According to the literature study on Nae-gwan and Kongson, reviewing the oriental medical books from Hung-Ti-Nei-Ching 《黃帝內經》 to recent books and other 35 kinds of literatures, the following results are obtained. 1. The location of Nae-gwan is the superior 2 cun Tae-nung point between Tendon of flexor carpiradials and Tendon of palmaris longus; the location of Kongson is the 1st Metatarsal, medial, dented and posterior 1 cun T´aebaek pont. 2. The effects of Nae-gwan are relaxing mind, nutrition of heart, peaceful chest, invigorate vital energy, transmitting triple energy; the effects of Kongson are steadying spleen harmonious stomach clearing away dampness, controlling ch´ung-im, regulating blood. 3. Nae-gwan is often used for circulatory organs disease, digestive organs disease, neuropsychiatry disease; Kongson is often used for digestive organs disease, urinary organs disease, neuropsychiatry disease, therefore, these double points are used for internal disease wholly. 4. The Needle-steadying depth of Nae-gwan is 0.5-1 cun, Kongson is 0.3-2 cun; the Moxibustion dosage of Nae-gwan is 3-7 zhuang, Kongson is 3-5 zhuang. 5. Nae-gwan belongs to pericardium Merdian, Kongson belongs to Spleen Meridian, therefore, these double points are combined in yin Meridian upper and lower sides. These points can be used for treating front body part, such as heart, chest and stomach.

The objective of this research is to find out the influencing factors to recur oral cancers. The outcomes of 85 patients(male: 62 patients, female: 23 patients) with oral cancer who were not treated any pre-operative radiotherapy, chemotherapy or previous oral surgery, other than routine dento-alveolar procedures and a recent diagnostic biopsy were analysed retrospectively. Actuarial (life tables) survival analysis showed the 5 year survival rate was 58%, 52% for male patients, 72% for female patients. The patients who were under 50 years old showed 71% of 5 year survival rate, 51% of 5 year survival rate were above 51 years old group. Patients who were treated with elective neck dissection showed better prognosis which were shown 73% of 5 year survival rate than not neck dissection which were reveal 45% of 5 year survival rate. In TNM stage of patients, advanced stage showed worse prognosis, but only N stage did not suggest to judge good prognosis. Most patients were treated under postoperative radiation therapy and showed better prognosis.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Development of techniques for the preservation of mammalian spermatogonial stem cells (SSCs) is a critical step in commercial application of SSC based technologies, including species preservation, amplification of agriculturally valuable germ lines, and human fertility preservations. The objective of this study was to develop an efficient cryopreservation protocol for preservation of bovine SSCs using a slow freezing technique. To maximize the efficiency of SSC cryopreservation, the effects of various methods (tissue vs. cell freezing) and cryoprotective agents (trehalose, sucrose, and polyethylene glycol [PEG]) were tested. Following thawing, cells were enriched for undifferentiated spermatogonia by differential plating and evaluated for recovery rate, proliferation capacity, and apoptosis. Additionally, putative stem cell activity was assessed using SSC xenotransplantation. The recovery rate, and proliferation capacity of undifferentiated spermatogonia were significantly greater for germ cells frozen using tissue freezing methods compared to cell freezing methods. Cryopreservation in the presence of 200mM trehalose resulted in significantly greater recovery rate, proliferation capacity, and apoptosis of germ cells compared to control. Furthermore, cryopreservation using the tissue freezing method in the presence of 200mM trehalose resulted in the production of colonies of donor-derived germ cells after xenotransplantation into recipient mouse testes, indicating putative stem cell function. Collectively, these data indicate that cryopreservation using tissue freezing methods in the presence of 200mM trehalose is an efficient cryopreservation protocol for bovine SSCs.</P>

<P>Spermatogonial stem cells (SSCs) are adult male germ cells that develop after birth. Throughout the lifetime of an organism, SSCs sustain spermatogenesis through self-renewal and produce daughter cells that differentiate into spermatozoa. Several studies have demonstrated that SSCs can acquire pluripotency under appropriate culture conditions, thus becoming multipotent germline stem cells (mGSCs) that express markers of pluripotency in culture and form teratomas following transplantation into immunodeficient mice. In the present study, we generated neural precursor cells expressing CD24, a neural precursor marker, from pluripotent stem cell lines and demonstrated that these cells effectively differentiated along a neural lineage in vitro. In addition, we found that paracrine factors promoted CD24 expression during the neural differentiation of mGSCs. Our results indicated that the expression of CD24, enhanced by a combination of retinoic acid (RA), noggin and fibroblast growth factor 8 (FGF8) under serum-free conditions promoted neural precursor differentiation. Using a simple cell sorting method, we were able to collect neural precursor cells with the potential to differentiate from mGSCs into mature neurons and astrocytes in vitro.</P>

Catastrophic antiphospholipid syndrome is a rare clinical syndrome characterized by acute multi-organ failure occurring in patients with antiphospholipid antibodies. It is associated with involvement of several end-organs particularly kidneys, lungs, gastrointestinal tracts and adrenal glands and presents catastrophic clinical pictures such as acute renal failure with thrombotic microangiopathy, myocardial failure, adult respiratory distress syndrome, convulsion and disseminated intravascular coagulation. Conventional treatments(e.g. intravenous heparin, steroid, immunosuppressants) were not effective, while plasmapheresis seems to be a useful therapy. We experienced a case of catastrophic primary antiphospholipid syndrome in 41-year-old woman proved by renal biopsy and immuno-serological tests. She developed acute renal failure, multiple esophageal and oral ulcers, adult respiratory distress syndrome, abnormal elevation of hepatic and pancreatic enzymes and signs of disseminated intravascular coagulation. Evidences of any other connective tissue diseases were not found. Renal biopsy revealed features of thrombotic microangiopathic nephropathy and serum antiphospholipid antibody level was elevated(34GPL). In spite of steroid, cyclophosphamide and supportive therapies, her respiratory distress was not improved.

N/A The therapeutic requirements of patients with non-erosive reflux disease (NERD) are similar to those with erosive esophagitis. The pharmacological action mechanism of prokinetics is quite different; domperidone is a peripheral dopamine D2-antagonist and cisapride is a HT4-agonist. This study was performed to evaluate the therapeutic effect of these two different prokinetics in patients with NERD. Methods: 178 patients, with heartburn and/or regurgitation, without reflux esophagitis were enrolled and divided into 2 groups by randomization code. In this prospective multicenter trial, 178 patients (93 patients in cisapride group, 85 patients in domperidone group) received 10 mg of cisapride three times a day or 10 mg of domperidone three time a day for 2 or 4 weeks. Symptom assessment was performed in each patients before treatments, 2 and 4 weeks after treatment. Results: Of the 133 patients available for final analysis, 65 were allocated to the cisapride group and 68 to the domperidone group. After 2 weeks treatment, heartburn was reduced in 81.1% of cisapride group, 56.7% of domperidone group (p<0.05) and regurgitation was reduced in 89.7% of cisapride group, 77.7% of domperidone group. After 4 weeks treatment, heartburn was reduced in 94.3% of cisapride group, 88.7% of domperidone group and this difference was not significant. The proportion of adverse events in cisapride group was 9.4% and was 5.5% in domperidone group. Conclusions: Cisapride tartrate was more effective in relieving heartburn in NERD patients than domperidone maleate after 2 week treatment. However, this superior effect dose not persist longer than 2 weeks.(Korean Journal of Gastrointestinal Motility 2002;8:3-13)
