Repellent efficacy of essential oils and plant extracts against Tribolium castaneum and Plodia interpunctella

This study was conducted to investigate the repellent efficacy of essential oils (Origanum vulgare, Pimpinella anisum, and Tanacetum cinerariifolium) and four plant extracts (Agastache rugosa, Capsicum annuum, Citrus reticulata, and Ginkgo biloba) against Tribolium castaneum (adults and larvae) and Plodia interpunctella (larvae). Gas chromatography/mass spectrometry analysis revealed the presence of carvacrol, anethole, and jasmolin I as the predominant constituent in O. vulgare, P. anisum, and T. cinerariifolium, respectively. Furthermore, ethyl hexopyranoside, 9,12‐octadecadienoic acid, cyclopentanol, and 2‐cresol were identified in A. rugosa, C. annuum, C. reticulata, and G. biloba, respectively. The repellent efficacy of each essential oil, plant extract, and the combination of oils was evaluated using a specially designed cylinder trap for 120 h. Among the three oils, O. vulgare and T. cinerariifolium had greatest repellent efficacy against P. interpunctella larvae. T. cinerariifolium exhibited effective repellence against the adults and larvae of T. castaneum. Therefore, O. vulgare (O) and T. cinerariifolium (T) were selected for further investigation of combined effects. Two essential oils were mixed in three different ratios of OT1 (1:3), OT2 (1:1), and OT3 (3:1). The repellent efficacies of OT1 and OT2 against the adults of T. castaneum were significantly greater than that of OT3. OT1 was effective against the larvae of T. castaneum, whereas OT2 was effective against the larvae of P. interpunctella. OT1 enhanced the repellent efficacy by approximately five times against larvae of T. castaneum, compared with that of T. cinerariifolium. Overall, OT1 was selected as the best repellent substance against all the tested insects.

Pd(Ⅱ)이온과 Linear Poly(ethyleneimine)간에 생성되는 고분자-금속 착물의 구조와 성질에 관한 연구

Pd(II) metal ion has attracted interest of many researchers because of its potential applications and of its similarity and difference in chemical properties. In this study, complex formation of Pd(II) metal ion with polymeric amine ligand namely, linear poly(ethyleneimine)(LPEI), was investigated utilizing spectroscopic and potentiometric methods as well as elementary analysis. From UV/VIS spectroscopic study, complexation of LEPI to Pd(II) ion exhibit an absorption band at 347nm at the low mole ratio (below 2.0). This species can be understood either as the binuclear complex bridged by chloride ions or a complex of Pd(II) ion with three chloride ions and an amine group. At the high mixing ratio, absorption spectrum centered at 300nm was apparent, which is due to the complexation of LPEI to the Pd(II) ion. Mole ratio analysis for the LPEI-Pd(II) system revealed that complex formation was most stable at the LPEI ratio of 4.0 relative to metal ion. This result was confirmed by elementary analysis. From the potentiometric titration, successive and overall stability constants were measured and the results were analyzed by a modified Bjerrum method.

Cu(Ⅱ)이온과 Poly(vinyl alcohol)간에 생성되는 고분자-금속 착물의 열역학적 거동에 관한 연구

The dissociation constants for poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) at a constant ionic strength of μ=0.1(KCl) were measured by potentiometric titration at various temperatures. The formation constants for the Cu(II)-PVA complex at the same condition were also measured in this study. From the temperature dependence of those dissociation and formation constants, various thermodynamic parameters such as ΔG, ΔH, ΔS were determined. From the thermodynamic parameters, it was concluded that the dissociation of a proton from PVA is unfavorable with a negative entropy and positive enthalpy. In contrast, the complex formation was a spontaneous and exothermic process with favorable entropy.

Twenty seven out of ca. 5,000 actinomycete strains, which were isolated from soil collected throughout the country, showed antimicrobial effects against fungi, Rhizopus stronifer (ATCC6227a), Rhizoctonia solani (KCCM 11271) and yeast, Candida albicans(ATCC10231). From these antifungal microorganisms, we further selected seven strains which seemed to produce insecticidal substances with in vivo test, using silkworm, Bombyx mori and beet armyworm, Spodoptera exigua. Morphological and biochemical experiments revealed that three strains out of seven were streptomyces. Further investigations on the physical and chemical properties of these antifungal and insecticidal substances are now in progress.

SnO_(2)-TiO_(2)(Sb, Pt), as raw material for hydrocarbon gas sensors, was prepared by coprecipitation method. The suspension precipitated was dried at 110℃ in oven or by freeze-drying method. Conductive sensing material was synthesized by SbCl_(5) addition to precipitation solution. Drying method of suspension precipitated and added titanium dioxide plays a important role in characteristics of the thick films. Titanium dioxide was transformed from anatase or glass to rutile structure and this transformation affected the gas sensing characteristics of the thick film. Platinum added to the raw material at coprecipitation( as chloroplatinic acid VI hydrate ) improved the gas sensitivity to hydrocarbon gases.

한국 조리식품의 칼슘과 인의 함량에 대한 고찰

This study was conducted to investigate the content of calcium and phosphorous andtheir blance in the korean foods which were composed of boiled rices (9 kinds), soups(34 kinds), pot stews (27 kinds), roasted foods (26 kinds), hard boiled foods (22kinds), jerkings (21 kinds) and seasoning (22 kinds) as side dishes. Boiled rice, boiled rice and cereals, and rice ball among 9 kinds of boiled rices wereextremely acidic food as their P/Ca ratio was higher than 5, but hash rice, fried rice,olio rice and mixed soup rice among them were lower than 2. In the soup5, only P/Ca ratio of young brocken soup among them was the range of3 to 4, and the ratio of chicken soup, shopped beef soup and the rest 31 kinds werelower than 2. In the pot stews, P/Ca ratio of ·soybean curd residue and shank pot stew were therange of 3 to 4, the rest 25 kinds were lower than 2. Among the 91 kinds of side dishes, the P/Ca ratio of roasted potato green pepper,hard boiled hot green pepper, hard hotted beef potato, hard boiled hair tail, roastedonion, grilled pumpkin, rolled egg fry and roasted mackerel pike were the range of-3 to 4. Extremely acidic foods above 4 were roasted chicken potato, roasted pork, roasted'common octopus, roasted anchovy, roasted thin strips cuttle fish, chicken pot stew,roasted pork potato, roasted pork, roasted pork with soy sauce, fried potato Onlon fried:chicken, fried pork potato, fried cuttle liver, fried pork, roasted spanish mackerel .ard iced thin strips of cuttle fish, and almost of the rests were lower than 2. As above results, there were characteristics which acid-base balance of korean foodswere not balanced independently, but could control the balance with compositions as amenu, while there were some unbalanced foods owing to calcium content which werecomposed boiled rice, meat soup and side dish prepared from meat.

학업우수 초등학생 자녀를 둔 어머니의 진로지도 경험에 관한 질적 연구

본 연구는 학업우수 초등학생 자녀를 둔 어머니의 진로지도 경험을 한국의 사회·문화적 맥락에서 밝히고자 하였다. 이를 위해 서울지역에 살고 있는 초등학교 6학년인 학업우수아의 어머니 9명을 심층면담하고, 질적 연구 방법으로 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 107개의 개념과 44개의 하위 범주, 그리고 14개의 범주가 도출되었다. 어머니들의 진로지도 경험을 포괄하는 핵심범주로는 '자녀의 성취를 위해 자녀의 특성을 존중하고 자녀의 자율성을 키우면서 자신이 바람직하다고 여기는 방향으로 이끌어감'으로 밝혀졌다. 연구 결과를 바탕으로 학업우수 초등학생 자녀를 둔 어머니의 진로지도 경험의 실체를 논의하였으며, 부모를 대상으로 한 진로교육프로그램의 필요성과 후속 연구에 대한 제언을 하였다. This study examined the experience about career guidance of mother who has a academically talented child in Korea. Nine mothers were interviewed and the interview data were analyzed based on the Qualitative Research Method. Result has107 concepts, 44 subcategories and 14 categories. The core category is "The mothers consider their children's characteristics for the children's accomplishment and foster children's self-control and lead their children to desirable object the mothers view".Implications of the results and suggestions for future research are discussed.

Proliferative glomerulonephritis with monoclonal IgG deposits is a novel phenotype of glomerular injury with the diagnostic criteria of (1) the presence of glomerular monoclonal IgG deposits restricted to a single IgG subclass and a single light chain isotype, associated with endocapillary proliferative, membranoproliferative, or membranous features; (2) the presence of granular("immune complex type") deposits by electron microscopy; and (3) the absence of clinical and laboratory evidence of cryoglobulinemia. We report a case of 65-year-old man with generalized edema who was diagnosed as proliferative glomerulonephritis with monoclonal IgG deposits by renal biopsy.
