        A Case Study: Effects of Foot Reflexotherapy in an Infant with Sensorineural Hearing Loss

        Sensoryneuronal hearing loss (SNHL) is one type of hearing impairment. The incidence of hearing loss (HL) is 1e3 per 1000 births. Complementary therapies may be effective in addressing the maladies of infants with HL. The aim of this study was to assess the efficacy of foot reflexotherapy in an infant with SNHL. The patient was a 3-month-old infant with SNHL. Pretest and post-test for HL were conducted using an audiologic method (auditory brainstem responses) combined with behavioral audiometry. The subject was treated with foot reflexotherapy for 30 min per session four times per week for a period of 24 weeks. Foot reflexotherapy was effective in auditory recuperation of an infant with SNHL. The results of this novel study suggest that foot reflexotherapy can be an effective complementary treatment for infants with SNHL, especially for those 3 to 9 months of age.

        Charge separation properties of (BiO)2CO3/BiOI heterostructures with enhanced solar-driven photocatalytic activity

        (BiO)2CO3/BiOI heterojunctions were prepared in-situ by a pore impregnating method using HI aqueous solution. The specific surface area, structure, morphology, and charge separation properties of the heterostructures prepared were characterized by BrunauereEmmetteTeller (BET) method, X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and surface photovoltage (SPV) spectroscopy, respectively. The active species were investigated using scavengers. The photocatalytic activities of (BiO)2CO3/BiOI heterojunctions towards discoloration of rhodamine B (RhB) under simulated sun light irradiation were evaluated. Benefiting from enhanced charge separation efficiency, the composite photocatalysts exhibit higher photocatalytic performance than the pure BiOI. Finally, the possible reason was discussed.

        진의 宗室은 한가지 특별한 그룹이며, 또한 특권계급이다. 그들의 존재는 고립적인 것이 아니라, 진 사회의 중요하고도 유기인 구성부분이다. 본 논문은 진의 宗室이 都元帥 府、 元帥府、 樞密院以及三省(주요로 尙書省)六部의 책임정황을 조사하고, 宗室이 행정, 군사 및 監察기관에서의 책임정황을 조사했다. 진초 국가의 최고행정기관이며 국가의 중요한 정책을 제정하는 기관인 勃極烈은 宗室의 손에 쥐고 있었다. 勃極烈을 책임질 수 있는 사람은 宗室회윈이자 宗室近屬다. 진의 職元帥府、 樞密院을 책임진 인수는 175명인데, 그중 宗室인이 48명이다. 宗室회윈은 진의 군사기관의 책임정황에서 중요한 자리를 차지하고 있다. 이것은 송나라와 다르다. 진은 宗室을 위주로 領軍之官일뿐만아니라 권세가 높은 관원이다. 진의 중앙기관 중 宗室에 대한 임용정황에서 변화규칙을 볼 수 있는데, 重用정황이 점점 적어지고 있다. 海陵朝부터 중앙 중요기관을 책임지는 宗室 책임자가 급속히 적어졌고, 世宗시기에 와서 조금 상승하였으나 눈에 뛰지 않았다. 章宗、 宣宗、 衛紹王時期에 와서 宗室 임용은 또 다시 적어졌다. 진후기 중 앙 중요 한 기관 중 宗室임용은 매우 적다. 衛紹王、 宣宗、 哀宗朝의 六部尙書에서는宗 室의 그림자도 찾아보기 힘들다. 진의 宗室멸망은 진후기 宗室임용의 축소와 宗室 세력이 약화되었기 때문이다. 진은 송나라와 다르다. 宗室이 책임지는 관직은 권력이 높다. 예를 들면 尙書省의 최고장관인 左丞相은 百官의 首이고, 자리가 높으며 권력이 높다. 『金史』에 의하면, 29명의 元左丞相 중 17명이 宗室이다. 이외에 진전기 중앙 중요기관의 임용은 기본상 宗室近支이고, 海陵이후는 宗室疏屬이 중요한 관직을 많이 맡았고, 章宗 이후의 임용은 기본상 宗室회원의 疏屬이다. 御史台에 임용된宗室의 비율은 높지 않지만 한인의 비율은 제일 높다. 이는 진의 통치자가 외족 중 우수한 사람을 이용하여 百官을 유효적으로 관리하기 위해서다. In Chin Dynasty the royal clan was a special group and a privileged class which attracts much attention. It is not an isolated presence but an important and organic integral part of Chin’s society. In this paper, the serving situation for royals in the institution of administration, military affairs and supervisal is studied. In the early stage of Chin Dynasty, for BoJiLie which behaved as the tiptop administration of state and the administration for important state policies, it was in the charge of the royal clan. Those people who served BoJiLie were not only royal clan but also mostly close relatives of the rulers. In Chin Dynasty among the 175 officers in Yuanshuaifu and Shumiyuan (institutions of military affairs), 48 officers were from royal clan. In a word, in the important martial administrations in Chin Dynasty officers from royal clan were dominant (this was not the case in Song Dynasty). In fact, in Chin Dynasty royal clan were always selected as the captains of armies and they were all in heavy power. However, the number of royal clan served in Chin Dynasty’s central institution had a trend of decrease. Ever since Hailing period the number decreased severely; in the period of Shizong the number increased a little but not too much; when time came to Zhangzong, Xuanzong and Weishaowang the number kept decreasing. In the later stage of Chin Dynasty, there were very few royals in the important central institutions. Furthermore, royal clans even could not be found to be LiuBuShangShu (important officials in administration institution) in Weishaowang, Xuanzong and Aizong period. To a certain extent, the downfall of Chin Dynasty should be attributed to less and less royal officials in central institutions. Different from those in Song Dynasty, the official titles for Royal clan in Chin Dynasty were generally for real power. For example, the title of Zuochengxiang is the tiptop official in Shangshusheng and the highest leadership of all the officials. According to JINSHI, among those 29 Zuochengxiangs recorded, 17 of them were royal clan. In addition, in the prophase of Chin Dynasty in the central institution there were mainly the next of kin royals; after Hailing period many distant relative royals joined; while after Zhangzong period royal clan in central institution were mainly distant relative ones. However, the proportion of royal clan in YuShiTai was not high, and the highest proportion was for officials of Han. This mainly resulted from the fact that the rulers hoped to use honest officials of Han to implement effective supervision on the officials.

        Energy efficiency is one of the primary performance parametersin wireless sensor network (WSN). The data collected by neighboring nodesin the high density WSN tend to have a high correlation which isdirectly transmitted to the sink node (DGN) will seriously reduce the energy efficiency of wireless sensor networks.For improving the energy efficiency of high node density WSN, We introduce distributed source coding (DSC) which can compress the high correlation source data into WSNbased on virtual MIMO. In the simulationresults indicate thatDSC can effectively reduce the energy consumption in data transmission and improve the energy efficiencyof the whole WSN.

        Genipin-Crosslinked, Immunogen-Reduced Decellularized Porcine Liver Scaffold for Bioengineered Hepatic Tissue

        Liver disease affects millions of patients each year worldwide. Decellularized biologic matrices are plausible biomedical materials for bioengineered replacement hepatic tissue. However, one of the concerns for its safe medical application is the lack of objective assessment of the immunogen within the materials and in vivo immune responses to the matrices. The purpose of this study was to produce immunogen- reduced and biocompatible matrices from porcine liver. Whole porcine livers were perfusion decellularized and cross-linked with glutaraldehyde (GA) or genipin (GP). Proteins were extracted, and the migratory response of human leukocytes toward protein extracts was examined using an in vitro migration chamber. In addition, biopsy specimens of decellularized scaffolds were implanted subcutaneously into rodents to investigate scaffold immunogenicity. Histological staining confirmed cellular clearance from pig livers, with removal of nuclei and cytoskeletal components and widespread preservation of structural extracellular molecules. Polymerase chain reaction analysis showed that galactose-alpha-1,3-galactose-beta-1,4-N-acetylglucosamine (1,3 gal), swine leukocyte antigen, and porcine endogenous retrovirus were completely removed in the matrices. Decellularization significantly reduced the migration of monocytes compared with native porcine tissue. Although the proportion of transmigrating lymphocytes was much lower, repeating the cross-linking procedure reduced the migratory response. After implantation for 4 weeks, the decellularized and native samples were degraded, and the GA-treated group demonstrated a severe inflammatory reaction; however, minimal inflammatory cell infiltration was seen in the GPtreated group during the 8-week investigation period. In conclusion, our study provided evidence that GP crosslinking could significantly reduce the immunogenicity of decellularized liver biomaterials.

        CircBLNK regulates tumor proliferation and apoptosis by miR-578/ING5 axis in non-small cell lung cancer

        Background Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is one of most threatening malignancies with a high morbidity and mortality that threaten human health and life. Objective This study aimed to investigate the role of circBLNK in NSCLC and reveal the regulation mechanism of circBLNK in NSCLC. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction ( qRT-PCR) was performed to determine the levels of circBLNK, miR-578 and inhibitor of growth 5 (ING5) mRNA. Cell proliferation activity was assessed by 3-(4,5-dimethyl-2-thiazolyl)- 2,5-diphenyl-2-H-tetrazolium bromide (MTT), 5-ethynyl-2’-deoxyuridine (EdU) staining and colony formation assays. Flow cytometry was carried out to examine cell cycle and cell apoptosis. The dual-luciferase reporter assay was used to validate the interaction between miR-578 and circBLNK or ING5. Xenograft tumor experiment was performed to uncover the function of circBLNK in vivo. Results CircBLNK was notably down-regulated in NSCLC tissues and cells. Overexpression of circBLNK suppressed the proliferation and accelerated the apoptosis of NSCLC cells in vitro . CircBLNK targeted miR-578, and circBLNK exerted its biological function in NSCLC cells through sponging miR-578. ING5 was verifi ed as a target of miR-578, and circBLNK increased the abundance of ING5 through targeting miR-578 in NSCLC cells. ING5 interference could partly reverse the biological eff ects of NSCLC cells mediated by circBLNK overexpression. CircBLNK overexpression repressed NSCLC tumor growth in vivo. Conclusion CircBLNK functioned as a tumor suppressor in NSCLC to suppress the proliferation and cell cycle and promote cell apoptosis of NSCLC cells through miR-578/ING5 axis.

        Phase II Trial of Epigallocatechin-3-Gallate in Acute Radiation-Induced Esophagitis for Esophagus Cancer

        Acute radiation-induced esophagitis (ARIE) is among the most serious form of toxicities associated with definitive radiotherapy or chemoradiotherapy used for treatment of patients with esophageal cancer. Our preliminary phase I and II trials of lung cancer patients who received radiotherapy indicated epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) as a promising therapeutic option against ARIE. Therefore, we conducted a prospective phase II study to validate the efficacy and safety of EGCG in the treatment of ARIE. The patients who received chemoradiotherapy or definitive radiotherapy for treatment of esophageal cancer in the Shandong Cancer Hospital and Institute in China were enrolled for the present study. EGCG (440 μM) was administered with first onset of ARIE and then at weeks after final radiotherapy. The patients were monitored every week for dysphagia, Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG) score, and esophagitis-related pain. Moreover, tumor response and the effect on survival following the treatment were also evaluated. Comparison of the RTOG score in the first, second, third, fourth, fifth, and even sixth week after EGCG prescription and the first and second week after radiotherapy with baseline indicates a significant reduction. The tumor response rate was 86.3%. The overall survival rate in 1, 2, and 3 years was found to be 74.5%, 58%, and 40.5%. Oral administration of EGCG solution seems to be feasible for treating ARIE in patients with esophageal cancer who receive radiation therapy. EGCG might be an ARIE-reliever without compromising the efficacy of radiation therapy. A randomized study with a control group is needed for further evaluation.

        Cascade hydrogenation of n-C16 to produce jet fuel over tandem catalysts of modified ZSM-22

        ZSM-22 with one-dimensional straight channels and suitable acid properties is widely applied in theselective hydrocracking of long-chain alkanes to produce middle distillate. In this work, the tandem catalystswith two kinds of modified ZSM-22 were employed in series to optimize the distribution of theproduct in the hydrotreatment of n-C16 to produce jet fuel. The yield of linear alkanes with high carbonnumbers was enhanced over the upstream catalyst bed of Pt/L-HZSM-22 with shielded external acid siteswhile the isomerization with less further cracking occurred over the downstream catalyst bed of Pt/Me-HZSM-22 with introduced mesopores. The tandem catalysts can combine the ability of Pt/L-HZSM-22 toproduce heavy n-alkanes and the stronger isomerization performance of Pt/Me-HZSM-22. The highestyield of jet fuel (23 wt.%) can be obtained over the tandem catalysts instead of any individual catalyst. The strategy of the tandem zeolite has been initially verified and proposed to broaden the investigationperspectives of the oil refinery.

        Tuber borchii Shapes the Ectomycorrhizosphere Microbial Communities of Corylus avellana

        In this study, eight-month-old ectomycorrhizae of Tuber borchii with Corylus avellana were synthesized to explore the influence of T. borchii colonization on the soil properties and the microbial communities associated with C. avellana during the early symbiotic stage. The results showed that the bacterial richness and diversity in the ectomycorrhizae were significantly higher than those in the control roots, whereas the fungal diversity was not changed in response to T. borchii colonization. Tuber was the dominant taxon (82.97%) in ectomycorrhizae. Some pathogenic fungi, including Ilyonectria and Podospora, and other competitive mycorrhizal fungi, such as Hymenochaete, had significantly lower abundance in the T. borchii inoculation treatment. It was found that the ectomycorrhizae of C. avellana contained some more abundant bacterial genera (e.g., Rhizobium, Pedomicrobium, Ilumatobacter, Streptomyces, and Geobacillus) and fungal genera (e.g., Trechispora and Humicola) than the control roots. The properties of rhizosphere soils were also changed by T. borchii colonization, like available nitrogen, available phosphorus and exchangeable magnesium, which indicated a feedback effect of mycorrhizal synthesis on soil properties. Overall, this work highlighted the interactions between the symbionts and the microbes present in the host, which shed light on our understanding of the ecological functions of T. borchii and facilitate its commercial cultivation.
