The marine algal flora and community structure of Gahakri in Jindo Island, south coast of Korea, were investigated seasonally during May, 2001∼Feburary, 2002. As the results, a total of 80 species including 8 greens, 18 browns and 54 reds was identified. The dominant species of algal community of the year was Sargassum thunbergu, and the subdominants were Gloiopeltis furcata, Ulua pertusa, Hizikia fusiformis and Gelidium divaricatum In vertical distribution, the species from upper to middle to lower intertidal zone were Gloiopeltis furcata - Sargassum thunbergu, Gelidium diuaricatum, Hizikia fusiformis - Ulua pertusa, Chondracanthus intermedius, respectively.

As the results, a total of 89 species including 8 greens, 18 browns and 63 reds was identified. The dominant species of algal community of the year was Sargassum thunbergti and the subdominants were Amphiroa ephedraea, Hizikia fusiformis and Ulva pertusa. In vertical distribution, the species of algal community distributed seasonally from the upper intertidal zone were Sargassum thunbergu, Ulva pertusa - Chondracanthus intermedius, Hizikia fuslformis, Corallina pilullfera, Chondria crassicaulis - Amphiroa ephedraea, Undaria pinnatifida.
Precipitation Behavior of MnS on Oxide Inclusions in Si/Mn Deoxidized Steel

The precipitation behavior of the MnS phase of MnO-SiO₂ oxides in Si/Mn deoxidized steels was examined. MnS phase formation in the oxide phase was clearly identified, and the Mn content in both phases increased with isothermal holding at 1,200℃. With increased cooling rate, both the size of inclusions and the precipitation ratio of the MnS phase in the oxides decreased. More than 90% of MnO-SiO₂ oxides contain MnS phases and MnS precipitation is accompanied by an Mn-depleted zone around the oxides. This zone was created not just around the MnS, but around the whole oxide inclusion. One can tentatively conclude that the majority of the MnS islands after isothermal holding are formed by the diffusion of Mn and S from the matrix into the inclusions.
Effect of few-walled carbon nanotube crystallinity on electron field emission property

We discuss the influence of few-walled carbon nanotubes (FWCNTs) treated with nitric acid and/or sulfuric acid on field emission characteristics. FWCNTs/tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) thin film field emitters were fabricated by a spray method using FWCNTs/TEOS sol one-component solution onto indium tin oxide (ITO) glass. After thermal curing, they were found tightly adhered to the ITO glass, and after an activation process by a taping method, numerous FWCNTs were aligned preferentially in the vertical direction. Pristine FWCNT/TEOS-based field emitters revealed higher current density, lower turn-on field, and a higher field enhancement factor than the oxidized FWCNTs-based field emitters. However, the unstable dispersion of pristine FWCNT in TEOS/N,N-dimethylformamide solution was not applicable to the field emitter fabrication using a spray method. Although the field emitter of nitric acid-treated FWCNT showed slightly lower field emission characteristics, this could be improved by the introduction of metal nanoparticles or resistive layer coating. Thus, we can conclude that our spray method using nitric acid-treated FWCNT could be useful for fabricating a field emitter and offers several advantages compared to previously reported techniques such as chemical vapor deposition and screen printing.
Cultivation and Characteristics of Licorice F<sub>1</sub> (Glycyrrhiza glabra × G. uralensis) Lines

Licorice, a traditional Korean medicinal plant, is recognized for its main active ingredient, glycyrrhizin. The level of glycyrrhizin in Chinese licorice (Glycyrrhiza uralensis) is lower than the reference level (2.5%) set by the Korean Pharmacopoeia, reducing its value as a medicinal herb. In this study, we aimed to overcome this problem by generating an interspecific licorice hybrid by crossing European licorice (G. glabra) with Chinese licorice, resulting in the production of 32 $F_1$ lines. A comparison of genetic traits revealed variations in glycyrrhizin content among lines, ranging from 1.5 to 5.6%, with a mean value of 3.2%; these values are higher than that of the parental plants. Additionally, 25 lines (78.1%) had a glycyrrhizin content greater than 2.5%, which is higher than the reference level set by the Korean Pharmacopoeia. Four of these lines had glycyrrhizin levels higher than the WHO recommended level of 4.0%. A comparison of phenotypic characteristics showed that the leaves of the hybrids possessed all of the characteristics of European and Chinese licorice; however, the stems of most hybrids had characteristics of European licorice. Finally, we determined the genetic distances of 34 samples of Glycyrrhiza plants (parents, 32 $F_1$ lines) by random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD); the $F_1$ lines showed a close genetic distance. We plan to develop to a cultivar using five of these lines (glycyrrhizin content < 4.0%).

Characterization of Monoclonal Antibodies against Human Leukocyte Common Antigen (CD45)

Background: The leukocyte common antigen (CD45) is a transmembrane-type protein tyrosine phosphatase that has five isoforms. Methods: We generated seven murine mAbs against human CD45 by injecting cells from different origins, such as human thymocytes, PBMCs, and leukemic cell lines. By using various immunological methods including flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, and immunoprecipitation, we evaluated the reactivity of those mAbs to CD45 of thymus as well as tonsil lysates. Furthermore, we transiently transfected COS-7 cells with each of gene constructs that express five human CD45 isoforms respectively, and examined the specificities of the mAbs against the transfected isoforms. Results: In case of thymocytes, lymphocytes, and monocytes, all the seven mAbs demonstrated positive reactivities whereas none was reactive to erythrocytes and platelets. The majority of immune cells in formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded thymus and tonsil tissues displayed strong membranous immunoreactivity, and the main antigen was detected near 220 kDa in all cases. Among the mAbs, four mAbs (AP4, DN11, SHL-1, and P6) recognized a region commonly present in all the five isoforms. One mAb, YG27, recognized four isoforms (ABC, AB, BC, and O). Two mAbs, P1 and P14, recognized the isoforms that contain exon A encoded regions (ABC and AB). Conclusion: In this study, we confirmed that AP4, DN11, SHL-1, YG27 and P6, are mAbs reactive with the CD45 antigen whereas P1 and P14 are reactive with the CD45RA antigen.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate purpose of education, goal and curriculums of physical therapy department. Methods: It was carried out a questionnaire survey with total 74 colleges that have the department of physical therapy including the 3-year course (36 colleges) and 4-year course (38 college) from June 10 to August 7, 2010 and collected the data from total 64 colleges including 35 colleges with 4-year course and 29 colleges with 3-year course. Results: First, the purposed and objectives of the physical therapy education of the individual colleges were all excellent, but those of the colleges with 4-year course was a little higher than those of the colleges with 3-year course. Second, the evaluation of the curricula of the individual colleges showed that they have low degree of connection, continuation and integrity and the theory and practice were not harmonized, and scores were low especially in the practice. Third, we have classified the curricula of the individual colleges and found that the practice-based education was lacking among the curricula of Korea. Conclusion: In this study, the fundamental data for the establishment of the integrated and professional physical therapy education system was provided to improve the physical therapy education and the efficiency of the clinical work in the current, fast-moving status of physical therapy. Further study is necessary to present a more standardized curriculum.
Prevalence of Hepatitis B Virus and HIV Co-infection in Korea

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) have a common route like sexually transmitted infections (STIs), vertical transmission and blood transfusion, etc. Therefore, it was necessary to be an attempt to confirm the relationship of HBV and HIV in Korea. We investigated the prevalence of Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) and Hepatitis B core antibody (anti-HBc) in HIV positive groups (n=430) and HIV negative groups (n=434) from January 2014 to October 2015. When comparing the prevalence of anti-HBc between the two groups, HIV positive group (36.0%) showed a higher prevalence than HIV negative group (24.7%), the result was statistically significant (p < 0.05). However, there was a little difference on HBsAg and not significant. Therefore, by showing a clear difference in anti-HBc between the two groups of HIV in Korea, it was confirmed to be associated with co-infections between Hepatitis B and HIV.
