      • Candidate narrowing for Face Identification Using Facial Expression

        Recently, face authentication becomes a hot topic not only in security system but also in home entertainment field. Since face identification is of non-contact and little psychological resistance one, it can be easily accept by user side. And also we know it is difficult to perform a perfect authentication with and only with a face, so in fact the identification is combined with other authentication method (Ex. password, finger print, voice, etc.), this makes a complex algorithm, and different sensor will increase the cost. So use one CCD camera do candidate narrowing and identification is a good idea. On the other hand, to read the feelings state of human being, the computer recognition of facial expression is researched from long before, and also many fruitful results were achieved. However, the relation between face identification and expression recognition has been hardly examined up to now though these two researches use the same objects(face). This paper has aimed to unite these two researches, and to find a new approach to narrow candidate for face identification.

      • Compatible Image Compression

        New image compression method is presented. The presented system is compatible with JPEG one. Compatibility is one of the most important factors for image compression, because JPEG system is utilized for almost every imaging devices and mobiles, etc. First the image is divided into 4 small similar images and one of the 4 images is compressed and coded by using JPEG system. At the receiver side the left 3 images are reconstructed by an interpolation technique. The employed interpolation method is cubic convolution one for image-nonedge area. A directional optimal estimator is used to reconstruct the pixel on the image edge area. Different optimal coefficients of the estimator are calculated for vertical, horizontal and diagonal image edge direction. Simulation example shows that the presented method gives us better image quality than other interpolation methods do.

        Mechanism of a Torrential Rainstorm That Occurred to the West of a Mei-yu Frontal Low

        Heavy rainfall usually occurs to the southeast of a Mei-yu frontal low. The rainstorms appeared to the west of Mei-yu frontal lows are difficult to forecast because their formation mechanisms are not well understood. An extreme rainfall event occurred to the west of a Mei-yu frontal low in Anqing City, Anhui Province, China, on 13 July 2010, which was not well predicted. Based on observation data, NCEP/NCAR reanalysis data and high-resolution numerical simulation output, the mechanisms of this severe rainstorm are analyzed in this paper. The results indicate that the eastward moving meso-α-scale low was a key synoptic system that resulted in the formation of the mesoscale convective system causing the rainstorm. As the low moved eastward and strengthened, the increasing northerly flow and the southerly warm/moist flow formed an eastwest elongated convergence line (frontal zone) at the west part of the low. While the low moved to the coastal region, its intensity was enhanced and its moving speed was reduced. As a result, the convergence line and the frontal zone remained quasi-stationary near Anqing. Furthermore, Anqing is located in a valley between the Dabie and Wannan Mountains; the northerly winds flowed around Dabie Mountains and entered the valley, leading to an intense local convergence and frontogenesis near Anqing. Under the unstable environments with sufficient water vapor, the local intense frontogenesis along with intense convergence triggered and maintained the quasi-stationary mesoscale convective system that resulted in the record-breaking rainfall in Anqing.

        RhoGDI2 induced malignant phenotypes of pancreatic cancer cells via regulating Snail expression

        Background: Rho GDP dissociation inhibitor 2 (RhoGDI2) has been shown to contribute to the aggressive phenotypes of human cancers, such as tumor metastasis and chemoresistance. Objective: This study aimed to assess the effects of RhoGDI2 on tumor progression and chemoresistance in pancreatic cancer cells. Methods: The expression of RhoGDI2 in pancreatic cancer cells was detected by Western blot analysis. Gain-of-function and loss-of-function approaches were done to examine the malignant phenotypes of the RhoGDI2-expressing or RhoGDI2-depleting cells. The correlation between RhoGDI2 and Snail was also analyzed. Results: Differential expression of RhoGDI2 protein in pancreatic cancer cell lines was identified. Gain-of-function and loss-of-function experiments showed that RhoGDI2 induced the malignant phenotypes of pancreatic cancer cells, including proliferation, migration, invasion, and gemcitabine (GEM) chemoresistance. The upregulation of RhoGDI2 stimulated the expression of Snail, resulting in the altered expression of epithelial marker E-cadherin and mesenchymal marker Vimentin, which were characteristics of the tumorigenic activity of epithelial-mesenchymal transition. The expression of RhoGDI2 and Snail was upregulated in clinical tumor samples, and higher expression of RhoGDI2 or Snail was significantly associated with poor patient survival in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). Conclusion: The findings indicated that RhoGDI2 promoted GEM resistance and tumor progression in pancreatic cancer and that RhoGDI2 might be a potential therapeutic target in patients with PDAC.

        Biodegrading of Pyrene by a Newly Isolated Pseudomonas putida PL2

        Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are a class of persistent organic compounds derived from natural sources and anthropogenic processes, which have been recommended as priority pollutants. Degradation of PAHs in the environment is becoming more necessary and urgent. In the current study, strain PL2, which is capable of growing aerobically on pyrene (PYR) as the sole carbon source, was isolated from hydrocarbons-contaminated soil and then identified as Pseudomonas putida by morphological and physiological characteristics as well as 16S rDNA sequence. The strain PL2 was able to degrade 50.0%of the pyrene at 28°C within 6 days in the presence of 50mg/L pyrene, while the strain PL2 degraded 50.0% of the pyrene within 2 days when a solution of 50 mg/L pyrene and 50 mg/L phenanthrene was used. In addition, phenanthrene was shown to increase the biodegradation efficiency of pyrene by the strain PL2. The order of degradation by the strain PL2 was pH 6.0 > pH 7.0 > pH 5.0 > pH 8.0. The degradation rate of PYR in the soil by the strain PL2reached 70.0% at the 10^th day. The dynamics of PYR degradation in soil by PL2 was fit to the first order model and the strain PL2 was shown to efficiently degrade PYR in soil. The current study showed that P. putida PL2 was a novel bacterium that could degrade pyrene and holds great promise for use in PAHs bioremediation in soil.

      • Contrastive Analysis on Network Performance of Information System

        In order to explore how to design an information system with ideal network property under the background of information era, contrastive analysis is conducted in this paper on the performances of “tree” network and fully connected network. The mathematical models of “tree” information system and fully connected network are established, of which the network performance indicators are calculated by complex network theory and analyzed by comparison. As only partial indicators of both networks are favorable, the plan is proposed that information system is established through optimization based on both of the two network structures. The new algorithm to build information system network model proposed in this paper and the plan that information system is established are of significant reference value for relevant fields.

        Facile Synthesis of Ag/ZnO Hollow Microspheres with Enhanced Photocatalytic Performance under Simulated Sunlight Irradiation

        Water pollution caused by intensive use of organic dyes has become an increasingly serious problem recently. Green and efficient processes are desperately needed to remove persistent organic pollutants from waste waters. Herein, Ag nanoparticles loaded ZnO hollow microspheres were synthesized through a simple solvothermal method and used as a photocatalyst for dye degradation. The calculated band gap of Ag/ZnO — 5% (2.97 eV) is much narrower than that of pure ZnO (3.37 eV). The obtained Ag/ZnO samples show a remarkable photocatalytic activity in photodegradation of Rhodamine B (RhB) under simulated sunlight irradiation. The degradation efficiency of RhB for Ag/ZnO — 5% is 98.8% after 100 min irradiation while only 52.8% degradation rate is obtained over pure ZnO. The enhancement is attributed to the exposed active ZnO (001) plane and the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) effect of Ag nanoparticles that promote the separation of photogeneated electrons and holes.

        Pretreatments of Broussonetia papyrifera: in vitro assessment on gas and methane production, fermentation characteristic, and methanogenic archaea profile

        Objective: The present study was conducted to examine the gas production, fermentation characteristics, nutrient degradation, and methanogenic community composition of a rumen fluid culture with Broussonetia papyrifera (B. papyrifera) subjected to ensiling or steam explosion (SE) pretreatment. Methods: Fresh B. papyrifera was collected and pretreated by ensiling or SE, which was then fermented with ruminal fluids as ensiled B. papyrifera group, steam-exploded B. papyrifera group, and untreated B. papyrifera group. The gas and methane production, fermentation characteristics, nutrient degradation, and methanogenic community were determined during the fermentation. Results: Cumulative methane production was significantly improved with SE pretreatment compared with ensiled or untreated biomass accompanied with more volatile fatty acids production. After 72 h incubation, SE and ensiling pretreatments decreased the acid detergent fiber contents by 39.4% and 22.9%, and neutral detergent fiber contents by 10.6% and 47.2%, respectively. Changes of methanogenic diversity and abundance of methanogenic archaea corresponded to the variations in fermentation pattern and methane production. Conclusion: Compared with ensiling pretreatment, SE can be a promising technique for the efficient utilization of B. papyrifera, which would contribute to sustainable livestock production systems.       • The Improvement of Mean-Shift Algorithm in Target Tracking

        The bandwidth of kernel function is invariance in Mean-Shift tracking process which led to the problem of actual process of tracking failure. To solve this question a method is proposed to combine object contour, RGB color histogram and Mean-Shift tracking algorithm. In each frame the contour and color feature of target object are extracted to as a model. Meanwhile the size of contour is used as the bandwidth for kernel function in the next frame. Based on this Method the accuracy of Mean-Shift tracking is improved and the error of Mean-Shift tracking is reduced.
