Role of prostaglandins on the renin-angiotensin system in the central nervous system was examined in normotensive and 2-kidney, 1 clip (2K1C) hypertensive rats. The experiment was done under thiopental (50 ㎎/㎏, IP) anesthesia. Captopril and indomethacin were injected into the right lateral cerebral ventricle. Arterial blood pressure and heart rate were recorded from the femoral artery. Intracerebroventricular (ICV) captopril (1 ㎎) caused a decrease in mean arterial pressure in both normotensive and 2K1C hypertensive rats. The depressor response to captopril was more sensitive in hyper-tensive rats than in normotensive rats. Indomethacin treatment (ICV, 200 ㎎) altered the depressor response to captopril neither in normotensive nor in hypertensive rats. These results suggest that the cardiovascular effect of renin-angiotensin system in the central nervous system may not be mediated via prostaglandin systems in normotensive and 2KlC hypertensive rats.

Openings through beams are required for the passage of utility ducts and pipes, and they are freqently encountered in the design of modern buildings. They are particularly important in multistory buildings where the use of openings in beams can mean lower story heights, leading in turn to a multiplicity of savings. Therefore, the designers are often faced with the necessity of providing adequate openings in the buildings. However, provision of openings may cause problems of excessive cracking and deflection, and may severly affect the strength of a beam. An experimental investigation is carried out on twelve reinforced concrete beams with square openings. The size of opening, and it's location are considered as major variables. The specimens were tested under two point loading. Loads were usually applied in steps of 0.5 ton up to failure to observe the crack initiation and propagation, initial diagonal cracking, midspan deflection, concrete strain and reinforcement strain.

Background and Objectives : The overexpression of P-glycoprotein (Pgp) or multidrug resistanceassociated protein (MRP) confers multidrug resistance (MDR) to cancer cells. MDR cells could be sensitized to anticancer drugs when treated concomitantly with a chemosensitizer. In this study, orange peel have been screened for the development of chemosensitizers reversing MDR. Materials and methods : Expression of Pgp in AML-2/WT and AML-2/D100 were determined using western blot analysis and RT-PCR. Candidates for chemosensitizers were isolated, purified from orange peel using sephadex LH-20 column chromatography and silica-gel column chromatography, whose structure was determined using ^1H-NMR, ^13C-NMR, ^1H-^1H-COSY, 13C-NMR, EI-Mass, IR. Chemosensitizing effect of NP-28 on AML-2/DX100 over expressing Pgp and MRP was determined by the MTT assay. Membrane toxicity was evaluated by the RBC hemolysis test. Antioxidant effects were examined by using a fluorescence probe (2’-7’-dichlorofluorescein diacetate). Results : A potent candidate, NP-28, has a flavonoid nucleus with some methoxy moiety. NP-28 is believed to have high therapeutic index, being non-transportable inhibitor and possibly, of inhibiting other efflux pumps such as MRP and antioxidant effects. NP-28 is also unlikely to be a substrate of Pgp. NP-28 did not increase Pgp levels. Conclusion : NP-28 has a Chemosensitizing effect to reverse Pgp-mediated MDR by increasing the intracellular accumulation of drugs. Furthermore, they do not increase expression of Pgp, which can allow a long term use without the concern about Pgp activation. NP-28 is anticipated as an ideal second-generation flavonoid chemosensitizer and/or possibly other therapeutic agents by further investigation.

A series of wholly aromatic polyesters with side chains were synthesized by solution polycondensation from 2,5-dialkoxyterephthaloyl chlorides with the corresponding diol. The polymers showed the schlieren textures which is indicative of a nematic phase above their melting temperature. The inherent viscosities (η_(inh)) measured at 35℃ in phenol/p-chlorophenol/1,1,2,2-tetrachloroethane were 0.56-0.98 dℓ/g. The glass transition temperature (T_(g)) and melting temperature (T_(m)) decreased with increasing the length of the alkoxy side chain. Initial decomposition temperatures in TGA occurred at 338 ~ 363℃ in N₂ gas and thermal stability of polymers decreased with increasing the length of the side chain.

Metal balls are commonly used in mechanical elements and systems including bearings. If there is a defect in a metal ball, it can cause a serious machine failure. By this reason every balls produced are required to be inspected, and the inspection is usually done by human eyes. However, the inspection by human eyes is always with the risk of mistakes, and a need to automate the inspection process is arisen. This paper describes a design of an automatic inspection system for detecting defects on ball surface. A machine vision system is used, and design process and techniques are described in detail. 강구는 베어링을 비롯한 기계 요소 및 장치에서 널리 사용되는 부품이다. 만약 강구에 결함이 있을 시, 이를 사용하는 기계에서 치명적인 결함이 초래될 수 있다. 따라서 제조된 강구에 대해서는 전량검사가 요구되고 있고, 검사과정은 사람의 육안에 의한 검사가 주를 이루고 있다. 그런데 사람에 의한 검사에는 항상 실수의 가능성이 있으므로, 이를 자동화하는 것이 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 강구의 표면 결함을 자동적으로 검사할 수 있는 장치를 설계한다. 기계시각 장치가 사용되었고, 설계에 따른 구체적 절차와 기술들이 서술된다.
家兎副腎으로 부터 Adenosine에 의한 Acetylcholine의 Catecholamines 分泌의 相乘作用

This study is an attempt to investigate the effect of adenosine, which is known as a presynaptic modulator of neurotransmitter release from autonomic nerve ending's, on the potentiation of acetylcholine(Ach)-induced secretion of calecholamines (CA) from the isolated perfused rabbit adrenal gland. Adenosine(0.18mM), when perfused into the adrenal gIand for 30min, potentiated significantly Ach(50㎍)-induced CA secretion as compared to its corresponding value(655.6±102.5 and 353.2±59.3 ng/4min. respectively) and this potentiation lasted over 2hr. Adenosine-induced potentiation of CA secrction by Ach was antagonized by treatment with neophylline(dihyclroxypropyltheophyllinc, 0.2mM) which is an adenosine receptor blocking' agent. Adenosine also potentiated CA secretion by KCl(200㎍), a direct dePolarizinq agent, and nicotine(10㎍), but less than that evoked by Ach. Physostigmine(eaerine, 10nM), which is an anticholinesterase, weakened the effect of adenosine on Ach-induced CA seretion. and vice versa. From the above mentioned results, it is thought that adenosine-evoked potentiation of Ach-induced CA secretion is exerted via adenosine receptors on chromaffin cells and that it exhibits no specific relationship to nicotine receptors, but may produce an intracelluar effect opposite to that caused by physostigmine. And it also seems that there is a species difference in the modulation of adenosine to CA secretion from the adrenal gland.
