A New Sesame Variety, “Kangbaek” with Disease Resistance, Lodging Tolerence and High Yield

A new sesame variety Kangbaek was developed from Yeongnam Agricultural Research Institute in 2004. Cros wasmade by lodging resistant SP9003-3 line to the F1with high yielding capacity, folowed by pedigree selection, yield test and RYT by the sesame breeding team at the National Insti-tute of Crop Science up to 2003. The variety showed higher disease resistance, especially phytophothra disease, and lodging resis-respectively. It's 1000 grains weight was about 2.54 g indicating 0.03 g heavier than that of Yangbaekkae, and it's oil content wasabout 52%. Kangbaek also contained total 7.65mg/g of such lignans as sesamin and sesamolin. The average yield of Kang-baek was 82 kg per 10a at the national-wide regional performance.

서울, 충청도 및 강원도 지역의 김장김치 담금방법을 알고자 203개 가정에서 설문조사를 한 결과 3지역에서 김장김치류중 배추김치는 95%이상 남았는데 배추선택시 결구도를 가장 중요시 하였다. 배추는 천일염을 주로 사용하여(66∼78%)소금물에 적신 후 다시 소금을 뿌려 약 7∼10시간 동안 절였다. 김치숙성시 서울과 충청도는 배추상태가, 강원도는 양념이 가장 큰 영향을 미치는 것으로 인식되었으며 김치보관은 70%이상이 김치 항아리를 이용하였는데 김치보관용기와 주거형태(단독 및 아파트)간에는 x^2=49.87(P<0.000)로 유의적인 관계가 있는 것으로 밝혀졌다. A survey study was carried out on the preparation methods of the Winter Kimchies in Seoul, Chung Cheong and Kang Won area by questioning 203 homes individually. The reaults showed that the cabbage Kimchi was prepared more than 95% of total Kimchi a good heads of the Chinese cabbage were selected as proper quality of the cabbage. The cabbage were brined for 7∼10 hours with using sun dried salts mostly(66∼78%). In Seoul and Chung Cheong area the quality of Chinese cabbage was regarded as the primary factor and the seasoning materials in Kang Won area for good quality of Kimchi, more than 70% of the residents prepared Kimchi in Kimchi jar, and the correlation between the jar use kind of resident such as house or apartment was significantly high(p<0.000).

Limestone bodies under the tectonic environment have experienced various tectonic processes, and also changed the stress state. In this study, calcite twins found in limestones of the Joseon Supergroup and Pyeongan Supergroup in the northeastern part of the Ogcheon Belt, South Korea were measured, then the paleostress (i.e., the maximum shortening axis) was reconstructed using the new calcite strain gauge (NCSG) technique. The average twin thickness and average twin intensity increase as the total twin strain increases. We utilize the appearance of twins, the average twin thickness and average twin intensity, and the total twin strain to estimate that the observed calcite twins were produced at temperatures of < 200oC in the Joseon Supergroup and 170oC in the Pyeongan Supergroup. In the Joseon Supergroup, the dominant direction of the maximum shortening axis WNW-ESE to NW-SE; NE-SW shortening is also observed. The maximum shortening axes in the Pyeongan Supergroup are oriented NW-SE and NE-SW. The NE-SW direction of maximum shortening is associated with the occurrence of the Songrim orogeny of the Paleozoic to Early Jurassic, and the NW-SE direction of maximum shortening correlates to the Daebo orogeny of the Early Jurassic to Late Jurassic. It is thus concluded that the paleostress across the study area changed from NE-SW to NW-SE during the Mesozoic.

In this paper, the crack properties of steel fiber reinforced concrete (SFRC) structures for environment by experimental and analytical methods are discussed. The major role played by the steel fiber occurs in the post-cracking zone, in which the fibers bridge across the cracked matrix. Because of its improved ability to break crack, SFRC has better crack properties than that of reinforced concrete (RC). Crack properties are influenced by longitudinal reinforcement ratio, volume and type of steel fiber, strength of concrete.

Heat stroke, a medical emergency, occurs when the body's thermal regulation is upset and unable to dissipate adequate amounts of heat with a rise in body temperature. It is characterized by hyperpyrexia, with a core temperature of 40˚C or more. hot dry skin, and central nervous system disturbance and usually results in rhabdomyolysis and multiorgan failure. Our case, a 43-year-old healthy male, was caused by a marathon, half course, on a sunny day in late summer. He suddenly fell down on the road and was delivered to a nearby hospital, where a seizure developed. He was transfered to our hospital and then displayed Central Nervous System disturbance, hot dry skin, acute liver failure, rhabdomyolysis, anurlc acute renal failure, and disseminated intravasculular coagulopathy. He was treated with general supportive care and hemofiltration. Despite the aggressive management, he died of shock on the fifth day after admission.

In the paper, damping behavior of steel fiber reinforced concrete(SFRC) beams by experimental and numerical method is discussed. Because of its improved ability to dissipte energy, SFRC has a better camping behavior than that of reinforced concrete(RC). Damping behavior is influenced by longitudinal reinforcement ratio, volume and type of steel fiber,strength of concrete and the stress level. Damping in the SFRC beams has been emaluated from dynamic experimental test data at various levels of cracked states in the beams. A FEM program(TICAL) has been developed based on the relationships between curvature and damping. It is observed for SFRC beams with 0.44% of tensile reinforcement steel that approximate 5% to 35% was relatively in the damping ratio generally depending on the load level.

Superficial temporal artery aneurysm is a rare entity, which is related to blunt trauma. It was diagnosed with history, physical examination and CT or angiography. Aneurysm is simply treated with excision and ligation. We report a case with review of literature.
