Anaplasmosis is a tick-borne disease mainly of cattle, sheep, and goats. Anaplasmosis in goat had been reported at last year by authers. The disease brought the economic losses in the goat farm in Chonbuk province. In order to treat the disease, a long-acting formulation terramycin injectable solution was used experimental animals which indigenous goats were sick with moderate anemia. We were devided into two groups was treated with single dosage(20mg/kg of body weight). one group was treated with single injection, the other group was treated with twice of the same dosage intramusculary injection. The results indicate that the use of long-acting terramycin would minimize clinical signs of anaplasmosis infection in goat. After treament the differrences of hematological appearences and parasitaemia were observed in the effect of terramycin treatment. obviously, increased value of RBC. HB and HCT, and parasitaemia by means of Giemsa staining and acrydine orange staining was observed decreased due to treatment.

Temperature is one of important factors to determine insect phenology. Based on the bioclimatic law, the relationship between climate change and ecosystem change was studied from 2008 to 2013 in HECRI by monitoring the spring emergence patterns of three Papilionidae species (Papilio xuthus, P. machaon, and Sericinus montela). The overwintering pupae were set on the wood plate and adult emergence were monitored and recorded in every morning. The first spring emergence of P. xuthus, P. machaon and S. montela in 2013 were Apr 19th, May 1st and Apr 22th, respectively. And peak time of three species were May 7th, May 11th and May 9th, respectively. Study on temperature-dependent development was conducted to investigate the temperature effect on adult emergence of overwintering S. montela pupae at four different constant temperatures (15, 20, 25 and 30°C) with photoperiod 10:14(L:D). The low temperature threshold of female, male and both sexes combined were 12.39, 12.16, and 12.37°C, respectively. Developmental period of overwintering pupae to adults decreased with increasing temperature from 15 to 30°C. Thermal constant of female, male and both sexes combined were 220.26, 192.31, and 200.18DD, respectively. The relationship between thermal constant and cumulative adult emergence was predicted by temperature-dependent development. Estimate through 7 times on the highest temperature was equal and results were distinctively divided into two pattern(2008~2010 and 2011~2013). The relationship between observed and estimated values was presented by linear regression (r2=0.97)

Caterpillars, the larvae of butters and moths(Lepidoptera), are enormously important in terrestrial food webs. They are not only the preferred grub for insects, birds, fishes, reptile and amphibian but also engineers of nutrient cycling processes and are the largest natural consumers of vegetation. Even though their major role in the ecosystem, details of biology are poorly known for most species. HECRI(Holoce Ecosystem Conservation Research Institution) has been carried out to identify larvae and to acquire useful biological information of primary endemic insect larvae through rearing from 1997 to 2013. Of these this study is the result about special caterpillars feeding on the foliage Oak Trees (Quercus spp.) which composed 60-70% of broad-leaved forest thereby important component for forest in the Korean Peninsula. Total 297 species belonging to 23 families were collected and identified 101 species belonging to 21 families. Among them Oak Trees-dependent monophagous caterpillars are 247 species belonging to 20 families and polyphagous caterpillars are 50 species belonging to 11 families. The dominant family is Noctuidae(83 species), second is Geometridae(67 species) and followed by Notodontidae(33 species).

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>We investigated the enhancement of one electron transfer kinetics at the nanoporous indium tin oxide (ITO) electrodes. In this study, the origin of the catalytic activity in nanoporous electrodes was explored with regard to the effects of confined morphology of the electrode to the heterogeneous electron transfer enhancements. In order to look into the geometric contribution to electrocatalytic activity, we chose ITO as the electrode material due to its chemically inert surface on which most electron transfer reactions occur very slowly. Systematic variation of nanoporous ITO layer thickness allows us to effectively exclude the surface-originated electrocatalytic effects of the nanoporous electrodes such as defects. It was clearly found that the single electron transfer of Fe2+/3+ involving no proton transfer is more facilitated at thicker ITO nanoporous layers, which has longer pores, and this geometric enhancement was more evident at lower temperatures.</P>

Background: Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin disease. The etiology of psoriasis is not fully understood, but the genetic background is considered to be the most important factor. To date, many psoriasis-related genes have been discovered, but the role of many important genes has not been well understood. Objective: The purpose of this study is to uncover possible roles of MDA5 in psoriasis. Methods: Expression of MDA5 was investigated using immunohistochemistry. Then, MDA5 was overexpressed in keratinocytes using a recombinant adenovirus. Results: As a result of immunohistochemical staining, the expression of MDA5 was significantly increased in the epidermis of psoriasis compared to normal skin. Similarly, the expression of MDA5 was increased in imiquimod-induced psoriasiform dermatitis model. In cultured keratinocytes, toll-like receptor 3 agonist poly(I:C) induced expression of MDA5 at both mRNA and protein levels. When MDA5 was overexpressed using a recombinant adenovirus, poly(I:C)-induced cytokine expression was significantly increased. Finally, MDA5 overexpression significantly inhibited calcium-induced differentiation of keratinocytes. Conclusion: These results suggest that MDA5 increases in psoriasis and negatively regulates keratinocyte differentiation. (Ann Dermatol 33(4) 339∼344, 2021)

<P>Light addressable/activated electrochemistry (LAE) has recently attracted attention as it can provide spatially resolved electrochemical information without using pre-patterned electrodes whose sizes and positions are unchangeable. Here, we propose hematite (α-Fe2O3) as the photoanode for LAE, which does not require any sort of surface modification for protection or facilitating charge transfer. As experimentally confirmed with various redox species, hematite is stable enough to be used for repetitive electroanalytical measurements. More importantly, it offers exceptionally high spatial resolution so that the “virtual electrode” is exactly as large as the light spot owing to the short diffusion length of the minority carriers. Quantitative analysis of dopamine in this study shows that the hematite-based photoanode is a promising platform for many potential LAE applications including spatially selective detection of oxidizable biomolecules.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>
New Korean Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Management of Dry Eye Disease
Dong Hyun Kim,엄영섭,Chang Ho Yoon,HyunSoo Lee,Ho Sik Hwang,김진형,Tae-im Kim,송종석,Kyoung Yul Seo,윤경철 대한안과학회 2024 Korean Journal of Ophthalmology Vol.38 No.2
New Korean guidelines for the diagnosis and management of dry eye disease were developed based on literature reviews by the Korean Dry Eye Guideline Establishment Committee, a previous dry eye guideline by Korean Corneal Disease Study Group, a survey of Korean Dry Eye Society (KDES) members, and KDES consensus meetings. The new definition of dry eye was also proposed by KDES regular members. The new definition by the regular members of the KDES is as follows: “Dry eye is a disease of the ocular surface characterized by tear film abnormalities and ocular symptoms.” The combination of ocular symptoms and an unstable tear film (tear breakup time <7 seconds) was considered as essential components for the diagnosis of dry eye. Schirmer test and ocular surface staining were considered adjunctive diagnostic criteria. The treatment guidelines consisted of a simplified stepwise approach according to aqueous deficiency dominant, evaporation dominant, and altered tear distribution subtypes. New Korean guidelines can be used as a simple, valid, and accessible tool for the diagnosis and management of dry eye disease in clinical practice.
