Aged Black Garlic Exerts Anti-Inflammatory Effects by Decreasing NO and Proinflammatory Cytokine Production with Less Cytoxicity in LPS-Stimulated RAW 264.7 Macrophages and LPS-Induced Septicemia Mice

In this study, the anti-inflammatory and antisepticemic activities of a water extract of aged black garlic (AGE), which is not pungent, were compared with those of raw garlic extract (RGE). The methyl thiazolyl tetrazolium (MTT) assay showed that AGE was not toxic up to 1000 lg/mL and was at least four times less cytotoxic than RGE. AGE significantly suppressed the production of nitric oxide (NO), tumor-necrosis factor-a (TNF-a), and prostaglandin (PG)-E2 in a dosedependent manner in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated RAW 264.7 macrophages. Furthermore, the inhibitory effect of AGE on LPS-induced inflammation was confirmed by downregulation of inducible NO synthase and TNF-a mRNA expression, as well as cyclooxygenase-2 protein expression. The anti-inflammatory activities of AGE were similar to those of RGE at nontoxic concentrations up to 250 lg/mL. Signal transduction pathway studies further indicated that both garlic extracts inhibited activation of mitogen-activated protein kinase and nuclear factor-jB induced by LPS stimulation. Treatment with both AGE and RGE in an in vivo experiment of LPS-induced endotoxemia significantly reduced the level of TNF-a and interleukin-6 in serum and completely protected against LPS-induced lethal shock in C57BL/6 mice. The results suggest that AGE is a more promising nutraceutical or medicinal agent to prevent or cure inflammation-related diseases for safety aspects compared with RGE.

Objective: This study is to explore the various aspects of the fatigue perceived by patients with Bell's palsy Method: 33 patients who were diagnosed as Bell's palsy were sequentially interviewed and examined Results: The results were as follows 1. The mean average fatigue score of subjects was $1.79{\pm}0.41$ : the physical fatigue revealed the highest value with a mean of $1.84{\pm}0.50$, followed by neurosensory fatigue with a mean of $1.77{\pm}0.42$, psychological fatigue with a mean score of $1.76{\pm}0.54$. 2. With the respect to the general characteristics of subjects, there were statistically significant differences in the patients' fatigue perception by age and the amount of sleeping time. Conclusions: We needed the further study about the relation between fatigue and Bell's palsy

Complete genome sequence analysis of Photobacterium atrarenae GJH2-4 reveals its genetic capability for benzene degradation isolated from marine environment

The genus Photobacterium belongs to family Vibrionaceae, order Vibrionales, and phylum Pseudomonadota. It is known as a Gram-stain-negative and facultative aerobe that is motile. Members of the genus Photobacterium including pathogens have various life cycles. In this study, we isolated a strain GJH2-4 belonging to the genus Photobacterium from a marine sediment of Jeju Island, South Korea. Its complete genome sequence was found to have three circularized chromosomes. After de novo assembling, its total size and G + C content were about 5.41 Mb and 53.0%, respectively. The three chromosomes encoded 4,794 protein-coding sequences, 34 ribosomal RNAs, and 153 transfer RNA genes. Unexpectedly, the genome of strain GJH2-4 contained genes for benzene degradation, complete denitrification, dissimilatory nitrate reduction, assimilatory sulfate reduction, flagellar assembly, and vitamins biosynthesis based on its genetic functional characteristics. Furthermore, its genome encoded cytochrome cbb3 oxidases known to have a high affinity for oxygen. Finally, we discovered that strain GJH2-4 could contribute to nutrient cycling in their habitats. Our findings might facilitate a better understanding of various capabilities of species in genus Photobacterium.

즉석섭취 식육가공품의 미생물학적 안전성 평가

This study investigated the microbiological safety in ready-to-eat meat products. A total of 150 meat products were purchased from big markets, traditional markets, and convenience stores. Total aerobic bacteria and coliform bacteria were tested according to the Korea food code and food-borne bacteria were detected using multiplex pathogenic detection PCR kit. The mean values of total aerobic bacteria in processed and ready-to-eat meat products were 3.9±2.1 log CFU/g and 4.6±2.4 log CFU/g. The mean values of coliform bacteria in processed and ready-to-eat meat products were 2.0±1.0 log CFU/g and 3.8±2.2 log CFU/g. The microbiological contamination of ready-to-eat meat products was significantly higher than that of processed meat products. The total aerobic bacteria and coliform bacteria contamination levels of ready-to-eat meat products stored in semi-closed and open food containers were significantly higher than those of closed food containers. The coliform bacteria counts in HACCP certified and non-certified meat products were 2.0±0.9 log CFU/g and 3.5±2.2 log CFU/g. The coliform bacteria contamination level of non-certified HACCP meat products was significantly higher than that of HACCP certificated meat products. Food-born bacteria tested in this study were not detected in all meat products, but Bacillus cereus was detected in eight ready-to-eat meat products. Overall, these results showed that ready-to-eat meat products were stored in closed food containers for the improvement of microbiological safety. It is necessary for a HACCP system to be introduced to ready-to-eat meat products. 본 연구에서는 즉석섭취 식육제품의 미생물학적 안전성을 평가하고자 하였다. 본 실험에 사용된 재료는 대형마트, 재래시장, 편의점 등에서 유통 중인 식육가공품 150건을 대상으로 하였다. 일반세균 및 대장균군은 식품공전에 따라 실험하였으며 식중독세균은 Multiplex pathogenic detection PCR kit을 이용하여 실험하였다. 식육가공품의 일반세균수 오염도는 식육가공 완제품이 3.9±2.1 log CFU/g, 즉석섭취 식육제품이 4.6±2.4 log CFU/g으로 나타났고, 대장균군 오염도는 식육가공 완제품이 2.0±1.0 log CFU/g, 즉석섭취 식육제품이 3.8±2.2 log CFU/g으로 식육가공 완제품보다 즉석섭취 식육제품의 오염도가 유의적으로 높게 나타났다. 보관용기에 따른 즉석섭취 식육제품의 일반세균 오염도는 반밀폐 식품용기를 사용하는 대형마트가 4.8±2.4 log CFU/ g, 개방 식품용기를 사용하는 재래시장이 5.3±2.6 log CFU/ g, 밀폐 식품용기를 사용하는 편의점이 3.3±1.6 log CFU/g으로 나타났고, 대장균군 오염도는 반밀폐 식품용기를 사용하는 대형마트가 3.4±2.3 log CFU/g, 개방 식품용기를 사용하는 재래시장이 4.4±2.1 log CFU/g, 밀폐 식품용기를 사용하는 편의점이 불검출로 반밀폐 또는 개방 식품용기를 사용하는 대형마트와 재래시장의 오염도가 밀폐 식품용기를 사용하는 편의점보다 유의적으로 높게 나타났다. HACCP 인증 식육가공 완제품의 대장균군 오염도는 2.0±1.0 log CFU/g, HACCP 인증되지 않은 제품은 3.5±2.2 log CFU/g의 오염도를 나타내어 HACCP 인증되지 않은 제품에서 대장균군 오염도가 높게 나타났다. 식중독세균을 검사한 결과 즉석섭취 식육제품 8건(5.3%)에서 B. cereus가 검출되었다. 이러한 결과를 종합해볼 때 반밀폐 또는 개방 식품용기를 사용하는 대형마트와 재래시장에서 즉석섭취 식육제품을 판매할 경우 밀폐 식품용기를 사용해야 할 것으로 판단된다. 또한 대형마트 등의 식육제품 즉석제조 시설에 대한 HACCP system 도입이 필요한 것으로 판단된다.

메타분석을 이용한 호르몬 수용체 양성/인체 상피세포 성장 인자 수용체 음성 진행성 유방암 에서 사이클린 의존성 인산화효소 4/6 억제제와 방향화효소 억제제 병용요법과 방향화효소 억제제 단독요법의 임상적 유효성 및 안전성 비교 연구

Objective: The aim of the study was to perform a meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials to compare the clinical efficacy and safety between combination of cyclin-dependent kinase (CDK) 4/6 inhibitors with aromatase inhibitors (AIs) and AIs alone in patients with hormone receptor+/human epidermal growth factor receptor type2-(HR+/HER2-) advanced breast cancer. Methods: Published clinical studies were identified through electronic database searches until February 2019. Literature qualities were assessed by the Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network Checklist. Key endpoints of efficacy were progression-free survival (PFS), objective response rate (ORR), and clinical benefit (CB). Endpoints of safety were adverse events (AEs) (neutropenia, leukopenia, any grade 3/ 4 AEs, and serious AEs) and on-treatment death. Meta-analysis was performed using the RevMan 5.3 software. Results: The selected five studies were evaluated as “good” in quality assessment. Compared to AIs alone, the combination therapy significantly improved PFS (pooled hazard ratio=0.55; 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.49-0.62), ORR (odds ratio=1.78; 95% CI=1.49-2.13), and CB (odds ratio=1.86; 95% CI=1.51-2.28). The prevalence of AEs was significantly higher in the combination group than in the AIs alone group. On-treatment death was greater in the combination group than in the AIs alone group, although insignificant. Conclusion: The combination therapy of CDK4/6 inhibitors with AIs was more effective for the treatment of HR+/HER2- advanced breast cancer, but less safe than AIs alone. The combination therapy should be effectively managed through patient monitoring, and further studies are needed to reduce AEs in the combination therapy of CDK4/6 inhibitors with AIs.

중뇌 경색으로 인한 안검하수 치험 1례

Objective: The purpose of this case study is to show a case of severe neurogenic ptosis due to midbrain infarction improved by acupuncture and Herb-med. Method: This case study has been carried out for a case of ptosis due to midbrain infarction which had been hospitalized at the Bundang CHA Oriental Medical Hospital. We evaluate through Levator function test and measurement of MRD and the distance between upper and lower eyelid. Results: Levator function increase 3.5mm and distance between upper and lower eyelid increase 4mm more than before. The degree of ptosis turned 'fair' state from 'poor' state. Conclusions: We suggest to treat ptosis due to midbrain infarction with acupuncture and Herb-med meaning conservative therapy and would like to research oriental medical treatment plan for the further treatment.

국산목재 이용 활성화를 위한 목공방의 목재사용 현황 분석

Domestic wood use and industrial status were investigated through a sample survey targeting carpentry studios that produce final products using domestic wood. About 50 companies responded to the survey, most of which had less than 3 employees and 100 million won annual sales. At the request of users, educational contents such as furniture production (74%) and wooden props production (50%) are operated. An average of 525 visitors use the studios per year, and it is promoted through online media. More than 78% of carpentry studios consumed more than 3 cubic meters of wood and mainly used dried and processed wood products. Pine (46%), ash (31%) and walnut (29%) are main species. Among them, domestic wood is used as an auxiliary material because it is difficult to purchase. To expand the use of domestic wood, quality assurance (30%), easy ordering (24%), and low price (24%) were needed. Based on the results, in order to increase the utilization rate of domestic wood in carpentry studios, it is necessary to establish a system that can check the history and distribution of domestic wood and plan for continuous supply of wood.
