Modeling and control of lateral vibration of an axially translating flexible link

Manipulators used for the transportation of large panel-shape payloads often adopt long and slender links (or forks) with translationaljoins to carry the payloads. As the size of the payload increases, the length of the links also increases to hold the payload securely. Theincreased length of the link inevitably amplifies the effect of the flexure in the link. Intuitively, the translational motion of the link in itslongitudinal direction should have no effect on the lateral vibration of the link because of the orthogonality between the direction of thetranslational motion and the lateral vibration. If, however, the link was flexible and translated horizontally (perpendicular to the gravitationalfield) the asymmetric deflection of the link caused by gravity would break the orthogonality between the two directions, and thelongitudinal motion of the link would excite lateral motion in the link. In this paper, the lateral oscillatory motion of the flexible link in alarge-scale solar cell panel handling robot is investigated where the links carry the panel in its longitudinal direction. The Newtonianapproach in conjunction with the assumed modes method is used for derivation of the equation of motion for the flexible forks wherenon-zero control force is applied at the base of the link. The analysis illustrates the effect of longitudinal motion on the lateral vibrationand dynamic stiffening effect (variation of the natural frequency) of the link due to the translational velocity. Lateral vibration behavior issimulated using the derived equations of the motion. A robust vibration control scheme, the input shaping filter technique, is implementedon the model and the effectiveness of the scheme is verified numerically.
혈중 C-Reactive Protein 농도와 운동과의 연관성

Background and Objectives:Regular exercise protects us against numerous chronic diseases, and reduces the riskof cardiovascular disease. Also, C-reactive protein, a marker of inflammation, is known to be associated with therisk and prognosis of cardiovascular disease. The present study was designed to assess the effects of regular exerciseon the level of high sensitive C-reactive protein (hsCRP). Subjects and Methods:The serum level of hsCRPand the anthropometric indices of adiposity, metabolic variables, blood pressure (BP) and several cardiovascularrisk factors were measured in 18445 subjects. A prospective study of 42 subjects with high baseline levels of hsCRPwas conducted. After 3 months of regular aerobic exercise their hsCRP levels were rechecked and the associationbetween regular exercise and hsCRP analyzed using a cross sectional and prospective study. Results:Age, smoking,hypertension, diabetes and body mass index were found to be independent determinants of an elevatedhsCRP level, but exercise was not found to be associated with a decreased hsCRP level in the cross-sectional study.In the prospective study, the mean serum hsCRP value was significantly reduced after 3 months in the exercisegroup (3.02±1.06 vs. 2.05±1.23 p=0.015), but not in the controls (3.03±1.09 vs. 2.57±1.11 p=0.104).However, the interval changes in hsCRP levels were not different in the exercise compared to the control group(p=0.660). Conclusion:These results suggest that exercise is not an independent determinant of the CRP level.Three months of regular aerobic exercise show a tendency to be associated with a reduction in the hsCRP level,but this putative effect of exercise on the hsCRP level was not significant in healthy subjects. Further larger sample,prospective cohort studies will be required to establish the effect of exercise on the hsCRP level. 배경 및 목적: 규칙적인 운동은 여러 만성질환 및 특히 심혈관질환의 위 험성을 감소시킨다고 알려져있다. 동맥경화의 발생과 진행에 혈관내의 염증반응이 관여하며, 염증반응의 지표 중 하나인 CRP는 심혈관질환의 위험인자로 생각되어지고 있다. 이에 본 저자들은 운동이 CRP에 미치는 영향을 평가하기위해 외 견상 건강한 성인을 대상으로 단면적 연구와 전향적인 연구 를 시행 하였다. 방 법: 2002년 1월부터 2003년 5월까지 성균관대학교 의과대학 강북삼성병원에서 건강 검진을 시행한 사람 중 기저질환이 없는 사람을 대상으로 단면적연구를 시행하였고(18,445명), 이 중 high sensitive C-reactive protein(hsCRP)가 증가되 어 있는 42명을 대상으로 3개월간의 운동 후 혈중 hsCRP의 농도의 변화를 관찰하는 전향적 연구를 시행 하였다. 결 과: 단면적연구에서 나이, 흡연력, 고혈압, 당뇨, 체질량지수가 혈중 hsCRP 농도에 독립적인 인자로 작용을 하고 있었고, 운동은 hsCRP의 감소에 영향을 미치지 않았다. 전향적 연 구시작군에서 나이, 성별, 체질량지수, 혈중지질의 운동군과 대조군 사이에 차이가 없었다. 혈중 hsCRP농도는 대조군에 서 연구시작시보다 3개월 후 감소하였으나 통계적 유의성은 없었고(3.03±1.09 vs 2.57±1.11 p=0.104), 운동군에서는 연구시작시와 비교하여 3개월 후 통계적으로 유의하게 감소 하였다(3.02±1.06 vs 2.05±1.23 p=0.015). 운동군과 대조 군 사이에 혈중 hsCRP의 농도의 변화의 정도가 차이가 있 는지 확인하기 위하여 일반선형모형 반복측정 분산분석을 시 행하였을 시 통계적 유의성이 없었다(p=0.660). 결 론: 운동은 염증반응에 영향을 주는 독립적인 인자가 아니었고, 기저질환이 없이 hsCRP가 증가된 성인들에서 3개월 간의 운동이 혈중 hsCRP의 농도를 감소시키는 경향을 보였으나, 통계적으로 유의한 감소를 관찰할 수 없었고, 추후 운동과 hsCRP의 관계에 대한 더 많은 수의 환자와 다양한 운동을 대상으로 한 전향적 연구가 이루어 져야 하겠다.

In order to improve the energy efficiency and the ride quality of the electric vehicle it is highly desirable to develope a light-weight suspension system with high travle ratio (which is the ratio of the fully extended length to the fully compressed length of the suspension). Air suspension systems with rubber tube are often considered as the optimal answer for such requirements. In this paper, a new light-weight air suspension system with high travel ratio is developed for the use in the electric vehicle. Also a FE-based multi-flexible-body dynamics (MFBD) model of the suspension system is developed as a tool for the design improvement of actual suspension system. The MFBD model includes the FE modeling of the rubber tube module as well as other essential parts of the air suspension system. The system parameters for the model were obtained from various experiments. The validity of the developed MFBD model has been shown by the comparison between the experimental results and the simulation results.
C57BL/6 마우스 모델에서 웅지(곰기름)의 모발 성장 촉진 효과 연구

The hair cycle is into 3 phases including anagen, catagen and telogen. Hair loss is the result of premature catagen caused by apoptotic signal. The process of apoptosis is controlled through the activation of many factors, such as heredity, stress, aging and hormone. Selenarctos thibetanus (bear oil) has been used frequently as an indigenous medicine for moisture, freckle, cold, gray hair and dandruff. In this study, we investigate the effect of bear oil on hair growth in a depilated animal model of C57BL/6 mice. The animals were divided into 4 groups including negative control group (70% EtOH), positive control group (5% MXD), and experimental group (2%, 5% bear oil) and they were topically applied with an amount of 100 μL once a day for 2 weeks. Topical treatment of 5% bear oil for 2 weeks, hair follicles compared to the group to dorsal skin accelerated hair regrowth faster than 2% bear oil group, minoxidil group and 70% EtOH group. Also, hair density was increased The group treated with bear oil markedly increased the depth and size of the hair follicles in compare to the group treated by minoxidil and 70% EtOH. Also, more hair follicles assumed as in anagen were observed. This result explains that bear oil has effect on prolong of anagen phase, so bear oil might be a potential new therapeutic source for the hair growth promotion.

The hair cycle is divided 3 phases into anagen, catagen and telogen. Hair loss is the result of premature catagen caused by apoptotic signal. The process of apoptosis is controlled through the activation of many factors, such as inflammatory cytokines, p53, Bax and Bcl-2 family gene. Vitex rotundifolia has been used frequently as an indigenous medicine for curing headaches, colds, migraine, eye-pain, asthma, chronic bronchitis, and gastrointestinal infections. Recent studies have shown that the extracts from Vitex rotundifolia contain iridoids, flavonoids, and compounds with biochemical properties. In this study, C57BL/6 mice were treated topically on the depilated dorsal skin with Vitex rotundifolia extract dissolved in 70% EtOH. Moreover, treatment of Vitex rotundifolia extract onto hair cells induced more 20% growth of proliferation compared only control treated group. Also, the ratio of follicle number of anagen phase/total was increased. This result explains that Vitex rotundifolia extract has effect on prolong of anagen phase, so Vitex rotundifolia might be a potential new therapeutic source for the hair growth promotion.
