Preliminary time-series observations for short-period variability survey (SPVS) were carried out using a 155mm refractor and a $2k{\times}3k$ CCD camera at Bohyunsan Optical Astronomy Observatory. We found 21 new variable stars in the $90'{\times}60'$ test field region : 9 eclipsing binary stars, $5{\delta}$ Scuti type stars, a ${\gamma}$ Doradus type star, and 6 long period variables. The observing field center is R.A. $05^h\;00^m\;00^s$, DEC. $50^{\circ}\;00'\;00"$ (J2000.0). The period and amplitude ranges for the short-period variables, i.e., ${\delta}$ Scuti stars, were 0.052day - 0.107day and 0.012mag - 0.064mag, respectively.

Time-series observations were carried out using a 155mm refractor and a $2k{\times}3k$ CCD camera at Bohyunsan Optical Astronomy Observatory. We found 38 new variable stars in the $2.3^{\circ}{\times}2.4^{\circ}$ region around the Cepheid variable TU Cas: 22 eclipsing binary stars, 11 ${\delta}$ Scuti type stars and an RR Lyrae star, and 4 unclassified variables.

Objectives: The conventional methods such as smear or culture of Mycobacteria have been proved either low sensitivity and specificity or time-consuming. Polymerase chain reaction(PCR) is a rapid and sensitive alternative method to diagnose mycobacterial infection. We investigated the positive rate of sputum PCR for Mycobacterium tuberculosis by consecutive tests for its application in clinical practice. Methods: Sputum AFB smear, culture and serial AFR PCR test were performed in all patients who were suspected of pulmonary tuberculosis, Among them, 128 patients with positive sputum PCR test were enrolled from January 1996 through March 1997. The diagnostic criteria of pulmonary tuberculosis were sputum AFB smear positive, culture positive or pathologically proven granuloma. TB-CR TM kit (Bioneer, seoul, Korea), which amplifies insertion sequence(IS6110) of Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex, was used for sputum AFB PCR. Results: Of 128 patients, active pulmonary tuberculosis were 107 (male:74, female:33, mean age:48.9 year). Cumulative positive rate of sputum AFR PCR test was 89% at 1st test, 95% at 2nd test, 98% at 3rd test and 100% at 4th test. The sensitivity of sputum PCR, smear and culture was 98.0%(105/107), 85.0%(91/107) and 82.8%(77/107), respectively. The positive predictive value of sputum PCR was 83.6%(107/128). There were 21 patients who showed positive PCR test did not meet the diagnostic criteria of active tuberculosis. They had old tuberculosis with destroyed lung, history of anti-tuberculous medication(9/21), extrapulmonary tuberculosis (6/21) and other diseases(6/21). Conclusion: Sputum PCR test is a sensitive diagnostic tool in early diagnosis of pulmonary tuberculosis when it has been performed serially, we recommend at least 2 consecutive PCR test to achieve the sensitivity of 95%.

목적 : 내시경 소독제 중 하나로 최근 오존수가 제시되고 있으나 국내외를 통틀어 그 연구 자료가 매우 부족하다. 이에 저자들은 오존수를 이용한 내시경 자동 세척기의 소독 효과를 알아보기로 하였다. 재료 및 방법 : 최근 구입한 내시경 한 개만을 사용하여 진단적 상부위장관 내시경을 시행 받은 환자들 중 30명을 내시경 검사 시행 후 내시경 소독법에 따라 무작위적으로 각 10명씩 3군으로 나누었다(A군, 오존수 5분 소독; B군, 오존수 10분 소독; C군, 전해산성수 3분 30초 소독). 결과 : 배양 양성률에 따라 무배양군(0 CFU/mL)과 배양군(>0 CFU/mL)으로, 배양 집락수에 따라 저배양군(<1CFU/mL)과 고배양군(≤l CFU/mL)으로 분류하였다. 내시경 선단부에서 얻은 검체의 배양 양성률은 3군 모두 0%였다. 생검겸자관 공에서 얻은 검체의 배양 양성률은 A, B, C군이 각각 70% (7/10), 70% (7/10), 90% (9/10) 이었다, 배양 집락수에 따라서는 A군에서는 고배양군에 속한 경우가 없었으나, B군에서는 30% (3/10), C군에서는70% (7/10)가 고배양군에 속했으며, A군과 C군 사이에서만 고배양률에서 유의한 차이가 나타났다(P<0.05). 결론 : 오존수를 이용한 내시경 자동 세척기는 기존의 공인된 소독제인 전해산성수와 유사한 정도의 소독력을 보여주어 내시경 소독 방법 중의 하나로 고려할 수 있다고 생각된다. Background : The aim of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of automated ozonated water endoscopic reprocessing system (AORS). Materials and Methods : Thirty cases were collected and randomly assigned to 3 groups according to the disinfection methods (Group A, AORS for 5 minutes; Group B, AORS for 10 minutes; Group C, automated disinfection with superoxidized water for 3 minutes 30 seconds). After disinfection was finished, samples were collected from the tip of scopes (Site 1, S1) and rinsing water through biopsy channel (Site 2, S2). Samples were inoculated in blood agar plate for 48 hrs, and then colony count was evaluated. Results : Culture positive rate of S1 was 0% in all three groups. Culture positive rates of S2 were 70% (7/10), 70% (7/10) and 90% (9/10) in group A, group B and group C, respectively. High culture rate group (≥1 CFU/ml rinsing water) was 0% (0/10), 30% (3/10) and 70% (7/10) in group A, group B and group C, respectively. Disinfection efficacy between group A and C showed a significant difference in high culture rate (P<0.05). Conclusions : AORS for 5min was at least equally effective in endoscopic reprocessing compared with the conventional superoxidized water system.
공침 선농축법에 의한 강수속의 Pb와 Cd 의 정량분석

Trace amount of heavy metals in rain waters were determined after preconcentration by coprecipitation technique. Indium was selected as a coprecipitation reagent and concentrated heavy metals were analyzed by a conventional AA spectrometer.Two are as, Cheong-Won and Tae-Ahn, were selected and compared only when it was precipitation at the same time for more meaningful comparison. The concentrations of Pb and Ch in Cheong-Won (rural) area were 14.3±8.0 ppb and 2.77± 5.37 ppb, respectively. These values are higher than those of Tae-Ahn, which indicates that even a rural area is polluted by a nearby industrial area (Cheong-Ju). The isotope ratios of lead in rainwaters were very similar to those of aerosol particles
