부부의 상위기분과 정서표현이 결혼만족에 미치는 자기효과와 배우자효과

국문 초록 (Abstract)

많은 부부문제가 자신의 정서를 정확하게 인식하지 못하거나 상호 표현의 미숙 혹은 표현 방식의 차이로 발생하게 된다. 본 연구는 개인 내적 요인인 상위기분과 대인 간 요인인 정서표현이 결혼만족에 미치는 영향을 탐색하였다. 부부문제를 현상 이전에 인식의 문제에서 출발하고 상호 표현의 중요성을 살펴봄으로써 부부내담자들에게는 가장 기본적인 자기통찰을, 상담자들에게는 좀 더 효과적인 부부상담 접근법을 제시하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 이를 위하여 서울, 경기, 충청지역에 거주하는 336쌍의 부부들이 응답한 상위기분 척도와 정서표현성 척도, 결혼만족도 척도로 구성된 설문을 분석하였고, 부부 상호 간 역동성을 규명하기 위하여 APIM(Actor-Partner Interdependent Model) 분석방법을 사용하였다.
연구의 결과는 다음과 같다.
첫째, 상위기분과 결혼만족의 관계에서 남편은 자기효과와 배우자효과가 다 유의했으나 아내는 자기효과만 유의했다. 이는 부부관계에 있어 남편의 결혼만족은 자신의 정서인식능력에 영향을 받지만 아내의 결혼만족은 자신과 남편의 정서인식에 관한 능력 둘 다에 영향을 받고 있다는 것을 의미한다.
둘째, 상위기분과 정서표현의 관계에서 남편과 아내 모두 자기효과만 유의하고 배우자효과는 유의하지 않았다. 이는 부부관계에 있어 정서표현은 배우자의 정서인식능력보다는 각자 자신의 정서인식능력과 유의한 관계라는 것을 의미한다. 그리고 부부 각자 자신의 상위기분에서 받는 영향력의 크기도 비슷한 수준이었다.
셋째, 정서표현과 결혼만족의 관계에서 남편과 아내에게서 자기효과와 배우자효과가 모두 유의한 것으로 나타났다. 이는 부부관계에 있어 남편과 아내의 정서표현의 정도는 자신의 결혼만족뿐만 아니라 서로 배우자의 결혼만족에도 영향을 준다는 것을 의미한다.
이 외로, 상위기분과 정서표현, 결혼만족의 관계를 보기 위한 구조모형분석에서는 상위기분과 결혼만족의 관계에서 정서표현이 매개역할을 하는 것으로 나타나지는 않았다. 즉, 부부의 결혼만족은 자신이나 배우자의 정서표현을 매개로 하지 않고 자신의 정서인식능력에서 직접 영향을 받는다는 것이다. 이는 부부관계에서 현재의 정서를 표현하기 전에 자신의 정서를 자각하는 내적 요인이 선행되어야 한다는 것을 보여준다.
본 연구의 의의는 정서적 친밀감이 무엇보다 중요한 부부관계의 특성에주목하여 개인 내적 요인과 대인 간 요인 모두 정서와 관련한 변인을 선정하였고, 결혼만족에 미치는 부부 간 자기효과와 배우자효과의 영향력을 APIM 방법으로 분석함으로써 부부관계를 역동적으로 검증한 것이다. 그 결과 결혼만족도 증진에는 정서적 표현과 더불어 정서를 자각하는 것이 중요하고, 상담 장면에서 상위기분을 다루는 것의 필요성과 부부상담 현장에서는 자기 자신의 정서인지능력을 향상시킬 수 있는 정서능력향상프로그램 개발이 요구됨을 규명하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

A large number of marital problems come from the inaccurate cognition about one’s own emotion or immaturity of inter-expression or difference of the expressions. This study is to verify couple’s meta-mood as an intrapersonal factor and emotional expressivity as an interpersonal factor on marital satisfaction. Based on this, the purpose of this study was to provide the basic insight into couple clients and more effective way on couple counseling to counselors by inspecting the importance of perception and inter-expressivity. The questionnaires consisted of Trait Meta-Mood Scale, Emotional Expressivity Scale, and Quality of Marriage Index, were answered by 336 couples and analyzed. To clarify couple’s inter-dynamic, APIM(Actor-Partner Interdependent Model) analysis method was used.
The findings are as follows.
First, as a result of verifying the actor effect and the partner effect on the relationship of meta-mood and marital satisfaction, all were indicated to be significant except the wife’s partner effect on this relationship. This implies that husband’s marital satisfaction is influenced by only his own meta-mood while wife’s marital satisfaction is influenced by both her own and her husband’s meta-mood.
Second, as a result of verifying the actor effect and the partner effect on the relationship of meta-mood and emotional expressivity, the actor effect was indicated to be significant in both husband and wife while the partner effect was not. It implies that emotional expressivity on marital relationship is influenced by one’s own meta-mood rather than partner’s meta-mood. It is also similar that the effect size of the meta-mood’s influence.
Third, as a result of verifying the actor effect and the partner effect on the relationship of emotional expressivity and marital satisfaction, the actor effect and the partner effect were indicated to be significant in both husband and wife. It implies that the level of husband’s and wife’s emotional expressivity has influence on partner’s marital satisfaction as well as one’s own marital satisfaction.
Further, in consequence of verifying structural relationship among meta-mood, emotional expressivity and marital satisfaction, mediator effect of emotional expressivity were not significant. That is, one’s marital satisfaction is directly influenced one’s own meta-mood without mediator effect of one’s own or partner’s emotional expressivity. It implies that intrapersonal factor as perception towards one’s own emotion has greater influence on marital satisfaction, rather than emotional expressivity.
The significance in this study is that emotion-related factors in both intrapersonal and interpersonal are selected because emotional intimacy is important on marital relationship, and that actor effect and partner effect of these factors on marital satisfaction is analyzed by APIM method to verify dynamics on marital relationship. As a result, it clarified that perception of one’s own emotion as well as emotional expressivity is important to enhance marital satisfaction, and that it is necessary for treating meta-mood on couple counseling setting and developing an emotional ability empowerment program.
