        Simultaneous treatment with sorafenib and glucose restriction inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma in vitro and in vivo by impairing SIAH1-mediated mitophagy

        Transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) is the first-line treatment for unresectable intermediate-stage hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). It is of high clinical significance to explore the synergistic effect of TACE with antiangiogenic inhibitors and the molecular mechanisms involved. This study determined that glucose, but not other analyzed nutrients, offered significant protection against cell death induced by sorafenib, as indicated by glucose deprivation sensitizing cells to sorafenib-induced cell death. Next, this synergistic effect was found to be specific to sorafenib, not to lenvatinib or the chemotherapeutic drugs cisplatin and doxorubicin. Mechanistically, sorafenib-induced mitophagy, as indicated by PINK1 accumulation, increased the phospho-poly-ubiquitination modification, accelerated mitochondrial membrane protein and mitochondrial DNA degradation, and increased the amount of mitochondrion-localized mKeima-Red engulfed by lysosomes. Among several E3 ubiquitin ligases tested, SIAH1 was found to be essential for inducing mitophagy; that is, SIAH1 silencing markedly repressed mitophagy and sensitized cells to sorafenib-induced death. Notably, the combined treatment of glucose restriction and sorafenib abolished ATP generation and mitophagy, which led to a high cell death rate. Oligomycin and antimycin, inhibitors of electron transport chain complexes, mimicked the synergistic effect of sorafenib with glucose restriction to promote cell death mediated via mitophagy inhibition. Finally, inhibition of the glucose transporter by canagliflozin (a clinically available drug used for type-II diabetes) effectively synergized with sorafenib to induce HCC cell death in vitro and to inhibit xenograft tumor growth in vivo. This study demonstrates that simultaneous treatment with sorafenib and glucose restriction is an effective approach to treat HCC, suggesting a promising combination strategy such as transarterial sorafenib-embolization (TASE) for the treatment of unresectable HCC.

        A Study on Chinese Pidgin English

        서로 다른 언어를 쓰는 사람들이 원활한 의사소통을 위해서 형성한 혼성어이다. 중국 피진어는 중국어와 영어의 혼성어이며 현재까지도 많은 사람들이 중국 피진어를 사용하고 있다. 최근 몇 년 동안 중국과 외국 언어학자들은 중국 피진어에 큰 관심을 가져왔다. 많은 학자들이 중국 피진어에 대한 자신들의 의견을 개진해 왔다. 본 논문은 중국어와 영어의 언어자료에 근거하여, 사회언어학의 관점에서 보는 중국 피진 영어의 역사적 형성과정과 언어적 특징을 체계적으로 분석하였다. 이 분야를 연구하거나 관심이 있는 분들에게 도움이 되었으면 한다. A Pidgin is a language variety created for the purpose of communicating with some other language groups. Historically, pidgins were used as main media between many different language groups. Chinese Pidgin English, is a Pidgin language between Chinese and English, which is still used by many Chinese. In recent years, domestic and foreign linguists have had a great interest in Chinese Pidgin English. Many scholars have put forward their own opinions on Chinese Pidgin English. Based on the Chinese and English corpora, this paper will make a summary on the historical process and the linguistic features of Chinese Pidgin English from the perspective of sociolinguistic, which is systematic and diverse.

        Implementation of Excitatory CMOS Neuron Oscillator for Robot Motion Control Unit

        This paper presents an excitatory CMOS neuron oscillator circuit design, which can synchronize two neuron-bursting patterns. The excitatory CMOS neuron oscillator is composed of CMOS neurons and CMOS excitatory synapses. And the neurons and synapses are connected into a close loop. The CMOS neuron is based on the Hindmarsh-Rose (HR) neuron model and excitatory synapse is based on the chemical synapse model. In order to fabricate using a 0.18 um CMOS standard process technology with 1.8V compatible transistors, both time and amplitude scaling of HR neuron model is adopted. This full-chip integration minimizes the power consumption and circuit size, which is ideal for motion control unit of the proposed bio-mimetic micro-robot. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed excitatory CMOS neuron oscillator performs the expected waveforms with scaled time and amplitude. The active silicon area of the fabricated chip is $1.1mm^2$ including I/O pads.

        Protective Effect Against Hydroxyl Radical-induced DNA Damage and Antioxidant Mechanism of [6]-gingerol: A Chemical Study

        [6]-Gingerol is known as the major bioactive constituent of ginger. In the study, it was observed to effectively protect against •OH-induced DNA damage (IC50 328.60 ± 24.41 μM). Antioxidant assays indicated that [6]- gingerol could efficiently scavenge various free radicals, including •OH radical (IC50 70.39 ± 1.23 μM), •O2 − radical (IC50 228.40 ± 9.20 μM), DPPH• radical (IC50 27.35 ± 1.44 μM), and ABTS+• radical (IC50 2.53 ± 0.070 μM), and reduce Cu2+ ion (IC50 11.97 ± 0.68 μM). In order to investigate the possible mechanism, the reaction product of [6]-gingerol and DPPH• radical was further measured using HPLC combined mass spectrometry. The product showed a molecular ion peak at m/z 316 [M+Na]+, and diagnostic fragment loss (m/z 28) for quinone. On this basis, it can be concluded that: (i) [6]-gingerol can effectively protect against •OH-induced DNA damage; (ii) a possible mechanism for [6]-gingerol to protect against oxidative damage is •OH radical scavenging; (iii) [6]-gingerol scavenges •OH radical through hydrogen atom (H•) transfer (HAT) and sequential electron (e) proton transfer (SEPT) mechanisms; and (iv) both mechanisms make [6]-gingerol be oxidized to semi-quinone or quinone forms.

        Factors Influencing the Quality of Standardized Treatment for Patients with Post–Cardiac Arrest Syndrome

        Background and Objectives: For the present study, we investigated the factors that influence the quality of standardized treatment for patients with post–cardiac arrest syndrome (PCAS) to improve the quality of PCAS treatment. Subjects and Methods: We collected data on patients with cardiac arrest (CA) who were admitted to the intensive care units (ICUs) of 11 hospitals-Class II Grade A or above-in Suzhou from January to October 2013. Indexes of standardized treatment were observed within 72 hrs of CA. We analyzed monitoring techniques, monitoring frequency, ICU human and material resources, and intensivists’ knowledge of PCAS treatment to explore how those factors affected the management of patients with PCAS. Results: The bed/nurse ratio and the frequency with which core temperature was recorded correlated closely with the implementation of therapeutic hypothermia (TH) within 6 hrs of CA. The bed/doctor ratio and intensivists’ knowledge about PCAS correlated closely with high-quality blood glucose control within 6 hrs of CA. Furthermore, the frequency with which core temperature was recorded was an independent factor influencing the quality of TH implementation, and the number times blood gas was analyzed was an independent factor influencing how well partial pressure of carbon dioxide was kept within the normal range in the 6 hrs after CA. Conclusion: The frequency of core temperature measurements and the number of times blood gas is analyzed are the most important factors influencing the quality of standardized treatment for patients with PCAS.

      • Anthocyanins from the Fruit of Vitis Coignetiae Pulliat Inhibit TNF-Augmented Cancer Proliferation, Migration, and Invasion in A549 Cells

        Objective: Anthocyanins belong to a class of flavonoids, exhibiting antioxidant and anti-inflammatory actions have been reported to have anti-cancer effects. Here, we investigated whether anthocyanins can inhibit cancer cell proliferation, invasion, and angiogenesis in human lung cancer A549 cells, which are critically involved in cancer metastasis. Methods: We used anthocyanins from fruits of Vitis coignetiae Pulliat (AIMs) which has been used in Korean folk medicine for the treatment of inflammatory diseases and cancers. We have performed cell proliferation assays, cell invasion assay, gelatin zymography, wound healing assay and western blotting to examine whether anthocyanins can inhibit cancer cell proliferation, invasion, and angiogenesis in A549 cells. Result: AIMs did not inhibit cancer cell proliferation on A549 cells. Also, AIMs suppressed cancer migration, and invasion by supressing MMP-2 and MMP-9 expression. The Immuno-blotting results also revealed that AIMs suppressed the proteins involved in cancer proliferation (COX-2, C-myc, cyclin D1), migration and invasion (MMP-2, MMP-9), anti-apoptosis (XIAP, and c-IAP2), adhesion and angiogenesis (ICAM-1, VEGF). Conclusion: This study demonstrates that the anthocyanins isolated from fruits of Vitis coignetiae Pulliat inhibit cancer proliferation, cancer migration, and invasion that is involve in cancer-metastasis. This study provides evidence that AIMs might have anti-cancer effects on human lung cancer.

        韩语汉字词与汉语词汇词义的对比研究

        Although Chinese and Korean belong to different language families, Korea is one of the countries in the East Asian Chinese cultural circle, the development of language is deeply influenced by Chinese characters. In Korean vocabulary system, we know that Korean vocabulary is divided into three types: intrinsic words, Chinese characters, and foreign words, while 70% of the total Korean vocabulary are Chinese characters. This paper will focus on the meaning of comparison between Korean Chinese Characters and Chinese words. Furthermore, we will analyze the similarities and differences between Korean Chinese Characters and Chinese words. Finally, the problems in the teaching of Chinese vocabulary to Korean students will be summarized. This paper is divided into four sections. The first section is a comparative analysis of Korean Chinese Characters and Chinese vocabulary. It mainly expounds the similarities and differences between Chinese vocabulary and Korean Chinese Characters. In the second section, combining with the practical experience of the author's teaching work, the application and teaching methods of Chinese teaching to Korean students will be discussed through the methods of classification and comparison. The third section is the conclusion of this paper. Problems existing in the teaching of Korean Chinese words will be summarized. We hope to promote the teaching of Chinese characters, provide practical reference and some help for Chinese learners in Korean. Moreover, for the deep study, we will prepare the paper about Korean Chinese Characters and Chinese Words focusing on the grammar. We hope to promote the teaching of Chinese characters, and provide some help for Chinese learners in Korean.
