Synthesis and Antibacterial Activity of 1,3-Diallyltrisulfane Derivatives

A series of novel 1,3-diallyltrisulfane analogues were synthesized and assayed in vitro for antimicrobial activity against Gram positive, Gram negative bacteria and fungi. The antimicrobial activity of the 1,3-diallyltrisulfane derivatives showed, on the whole, very potent towards all the tested Gram positive, Gram negative and fungi (MIC ranging from 4 to 256 μg/mL). 1,3-Di(pent-4-enyl)trisulfane 3b and 1,3-bis(3-methylbut-2-enyl)trisulfane 3e exhibited the strongest antibacterial activity among all the compounds, and both of them were more active than 1,3-diallyltrisulfane (DATS). Results indicated the relationship of either carbon number or lipophilicity with antimicrobial activity presented “V” shape. These observations provided some predictions in order to further design 1,3-diallyltrisulfane derivatives with antimicrobial activity.

We are presenting the first documented case of amisulpride related ventricular arrhythmia during tracheal intubation and extubation under general anesthesia in an 48 year-old female with psychiatric history of chronic schizophrenia who was treated with amisulpride. This case suggests the threshold of perioperative arrhythmia is possibly decreased in patients with long-term antipsychotic medication. So, the potential risk of antipsychotics-induced perioperative arrhythmia should be evaluated, as well as heart rhythm monitoring, prophylactic use of antiarrhythmic drugs, and preoperative adjustment of antipsychotics should be considered.
An Active Radial Compliance Method with Anisotropic Stiffness Learning for Precision Assembly

Compliance is essential for precision assembly, which provides motion guidance and damage avoidance. Force control can offer flexible implementation of active compliance for manipulators. In this paper, an active radial compliance method is developed for the insertion task of thin walled millimeter-sized cylinders. A radial force controller is designed to satisfy the contact force constraint in the component's radial directions, which integrates the explicit force control with the high precision attitude measurement based on microscopic vision. An anisotropic stiffness learning method is proposed based on clustering and support vector machines. It can obtain the hidden anisotropic stiffness characteristics of the mechanical system from experience data. Experimental results verify the effectiveness of the proposed methods.
NEGATIVELY BOUNDED SOLUTIONS FOR A PARABOLIC PARTIAL DIFFERENTIAL EQUATION

In this note, we introduce a new proof of the unique-ness and existence of a negatively bounded solution for a parabolic partial differential equation. The uniqueness in particular implies the finiteness of the Fourier spanning dimension of the global attractor and the existence allows a construction of an inertial manifold.
Complete classification of shape functions of self-similar solutions

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>In this paper we study some asymptotic profiles of shape functions of self-similar solutions to the initial-boundary value problem with <I>Neumann</I> boundary condition for the generalized KPZ equation: <SUB>ut</SUB>=<SUB>uxx</SUB>−<SUP>|<SUB>ux</SUB>|q</SUP>, where <I>q</I> is positive number. The shapes of solutions of the corresponding nonlinear ordinary differential equation are of very different nature. The properties depend on the critical value q=1,32,2 and initial data as usual.</P>

Background: Ginsenosides with less sugar moieties may exhibit the better adsorptive capacity and more pharmacological activities. Methods: An efficient method for the separation of four minor saponins, including gypenoside XVII, notoginsenoside Fe, ginsenoside Rd2, and notoginsenoside Fd, from Panax notoginseng leaves (PNL) was established using biotransformation, macroporous resins, and subsequent preparative high-performance liquid chromatography. Results: The dried PNL powder was immersed in the distilled water at 50C for 30 min for converting the major saponins, ginsenosides Rb1, Rc, Rb2, and Rb3, to minor saponins, gypenoside XVII, notoginsenoside Fe, ginsenoside Rd2, and notoginsenoside Fd, respectively, by the enzymes present in PNL. The adsorption characteristics of these minor saponins on five types of macroporous resins, D-101, DA-201, DM-301, X-5, and S-8, were evaluated and compared. Among them, D-101 was selected due to the best adsorption and desorption properties. Under the optimized conditions, the fraction containing the four target saponins was separated by D-101 resin. Subsequently, the target minor saponins were individually separated and purified by preparative high-performance liquid chromatography with a reversed-phase column. Conclusion: Our study provides a simple and efficient method for the preparation of these four minor saponins from PNL, which will be potential for industrial applications.
A VERY SINGULAR SOLUTION OF A DOUBLY DEGENERATE PARABOLIC EQUATION WITH NONLINEAR CONVECTION

We here investigate an existence and uniqueness of the nontrivial, nonnegative solution of a nonlinear ordinary differential equation: $$[\mid(w^m)]'\mid^{p-2}(w^m)']'\;+\;{\beta}rw'\;+\;{\alpha}w\;+\;(w^q)'\;=\;0$$ satisfying a specific decay rate: $lim_{r\rightarrow\infty}\;r^{\alpha/\beta}w(r)$ = 0 with $\alpha$ := (p - 1)/[pd-(m+1)(p-1)] and $\beta$:= [q-m(p-1)]/[pd-(m+1)(p-1)]. Here m(p-1) > 1 and m(p - 1) < q < (m+1)(p-1). Such a solution arises naturally when we study a very singular solution for a doubly degenerate equation with nonlinear convection: $$u_t\;=\;[\mid(u^m)_x\mid^{p-2}(u^m)_x]_x\;+\;(u^q)x$$ defined on the half line.
