        The in-cylinder combustion phenomena of internal combustion engine have been the subject of many researches. However, a number of early studies were carried out by using the combustion pressure measurement or the visualization of flame propagation with modifications of engine hardware or rig equipments and thus their applications to engine development process were rather I imi ted. In order to investicate the<br/> flame propagation of the gasoline engine wi thout any modi fications of<br/> <br/> engine hardware, the ion probes are installed at cylinder head.<br/> <br/> The<br/> <br/> measurement technique is based upon the ion current detecting method. The applicability of the ion probe sensor is confirmed with a-engine<br/> at different engine operating parameters.<br/> The test results indicate that the ion probe sensor provides enough information of mean flame propagation speed and flame behaviors in the<br/> combustion chamber.<br/>

      • 현대 FFV(Flexible Fuel Vehicle)개발

        This paper describes Hyundai's research and development work on a flexible fuel vehicle (FFV). The work on FFV has been conducted to evaluate its potential as an alternative to the conventional gasoline vehicle. Hyundai FFV described here can be operated on M85, gasoline, any of their combinations, in which the methanol concentration is measured by an electrostatic type fuel sensor. For that operation, a special FFV ECU(Electronic Control Uni t) has been developed and incorporated in the FFV.<br/> The characteristics affecting FFV operation, such as FFV ECU control strategy and injector flow rate, have been investigated and optimized by experiment. And various development tests have been performed in view of engine performance, durabi1ity, cold startabi1ity, and exhaust emissions reduction. The exhaust gas aftertreatment system consisting of manifold type catalyst and secondary air injection system shows good emission reduction performance including formaldehyde, and finally, the possibility of the FFVs as low emission vehicles is evaluated by presenting NMOG(Non-Methane Organic Gases) levels with respect to MO and M8S, Withthese results, it is concluded that it has possiblity for FFVs to be a candidate of low emission vehicles, but more work on its durability improvement should be required.<br/>

        In this study, an aluminum electric motor car with a modular front end made of composite materials is numerically evaluated applying the standard specifications for the urban EMU(Electric Multiple Unit) train. Structural analyses under compressive load, torsional load and free vibration satisfy the standard specifications, but analysis under normal load doesn"t. By the way, the aluminum body shell of the car except the modular front end is almost same to that of the Korean standard EMU, which satisfy the standard specifications. It is presumed that the stiffness of the modular front end made of composite materials haves some influence on the strength of the aluminum bodyshell.

        HLA 항원이 동일한 자매에서 병발한 IgA 신병증

        This report described HLA identical sisters with IgA nephropathy, and it is the first case with HLA identical IgA nephropathy in Korea. The elder sister had frequent episodes of gross hematuria associated with upper respiratory tract infection, and younger sister had one episode of gross hematuria only. The renal biopsies revealed diffuse mesangial deposition of IgA, accompanied by lesser amount of C3 in immunofluorescent microscopy. Light and electron microscopic findings were compatible with IgA nephropathy. The HLA antigens were identical, which were All Aw24, B27 Bw35, Cwl Cw4, These findings are interesting in view of the association of IgA nephropathy with HLA-Bw35 antigen. Asike piror reports of HLA identical brothers with IgA nephropathy.

        Castleman 씨 병에 동반된 신유전분증

        Castlemam's disease is an asymptomatic and benign lymph node hyperplasia which is frequently manifested as mediastinal mass in over 70% of cases. Amyloidosis is rarely associated with Castleman's disease. Recently we experienced a patient with nephrotic syndrome due to renal amyloidosis who had been previously diagnosed as Castleman's disease of retroperitoneal lymph node enlargement. A 47-year old woman was admitted because of generalized edema and chest tightness. Five months ago she diagnosed as Castlman's disease-plasma cell type, of retroperitoneal lymph node enlargement. The patient was followed up through outpatient department without any specific medication. Physical examination showed pale conjunctivae, palpable mass on epigastric area and pretibial pitting edema. The hemoglobin, leukocyte count and erythrocyte sedimentation rate were 96 g/L, 5.9×109/L and 127 mm/hour, respectively. The blood urea nitogen was 3.6 mmol/L and creatinine was 88 umol/L. The urinalysis showed 3 positive for albumin. Twentyfour hour urine contained 16.6 grams of protein. A computerized tomographic (CT) scan of the abdomen disclosed multiple lymph node enlargement at mesentery. Percutaneous needle biopsy of kidney showed massive infiltration of pale pinkish amorphous material in the glomerular tuft forming large nodules. Ultrastructural examination exhibited heavy deposition of amyloid fibrils in the mesangium and perpendicular to glomerular basement membrane. Polarizing microscopy with Congo-red stain revealed prominent yellow green birefringence in glomeruli, tubules and interstitium.
