        Background: Superior colliculus is a part of midbrain, and participates in the visual reflexes, It receives afferent fibers from optic nerve, visual cortex, and spinotectal tract. After optic deprivation, the microscopic structure of the superior colliculus changed. Calcium-binding proteins (CBPs) Play an important role in the neuronal protection, differentiation and reorganization of the central nervous system, Objectives and Methods: The effects of neonatal retinal deafferentation on a CBPs, calbindm D-28k (CB), Parvalbumin (PB) and calretimn (CR), and the existence of colocalization between the CBPs were examined immunohistochemically in the rat superior colliculus. Results: On the experimental (contralateral to enucleation) side of superior colliculus, the number of CB-immunoreactive (IR) cells was reduced (77.4% compared to control), but not fibers. The number of PB-IR neurons and fibers was also reduced on the experimental side (88.5% compared to control), In the other hand, the CR-IR cells were dramatically increased (642% compared to control), but CR-IR fibers were markedly decreased on the experimental side. The colocalization between CB-CR and PV-CR was rarely observed in the superior colliculus Conclusion: These results suggest that the changes of retinotectal projection may alter the expressional pattern of CBPs in different manners; relatively stable in CB- and PV-IR neurons and plastic in CR-IR neurons.

        IMPROVED ALGORITHM BASED ON AEKF FOR STATE OF CHARGE ESTIMATION OF LITHIUM-ION BATTERY

        State of charge (SOC) is one of the most significant parameters in the battery management system (BMS). Accurate estimate of the SOC can prevent the battery overcharge and over-discharge, which can effectively increase the life of the Lithium-ion battery and improve the safety of electric vehicle. In this paper, an improved second-order equivalent model is established. The improved model distinguishes the direction of charge and discharge for the resistance and capacitance parameters. To improve the estimation accuracy of SOC, this paper proposes an improved Adaptive Extended Kalman Filter by introducing an iterative method into the AEKF algorithm. The improved algorithm mainly uses the measured voltage data to adjust the covariance matrix P multiple times in one calculation step to reduce the error in the linearization process. The dynamic stress test (DST) and urban dynamometer driving schedule (UDDS) are applied to verify the validity and accuracy of the improved algorithm. The experimental results show that the algorithm proposed in this paper has faster convergence and more accurate compared with AEKF algorithms.

        Synergistic Effects of Leflunomide and Benazepril in Streptozotocin-Induced Diabetic Nephropathy

        <P>Abstract</P><P><B><I>Background:</I></B> Leflunomide (LEF) and benazepril have renoprotective effects on diabetic nephropathy (DN) through their anti-inflammatory and anti-fibrotic activities. This study investigated whether combined treatment using LEF and benazepril affords superior protection compared with the respective monotherapies. <B><I>Methods:</I></B> Diabetes was induced with streptozotocin (STZ, 65 mg/kg) by intraperitoneal injection in male Wistar rats. Two weeks after STZ injection, diabetic rats were treated daily for 12 weeks with LEF (10 mg/kg), benazepril (10 mg/kg), or a combination of both. Basic parameters (body weight, fasting blood glucose level, and 24 h urinary protein excretion), histopathology, inflammatory [inflammatory cell infiltration (ED-1), monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1), and Toll-like receptor-2 (TLR-2)] and glomerulosclerotic factors [transforming growth factor-β<SUB>1</SUB> (TGF-β<SUB>1</SUB>) and connective tissue growth factor (CTGF)], and oxidative stress (8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine, 8-OHdG) were studied. <B><I>Results:</I></B> Benazepril or LEF treatment significantly prevented body weight loss and 24 h urinary protein excretion induced by diabetes; combined treatment with LEF and benazepril further improved these parameters compared with giving each drug alone (all p < 0.01). Increased expression of inflammatory (MCP-1 and TLR-2) and glomerulosclerotic (TGF-β<SUB>1</SUB> and CTGF) factors in diabetic rat kidney was reduced by treatment with either LEF or benazepril and was further reduced by the combined administration of the two drugs (p < 0.01). These effects were accompanied by suppression of urinary 8-OHdG excretion. There was no significant between-group difference in blood glucose level. <B><I>Conclusions:</I></B> LEF treatment lessens DN, and combined treatment with LEF and benazepril provides synergistic effects in preventing DN.</P><P>© 2014 S.       • Generation of Neuronal-Like Cells from Umbilical Cord Blood-Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells of a RFP-Transgenic Cloned Cat

        <P>Umbilical cord blood (UCB)-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are multipotent adult stem cells, which can differentiation into cells of connective tissue and neural lineages. This study investigated the potential for neuronal differentiation of red fluorescent protein (RFP)-transgenic cat UCB-derived MSCs. The cells were cultured in pre-induction medium for 24 hr and in neuronal-induction medium for 72 hr. Immunofluorescent staining showed that 6.85% of the total cells were β III-tubulin-positive, 3.37% were neurofilament light (NF-L)-positive and 7.04% were neurofilament medium (NF-M)-positive. A β III-tubulin band was detected by western blot analysis. Our results demonstrate that RFP-transgenic UCB-derived MSCs can be differentiated into neuronal cells <I>in vitro</I>. Thus, RFP-transgenic MSCs could provide alternative tracing material for stem cell transplantation.</P>

        건강노령화에 대한 진화론적 개념분석

        본 연구는 건강노령화의 정의, 속성, 선행요인, 영향요인, 결과, 의의 및 측정도구에 대해 상세히 분석함으로써 향후 건강노령화의 이론적 연구결과를 간호실천에 응용하는 등 프로그램 개발에 기초자료로 활용될 수 있도록 하기 위함이다. Rodgers의 진화론적 방법을 이용하였고 자료수집은 CNKI, WANFANG DATA, PubMed및Web of Science등 4개 국내외 데이터베이스를 통해 검색되었다. 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 건강노령화는 전 생명주기와 연관이 있으며, 다양한 분야의 협력이 필요하고 개인, 가족, 사회 등 삼요소가 평형을 이루는 상태이다. 건강노령화 개념분석결과는 노령화에 대한 이론연구와 건강노령화 실행에 실질적인 도움을 줄 수 있다고 사료된다. This study undertook a detailed analysis of the definition, attributes, preconditions, influencing factors, results, significance, and measurement tools of healthy aging for their eventual application as basic data for program development, such as applying the theoretical research results of healthy aging to nursing practice. Using Rodgers evolutionary method, data was procured from four domestic and international databases: CNKI, WANFANG DATA, PubMed, and Web of Science. The results show healthy aging is related to the entire life cycle, with various fields being intricately associated. Moreover, the three factors of individual, family, and society are in equilibrium. Results of this study indicate that the conceptual analysis of healthy aging helps in the in-depth study of aging and provides practical help in the implementation of healthy aging, starting with the concept.

      • Effects of Different Thawing Methods on Pork Loin Quality

        The proper harvester(Camp champion C 3000) equip condition to get under 5mm Kenaf(Hibiscus cannabinus L.) harvesting particle size were set the number of blade more than 4 and rotate over 100 rpm. The small size of harvesting particle could promote the fermentation of lactobacillus and it improved the exterior and chemical evaluation of kenaf silage. The fittest fermentation periods to sustain basic levels of kenaf silage quality was more than 40 days. To secure the most suitable stage for harvest, we analyzed yields, crude protein and total digestible nutrients contents along culture periods. At 120 days after seeding, kenaf yields approach 9,600 kg/10a and crude protein contents was 8.2% which belonged most preferable grade. also the total digestible nutrients reached 52.2%. In the process of kenaf fermentation, add molasses 0.5∼2.0% could strengthen the degradation of cellulose and elevate the preference of flavor. To select the best microbe for making kenaf silage, we applied the 4 kinds of lactobacillus which originated from Kimch and make an patent application by Jeonbuk ARES. As a result L. mesenteroides M-17 was sellected for enhancing the preference of flavor and sustaining the good grade silage quality. Adding L. mesenteroides M-17 in the process of fermentation could elevated the crude protein contents and get good grade of relative feed value.

      • Macrochanneled bioactive ceramic scaffolds in combination with collagen hydrogel: A new tool for bone tissue engineering

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>New tissue‐engineering tool for bone regeneration is described to facilitate homogeneous cell seeding and effective osteogenic development. Calcium phosphate (CaP) scaffolds with macrochanneled and well‐defined pore structure was developed, however, a large portion of the cells seeded directly within the scaffold easily penetrates without good adhesion to the scaffold surface. To overcome this, a method was exploited to dispense cells evenly throughout the CaP scaffold using collagen hydrogel. Rat bone marrow‐derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) were mixed within a neutralized collagen solution, which was then infiltrated into the macrochanneled pore space and gelled to result in macrochanneled bioceramic scaffold combined with MSCs–hydrogel. MSCs contained within the hydrogel‐CaP scaffolds were highly viable, with similar growth pattern to those in the collagen hydrogel. Cells seeded by this approach were initially almost double in number compared with those seeded directly onto the CaP scaffold and had an active proliferation more than 14 days. Assessments of the MSCs showed significantly higher alkaline phosphatase levels in the combined scaffold, which was accompanied by enhanced osteogenesis including the expression of genes [collagen type I, bone sialoprotein, and osteopontin (OPN)] and proteins (OPN and osteocalcin). Extracellular calcium was also elevated significantly in the combined scaffold compared to the CaP scaffold. In addition, mechanical strength of the constructs was improved significantly in the combined scaffold compared to the CaP scaffold. Based on these, the cell culturing and tissue engineering strategy within the macrochanneled bioactive ceramic scaffolds could be improved greatly by the combinatory approach of using collagen hydrogel. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.         Investigation into performance enhancements of Li–S batteries via oxygen-containing functional groups on activated multi-walled carbon nanotubes using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy

        It was demonstrated that the electrochemical performance enhancements in KOH-activated carbon materials should be mainly due to the created polar oxygen-containing functional groups (OFGs, such as such as C–O, C–– O, –OH, and O–C–– O), while the role of each OFGs on the electrochemical enhancements is still unclear. In this work, KOH activation treatments were systematically conducted on carbon nanotubes (CNTs) to explore the role of each OFG on the performance enhancements of Li–S batteries (LSBs). Results showed that the capacity of activated-CNT-sulfur (a-CNT-S) cathodes is 33% higher than that of the pristine CNT-S cathodes, and their rate capability and cycling stability are also enhanced. And the electrochemical analysis combining with Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy indicated that the formed C–O bonds are the real factor for the enhanced electrochemical performances of a-CNT-S cathodes. Furthermore, the optimal activation conditions on CNTbased cathodes for LSBs were optimized to be 10 min at 700 ℃.
