건강인에서 알코올의 종류와 양에 따른 내피세포 기능의 변화

Background: It is not clear how much amount is favourable to coronary heart disease, although cardioprotective effects of red wine were reported. Furthermore, there is no report showing the effects of soju, the popular liqour in Korea on endothelial function. We performed this study to know early effects of alcohol on endothelial function in healthy subjects according to the kinds and the amounts of alcohol. Methods: Endothelial function was measured by using high-resolution ultrasound in 20 healthy subjects. Ten subjects were crossover studied according to the types of alcohol (120 cc of red wine and 45 cc of soju) and the other ten subjects were studied using the half dosage of the same alcohol. Results: The endothelial function can be impaired during 1 to 2 hours after alcohol ingestion (Soju 45 cc and red wine 120 cc, p<0.05), then recovered to baseline level. However, these impaired endothelial functions were associated with an increased brachial artery diameter. The endothelial function was recovered to baseline level more earlier in case of red wine than that of soju 2 hours vs 3 hours. Red wine 60cc and Soju 22.5 cc can improve the endothelial function in healthy subjects 2 and 3 hours after ingestion, respectively. These effects were not related with vasodilatory effects of alcohol. Conclusion: This study suggests that small amounts of alcohol can improve the endothelial function in healthy subjects independently with the vasodilatory effects of alcohol. The amounts of alcohol showing beneficial effects on endothelial function were lower than our expectation (a half cup). (Korean J Med 69:284-292, 2005)

In the various assessments of Robert Lowell``s poetry, I would suggest that Robert Lowell``s religious conflict be an integral and consistent part of his works. As a young man, Lowell converted himself to Catholicism. But he retained an earlier interest in the religious philosophy and works of learned Puritans throughout his life as a poet and a man. In Lowell the two became reconciled. This religious motivation gave his style a determined boldness, supported by complexly disciplined language, symbol, and idea. In his poem Life Studies Lowell, expecting death, writes his own requiem while summing up his life``s achievement. These strong as well as peculiar characteristics of religion in Lowell``s poetry provide an overall and comprehensive vantage point from which readers of his poems better understand and appreciate his most complex psychology and his most intricate works of words. Therefore, Life Studies holds the key to a new understanding of Lowell and his poetry.
Nitrate 구강 투여가 안정시 대사량과 운동 후 초과산소섭취량에 미치는 영향

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of oral nitrate supplementation on resting metabolic rate (RMR) and excess post-exercise oxygen consumption (EPOC). METHODS: Ten university male subjects participated in this study. Resting metabolic RMR and submaximal exercise test (70 %V·O2max) on a cycle ergometer were performed for 30 minutes before and after oral nitrate supplementation. Also, EPOC was measured following submaximal exercise test (70 %V·O2max) before and after oral nitrate supplementation. RESULTS: There was a little decreased in oxygen consumption during submaximal exercise after oral nitrate supplementation, but there was no significant different between before and after experimental conditions. Interestingly, RMR became lower after oral nitrate supplementation compared with before nitrate supplementation. On the other hand EPOC was found to be higher following the submaximal exercise after oral nitrate supplementation, but there was no significant difference. CONCLUSIONS: This study found that oral nitrate supplementation decreased RMR By better understanding metabolic and energy expenditure effects of oral nitrate supplementation, various interventions, such as, exercise intensity, mode, diet, should be considered.
내재적 동기와 성차가 비디오 게임 장르 이용에 미치는 영향

본 연구의 목적은 내재적 동기 이론과 플로우 이론의 통합을 통해 비디오 게임 이용자들이 가진 동기와 행위 간의 관계를 설명하는 이론적 모델을 제시함에 있다. 이를 위해 본 연구는 기술과 도전의 최적균형, 플로우를 통한 즐거움, 내재적 동기, 그리고 비디오 게임 장르 이용행위라는 변수들을 제시하고 이들 간의 인과적 관계성들을 조사하였다. 경로분석을 통해 변수들 간의 관계성을 검증한 결과, 내재적 동기는 최적균형과 즐거움의 경험에 의해 직접적, 간접적 영향을 받는 것으로 나타났으며, 이 내재적 동기는 신체게임과 공상게임 장르의 이용행위를 유의미하게 예측하는 것으로 나타났다. 하지만 전통게임 장르의 경우 내재적 동기와 유의미한 관계성을 나타내지 못했다. 또한 본 연구는 남성과 여성 비디오 게임 이용자들 간에 내재적 동기의 강도는 다르나, 내재적 동기가 게임 장르 이용행위를 유도하는 근본적인 관계들은 남녀 간에 상이하지 않음을 발견하였다. By integrating of intrinsic motivation theory and flow theory, this study sought to investigate the causal linkage among optimal balance of video game player’s perceived skill and challenge, flow experience, intrinsic motivation and video game genre usage. A path analysis showed that the different types of video game usage were directly influenced by players’ intrinsic motivations, which were also reinforced by players’ flow experiences of enjoyment. However, the path model with a multiple group approach provided no strong evidence for gender differences in the relationships between the variables of interest.

꽃게(Portunus trituberculatus) 체액을 $Zn^{2+}$ -chelate affinity column을 이용하여 분리 정제하였다. 그 결과 척추동물의 경우와는 달리 affinity gel의 재생과정($Zn^{2+}$ 이온제거)인 50mM EDTA(ethylene diaminetetraacetic acid) 분획에서 ${\alpha}-macroglobulin({\alpha}-M)$이 분리되였다. 꽃게의 ${\alpha}-macroglobulin$은 trypsin, chymotrypsin, thermolysin의 활성을 억제하였으나, 사람의 ${\alpha}_{2}-macroglobulin$과는 달리 subtilisin과 cathepsin C 등의 활성은 억제하지 못하였다. 또한 고등동물의 경우와 달리 trypsin 보다는 thermolysin과의 친화력이 높았다. 꽃게 ${\alpha}-M$은 monomer의 분자량이 180 kDa인 dimer의 행태로 존재하며 상기 monomer는 열과 detergent(SDS)에 의해서 분자량 95 kDa 및 85 kDa의 polypeptide로 분리되었다. A high molecular weight proteinase inhibitor has been purified from the body fluid of sea crab (Portunus trituberculatus) using biospecific $Zn^{2+}$ chelate affinity chromatography. The proteinase inhibitor inhibits the proteolytic activity of a variety of endopeptidase such as trypsin, chymotrypsin and thermolysin. Like other vertebrate ${\alpha}-M$, the sea crab ${\alpha}-macroglobulin$ $({\alpha}-M)$ was composed of subunits of molecular weight 180 kDa as judged by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis under reducing conditions. The apparent native molecular weight of the sea crab ${\alpha}-M$ determined by gel filtration was 360 kDa. Thermal fragmentation studies revealed that the monomer (180 kDa) was broken down into 95 kDa and 85 kDa fragments, respectively. On the basis of above results, it is concluded that the sea crab ${\alpha}-M$ is a dimer consisting of two weakly bound monomer,and the autolytic cleavage occurs easily by SDS and heat treatment.
