        Cone beam형 전산화단층영상을 이용한 하악과두 위치의 연구

        Purpose : To evaluate position of the mandibular condyle within articular fossa in an asymptomatic population radiographically by a cone beam computed tomography. Materials and Methods : Cone beam computed tomography of 60 temporomandibular joints was performed on 15 males and 15 females with no history of any temporomandibular disorders, or any other orthodontic or prosthodontic treatments. Position of mandibular condyle within articular fossa at centric occlusion was evaluated. A statistical evaluation was done using a SPSS. Results : In the sagittal views, mandibular condyle within articular fossa was posteriorly located at medial and central sections. In the coronal views, mandibular condyle within articular fossa was laterally located at central section. Mandibular condyles in the right and left sides were showed asymmetric positional relationship at medial, central, and lateral sections. Conclusion : Mandibular condyle within articular fossa in an asymptomatic population was observed nonconcentric position in the sagittal and coronal views.

        구치부 복합레진 수복을 위한 와동 이장용 재료의 방사선불투과성에 관한 연구

        Purpose : The aim of this study was to determine the relative radiopacities of cavity lining materials (Resin-modified Glass Ionomer cement, Composer and plowable resin) for posterior composite resin restoration. Material & Methods : Resin-modified glass ionomer cement (Fuji II LC, VitrebondTM), Compomers (Dyract□, Compoglass, F2,000, Dyract□ flow Compoglass Flow) find Flowable resins (Tetric□ flow, AelitefloTM RevolutionTM) were used. Five specimens of 5 mm in diameter and 2 mm thick were fabricated with each material. Human molars were horizontally sectioned 2 mm thick to include both enamel and dentin. The radiopacities of enamel, dentin, cavity lining materials, aluminum step wedge were obtainded from conventional radiograph and NIH image program. Results : All the tested lining materials showed levels of radiopacity the same as or greater than that of dentin. All compomer tested (Dyract□, Compoglass, F2,000, Dyract□ flow, Compoglass Flow) and VitrebondTM, Tetric□ flow were more radiopaque than enamel. The radiopacities of Fuji II LC and RevolutionTM were between enamel and dentin and resin-modified glass ionomer cement, Compomer and Tetric□ flow were greater than those of RevolutionTM, AelitefloTM or dentin. The level of radiopacity of the tested materials was variable; those with low radiopacity should be avoided in class II restorations, where a clear determination of recurrent caries by the examining clinician could be compromised. Conclusion : Clinician should be able to distinguish these cavity lining materials radiographically from recurrent decay, voids, gaps, or other defects that lead to clinical failure. Utilization of materials ranked more radiopaque than enamel would enable clinicians to distinguish the lining material from tooth structure. (Korean J Oral Maxillofac Radiol 2000; 30:243-248)

        악관절 융기 증강술을 통한 습관성 악관절 탈구환자의 치험례

        Recurrent mandibular dislocation is frequent morbidity of temporomandibular joint relatively. There are many etiologic causes in TMJ disorders but, difficult to find obvious one. Various treatment methods have been utilized for a mandibular dislocation. It is categorized into two groups broadly - nonsurgical or surgical methods. The basic rationale of the surgical method is to allow free movement of the condyle by reducing height of articular eminence or to limit anterior excessive movement of the condyle by increasing height of articular eminence or soft tissue anchoring procedure. In this case, 69 year-old woman was treated by augmentation of the articular eminence with mandibular symphysial bone graft leading to osteosynthesis without difficulty. As a result, favorable postoperative outcome was obtained functionally without any complication or recurrence.

        Case Reports : A Synonymous Genetic Alteration of LMX1Bin a Family with Nail-Patella Syndrome

        The gene responsible for nail-patella syndrome, LMX1B, has recently been identified on chromosome 9q. Here we present a patient with nail-patella syndrome and an autosomal dominant pattern of inheritance. A 17-year-old girl visited our clinic for the evaluation and treatment of proteinuria. She had dystrophic nails, palpable iliac horns, and hypoplastic patellae. Electron microscopy of a renal biopsy showed irregular thickening of the glomerular basement membrane. A family history over three generations revealed five affected family members. Genetic analysis found a change of TCG to TCC, resulting in a synonymous alteration at codon 219 in exon 4 of the LMX1B gene in two affected family members. The same alteration was not detected in an unaffected family member. This is the first report of familial nail-patella syndrome associated with an LMX1B in Korea mutation, However, we can not completely rule out the possibility that the G-to-C change may be a single nucleotide polymorphism as this genetic mutation cause no alteration in amino acid sequence of LMX1B.         Primary intraosseous squamous cell carcinoma mimicking periapical disease: a case report

        Primary intraosseous squamous cell carcinoma (PIOSCC) is a rare carcinoma, which arises within the jaws without connection to the oral mucosa and presumably develops from a remnant of odontogenic epithelium. We present a case of solid type PIOSCC in a 52-year-old male patient complaining of dull pain on his left lower molar. In this case, early stage PIOSCC mimicking a periapical lesion might lead to a one-year delay in treatment due to the misdiagnosis of osteomyelitis after extraction of the third molar. The clinical, radiological, and histologic features are described. In this case, there was initial radiographic evidence for PIOSCC mimicking a periapical lesion. Incautious radiographic interpretation and treatment procedures had delayed the correct diagnosis and resulted in extensive bony destruction during the patient's disease progression.

        생장억제제 Prohexadione-calcium의 처리에 따른 클로버의 생육억제 효과

        본 연구는 한국잔디로 조성된 잔디밭에서 예초 직후에 prohexadione-calcium을 엽면 처리하여 잔디와 경합하는 클로버의 생장을 억제하는 효과를 구명하기위하여 수행되었다. 클로버의 엽병장과 엽면적은 prohexadione-calcium의 처리로 7주에도 무처리에 비하여 현저하게 억제되었고, 클로버의 생엽중도 무처리에 비하여 현저하게 억제되는 것으로 나타났다. 엽색도는 무처리에 비하여 prohexadione-calcium 처리구가 높아졌고, 처리 농도가 높아질수록 엽색도도 높아지는 것으로 조사되었다. 잔디밭에서 클로버를 방임할 때보다 prohexadione-calcium의 처리는 클로버의 피복율을 현저히 억제할 수 있었다. This experiment was carried out to investigate the growth responses of white clover (Trifolium repens L.) as affected by prohexadione-calcium foliar application for the growth restraint in the lawn yard, field and golf course etc. The leaf length and leaf weight of white clover were significantly retarded compared to the untreated plot with foliar application of prohexadione-calcium after mowing within 1 day, and the effect was continued up to 50 days. The leaf area of clover with prohexadione-calcium treatment was to be narrowed as compared to untreated plot. The SPAD value of the leaf colour was increased in the treated plots and was to be continued for 40 days more. The coverage rate of clover was decreased with prohexadione-calcium foliar application after mowing in the lawn ground.

      • Heart Failure Statistics in Korea, 2020: A Report from the Korean Society of Heart Failure

        Background and Objectives Heart failure (HF) is a disease with high morbidity and mortality. With ageing society and increasing prevalence of risk factors of HF, the prevalence of HF is expected to increase, as well. In this official report of the Korean Society of Heart Failure the epidemiology of HF in Korea is presented. Methods The data of Korean National Health Insurance big data, the Korean Heart Failure (KorHF) and the Korean Acute Heart Failure (KorAHF) registries have been used. Results In 2018, the prevalence, incidence, mortality of HF patients, and mortality due to HF were 2,261, 579, 245, and 10.4 per 100.000 persons, respectively. Regarding the temporal trend, there was a continuous increase in HF prevalence (0.77% in 2002, 1.48% in 2013, and 2.24% in 2018) and HF related deaths. The most common etiology for HF was ischemic origin, and the dominant subtype was HF with reduced ejection fraction (EF), defined as EF ≤40%. Of these, 77.6%, 58.0%, and 55.1% received renin-angiotensin-system inhibitors (angiotensin-converting-enzyme inhibitors or angiotensin-receptor-blockers), beta-blockers, and aldosterone-antagonists, respectively. In 2018, 1,542 implantable cardiac defibrillators and 272 cardiac resynchronization therapy devices were implanted, and 176 patients received heart transplantation. With improvement of pharmacologic and non-pharmacological therapy, the survival time of HF has been improving in the last 2 decades; nonetheless, it is associated with enormous increase in medical costs. Conclusions The prevalence of HF has been increasing in Korea. With improvement of therapy, the prognosis of HF has been improving, too.
