Theta-role plays many important roles in syntax. Theta-criterion, regulating the number of arguments in a sentence, and UTAH, regulating the order of arguments in a sentence, are among them. Also we can appreciate that the passivization and raising construction is governed by the same grammatical rule by means of theta-roles. However, it seems that the role of the theta-role is not restricted to the syntax. Theta-roles might play an important role in connecting syntax and semantics/pragmatics. The role in connecting syntax and semantics/pragmatics played by the theta role can be seen in resultative secondary predicate construction and subject control promise-construction. In both constructions, we can encounter problematic syntactic phenomenon, which can not be accounted for only in syntax. However, such problems can be easily explained in semantics and pragmatics, respectively. Especially, some predicates can not coexist in a resultative secondary predicate construction can be explained by contradiction in semantics and subject control property in promise-construction can be explained by speech act theory in pragmatics. To this end, there must be a grammatical apparatus connecting syntactic component and semantic/pragmatic component. And theta-role might fulfill that role.

A reusable and efficient photo-catalyst based on halloysites (HNTs) and La3+ ion-doped TiO2nanoparticles was prepared using a sol-gel process and a sonochemical method for decomposingorganic dyes. As a support, the HNTs increased the adsorption efficiency of substrates, improving thephotocatalytic activity of TiO2 nanoparticles by3 times. The La3+ ion doping of TiO2 decreased thebandgap from 3.25 eV to 3.01 eV, expanding the spectral response to the visible region and enhancing thephotocatalytic activity under the sunlight by 1.5 times. Through the integration of the halloysite supportand the La3+ ion doping of TiO2, the synergistic enhancement of photocatalytic activity was observed andsystematically investigated using XRD, Raman spectroscopy, FT-IR, FE-SEM, EDX-TEM, and zeta potential. In this research, we used Rhodamine B molecules as a model pollutant. During the decomposing process,the HNTs enhanced the local dye concentration nearby the photo-catalyst through the electrostaticinteraction, thereby boosting the photocatalytic activity by3 times. Additionally, the catalyst can beseparated by simple centrifugation and reused at leastfive recycles without any activity decrease. Thehalloysite support, the La3+ ion doping of TiO2 and their simple synthesis approach could provide apractical tool for environmental purification in wastewater using sunlight.
우황청심원 관련 최근 연구 동향 : 국내 논문에 대한 고찰

Objectives : Woohwangchungsim-won has been used for acute diseases such as cerebrovascular disease (stroke), heart disease. The aim of this study was to determine the effects, significance & necessity of Woohwangchungsim-won in acute stages of these disease by reviewing Korean articles about Woohwangchungsim-won. Methods : Article searches were performed on 8 major Korean web article search engine from January 1980 to August 2010. There were no restrictions on the types of publication, including grey articles. Results : Forty-three articles were included. Twenty one were efficacy tests, thirteen were comparative efficacy tests, eight were toxicity tests, and one was new method development. Eighteen articles were multicenter studies and twenty five were single center studies. Thirty two articles were animal testing, only ten articles were clinical articles. Thirty seven articles presented the composition and quantity of Woohwangchungsim-won, but six did not. Conclusions : The results of Korean articles about Woohwangchungsim-won can not strongly support the effects, significance & necessity of Woohwangchungsim-won. More rigorous studies are required for determination of the effects of Woohwangchungsim-won.
Navigation Signals Based on Orthogonal Tiered Polyphase Code

A navigation signal based on orthogonal tiered polyphase code was proposed. For the proposed signal, tiered polyphase code was used as the code of a pilot channel. Tiered polyphase code is a complex number type code, and thus the pilot channel and data channel were separated using the Walsh code which makes the correlation between different codes become 0. The results of the simulation indicated that the correlation characteristics and signal acquisition performance of the proposed signal were identical to those of tiered polyphase code, and that the disadvantage of tiered polyphase code could be supplemented through a data channel in terms of signal tracking.
