울증(鬱證)환자에게 용서프로그램을 활용한 오지상승요법(五志相勝療法)을 시행하여 호전된 1례

Yuzheng(鬱證) comes from obstruction of qi by stress. The patient has depressed mood, irritable sign, chest discomfort, costal pain, angry state or some strange feeling on the throat. Oh-Ji-Sang-Seung(五志相勝) therapy is base on the theory of interrelation in five elements in oriental medicine. The contents of Oh-Ji-Sang-Seung(五志相勝) therapy include five subjugations of five emotions. Anxiety subjugates fear(思勝恐), fear subjugates joy(恐勝喜), joy subjugates pity(喜勝悲), pity subjugates anger(悲勝怒), and anger subjugates anxiety(怒勝思). Forgiveness program is a kind of psychological therapies to decrease the degree of anger and it is included in Oh-Ji-Sang-Seung(五志相勝) therapy. In this case, a female patient, 50 years old, who suffered from Yuzheng(鬱證) with chest discomfort, irritable sign, easily angry state, depressed mood, hot flush, insomnia. We used Oh-Ji-Sang-Seung(五志相勝) therapy besides herbal medication, acupuncture to her condition got improved. Therefore we reported it for the treatment.
Study on the Reproductive Function in Transgenic Pig Harboring Human Erythropoietin (hEPO) Gene

Our previous study showed that transgenic (TG) pigs harboring human EPO (hEPO) gene have been shown to have reproductive disorders, including low pregnancy rates, irregular estrus cycle and low little size. To investigate these reasons, we assessed estrus behavior (standing response) and plasma $17{\beta}$-estradiol ($E_2$) level, which partly reflect reproductive function, during the estrus cycles after synchronization and superovulation by hormone treatments. Then, we analysed blood composition and expression of hEPO gene in TG pigs. Pigs were injected with PG600. After 10 days, pigs were fed with Regumate porcine for 6 days. Blood samples were collected from jugular vein. Analysis of blood composition and $E_2$ level were measured by Hemavet 950 and $E_2$ ELISA kit, respectively. And, the expression of hEPO gene in reproductive organs was quantitated by real-time RT-PCR. The percentage of estrus behavior in TG was significantly decreased. Hematocrit (HCT), hemoglobin (Hb) concentration and red blood cell (RBC) number were significantly higher in TG than wild type (WT). On the other hand, high expression of hEPO gene in TG was observed in the mammary gland as well as in the uterus. Moreover, plasma $E_2$ level was significantly higher in TG than WT. These results suggest that nonspecific expression of hEPO gene in the other organs of TG may affect blood composition and plasma $E_2$ level, thereby causing reproductive disorders.

<P>Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a prevalent anxiety disorder marked by behavioral, physiologic, and hormonal alterations. The etiology of PTSD is unknown, although exposure to a traumatic event constitutes a necessary, but not sufficient, factor. Serotonergic dysfunction has been implicated in PTSD. The present study examined the possible association between the serotonin-transporter-linked polymorphic region (SERTPR) and PTSD. The genotype and allele frequencies of the SERTPR were analyzed in 100 PTSD patients and 197 unrelated healthy controls using a case–control design. The frequency of the s/s genotype was significantly higher in PTSD patients than in normal controls. These findings suggest that the SERTPR s/s genotype is one of the genetic factors for the susceptibility to PTSD. Further investigations are required into the influence of gene polymorphisms on the biological mechanisms of PTSD, its clinical expression, and its response to treatment. <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Defects in bone are some of the most difficult injuries to treat. Biomimetic scaffolds represent a promising approach for successful bone tissue regeneration. In this study, a three-dimensional (3D) scaffold with osteo-inductive functionality was designed and assayed both in-vitro and in-vivo. Bone formation peptide-1 (BFP1), an osteo-promoting specific peptide, was covalently bound to a 3D printed polycaprolactone (PCL) scaffold using polydopamine (DOPA). The amount of BFP1 immobilized on the surface was found to increase depending on the BFP1 concentration of the loading solution. To observe the biological effects of the 3D scaffolds, human tonsil-derived mesenchymal stem cells (hTMSCs) were isolated. The cells were cultured on the scaffolds and observed to rapidly differentiate into osteoblast-like cells with osteo-promoting capabilities. The scaffolds were implanted in a rabbit calvarial defect model for 8 weeks and successfully stimulated both vessel and bone regeneration. Osteo-promoting 3D scaffolds may provide a safer and more efficient approach for bone repair and remodelling in regenerative medicine.</P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

<P>Genetic analyses have identified four major genetic pathways which control the timing of floral transitions in <I>Arabidopsis</I>. The floral promotion or inhibitory signals from these distinct pathways ultimately converge into a subset of genes, commonly known as the floral integrators, such that the plants are compelled either to switch into a flowering phase or to remain in the vegetative stage. In this review, we have discussed the recent findings regarding cross-talk between floral promotion pathways and flowering locus T and suppressor of overexpression of <I>Constans 1</I>, the major floral integrators within <I>Arabidopsis</I>. The spatial regulation of these integrators has also been discussed, as these spatial patterns may help us to understand the manner in which floral inductive signals are transmitted. We have also discussed conservation and divergence with regard to the regulation of floral integrators between <I>Arabidopsis</I> and rice. Finally, we have provided a series of insights into the complex signaling network which coordinates plant development.</P>
Validation of Age Estimation Methods Using Pulpal Volume Changes in Radiographs for Korean Adults

Purpose: It aims to verify the applicability of existing age estimation methods derived from data of foreign population groups to Korean population groups. Moreover it is to suggest a new way applicable to practical age estimation on the basis of newly calculated regression formulae from data of Korean population groups and develop a subsidiarily applicable method to the existing method. Methods: Ratio of pulp cavity to dental crown was calculated by measuring the height and width of dental crowns and pulp cavities at the cervical line from 4,034 first and second upper molars, first and second upper premolars, first and second lower molars and first and second lower premolars on both left and right sides of 400 patients who had been treated in Dental Hospital of Yonsei University College of Dentistry, and regression equations were derived from the values of the ratio. Results: The equation with correlation coefficients the highest among females was as follows: age=$107.96-75.684{\times}{\sharp}17$ TCHI-$53.741{\times}{\sharp}26$ TCVI-$40.664{\times}{\sharp}45$ TCVI-$56.307{\times}{\sharp}46$ TCVI. Randomized anohter Korean female subjects (n=20) are applicated to the new equation. Mean of error of estimate is 10.322 years, standard deviation is 12.852 years. Minimum of error of estimate is 1.018 years, maximum is 21.365 years Conclusions: The error range of age estimation was found to be slightly wider when the existing regression formulae of Drusini were applied to Korean population groups. Also age estimation in females using the ratio of pulp cavity to dental crown measured with the length and width of dental crowns and pulp cavities from maxillomandibular molars was observed to have the highest reliability in the research. However, we consider that advanced equations of regression are needed to apply to both molars and premolars of males and females in the future.

A dynamical system with a skew-commuting involution map is called a flip system. Every flip system on a subshift of finite type is represented by a pair of matrices, one of which is a permutation matrix. The transposition number of this permutation matrix is studied. We define an invariant, called the flip number, that measures the complexity of a flip system, and prove some results on it. More properties of flips on subshifts of finite type with symmetric adjacency matrices are investigated.

<P><B>Abstract: </B> Microphthalmia‐associated transcription factor (MITF) is inducible in response to cAMP through the cAMP‐responsive element–binding protein (CREB) and plays a pivotal role in the melanocyte‐specific expression of tyrosinase or tyrosinase‐related proteins (TRPs) for melanin biosynthesis. Manassantin A from <I>Saururus chinensis</I> inhibits cAMP‐induced melanin production in B16 melanoma cells. Here, we focused on molecular basis of the antimelanogenic activity. Manassantin A consistently inhibited the cAMP elevator 3‐isobutyl‐1‐methylxanthine (IBMX)‐ or dibutyryl cAMP‐induced melanin production in B16 cells or in melan‐a melanocytes by down‐regulating the expression of <I>tyrosinase</I> or <I>TRP1</I> gene. Moreover, manassantin A suppressed MITF induction through IBMX‐activated CREB pathway, directly inhibiting the Ser‐133 phosphorylation of CREB. However, manassantin A did not affect IBMX‐increased cAMP levels in these cells but also other cAMP‐dependent melanogenic pathways through post‐translational modifications of MITF. This putative molecular mechanism of manassantin A in the inhibition of melanin production suggests its pharmacological potential in skin hyperpigmentation.</P>
Bacteriocin from Purple Nonsulfur Phototrophic Bacteria, Rhodobacter capsulatus

To find whether productivity of bacteriocin is controlled between different species under unusual cultural conditions, we used Rhodobacter capsulatus ATCC 17016 as a producer and Rhodopseudomonas palustris ATCC 17003 as an indicator. Rhodobacter capsulatus was cultured under aerobic conditions in the dark in Lascelles medium containing 0.3% Triton X-100. As a result, bacteriocin productivity increased enormously. The optimal pH range of bacteriocin production was 6~7.8. Through partial purification of bacteriocin, the molecular weight was roughly estimated at 14 kDa. Plasmid had no influence on bacteriocin production by Rhodobacter capsulatus. Our findings indicate that culture conditions affect bacteriocin productivity between more distantly related species, and bacteriocin of Rhodobacter capsulatus is not encoded by a plasmid.
