This study examines the changes in chlorogenic acid (CGA), an antioxidant, and one of its decomposition substances, caffeic acid, at various roasting stages and extraction conditions. Based on the CGA content for each roasting stage, at $3^{\circ}C$ after the beginning of the $1^{st}$ crack, the CGA decreased for washed beans and natural beans by more than 50% compared to that of green coffees. The CGA continued to decrease sharply by more than 75% at the end of the $1^{st}$ crack for washed beans and at $5^{\circ}C$ after the end of the $1^{st}$ crack for natural beans. At the peak of the $2^{nd}$ crack, it had decreased by more than 90% for both beans. The Caffeic acid content gradually increased for both washed and natural beans, then rapidly increased from the beginning of the $2^{nd}$ crack to the peak of the $2^{nd}$ crack. However, its contents were very small in quantity. Additionally, the content of CGAs for differing extraction conditions were in the order of 3-CGA, Crypto-CGA, and Neo-CGA. Crypto-CGA content was about half that of 3-CGA and Neo-CGA content was approximately 100 ppm less than that of Crypto-CGA. This study was conducted in order to help make coffee that has the most antioxidant effect.

Antimicrobial acitivity of chitosan fiber was reinforced by N-halamine which is a compound containing nitrogen-chlorine covalent bond that is formed by halogenation of amine in chitosan. Upon pH and chlorination time of sodium hypochlorite solution, aminogroup in chitosan fiber was differnetly chlorinated according to respective conditions. The chlorination of chitosan fiber was confirmed by iodometric titration. The results obtained are following: longer reaction time caused the chlorination of chitosan fibers to increase, and acidic conditions during the treatemnt was more effective compared to alkaline or neutral conditions. The chlorinated chitosan fibers showed powerful antimicrobial activity against both E. coli and S. aureus. SEM observations demonstrated that the chlorinated chitosan fibers were not damaged under the acidic treatment condition.

Cockayne syndrome is a rare autosomal recessive disorder characterized by cachectic dwafism, mental retardation, loss of facial subcutaneous adipose tissue, microcephaly and photosensitive dermatitis. It is associated with renal abnormalities characterized by hyalinization of glomeruli, atrophy of tubules and interstitial fibrosis. To our knowledge, this is the first report of a case of Cockayne syndrome with FSGS in Korea. A 7-year old boy was admitted for evaluation of hypertension and proteinuria, which were detected 2 month ago. He was followed for short stature(<3 percentile), mental retardation(IQ 55), strabismus and dental caries since 3 years ago. He also showed microcephaly, a bird-like face and relatively large hands and feet. Laboratory findings showed decreased creatinine clearance($C_{Cr}$ 76.1 mL/min/$1.73m^2$) and proteinuria(1,548 mg/day). Renal biopsy demonstrated focal segmental glomerulosclerosis of the hilar type with large hyaline deposits, moderate tubular atrophy and interstitial fibrosis. His cardinal features, mental retardation, and renal biopsy findings were consistent with Cockayne syndrome. We report here a very rare case of Cockayne syndrome with FSGS presenting with proteinuria and hypertension. Cockayne 증후군은 지능저하와 발육부전을 특징으로 하며 피부의 광과민성, 색소성의 망막증, 백내장, 신경전도성 귀머거리 외에 다기관 이상을 동반하는 드문 질환이다. 신장학적 이상 소견 또한 드물지 않게 동반되는 합병증 중 하나이며 병리학적으로 사구체의 유리질화, 세뇨관의 위축 및 간질 내 섬유화가 관찰될 수 있다. 저자들은 7세된 남아에서 Cockayne 증후군의 특징적인 외모와 임상양상을 확인하고 동반된 국소 분절성 사구체 경화증을 진단하였기에 문헌 고찰과 함께 보고하는 바이다.

A sensory evaluation was conducted through a professional coffee maker about the flavor and preference of fermented coffee. Two types of fermented capsule coffee liquid type and powder type developed by the (Re) Fermentation Microorganism Industry Promotion Agency, which are related to research institutes in Jeonbuk region, were used as samples, and the control group used commercially available non-fermented capsule coffee powder type and liquid type. The overall preference and attribute cognitive strength of coffee showed higher values than those of non-fermented capsule coffees in both liquid and powder form of fermented capsule coffee. Preference of coffee was found in the highest fermentation capsule coffee liquid type, followed by fermented capsule coffee powder type, non-fermented capsule coffee powder type, non-fermentation capsule coffee liquid type. We hope that this study will help the industrial development of fermented coffee.

목 적 : 수면은 여러 신경계 질환과 서로 영향을주고 받는다. 신경계 질환에 의해 수면장애가 나타날 수 있고, 수면장애가 신경계 질환을 악화시킬 수있다. 본 연구는 소아청소년기의 대표적인 신경계질환인 간질과 만성두통 환자의 수면양상에 대해서알아보고자 하였다.방 법:소아신경클리닉 외래를 방문하는 6-18세의 간질 환자와 만성두통 환자를 대상으로 설문지를통해 수면양상을 관찰하였다. 운동장애, 염색체이상,또는 신경근육질환 등을 동반한 환자는 제외하였다.결 과:총 276명(간질 200명, 만성두통 76명)에게 시행되었고, 연령은 11.8±3.3세였다. 만성두통군이 간질군에 비해 평일의 수면시간이 짧았으며,아침에 일어나기 어렵고, 자야할 시간에 자려고 하지 않고, 다리에 간질간질하거나 벌레가 기어다니는듯한 이상감각을 느끼고, 낮에 과도하게 졸리고, 쉽게 화가 나고 무기력해지는 등의 수면 관련 증상이간질군에 비해 만성두통군의 더 많은 환자에서 관찰되었다.결 론 : 소아청소년기 만성두통과 간질 환자들은상당수에서 수면문제를 동반하고 있고, 만성두통 환자들에서 보다 빈번하다. 소아청소년기 만성두통과간질의 진단과 치료에 동반하는 수면장애에 대한 파악과 이에 대한 적절한 대처가 필요하다. Purpose : Sleep is correlated with various neurological disorders. Epilepsy and chronic headaches(CH) are the most common causes of visiting children in neurology clinics. The aim of the present study is to evaluate the sleeping patterns of patients with epilepsy and CH. Methods : Children and adolescents of between the ages 6-18 suffering from epilepsy or CH were assessed using the sleep questionnaires. Patients with motor disabilities, chromosomal abnormalities or neuromuscular diseases were excluded. Results : Sleeping patterns of the 276 patients were analyzed(200 epilepsy and 76 CH). The mean age of the patients was 11.8±3.3 years. CH patients had more excessive daytime sleepiness, shorter total sleep time on weekday, later bedtime, and more trouble getting up in the morning than epilepsy patients(P
