This study evaluated VanPatten’s Input Processing Theory, which underpins what is known as Processing Instruction. This review revealed that Processing Instruction is more effective than traditional and meaningful output-based instruction, and this effect results mainly from structured input activity. Input Processing Theory has a high level of empirical verifiability and internal explanatory validity. However, it has relatively weak external validity and its scope is limited to input processing. It is expected to continue playing a monumental role as a theoretical framework for empirical research. Implications are discussed in relation to EFL teaching in Korea and the advancement of instructed second language acquisition theory.

For the past two and a half decades the roles of output in second language acquisition (SLA) have been discussed in many ways in the framework of the output hypothesis proposed by Swain (1985). However, some roles of output proposed in the early version of output hypothesis have not been investigated enough though they may play important roles in SLA. In addition, recent literature in SLA suggests that there may be some roles of output that have not been investigated so far. Therefore, this paper overviews the roles of output proposed in the early and the recent versions of output hypothesis and discusses the roles that need to be revisited and those that need to be investigated in the current SLA.

he present study is a part of a larger study and investigated whether power law of practice, which has been discussed in relation to skill acquisition, applies to the acquisition of automaticity in second language development in terms of reaction time, error rate, and length of time of speech. Fourteen native speakers of English participated in fourteen computerized learning, practice, and test sessions through DMDX, MS Word, Audacity, and Cool Edit over a 5-week period to learn three Korean morphosyntactic rules. The analysis of their performance indicated that overall the acquisition of automaticity in second language development followed a power law pattern. The findings are discussed in relation to their pedagogical implications for second language learners, who often give up the acquisition of automaticity easily.

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the structure of cost-sharing for oriental medical services in the national health insurance. Out-of-pocket payment in ambulatory oriental medical care is a co-payment of KRW3,000 up to total expenses of KRW15,000, and co-insurance rate of 30% thereafetr. The empirical analysis based on medial claims data shows that the frequency of medical claims for outpatient care are mostly concentrated just below a total expenses of KRW15,000, and it decreases beyond a total expense of KRW15,000, while it rebounds between KRW17,000${\sim}$20,000. This means the current co-payment(KRW3,000) in oriental medical services should be applied up to a total payment of KRW17,000${\sim}$20,000, or the level of co-payment should be adjusted upward to KRW45,000 in order to be consistent in cost-sharing, between co-payment and co-insurance.
Involvement of Hepatic Innate Immunity in Alcoholic Liver Disease

Excessive alcohol consumption is one of the critical causative factors leading to alcoholic liver disease (ALD). ALD is characterized by a wide spectrum of liver damage, ranging from simple uncomplicated liver steatosis (fatty liver) to steatohepatitis and liver fibrosis/cirrhosis. It has been believed that the obvious underlying cause for ALD is due to hepatocyte death induced by alcohol itself. However, recent sparkling studies have shown that diverse immune responses contribute to ALD because liver is enriched with numerous immune cells. Especially, a line of evidence has suggested that innate immune cells such as Kupffer cells and natural killer (NK)/ NKT cells are significantly involved in the pathogenesis of ALD via production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and other mediators. Indeed, more interestingly, hepatic stellate cells (HSCs), known as a major cell inducing liver steatosis and fibrosis, can be killed by liver NK cells, which could be suppressed by chronic alcohol consumption. In this review, with the view of liver as predominant innate immune organ, we describe the pathogenesis of ALD in which what roles of innate immune cells are and how they are interacting with HSCs.

The development of web2.0 technology has contributed to language instructional design in terms of increasing interaction between learners and their motivation. Also the combination of web2.0 technology and storytelling activities would diversify instructional activities. A blended teaching method through the appropriate combination of both offline and online activities would enhance the effect of learning greatly. The blended teaching method is an instructional method that maximizes the effect of online instruction whose advantageis learner-centered repetitive and/or preview study free of the limitation of time and space and that of offline instruction whose advantage is direct interaction between the teacher and learners or between different learners. In designing such a blended English teaching method, integrating several web2.0 technologies such as Phrasr, Dumpr, Jaycut, Prezi, Dipity into offline teaching activities would surely increase learners 'interaction and motivation in learning.
