This study examines domestic research on meditation conducted for primary school students. 48 dissertations published from 2009 to 2017 are categorized and investigated by year, type of degree, field of study, and research methods. The number of research studies conducted for primary school students decreased rapidly during the nine-year period. Nine doctoral theses were published, which amounts to only one-fourth of master’s theses written. Furthermore, less research can be found regarding the lower graders(25%) than on the upper graders (73.7%). The average time of a meditation session is 40.7min, which is equivalent to the average class time. Research on concentration meditation accounts for 43.8%, but the preference for the type of meditation differs according to academic fields. Evidence shows that mindfulness meditation is most preferred by the education department at 20.8% and concentration meditation is emphasized by the counseling and psychology fields at 18.8%. Within Buddhist studies, however, concentration meditation is only applied at 4.2%. More interest in developing and extending meditation programs for primary school students needs to be attracted from the researchers of Buddhist studies. When analyzing research by subject regarding the core competency improved by meditation, it is found that research has mostly focused on self- management(37.9%). Also, the research is analyzed by the number of participants and sessions, and the type of meditation. As a result, it is found that varied research methods need to be applied and that interdisciplinary research between the education department, Buddhist studies and contemplative studies is required to develop meditation programs for primary school students. This study has significance in that it is the first attempt to analyze domestic dissertations on meditation for primary school students.

Choiyeolbujeon, Gimjanggunjeon and Dongniseonsaengjeon have common point. Firstly, main characters show a 'lack' before they accomplish their tasks related faith(fidelity or filial duty). This 'lack' does not exist for the formula that 'they accomplished it despite the 'lack'. To make the formula correct, the lack should have been means for faith to achieve Confucianism, and the theme of Jeon should definitely have sticked to the Confucianism. However, three Jeon of Josusam do not hold faith, fidelity and filial duty as a result of 'lack', but purity and immersion of characters. The results of the purity and immersion are only connected to public ideology, i.e., faith, fidelity and filial duty. Secondly, these three Jeon do not concentrate on the Confucianism of 'faith, fidelity and filial duty'. Regardless of purity, immersion and confucian ideology by education, Josusam considers unfair judgement about the results of 'faith, fidelity and filial duty'. Finally, Josusam keeps his distance from conservative Jeon which generally describes confucian characters, but he criticizes the unfair world preferring ideological judgement about people's life. Therefore, the understanding his five Jeon that they have a contradiction between confucian ideology and free spirit is a result of superficial reading. This superficial understanding might derive from the author Josusam's characteristics intending the suggestive subject by organization and literary style instead of straight exposure.
