Primary intraosseous carcinoma of the mandible
Hwang, Eui-Hwan,Choi, Yong-Suk,Lee, Sang-Rae 대한구강악안면방사선학회 2005 Imaging Science in Dentistry Vol.35 No.4
A very uncommon tumor, primary intraosseous carcinoma (PIOC), is a carcinoma arising within the jaw. The definite diagnosis of PIOC is often difficult as the lesion must be distinguished from alveolar carcinoma that may invade the bone from the overlying soft tissues or from the tumors that have metastasized to the jaw from a distant site. A case of PIOC arising in the mandible is presented. The clinical, radiologic, and histologic features are described. This rare lesion should be considered in any differential diagnosis of a jaw radiolucency.

This study was performed to evaluate the compatibility of site index for Larix kaempferi in Gangwon and Kyeongbuk regions. The data were collected and analyzed from stem alalysis of one dominant tree at each of 45 permanent plots installed in the regions. The result of site index estimation following the site index table developed by Korean Forest Service (KFS) showed that 8 plots (18%) were less than site index 18 and 37 plot (82%) greater than site index 20. Height growth changes of stemmed trees until present were illustrated in a graphic form to evaluate the compatibility of site index curve. The result showed that only 8 plots (18%) did not show any change of site index as trees age, 19 plots (42%) fluctuated in 2∼4m and 18 plots (40%) over 6m.

Background/Aims: Many patients with aspirin-induced asthma have severe methacholine airway hyperresponsiveness (AHR), suggesting a relationship between aspirin and methacholine in airway response. This study was performed to determine whether methacholine AHR affects the response of asthmatics to inhaled aspirin. Methods: The clinical records of 207 asthmatic patients who underwent inhalation challenges with both aspirin and methacholine were reviewed retrospectively. An oral aspirin challenge was performed in patients with a negative inhalation response. The bronchial reactivity index (BRindex) was calculated from the percent decrease in lung function divided by the last dose of the stimulus. Results: Forty-one (20.9%) and 14 (7.1%) patients showed a positive response to aspirin following an inhalation and oral challenge, respectively. Only 24.3 and 14.3% of the responders had a history of aspirin intolerance, respectively. The methacholine BRindex was significantly higher in the inhalation responders (1.46±0.02) than in the oral responders (1.36±0.03, p<0.01) and in non-responders (n=141, 1.37±0.01, p<0.001). The aspirin BRindex was significantly correlated with the methacholine BRindex (r=0.270, p<0.001). Three of four patients who received the oral challenge, despite a positive inhalation test, showed negative responses to the oral challenge. Two of these patients had severe AHR. Conclusions: A considerable number of asthmatic patients with no history of aspirin intolerance responded to the inhalation aspirin challenge. The airway response to aspirin was significantly correlated with methacholine-AHR, and a false-positive response to aspirin inhalation test seemed to occur primarily in patients with severe AHR. Real-Time Cattle Action Recognition for Estrus Detection
( Eui-ju Heo ),( Sung-jin Ahn ),( Kang-sun Choi ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2019 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.13 No.4
In this paper, we present a real-time cattle action recognition algorithm to detect the estrus phase of cattle from a live video stream. In order to classify cattle movement, specifically, to detect the mounting action, the most observable sign of the estrus phase, a simple yet effective feature description exploiting motion history images (MHI) is designed. By learning the proposed features using the support vector machine framework, various representative cattle actions, such as mounting, walking, tail wagging, and foot stamping, can be recognized robustly in complex scenes. Thanks to low complexity of the proposed action recognition algorithm, multiple cattle in three enclosures can be monitored simultaneously using a single fisheye camera. Through extensive experiments with real video streams, we confirmed that the proposed algorithm outperforms a conventional human action recognition algorithm by 18% in terms of recognition accuracy even with much smaller dimensional feature description.

Background: Despite aggressive treatment, the mortality rate of cardiogenic shock with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is high. We performed extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) prior to coronary reperfusion, and evaluated the early clinical results and risk factors. Materials and Methods: From May 2006 to November 2009, we reviewed the medical records of 20 patients in cardiogenic shock with AMI (mean age 67.7±11.7 yrs, M : F 14 : 6). After initially performing ECMO using the CAPIOX emergency bypass system (EBS^ⓇTerumo, Tokyo, Japan), patients underwent coronary reperfusion (coronary artery bypass grafting, 13; percutaneous coronary intervention, 7). Results: All patients were in a cardiogenic shock state, cardiopulmonary resuscitations (CPR) were performed for fourteen patients (mean CPR time 20.8±26.0 min). The mean time from vascular access to the initiation of ECMO was 17.2±9.4 min and mean support time was 3.8±4.0 days. Fourteen patients were able to be weaned from ECMO and ten patients were discharged (mean admission duration 50.1±31.6 days). Patients survived on average 476.6±374.6 days of follow-up. Longer CPR and support time, increased cardiac enzyme, lower ejection fraction, lower albumin, and major complications were the risk factors of mortality (p<0.05). Conclusion: The early application of ECMO prior to coronary reperfusion and control of risk factors allowed for good clinical results in cardiogenic shock with AMI.
