The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between difficulties in emotion regulation, communication and marital satisfaction.
Below is the subject of this research: The research 1 examined the mediate model of communication for the difficulties in emotion regulation and marital satisfaction. The research 2 studies the actor effect and partner effect of difficulties in emotion regulation over the communication.
To verify the subjects above, 578 couples in Seoul, Gyeong-gi and Muju province were given the questionnaire, and 294 couple's result was used for the data analysis eventually.
To verify the mediating effect of research 1, the structural equation modeling was used. As a result, it was proven that communication did mediate the difficulties in emotion regulation and marital satisfaction.
For the analysis of research 2, the APIM method, which is dyadic data analysis, and structural equation modeling was used. The outcome was that, there's no difference in terms of the size of actor effect and partner effect of the difficulties in emotion regulation. There is, however, difference between actor effect and partner effect of the difficulties in emotion regulation from the husband side.
Through this study, the role of the emotion regulation for the marital satisfaction of a married couple was confirmed. There is also counseling's meaning that the limitation of the traditional method of education of communication or problem-solving technique used by marital satisfaction promotion program can be supplemented because it was proven that a wife is affected by the difficulties in emotion regulation of husband as much as her own.
