        Optimisation of a Slope-Stabilisation System Combining Gabion-Faced Geogrid-Reinforced Retaining Wall with Embedded Piles

        Slope instability is a common geotechnical issue in South Gippsland, Victoria, Australia. The network of rural roads constructed and maintained by the local authority are greatly affected by the instability. An integrated slope-stabilisation system that combines two well-developed slope stabilisation methods has been used widely in this district. These two methods are gabion-faced geogrid-reinforced retaining wall and pile retaining structures. These two methods are connected by a steel rail that is welded at the top of the piles to buttress the lowest row of the gabion basket wall. In order to reflect the site conditions accurately, a three-dimensional non-linear finite element approach is adopted in this study. The elastic-perfectly plastic constitutive model with the Mohr-Coulomb yield criterion is used to describe the behaviour of the soil and the gabion basket. With the assistance of the shear strength reduction technique, the effectiveness of the integrated system is demonstrated through the comparison of the representative indicators of the slope stability among various slope configurations. A series of parametric studies related to the ratio of the embedded length of geogrid to the height of the slope, the ratio of the embedded length of the pile to the thickness of the unstable soil layer, and the ratio of the spacing to the diameter of the pile have also been conducted for the purpose of optimising this slope stabilisation infrastructure. The results from the parametric studies indicate that the optimised and improved integrated infrastructure can stabilise the road and slope economically without the loss of the safety margin.

        Research on the characteristics of CO2 heat pump integrated with thermal energy storage for space heating

        The CO 2 air source heat pump (ASHP) has been widely used for space heating and domestic hot water because of its energy saving, high efficiency and environmental protection. However, when used for space heating, the high return water temperature causes higher throttle loss, which results in the energy efficiency of the system obviously decreasing. To solve this problem, a CO 2 ASHP integrated with thermal energy storage (TES) is proposed in this paper. A simulation model of the system was established by TRNSYS software, and the operating characters of the studied system were investigated under the typical daily operating conditions. Additionally, its performance was compared with the benchmark system. This research shows that the average unit COP of the studied system was increased by 14.1 % compared with the benchmark system. It indicates that TES is beneficial for promoting CO 2heat pump application in cold areas.

        Recyclable One-Step Extraction and Characterization of Intact Melanin from Alpaca Fibers

        Melanin, a ubiquitous natural pigment, has attracted much attention in energy and nanotechnology areas in recent years. With the increasing demand for high-quality melanin materials and sustainable experimental environment, this study was conducted to achieve melanin with intact structure through recyclable extraction method using ionic liquid (IL). Melanin extracted from base dissolution and acid isolation (BA) method and acid hydrolysis (AH) method were also used for comparison. SEM and 13C-NMR characterizations indicated that IL treatment has retained the original structure of melanin while other methods caused particle damage to various degrees. In addition, the recycled IL (up to five times) showed good reproducibility, and the performance of extracted melanin at the 5th cycle was well-maintained.

        Transcriptomic analysis of developing embryos of apricot (Prunus armeniaca L.)

        Apricot (Prunus armeniaca L.) is an important, nutritionally valuable agricultural crop. A scarcity of transcriptomic and genomic data hinders progress toward understanding the molecular events of apricot embryogenesis, which is the primary determinant of fruit yield and kernel quality. In this study, three cDNA libraries were sequenced using an Illumina/Solexa platform. We obtained 35,928,496, 40,656,940, and 35,970,214 clean reads from endosperm formation (LT-A), embryo development (LT-B), and mature embryo (LT-C) cDNA libraries, respectively. De novo assembly of cDNA sequence data generated 35,614 unigenes with an average length of 973 bp. A total of 29,971 unigenes were matched in Nr, Nt, Swiss-Prot, KEGG, GO, and COG databases. The top matching species in the Nr database was P. persica (88.3% of matched Nr database accessions). A total of 8,327 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were detected between LT-A and LT-B, of which 3,663 were upregulated and 4,664 were downregulated. Between LT-B and LT-C, 12,673 DEGs were detected, while 13,892 DEGs were uncovered between LT-A and LT-C. This work is the first reported application of next-generation sequencing techniques for transcriptome analysis of apricot embryo development. Besides providing valuable information on apricot embryo development, the comprehensive set of transcript sequences generated in this study may serve as additional molecular resources for the development of apricot functional genomics.

        Phenylpropanoid metabolism enzyme activities and gene expression in postharvest melons inoculated with Alternaria alternata

        This study explored the mechanism of melon resistance to Alternaria alternata (A. alternata) infection in Jiashi and 86-1 melons. Melons were inoculated with A.alternata and the change in lesion diameter was measured. The changes in cinnamic acid-4-hydroxylase (C4H), phenylalanine ammonia lyase (PAL), and 4-coumaric acid coenzyme A ligase (4CL) activity and gene expression were studied in the pericarp tissues of Jiashi and 86-1 melons. The lesion diameter was smaller in Jiashi melon than in 86-1 melon, and the pericarp lesions were smaller than pulp lesions, indicating that Jiashi melon can resist A. alternata infection better than 86-1 melon. After inoculation with A. alternata, the C4H, PAL, and 4CL activities of Jiashi and 86-1 melons peaked in the middle and late storage period, and the peak was higher in Jiashi melons. The gene expression changes were consistent with the enzyme activity. The C4H, PAL, and 4CL gene expression was significantly higher in Jiashi melon pericarp than in 86-1 melon, and the C4H, PAL, and 4CL activities in Jiashi melon were positively correlated with their gene expression, confirming the role of phenylpropanoid metabolism enzymes in resistance to A. alternata.

        With the development of the times, the library is becoming a comprehensive service center, it has various functions which includes integrating exhibition, academic exchange, specification research, study and others. At the same time, the traditional mode of book retrieval is being replaced by the use of information technology. During promoted the change of library reading space period, the design model of reading space is also be influenced. Modern library space design focus more on the user experience and that is still valued user-oriented to build a warm, convenient reading and viewing environment. The analysis is carried out by means of 2 spatial cases. this study are: A(Hyundai Card Music Library),B(Hyundai Card Cooking Library). Through the case, we have drawn three conclusions. First, emotional design of space from four library by three aspects including experience, interaction, continuity. It deeper into explore the customer-centric sensual design, which provide a good reference for future library design. Second, TThe library`s spatial function is designed from the user`s point of view, which combines the space and the sensory experience to make the library"s perceptual effect become larger.

        Fault-tolerant Control Based on Fixed-time Observer for a 3-DOF Helicopter System

        In this paper, a fault-tolerant control (FTC) scheme is presented to counteract actuator faults, model uncertainties and external disturbances for a class of three degrees of freedom (3-DOF) helicopter. A fixed-time observer is introduced to estimate composite disturbances which results in a better tracking performance compared with other sliding mode observers (SMO). Finally, a novel control strategy is proposed via back-stepping design technique to guarantee the stability of closed-loop nonlinear system. Experimental results are given to show the effectiveness and advantages of the proposed method.

        Genipin-Crosslinked, Immunogen-Reduced Decellularized Porcine Liver Scaffold for Bioengineered Hepatic Tissue

        Liver disease affects millions of patients each year worldwide. Decellularized biologic matrices are plausible biomedical materials for bioengineered replacement hepatic tissue. However, one of the concerns for its safe medical application is the lack of objective assessment of the immunogen within the materials and in vivo immune responses to the matrices. The purpose of this study was to produce immunogen- reduced and biocompatible matrices from porcine liver. Whole porcine livers were perfusion decellularized and cross-linked with glutaraldehyde (GA) or genipin (GP). Proteins were extracted, and the migratory response of human leukocytes toward protein extracts was examined using an in vitro migration chamber. In addition, biopsy specimens of decellularized scaffolds were implanted subcutaneously into rodents to investigate scaffold immunogenicity. Histological staining confirmed cellular clearance from pig livers, with removal of nuclei and cytoskeletal components and widespread preservation of structural extracellular molecules. Polymerase chain reaction analysis showed that galactose-alpha-1,3-galactose-beta-1,4-N-acetylglucosamine (1,3 gal), swine leukocyte antigen, and porcine endogenous retrovirus were completely removed in the matrices. Decellularization significantly reduced the migration of monocytes compared with native porcine tissue. Although the proportion of transmigrating lymphocytes was much lower, repeating the cross-linking procedure reduced the migratory response. After implantation for 4 weeks, the decellularized and native samples were degraded, and the GA-treated group demonstrated a severe inflammatory reaction; however, minimal inflammatory cell infiltration was seen in the GPtreated group during the 8-week investigation period. In conclusion, our study provided evidence that GP crosslinking could significantly reduce the immunogenicity of decellularized liver biomaterials.

      • Decision Making Based on Data Mining for Traditional Sports Personnel Training Scheme

        The percent of examinees’ first applications for a university can reflect the scientific research level of this university, so various universities start to research how to improve the percent of examinees’ first applications under the condition of not influencing the enrollment quality. For such research, C4.5 decision tree algorithm is applied to the postgraduate enrollment of a certain university. Specifically, examinees’ information is processed to select decision attributes and establish the decision tree so as to obtain the relation among examinees’ first applications, native place information, total points of initial examination and category of graduation universities from the rules extracted thereby. The mining result shows that this algorithm can correctly classify the graduation universities and assist the enrolling personnel to more effectively stipulate the enrollment guide for the targeted enrollment propaganda, thus to improve the percent of examinees’ first applications.

        One-pot synthesis of fluorescent nitrogen-doped graphene quantum dots for portable detection of iron ion

        Nitrogen-doped graphene quantum dots (N-GQD) were synthesized by direct thermal decomposition of ammonium citrate tribasic. With the increment of torrefaction temperature, the average size of N-GQD was increased from 2.56 to 3.73 nm. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis (XPS) proved the successful doping of nitrogen atoms. Besides, the N-GQDs showed blue fluorescence which was quenched by Fe3+ ions, and the fluorescence intensity of N-GQDs decayed exponentially. Accordingly, the same quenching effect was observed on a test paper prepared by soaking paper in N-GQDs dispersion. The quenching mechanism was due to electron transfer between Fe3+ and functional groups on the surface of N-GQDs which could be confirmed by XPS and diameter growth. Therefore, through this simple method, N-GQDs with high blue fluorescence and high production yield (64%) can be prepared, which provided a new strategy for monitoring and collecting Fe3+ in environmental water.
