        본 연구는 제주도 주요 습지에 도래하는 도요ㆍ물떼새류의 지소적인 연구의 일환으로, 1998년 3월부터 2000년 2월까지 2년간 매월 2회씩, 1) 동부지역(하도리 양어장, 종달리 해안 및 성산포 양어장)과, 2)서부지역(용수리 저수지, 금등리 해안 및 대정읍 일과리 해안)으로 나누어 조사하였다. 조사기간 중 2개 지역에서 관찰된 도요ㆍ물떼새류는 총 45종 5,117개체였으며, 지역별로는 동부지역에서 40종 4,910개체, 서부지역에서 38종 927개체로 나타났다. 계절별로는 봄철 2,821개체, 가을철 1,229개체로 봄철에 도래하는 개체수가 가을철보다 많았다. 우점종은 제1차 조사기간인 봄철에는 민물도요 Calidris alpina 2,024개체(88.5%), 흰물떼새 Charadrius alexandrinus 84개체(3.7%), 흰목물떼새 Charadrius placidus 11개체(2.4%)의 순으로 나타났으며, 가을철에도 민물도요 384개체(82.9%), 흰물떼새 20개체(4.3%), 흰목물떼새 11개체(2.4%)의 순으로 나타났다. 제2차 조사기간에는 봄철에 좀도요 Calidria ruficollis 116개체(21.8%), 민물도요 67개체(12.6%), 청다리도요 Tringa nebularia 58개체(10.9%)의 순으로, 가을철에는 민물도요 191개체(24.9%), 노랑발도요 T. brevipes 156개체(20.4%), 삑삑도요 T. ochropus 104개체(13.6%)의 순으로 나타났다. 동부지역은 서부지역에 비하여 우점도는 높았으나, 종다양도와 균등도는 낮게 나타났다. 동부지역과 서부지역간의 유사도는 0.85였다. 본 연구를 통해 물꿩 Hydrophasianus chirurgus, 검은머리물떼새 Haematopus ostralegus, 바늘꼬리도요 Gallinago stenura, 흰꼬리좀도요 Calidrius temminckii 등 4종의 제주도 미기록종과, 검은머리물떼새, 흰목물떼새, 넓적부리도요 Eurynorhynchus pygmeus, 알락꼬리마도요 Numenius madagascariensis 등 3종의 환경부 지정 보호조류가 관찰되었다. This study was part of a continuous research project on the status of migrating shorebirds on major wetlands in Cheju Island. This study was conducted twice every month for two years, from March 1998 to February 2000. The investigated location are mainly two areas. The first census areas were Hado-ri fishfarm and the coast of Jongdal-ri in Kujaw-up and Sungsan-po fishfarm in Sungsan-up, all located in the eastern part of Cheju Island. The second census areas were Yongsu-ri reservoir and the coast of Kumdung-ri in Hangyoung-myon and the coast of Ilgwa-ri in Dejong-up, all located in the western part of Cheju Island. In total, 45 species consisting 5,117 individuals were observed during the census period. There were 40 species and 4,910 individuals in the eastern area, 38 species and 927 individuals in the western area. The number of individuals of shorebirds in the spring migratory season was greater than in the autumn. The dominant species researched during the first census period were 2,024 individuals of Calidrius alpina (88.5%), 84 individuals of Charadrius alexandrinus (3.7%), 59 individuals of Charadrius placidus (2.6%) in spring and 384 individuals of Calidrius alpina (82.9%), 20 individuals of Charadrius alexandrinus (4.3%), 11 individuals of Charadrius placidus (2.4%) in autumn. The dominant species researched during the second census period were 116 individuals of Calidrius ruficolis (21.8%), 67 individuals of Calidrius alpina (12.6%), 58 individuals of Tringa nebularia (10.9%) in spring and 191 individuals of Calidrius alpina (24.9%), 156 individuals of Tringa brebipes (20.4%), 104 individuals of Tringa ochropus (13.6%) in autumn. Dominance index were recorded better in the eastern area than the western area, but species diversity and evenness index were recorded lower in the eastern area than the western area. Similarity index were 0.85 between the eastern area and the western area. Hydrophasianus chirurgus, Haematopus ostralegus, Gallinago stenura and Calidrius temminuckii, which are observed during the census period are previously unrecorded species on Cheju Island. Rare and endangered species were observed such as Haematopus ostralegus, Charadrius placidus, Numenius madagascariensis, and Eurynorhynchus pygmeus.

        In the development of the advanced spent fuel management process based on the molten salt technology, it is essential to choose the optimum material for the process equipment handling molten salt. As a part of assessment and application of the structural material for the molten salt handling system, corrosion behavior of 304, 304L and 316LN in the molten salts was investigated. Corrosion proceeded via three steps; the formation step on corrosion product in which rapid corrosion takes place until stable corrosion product is formed after the beginning of corrosion, the protection step against corrosion until breakaway occurs after the formation step of stable corrosion product and the advancing step of corrosion after the breakaway. In a molten salt of LiCl-8%Li₂O, the final oxide scales of Li₂Ni_(8)O_(10) were formed, and also Li₂Ni_(8)O_(10) in the molten salt of LiCl-8%Li₂O-1%Li_3N.

        In the development of the advanced spent fuel management process based on the molten salt technology, it is essential to choose the optimum material for the process equipment handing molten salt. As a part of assessment and application of the structural material for the molten salt handing system, corrosion behavior of Fe-base and Ni-base alloys in the molten salts was investigated in the temperature range of 650~800℃. Ni-base alloys showed of FeCr₂O₄ and Cr₂O₃ were formed in the Fe-abse alloys, also, NiFe₂O₄ and Cr₂O₃ in the Ni-base alloys. Fe-base alloys showed uniform and intergranular corrosion behavior and Ni-base alloys showed uniform and localized corrosion behavior.

        To investigate the efficacy of endoluminal ultrasound system (EUS) as a surrogate for high frequency transvaginal ultrasonography and as an optional baseline study in determining parameirial and stromal invasion of early stage cervical cancer, 52 women suspected of cervical cancer underwent EUS. A 12 MHz endoscopic probe was employed to radially scan the cervix for possible lesions suspected to be invasive cancer during a period of 6 months from Feb. 1 to July 1, 1995. Patients also underwent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and/or computerized tomography (CT) as a routine mode of baseline study, and were clinically staged by 3 independent physicians specializing in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, School of Medicine, Ajou University, Suwon, Korea. Thirty one patients subsequently received surgery appropriate for the stage of the disease and the final pathology findings were compared with the results of clinical staging, EUS, MRI/CT by regression analysis. The results showed that there was statistically significant correlation between MRI/CT and pathology (r=0.660, p<0.02), between EUS and pathology (r=0.803, p<0.01), and between clinical staging and pathology (r=0.825, p<0.01). It is concluded that there was significant statistical correlation t>etween EUS, MRI/CT, clinical staging and pathology, but the question remained as to the statistical superiority of EUS over MRI/CT with regard to parametrial invasion and stromal invasion depth assessment. Finally, EUS is useful as an alternative optional diagnostic tool in the baseline study of cervical cancer.

        High Temperature Corrosion Behavior of Ni-Based Alloys

        The high temperature corrosion behavior of N07263, N06600, and N06625 in LiCl-Li2O molten salt was investigated at temperatures ranging from 650 to 850 °C in a glove box. The high temperature corrosion behavior was observed using measurements of the oxide morphology and thickness, the extent of internal corrosion, and the compositional changes in the scale and in the substrate. Corrosion tests were performed,and these demonstrated that the main corrosion products were Fe(Ni,Co)3, FeNi3, and LiCrO2. The internal corrosion of N07263 was localized, while that of N06600 maintained intergranular corrosion throughout the test temperature range. N06625 exhibited uniform intergranular corrosion behaviors at low and high temperatures. N07263 exhibited superior corrosion resistance, as evidenced by its corrosion layer which was more continuous,dense, and adherent when compared with those of N06600 and N06625.

        <P>A major obstacle to the success of gene therapy strategies that directly target cancer cells is the low gene transfer rate. To address this problem, we had previously proposed a combination adenoviral gene therapy containing a conditionally replicating adenovirus (CRAD) expressing mutant E1 (Delta24RGD), and a replication-defective E1-deleted adenovirus to enhance the efficiency of gene transfer. Suicide/pro-drug gene therapy has an important additional benefit to the therapy of cancer. This relates to the transfer and expression of non-mammalian genes encoding enzymes that convert non-toxic pro-drugs into cellular toxins. We investigated the interaction between CRAD (Delta24RGD) and a replication-defective E1-deleted adenovirus (ad-HSTK) containing a suicide gene (HSTK: herpes simplex virus thymidine kinase gene) with respect to therapeutic gene production and tumor cell killing efficacy. Combined transduction of CRAD and ad-HSTK increased the transduction efficiency of HSTK and increased its sensitivity to ganciclovir (GCV) more efficiently than ad-HSTK alone. Transfer of medium of CRAD and ad-HSTK co-transduced cells induced the transfer of HSTK (media transferable bystander effect), and enhanced its sensitivity to GCV. In an animal tumor model, combined intratumoral injection of CRAD and ad-HSTK followed by GCV administration induced prolonged expression of HSTK and stronger growth suppression of established lung cancer xenografts than single injections. These data demonstrate that the selective replication of ad-HSTK due to the presence of mutant E1, produced by a Delta24RGD and HSTK/GCV suicide gene system, resulted in a striking improvement in anti-tumor effects in vitro and in vivo.</P>

      • HBV : Is It Necessary for Isolated anti-HBc IgG Positive Patients Received TNF-α Inhibitors to Monitor the HBV Reactivation?

        Background/Aim: As increased tumor necrosis factor .alpha TNF-α) inhibitor use for treatment of many disease, reactivation of hepatitis B virus (HBV) is becoming issues. Especially, there was no guideline for isolated anti-HBV core (HBc) IgG positive patients undergoing TNFα inhibitor therapy and to find the evidence of HBV monitoring in these patients. Methods: Patients who had underwent TNFα inhibitor therapy from October 2009 to December 2012 were included in the study. In this patients group, we retrospectively investigated a series of serum aminotransferase levels, HBV serologic status, the type of TNFα inhibitor therapy and concurrent use of hepatotoxic agents. Results: A total 468 patients were received TNFα inhibitor therapy, and 67 patients were positive result of anti-HBc IgG. In these patients, 8 (11.9%) patients were HBsAg-positive, 15 22.4%) were HBsAg negative/HBsAb negative and 39 (58.2%) were HbsAg negative/HbsAb positive before the start of TNFα inhibitor therapy. HBV reactivation occurred to six patients and 5 of 6 patients were HBsAg positive, another one patient was HBsAg negative/HBsAb negative at baseline. One of five HBsAg positive patient was reactivated HBV infection during TNFα inhibitor therapy even though preemptive therapy. The only factor of past history of chronic hepatitis B (CHB) was statistically significant (P<0.05). and there was not occurred HBV-related mortality. Conclusion: HBV reactivation can occur not only HBsAgpositive but also HBsAg-negative/HBcAb-positive patients underwent TNFα inhibitor therapy. It is important to monitor HBV serology during the TNFα therapy in patients with past CHB history and anti-HBc IgG positive.
