This study were conducted to investigate the microbial contamination level in 5 tomato farms in Western Gyeongnam. A total of 130 samples was examined for sanitary indicator bacteria, such as aerobic plate count (APC), coliforms, and Escherchia coli, and pathogenic bacteria such as E. coli O157:H7, Salmonella spp., Staphylococcus aureus, and Listeria monocytogenes. APC and coliform count ranged $0\~6.62\;and\;0\~4.52 log_{10}\;CFU/(ml,\;g,\;100\;cm^2,\;hand)$, respectively, and $32.5\%$ were contaminated with E. coli. Especially, most of the samples from employees are high as above $4.0\;log_{10}\;CFU/(ml,\;g,\;100\;cm^2,\;hand)$ in APC. S. aureus, detected at $10.7\%$, was found in employees' hands, irrigation water, and hydroponic solution. whereas E. coli $O157:H7$, Salmonella spp, and L. monocytogenes were not detected. These results will provide fundamental microbiological information for introduction of good agricultural practice (GAP)system in tomato farms.

The new concept of agricultural water supply potential, which is mean annual turnover rate times unit storage capacity, was introduced for agricultural reservoirs. We investigated characteristics of mean annual turnover rate and unit storage capacity for agricultural reservoirs with storage capacity of over $1million\;m^3$. The curve of agricultural water supply potential represents change in mean annul turnover rate according to change in unit storage capacity. The mean annual turnover rate and unit storage capacity in the reservoirs with high minimum storage ratio are significantly higher than those in the reservoirs with low minimum storage ratio. Most of unstable water supply reservoirs showed low mean annual turnover rate or low unit storage capacity, indicating that mean annual turnover rate may be an index of stability degree for agricultural water use. The reservoirs with mean annual turnover rate of over 2 and unit storage capacity of over 0.8 m may be estimated as the stable water supply zone for 10 frequency dry year. The reservoirs with high agricultural water supply potential can belong to the wide range of stable water supply zone. The results suggest that relation between mean annual turnover rate and unit storage capacity may be used in evaluating stability degree for agricultural water supply in the reservoirs.

Purpose: The aim of this study is to compare the antiemetic efficacy and tolerability of intravenous dolasetron mesylate and ondansetron in the prevention of acute and delayed emesis. Material and Methods: From April 2002 through October 2002, a total of 112 patients receiving cisplatin- based combination chemotherapy were randomized to receive a single i.v. dose of dolasetron 100 mg or ondansetron 8 mg, 30 minutes before the initiation of chemotherapy. In the ondansetron group, two additional doses of ondansetron 8 mg were given at intervals of 2 to 4 hours. To prevent delayed emesis, dolasetron 200 mg p.o. daily or ondansetron 8 mg p.o. bid was administered from the 2nd days to a maximum of 5 days. The primary end point was the proportion of patients that experienced no emetic episodes and required no rescue medication (complete response, CR) during the 24 hours (acute period) and during Day 2 to Day 5 2 days (delayed period), after chemotherapy. The secondary end points included the incidence and severity of emesis. Results: 105 patients were evaluable for efficacy. CR rates during the acute period were 36.0% for a single dose of dolasetron 100 mg, and 43.6% for three doses of ondansetron 8 mg. CR rates during the delayed period were 8.0% and 10.9%, respectively. There was no significant difference in the efficacy between the two groups. Adverse effects were mostly mild to moderate and not related to study medication. Conclusions: A single i.v. dose of dolasetron 100 mg is as effective as three i.v. doses of ondansetron 8 mg in preventing acute and delayed emesis after cisplatin- based chemotherapy, with a comparable safety profile.(Cancer Res Treat. 2004;36:372-376)

A protease inhibitor from fish eggs was fractionated using chromatographic methods. The fractionation efficiency was evaluated in terms of specific inhibitory activity (SIA, U/mg), purity (fold), total inhibitory activity (TIA, U), and recovery (%). The protease inhibitor (PI) from egg extracts of skipjack tuna (ST Katsuwonus pelamis), yellowfin tuna (YT Thunnus albacares) and Alaska pollock (AP Theragra chalcogramma) was fractionated using Sephadex G-50 gel filtration and DEAE-Sepharose CL-6B anion exchange chromatography based on protein size exclusion and net charge, respectively. Fractions exhibiting strong inhibitory activity were contained in the 30-50 kDa fraction on gel filtration and in the range of 0.4-0.7 M NaCl gradient fraction on anion exchange chromatography. The respective TIA and percent recovery of the fraction obtained with gel filtration toward trypsin and Nα-benzoyl-L-arginine-pnitroanilide (BAPNA) were 2,758.7 U and 29.6% for ST, 1,005.5 U and 25.6% for YT, and 1,267.5 U and 26.0% for AP. Gel filtration chromatography was more effective at fractionating PI than using ion exchange chromatography. These results suggest that fish eggs act as serine protease inhibitors and might be useful for protease inhibition in foodstuffs.

Exopeptidase active fractions from the hepatopancreas of the Argentina shortfin squid Illex argentinus, were obtained with acetone (AC 30-40%), ammonium sulfate (AS 60-70% saturation), anion exchange chromatography (AE-II, 0.2 M NaCl) and gel filtration chromatography (GF-I, 30-50 kDa) fractionation methods. A bitter peptide solution that has a bitterness equivalent to that of 2% glycylphenylalanine and prepared by tryptic hydrolysis of milk casein, was treated with the exopeptidase active fractions. The GF -I fraction was the best based on aminopeptidase activity (35.3 U/mg), percentage of recovery (30.7%) and a sensory evaluation (1.7). The amount of released amino acids increased as incubation time increased, and the bitterness of the enzyme reaction mixtures decreased. Incubation with the GF-I fraction for 24 h resulted in the hydrolysis of several peptides as revealed by the reverse-phase high performance liguid chromatography profile, with three peaks (3, 5 and 6) decreasing in area (%) and three peaks (1, 2 and 4) increasing in area (%). Therefore, the GF-I fraction appeared to be ideally suited to reduce bitterness in protein hydrolysates by catalyzing the hydrolysis of bitter peptides.

This study was conducted to develop and characterize sea squirt Halocynthia roretzi sikhae,According to the results for PH,total acidiy, lactic acid bacteria, amino nitrogen and sensory evaluation of sea squirt sikhae during fermentation for 6 days at 15°c, the optimum fermentation periods were 4 days for soumess-disliking customers and 5 days for sour-disliking customers. No differences in the proximate compositions of sea squirt sikhaes fermented for 4 days(4D)and for 5 days(5D)were found. There was a differende in the eproximate compsitions of commercial seasoned sea squirts, 4D and 5D, sea squirt sikhaes. The results of salinity, total acidity,amino nitrogen and sensory evaluation of two kinds of sikhae suggest that the taste was stronger for 5D than for 4D, both of which were superior to commercial seasoned sea squirs.There was, however, no difference in color of 4D, 5D and commercial seasoned sea squirts. The results of E. coli analvses suggest that sea squirt sikhae is a safe food in terms of sanitation.

The Streamflow Synthesis and Reservoir Regulation model(SSARR) is an computerized watershed model. Storm Water Management Model(SWMM) is used for analysis related to stormwater runoff in urban areas. The purpose of this study is to develop an integrated SSARR-SWMM model to simulate water level and discharge in the estuary lakes network, and examine the applicability of the model. The model was applied to estuary lakes network in Youngsan River watershed, which was recently redeveloped with increased drainage gates and widened connecting canals. The highest water levels in Youngsan Lake and Youngam Lake during flood season after redevelopment were much lower than those before redevelopment. The highest water levels in Youngsan Lake and Geumho Lake during flood season for lake-connected operation were much lower than those for individual operation. Those mean that floods in the lakes are greatly reduced by redevelopment or lake-connected operation. The water levels in Youngsan Lake and Youngam Lake for highly controlled water levels were much higher than those for current controlled water levels. The result shows that additional water use volume can be secured by heightening controlled water level. The model will be used for establishing integrated water management system of Youngsan River watershed.

To identify and examine the distribution of proteolytic inhibitory activity in crude extracts from fish eggs, and to determine the applicability of these protease inhibitors as anti-degradation agents in surimi-based products and fish meat, we compared the inhibitory activities of various extracts from fish eggs to those of commercial proteases, such as trypsin and papain. We used the optimal conditions for the screening of trypsin activity: 30 ug/uL of 0.1 % trypsin and 0.6 mM Na-benzoyl-L-arginine-p-nitroanilide (BAPNA) with a pH of 8.0 at 40℃ for 60 min. The activities of papain and four commercial proteases were investigated after mixing with 100 ug/uL enzymes and 0.3% casein with a pH of 8.0 at 40℃ for 60 min. We performed a screening assay to detect the inhibitory activity (%) of crude extracts from eight species of fish eggs against the target proteases trypsin and papain. The assay revealed a wide distribution of trypsin and papain inhibitors in fish eggs. The specific inhibitory activities (11.6-28.6 U/mg) of crude extracts from fish eggs against trypsin and BAPNA substrate were higher than that (0.64 U/mg) of egg whites, used as a commercial inhibitor. The inhibitory activities of crude extracts from fish eggs against trypsin, and of egg whites against casein substrate (1.94-4.51 U/mg), were higher than those of papain (0.24-1.57 U/mg) and commercial protease (0.04-0.32 U/mg). The extracts from fish eggs were rich in protease inhibitors that exhibited strong inhibitory activity against trypsin, a serine protease, and papain, a cysteine protease.
