Phospholipids from Bombycis corpus and Their Neurotrophic Effects

Three phospholipids (4-6) and three aromatic amines (1-3) were obtained from the methanol extract of Bombycis corpus. Based on spectral data, their structures have been elucidated as nicotiamide (1), cytidine (2), adenine (3), 1-O-(9 Z-octadecenoyl)-2-O-(8 Z,11 Z-octadecadienoyl)- sn-glycero-3-phosphorylcholine (4), 1,2-di-O-hexadecanoyl- sn-glycero-3-phosphorylcholine (5) and 1,2-di-O-9 Z-octadecenoyl- sn-glycero-3-phosphorylcholine (6). We examined the effects of compounds on synthesis of NGF in cultured astrocytes. By RT-PCR analysis, expresison of NGF mRNA in astrocytes cultured in serum-starvation increased after the addition of phospholipid (10 mM). The NGF content in the culture medium was significantly increased by compound 5, compared with the control value. These results suggest that three phospholipid compounds isolated from the methanol extract of Bombycis corpus may exert neurotrophic effects by stimulation of NGF synthesis in astrocytes.

Using the substructure method, numerical models of pile-soil interaction of diagonal and diamond types of jack-up legs were developed for dynamic response analysis. Wave and current forces acting on the leg were calculated using the modified Morison equation. Wind load was computed using the DNV formula. Modal analysis was performed to estimate the eigenvalues of the structure. The Newmark-beta method was used to calculate the dynamic behaviors of the structure in the time domain analysis. Maximum displacement and bending stress were computed for each type of leg. Reliability analysis was carried out for both types of legs to obtain a reliability index for the uncertainty of input wave periods.
Respiratory Effects of the Hebei Spirit Oil Spill on Children in Taean, Korea

Purpose: The oil spill from the Heibei Spirit in December 2007 contaminated the Yellow Coast of South Korea. We evaluated the respiratory effectsof that spill on children who lived along the Yellow Coast. Methods: Of 662 children living in the area exposed to the oil spill, 436 (65.9%)were enrolled as subjects. All subjects completed a modified International Study of Asthma and Allergies in Childhood questionnaire. A health examination,including a skin prick test, pulmonary function test, and methacholine bronchial provocation test (MBPT), was administered. The childrenwere assigned to two groups: those who lived close to the oil spill area and those who lived far from the oil spill area. Results: The children wholived close to the oil spill area showed a significantly lower forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1), an increased prevalence of ‘asthma ever’(based on a questionnaire), and ‘airway hyperresponsiveness’ (based on the MBPT) than those who lived far from the oil spill area (FEV1; P=0.011,prevalence of ‘asthma ever’ based on a questionnaire; P=0.005, prevalence of ‘airway hyperresponsiveness’ based on the MBPT; P=0.001). The onsetof wheezing after the oil spill was significantly higher in children who lived close to the oil spill area than in those who lived far from the oil spillarea among the ‘wheeze ever’ group (P=0.002). In a multiple logistic regression analysis, male sex, family history of asthma, and residence near theoil spill area were significant risk factors for asthma (sex [male/female]: odds ratio [OR], 2.54; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.31-4.91; family historyof asthma [No/Yes]: OR, 3.77; 95% CI, 1.83-7.75; exposure group [low/high]; OR, 2.43; 95% CI, 1.27-4.65). Conclusions: This study suggests thatexposure to an oil spill is a risk factor for asthma in children.

This study analyzes the expense structure of the air transport industry, based on the cost and income data of 18 major airlines, estimates the economic effectiveness of scale and conducts comparative analysis. As for the method of analysis, Translog cost function and the Fourier flexible function were used. The result showed that big companies had the economy of scale based on the Translog cost function, while the Fourier flexible function led to a estimation that expanding the input is not recommended, for the expansion of scale entails the poor economy of scale. It can be presumed that the economy of scale was estimated according to the U shape of the Translog cost function in the given data. On the other hand, the Fourier flexible cost function approaches the unknown function, as it is a Fourier series, and correctly infers the economy of scale based on the analyzed data. As for the flag carrier's economy of scale, it was inferred that the economy of scale existed by any of two functions. Therefore, the conclusion was that further expanding the scale will not cause any problem.

Ultra Precision Machining Techniques, such as manufacturing Micro Lens Array(MLA), off-axis mirror, F-θ lens for laser printer, are achieved, based on technologies in consequence of development of modern high-precision machining mechanism. Above all, FTS(Fast Tool Servo) and STS(Slow Tool Servo) are more innovative technologies for reducing time and development costs. In this paper, it is described that MLA machining technique by FTS, off-axis mirror machining technique by STS, optics for observing space, and development of infrared aspheric lens for a thermal imaging microscope.

Submerged breakwaters can be installed underneath floating structures to reduce the external wave loads acting on the structure. The objective of this study was to establish an optimization analysis framework to determine the corresponding shape and position of the submerged breakwater that can minimize or maximize the external forces acting on the floating structure. A two-dimensional frequency-domain boundary element method (FD-BEM) based on the linear potential theory was developed to perform the hydrodynamic analysis. A metaheuristic algorithm, the advanced particle swarm optimization, was newly coupled to the FD-BEM to perform the optimization analysis. The optimization analysis process was performed by calling FD-BEM for each generation, performing a numerical analysis of the design variables of each particle, and updating the design variables using the collected results. The results of the optimization analysis showed that the height of the submerged breakwater has a significant effect on the surface piercing body and that there is a specific area and position with an optimal value. In this study, the optimal values of the shape and position of a single submerged breakwater were determined and analyzed so that the external force acting on a surface piercing body was minimum or maximum.

A Study on the writer and story-writing date of Hanmoonchunhyanggeon is one of our major researches in classical as and important process of organizing Chunhyanggeon. so, I world like to render great academic advance in studying writers and story-writing date of two texts of Hanmoonchunhyanggeon which is diverse in opinions in academic circles. Conclusion of this paper are as follows ; The story-writing date of Chunhyangsinsul is 1864, and the writer is not Teo-lim Mok who is insisted by some scholars in academic circles but unidentified right now. And the first edition date of Heuntohanmooncunhyangeon is 1917, and Chul-Gin Wu who si recognized as a writer is regarded as an ordinary publisher. I believe these conclusions can devote much help in studying Chunhyanggeon and discussing aspects of Gookmoonchunhyanggeon and Hanmoonchunhyanggeon in the future.
