperm cell development in spider species undergoes in testicular cyst, containing certain number of cells per cyst. As a germ cell matures through entire stages of spermatogenesis, testicular cysts rupture and produced spermatozoa are transferred in a form of cleistosperm. When mature spermatozoa pass through deferent duct, it is known that various types of seminal secretions are released into the lumen to provide auxillary functions to the mature sperms – such as nutrition, protection, or sperm release inside the female body. However, a peculiar type of seminal secretion was observed in this study. In the lumen of deferent duct, encapsulated seminal secretions are observed along with coiled sperm cells. Since the capsule is quite thick – as thick as the one of mature sperm cell, it is thought that the secretion capsule would be transferred as well along with the sperm cells into the spermathecae probably activiating sperm cells through decapsulation. Also, this study revealed that sperm storage in deferent duct occurs in droplet-by-droplet basis; which suggests possible sperm inducing mechanism. Since spider uses pedipalps in copulation to transfer its sperm cells, spider has to fill it accordingly. In other words, stored sperms in deferent duct are released in a droplet at once.

      • Fine Structure of the Silk Producing Organ in the Caddisworm Hydatophylax nigrovittatusu

        The caddisfly is an aquatic insects that resembles small moth. Silk is produced by the larvae through a pair of labial silk glands. The larvae, caddisworms, use silk not only to produce ‘capture nets’ to collect food particles from the water environment but also to construct ‘silken cases’ for their shelters in running water. Physically, two different processes of silk-producing systems are reported among the different species of arthropod animals: terrestrial and aquatic silk productions. Although both types of silks can be produced along its sophisticated process through a sequential pathway from silk gland, most of our recent knowledges of silk producing system are dependent on those revealed from the terrestrial animals including silkworms or spiders. Therefore, this experiment was initiated to reveal the fine structural aspects of the silk producing system of larval stage of the caddisfly Hydatophylax nigrovittatusu with light and electron microscopes

        Application of Polymerase Chain Reaction with Disposable Amplicon Detection Device for Identification of Regulatory Gene Introduced into Genetically Modified Maize

        A novel genetically modified organism (GMO) detection method was developed using a simple and rapid procedure to identify a regulatory gene introduced into genetically modified (GM) maize. After DNA extraction from GM maize flours, fragments of the conserved sequence of the cauliflower masaic virus (CaMV) 35S promoter gene along with a competitive internal control gene were amplified using duplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Amplification products were then detected using a disposable detection device. The quantitative detection limit for GM maize 59122 was found to be 1.0% (w/w). Because the combination-method involving PCR technology coupled with a disposable detection device does not require expensive instrumentation or expertise, it will serve as a valuable alternative to immunoassays and traditional PCR-based tests in the detection of GMOs.

        Development of Efficient Transformation Protocol for Soybean (Glycine max L.) and Characterization of Transgene Expression after Agrobacterium-mediated Gene Transfer

        Increasing vitamin E activity in economically important oil crops such as soybean will enhance the nutritional value of these crops. An improved soybean transformation system involving pre-culture of soybean seed on medium supplemented with 1 mg/L 6-benzylaminopurine under dark conditions was established. To improve the nutritional value of soybean by increasing the α-tocopherol content, soybeans were transformed with γ-tocopherol methyltransferase (γ-TMT) gene by Agrobacterium-mediated transformation. Frequency of soybean transformation was significantly increased from 0.5 to 4.3% by this modified system, and 13 lines of transgenic soybean plants containing γ-TMT were obtained. The molecular characterization using polymerase chain reaction (PCR), reverse transcriptase PCR, and Southern blot analysis confirmed insertion and inheritance of the transgene in the transgenic plants and their progeny. Morphologically normal and fertile transgenic plants were analyzed, and the majority of transgenic soybean transmitted herbicide resistance at 3:1 or 15:1 ratios to their progeny. Alpha-tocopherol content in transgenic soybean seeds was determined by high-performance liquid chromatography; over-expression of γ-TMT resulted in a 41-fold increase in α-tocopherol over wild-type soybean seeds.

        Tocopherols (α-, β-, γ- and δ-tocopherols) represent a group of lipophilic antioxidants which are synthesized only by photosynthetic organisms. It is widely believed that protection of pigments and proteins of photosynthetic system and polyunsaturated fatty acids from oxidative damage caused by reactive oxygen species (ROS) is the main function of tocopherols. In the present study, NtTC, which encodes a tobacco tocopherol cyclase ortholog, was cloned and characterized. Compared with control plants, NtTC transgenic rice showed higher tolerance to drought stress, and total tocopherol content increased by 52 % in leaf. Additionally, total antioxitant activity of NtTC transgenic lines was increased significantly by 19%. These results demonstrate that over-expressing NtTC could improve the tolerance to abiotic stress in rice, and tocopherols play a crucial role in the protection of oxidative stress.

        의과대학 정신과 실습 학생의 환자중심적 태도와 관련 요인

        Introduction : The practicing of patient-centered medical services means a change in the pattern of the nature of doctor-patient relationship. The doctor oriented relationship is now moving to the pattern that patients resolve problems autonomously and participate in the decision-making in medical services. Authors performed this study to investigate the patient centeredness and influencing variables in medical students. Methods : Authors recruited 94 medical students before psychiatric clinical clerkship and all subjects were assessed by structured questionales including socio-demographic data, frequency of receiving doctor-patient relationship lectures, Minnesota multiphasic personality inventory (MMPl), Meyers-Briggs type indicator (MBTI), the authoritarian personality scale (AP), job satisfaction scale (JS), Patient practitioner orientation scale (PPOS), problem-solving decision-making scale (PSDM), and Beisecker locus ot authority in decision-making scale (BLAS), and the questionnaire of JS, PPOS, PSDM, and BLAS were rechecked after psychiatric clinical clerkship. Results : After psychiatric clinical clerkship, the score of JS, PPOS were higher than before. The group who had a good memory for taking a doctor-patient relationship lecture showed higher scores of the BLAS and PSDM than unexposed group. The AP was related with MBTI, correlated with the subscale of MMPI, however, inversely correlated with PPOS after psychiatric clinical clerkship. Conclusion : The authoritarian personality trait was related not only with other personality trait including introversion and psychopathic deviation (Pd) but also with patient-centeredness. Taking a lecture in doctor-patient relationship is positively related to the patient-centeredness.
