      • A Curve-Skeleton Extraction Algorithm based on Vector Fields for 3D Model Retrieval

        Sun Ting,Zhou Wen-Gang,Geng Guo-Huo 보안공학연구지원센터 2015 International Journal of Hybrid Information Techno Vol.8 No.9

Feature extraction is a key issue for 3d model retrieval. A novel architecture to extract the curve-skeleton of 3d model is introduced. The algorithm firstly calculates the 3D vector fields of models represented by discrete unit, and then extracts the hierarchical curve-skeleton based on topological features of the critical curve and critical points of the vector fields. The similarity among 3D curve-skeletons is measured by using an improved Earth Mover's Distance (EMD) algorithm. The curve-skeleton extracted with this novel algorithm can be used to categorize models and implement global matching and partial matching.

Effects of Dietary Zinc Level and an Inflammatory Challenge on Performance and Immune Response of Weanling Pigs

Sun, Guo-jun,Chen, Dai-wen,Zhang, Ke-ying,Yu, Bing Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2009 Animal Bioscience Vol.22 No.9

Two experiments were conducted to determine the effect of dietary zinc level on growth performance and immune function in normal (Experiment 1) and immunologically challenged (Experiment 2) weanling pigs. Treatments consisted of the following: i) a corn-soybean meal basal diet containing 36.75 mg/kg total Zn, ii) basal diet+60 mg/kg added Zn as $ZnSO_{4}$, iii) basal diet+120 mg/kg added Zn as $ZnSO_{4}$. Each diet was fed to six pens of four pigs per pen (Exp. 1) or six pens of three pigs per pen (Exp. 2). In Exp. 1, the dietary zinc level had no effect on average daily growth (ADG), average daily feed intake (ADFI), or feed conversion ratio (FCR). Concentrations of tissue and serum zinc were not affected. Peripheral blood lymphocyte proliferation (PBLP) was not affected by dietary treatments. Supplementation of 120 mg/kg Zn decreased (p<0.05) the antibody response to bovine serum albumin (BSA) on d 7 compared with pigs fed the basal diet, but not on d 14. In Exp. 2, LPS challenge had no effect on ADG, ADFI and FCR in the entire trial (from d 0 to 21). LPS challenge significantly decreased ADG and ADFI (p<0.01) from d 7 to 14, but FCR was not affected. LPS challenge increased PBLP (p<0.05) and serum concentration of interleukin-1 (IL-1) (p<0.01), whereas the antibody response to BSA and serum concentration of interleukin-2 (IL-2) were not affected. Supplementation of Zn did not affect ADFI and FCR from d 7 to 14, but there was a trend for ADG to be enhanced with Zn supplementation (p<0.10). Supplementation of Zn tended to increase PBLP (p<0.10). Dietary treatment had no effect on the antibody response to BSA or concentrations of serum IL-1 and IL-2. Results indicate that the level of Zn recommended by NRC (1998) for weanling pigs was sufficient for optimal growth performance and immune responses. Zn requirements may be higher for pigs experiencing an acute phase response than for healthy pigs.

      • Expression of Fas/FasL in CD8+ T and CD3+ Foxp3+ Treg Cells - Relationship with Apoptosis of Circulating CD8+ T Cells in Hepatocellular Carcinoma Patients

        Guo, Cun-Li,Yang, Xiu-Hua,Cheng, Wen,Xu, Yi,Li, Jie-Bing,Sun, Yi-Xin,Bi, Yu-Mei,Zhang, Lei,Wang, Qiu-Cheng Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.6

Aims: Dysfunction of the host immune system in cancer patients can be due to a number of factors, including lymphocyte apoptosis. Several studies showed that $Foxp3^+T$ cells take part in inducing this process by expressing FasL in tumor patients. However, the relationship between apoptosis, $CD8^+T$ cells and $Foxp3^+T$ cells in HCC patients is still unclear. The present study was designed to investigate the correlation between apoptosis levels and Fas/FasL expression in $CD8^+T$ lymphocytes and $Foxp3^+T$ cells in patients with HCC. Methods: $CD8^+T$ cells and $CD3^+Foxp3^+T$ cells were tested from peripheral blood of HCC patients and normal controls and subjected to multicolor flow cytometry. The expression of an apoptosis marker (annexin V) and the death receptor Fas in $CD8^+T$ cells and FasL in $CD3^+Foxp3^+T$ cells were evaluated. Serum TGF-${\beta}1$ levels in patients with HCC were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The relationship between apoptosis and Fas expression, as well as FasL expression in $CD3^+Foxp3^+T$ cells was then evaluated. Results: The frequency of $CD8^+T$ cells binding annexin V and Fas expression in $CD8^+T$ cells, were all higher in HCC patients than normal controls and the proportion of apoptotic $CD8^+T$ cells correlated with their Fas expression. Serum TGF-${\beta}1$ levels correlated inversely with $CD3^+Foxp3^+T$ cells. Conclusions: Fas/FasL interactions might lead to excessive turnover of $CD8^+T$ cells and reduce anti-tumor immune responses in patients with HCC. Further investigations of apoptosis induction in $Fas^+CD8^+T$ cells in vitro are required.

The recombinant protein corresponded to the expected molecular mass of 25.47 kDa as judged by sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, and it was detected in the supernatant of P. pastoris, and it could be purified. The results from the test of inhibition effect of argali recombinant SPLUNC1 protein on MO showed that the product could inhibit MO very well (p<0.01). Conclusion: The amino acid sequence of Wild Argali SPLUNC1 was different from other organisms. The recombinant SPLUNC1 protein has good biological activity.

      • Use of multi-hybrid machine learning and deep artificial intelligence in the prediction of compressive strength of concrete containing admixtures

        Jian, Guo,Wen, Sun,Wei, Li Techno-Press 2022 Advances in concrete construction Vol.13 No.1

Conventional concrete needs some improvement in the mechanical properties, which can be obtained by different admixtures. However, making concrete samples costume always time and money. In this paper, different types of hybrid algorithms are applied to develop predictive models for forecasting compressive strength (CS) of concretes containing metakaolin (MK) and fly ash (FA). In this regard, three different algorithms have been used, namely multilayer perceptron (MLP), radial basis function (RBF), and support vector machine (SVR), to predict CS of concretes by considering most influencers input variables. These algorithms integrated with the grey wolf optimization (GWO) algorithm to increase the model's accuracy in predicting (GWMLP, GWRBF, and GWSVR). The proposed MLP models were implemented and evaluated in three different layers, wherein each layer, GWO, fitted the best neuron number of the hidden layer. Correspondingly, the key parameters of the SVR model are identified using the GWO method. Also, the optimization algorithm determines the hidden neurons' number and the spread value to set the RBF structure. The results show that the developed models all provide accurate predictions of the CS of concrete incorporating MK and FA with R2 larger than 0.9972 and 0.9976 in the learning and testing stage, respectively. Regarding GWMLP models, the GWMLP1 model outperforms other GWMLP networks. All in all, GWSVR has the worst performance with the lowest indices, while the highest score belongs to GWRBF.

      • Associations Between RASSF1A Promoter Methylation and NSCLC: A Meta-analysis of Published Data

Liu, Wen-Jian,Tan, Xiao-Hong,Guo, Bao-Ping,Ke, Qing,Sun, Jie,Cen, Hong Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.6

Background: RASSF1A has been reported to be a candidate tumor suppressor in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, the association between RASSF1A promoter methylation and NSCLC remains unclear, particularly in regarding links to clinicopathologic features. Methods: Eligible studies were identified through searching PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) databases. Studies were pooled and odds ratios (ORs) with corresponding confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated. Funnel plots were also performed to evaluate publication bias. Results: Nineteen studies involving 2,063 cases of NSCLC and 1,184 controls were included in this meta-analysis. A significant association was observed between RASSF1A methylation and NSCLC in the complete data set (OR = 19.42, 95% CI: 14.04-26.85, P < 0.001). Pooling the control tissue subgroups (heterogeneous/autologous) gave pooled ORs of 32.4 (95% CI, 12.4-84.5) and 17.7 (95% CI, 12.5-25.0) respectively. Racial subgroup (Caucasian/Asian) analysis gave pooled ORs of 26.6 (95% CI, 10.9-64.9) and 20.9 (95% CI, 14.4-30.4) respectively. The OR for RASSF1A methylation in poorly-differentiated vs. moderately/well-differentiated NSCLC tissues was 1.88 (95% CI, 1.32-2.68, P<0.001), whereas there were no significant differences in RASSF1A methylation in relation to gender, pathology, TNM stage and smoking behavior among NSCLC cases. Conclusion: This meta-analysis suggests a significant association between RASSF1A methylation and NSCLC, confirming the role of RASSF1A as a tumor suppressor gene. Large-scale and well-designed case-control studies are needed to validate the associations identified in the present meta-analysis.

Promoting role of sulfur groups in selective catalytic reduction of NO with NH3 over H2SO4 modified activated carbons

        Qianqian Guo,Wen Jing,Shangzeng Cheng,Zhanggen Huang,Dekui Sun,Yaqin Hou,Xiaojin Han 한국화학공학회 2015 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.32 No.11

To determine the role of sulfur groups formed on activated carbon (AC) in the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NO with NH3, coal-based AC was modified by H2SO4 under various conditions and then treated in N2 atmosphere at 400 oC. The resulting carbons were characterized by N2 adsorption, elemental analysis, temperature programmed desorption and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and tested for the SCR of NO with NH3 in the temperature range of 30-250 oC. Results reveal that H2SO4 modification has little effect on the textural properties, but promotes the formation of sulfur and oxygen groups. The sulfur groups incorporated by H2SO4 modification are mainly sulfonic groups and then sulfates. In particular, these sulfur groups play a predominant role in improving NH3 adsorption and then enhancing the SCR activity of modified carbons above 150 oC. However, the contribution of oxygen groups to NO reduction is very limited under the conditions employed in this work.

      • Effects of Parafibromin Expression on the Phenotypes and Relevant Mechanisms in the DLD-1 Colon Carcinoma Cell Line

        Zhao, Shuang,Sun, Hong-Zhi,Zhu, Shi-Tu,Lu, Hang,Niu, Zhe-Feng,Guo, Wen-Feng,Takano, Yasuo,Zheng, Hua-Chuan Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.7

Background: Parafibromin is a protein encoded by the HRPT2 (hyperparathyroidism 2) oncosuppressor gene and its down-regulated expression is involved in pathogenesis of parathyroid, breast, gastric and colorectal carcinomas. This study aimed to clarify the effects of parafibromin expression on the phenotypes and relevant mechanisms of DLD-1 colon carcinoma cells. Methods: DLD-1 cells transfected with a parafibromin-expressing plasmid were subjected to examination of phenotype, including proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, migration and invasion. Phenotype-related proteins were measured by Western blot. Parafibromin and ki-67 expression was detected by immunohistochemistry on tissue microarrays. Results: The transfectants showed higher proliferation by CCK-8, better differentiation by electron microscopy and ALP activity and more apoptotic resistance to cisplatin by DNA fragmentation than controls. There was no difference in early apoptosis by annexin V, capase-3 activity, migration and invasion between DLD-1 cells and their transfectants. Ectopic parafibromin expression resulted in down-regulated expression of smad4, MEKK, GRP94, GRP78, $GSK3{\beta}$-ser9, and Caspase-9. However, no difference was detectable in caspase-12 and -8 expression. A positive relationship was noted between parafibromin and ki-67 expression in colorectal carcinoma. Conclusions: Parafibromin overexpression could promote cell proliferation, apoptotic resistance, and differentiation of DLD-1 cells.

      • A Fully-implicit Velocity Pressure coupling Algorithm-IDEAL and Its Applications

        Dong-Liang SUN,Zhi-Guo QU,Ya-Ling HE,Wen-Quan TAO 한국전산유체공학회 2008 한국전산유체공학회 학술대회논문집 Vol.2008 No.-

An efficient segregated algorithm for the coupling of velocity and pressure of incompressible fluid flow, called IDEAL (Inner Doubly-Iterative Efficient Algorithm for Linked-Equations), has been proposed by the present authors. In the algorithm there exist double inner iterative processes for pressure equation at each iteration level, which almost completely overcome two approximations in SIMPLE algorithm. Thus the coupling between velocity and pressure is fully guaranteed, greatly enhancing the convergence rate and stability of solution process. The performance of the IDEAL algorithm for three-dimensional incompressible fluid flow and heat transfer problems is analyzed and a systemic comparison is made between the algorithm and three other most widely-used algorithms (SIMPLER, SIMPLEC and PISO). It is found that the IDEAL algorithm is the most robust and the most efficient one among the four algorithms compared. This new algorithm is used for the velocity prediction of a new interface capturing method ?VOSET ,also proposed by the present author. It is found that the combination of VOSET and IDEAL can appreciably enhance both the interface capture accuracy and convergence rate of computations.
