Collecting duct carcinoma of the kidney is an unusual variety of renal carcinoma considered to arise from the epithelium of the collecting ducts. We recently experienced a case of fine needle aspiration cytology of collecting duct carcinoma of the kidney in a 17 year-old girl. The smear revealed many cellular clusters of ordinary papillary pattern, characterized by clumping of cells with nuclear overlapping, in a slightly necrotic background. The tumor cells had abundant delicate granular cytoplasm with some having vacuolation. The nuclei were only slightly pleomorphic with somewhat coarse chromatin and one or more small nucleoli Some nuclei showed irregular nuclear membrane and nuclear groove. A few polymorphs were also present.
GaN 고출력 증폭기의 초소형 레이다 적용에 관한 연구

Trend on high-power GaN(Gallium Nitride) SSPA(Solid-State Power Amplifier) and its availability in miniature radar systems are presented. There are numerous studies on high-power GaN devices since they have some characteristics of high-breakdown voltage, high power density, and high-temperature stability. Recent scaled GaN technology makes it possible to apply it in SSPAs for W- and G-band applications, with increasing its maximum frequency. In addition, it leads to downsizing and power-efficiency improvement of SSPAs, which means that GaN SSPAs can be available in miniature radar systems. This study also shows radar performance and comparison in the case of using such SSPAs at three frequency bands of Ku, Ka, and W. Finally, we demonstrate prospects of scaled GaN SSPAs in future miniature radar systems.

Proliferative fasciitis is a benign pseudosarcomatous mesenchymal lesion occurring in the subcutis. The lesion occurs clinically as a tumorous mass that develops within a rather short time in elderly patients. We recently experiecened a case of fine needle aspiration cytology of proliferative fasciitis in the left anterior chest wall of a 72 year-old male patient. The smear revealed two types of cells. One was the large and mostly oval cell with one or two nuclei lying at the periphery of the cell body and abundant basophilic cytoplasm like the ganglion cell. The nuclei were round to oval, had vesicular chromatin and contained prominent nucleoli. The other was the spindle shaped fibroblast with an oval nucleus. The differential diagnosis includes a true tumor such as ganglioneuroma, rhabdomyosarcoma, and liposarcoma and therefore fine needle aspiration cytology is very much indicated in order to exclude these possibilities.

Eosinophilic gastroenteritis (EG) is an uncommon disorder characterized by presence of gastrointestinal symptoms, eosinophilic infiltration of one or more divisions of the gastrointestinal tract without involvement of other organs, and absence of infestation by parasites. The etiology and the pathogenesis of EG are poorly understood. The clinical presentation depends on the gastrointestinal division affected and the wall layers infiltrated. The usual symptoms are abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting, and recurrent ascites. Involvement of the serosa, observed in 10% of cases, typically results in the formation of eosinophilic ascites. It has been suggested that EG can be accompanied by extraintestinal involvement, although, it is very unusual. We experienced a case of eosinophilic enterocolitis involving small bowel and colon with eosinophilic ascites and cystitis in a 40-year-old male with abdominal pain and watery diarrhea. 가상 현미경을 이용한 병리학 실습 교재의 시험적 제작과 적용

Purpose: Learning the concepts of pathology can be facilitated by repeated learning situations with illustrative pathology images. Virtual microscopes are digital facsimiles of glass slides that can be viewed on a computer screen. This study was designed to evaluate the possibility of using virtual microscopes as a teaching modality in the pathology laboratory. Methods: The virtual microscope was produced from high resolution images scanned by an exclusive slide scanner from newly made teaching glass slides. The final teaching material was put up on personal computers in the computer laboratory, classroom, and medical library. Results: This material was easily accessed by exclusive viewers. The students readily adapted to the use of virtual microscopes. The quality of the images in this material was appropriate for viewing. The response from the students displayed highly significant differences between the traditional and virtual microscopes, with the virtual microscope being preferred. Conclusion: The virtual microscopes in this study were helpful for medical students studying pathology. The results of this implementation suggest that virtual microscope technology may be extended to other educational venues where traditional microscopes and photomicrographs are currently used.

Psoriasis vulgaris is one of the most common skin diseases in the world, which is recognized as an autoimmune disease that is caused by genetic and environmental factors. Plaque, guttate, pustular form, and psoriatic erythroderma are known as classical feature of psoriasis with tendency as generalized or sporadic appearance. There are some cases of uncommon forms in the shape and distribution, as nevoid and linear psoriasis. Linear psoriasis is a rare entity and thought as a variant of psoriasis, but its existence is still in debate. Herein, we report an interesting case of 19-year old Korean man with psoriasis, occurring on the right arm, following the line of Blaschko in a linear form. (Korean J Dermatol 2012;50(4):377∼380)

건활막 거대세포종은 관절 내에 드물게 발생하는 병변으로 양측 슬관절 내에 발생하는 경우는 국소형보다는 미만형에서 많은 것으로 알려져 있다. 따라서 양측 슬관절 내에 발생한 국소형 건막 거대세포종을 보고하는 문헌은 제한되어 있으며 특히 슬개대퇴간 동통을 초래한 양측에 발생한 국소형 건활막 거대세포종의 국내 보고는 없었다. 저자들은 양측 슬관절 전방부의 동통을 초래한 건활막 거대세포종 증례를 관절경하에서 절제 후 병리학적으로 확진 하였으며 임상적으로 좋은 결과를 보였기에 문헌고찰과 함께 보고하고자 한다. A localized tenosynovial giant cell tumor rarely affects the bilateral knee joint compared to the diffuse form. Only a few cases can be found in the literature, and there is no case report of the bilateral localized form of giant cell tumor causing patellofemoral pain syndrome in Korea. This study experienced a case of bilateral localized giant cell tumor, causing patellofemoral pain syndrome. The tumor was excised arthroscopically and confirmed pathologically. This paper reports this case with a review of the relevant literature.

The effect of air impurities on PEMFC performances were studied using electrochemical analysis, such as OCV monitoring, polarization, constant current operation, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The nitrogen dioxide in air lowered the operation voltage at 1 A/cm² by 160 mV (10 ppm) and 227 mV (100 ppm), while the carbon monoxide effect was relatively not significant (30 mV at 100 ppm). For both nitrogen dioxide and carbon monoxide, the performances were largely recovered when pure air was provided again. Further study for additional air impurities and simulated air are under progress to provide fundamental data for the design of fuel cell vehicles.
