      • Treatment of fever with traditional Chinese medicine according to Zheng on cancer patients (based on case reports)

        Peng Cao,Lan-Ying Liu,Xue-Ting Cai,Xiao-Ning Wang,Jie-Ge Huo,Zhong-Ying Zhou 셀메드 세포교정의약학회 2012 셀메드 (CellMed) Vol.2 No.2

Fever in cancer patients is often due to the following causes: evil qi and toxity stagnancy, disorders of qi and blood, deficiencies of zang and fu organs, and the disorder of yin and yang. The treatments given to cancer patients with a fever are according to five: (a) Excessive inner heat and toxicants: remove heat and the toxicant, induce purgation. We use Cheng-Qi-Tang plus Qing-Wen-Bai-Du-Yin. (b) Tangle of damp and heat, and qi stagnancy: remove damp and heat, smooth the qi channel. We use Gan-Lu-Xiao-Du-Dan or San-Ren-Tang. (c) Obvious blood and heat stagnancy: remove heat and blood stasis. We use Xue-Fu-Zhu-Yu-Tang. (d) Deficiency of spleen qi, inner heat caused by a yin deficiency: nourish spleen qi and yin to remove the inner heat. We use Bu-Zhong-Yi-Qi-Tang or Xiao-Jian-Zhong-Tang. (e) Prominent yin deficiency and hectic fever: replenish yin and remove inner heat. We use Qing-Hao-Bie-Jia-Tang or Chai-Qian-Mei-Lian-San. The pathogenesis of fever in cancer patients is complicated. We can see both deficiency and excess in one differentiation. Therefore, we must make sure of it, then we can get the most effective treatment.

Case Reports : Paroxysmal Supraventricular Tachycardia in an Infant with Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease

( Peng Hu ),( Shu Hou ),( Peng Fei Du ),( Jia Bin Li ),( Ying Ye ) 대한피부과학회 2012 Annals of Dermatology Vol.24 No.2

An 11-month-old male infant was admitted to our hospital with fever, fussiness, poor feeding, vomiting, and tachypnea for two days prior. Physical examination revealed sporadic papules and vesicles occurring on his hands, feet, face, and perianal mucosa. Enterovirus 71 was identified from both throat swab and vesicle fluid using virus isolation techniques. The patient`s heart rate fluctuated in a very narrow range from 180~210/beats/min regardless of his physiologic state. An electrocardiogram showed P-waves buried within or occurring just after regular, narrow, QRS complexes. The patient was diagnosed as having hand, foot, and mouth disease in combination with paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia (PSVT). The child recovered well with symptomatic treatment, including intravenous administration of acyclovir, glucocorticoids, immunoglobulin, adenosine, and sotalol. PSVT was terminated within 36 hours of hospitalization. The skin lesions became crusted on the third day, and then proceeded to heal spontaneously. Here we report on this unusual case and review the associated literature. (Ann Dermatol 24(2) 200∼202, 2012)

      • Inhibitory Effects of Syk Transfection on Lung Cancer Cell Invasion

Peng, Chuan-Liang,Zhang, Ying,Sun, Qi-Feng,Zhao, Yun-Peng,Hao, Ying-Tao,Zhao, Xiao-Gang,Cong, Bo Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.5

Objective: Spleen tyrosine kinase (Syk) is closely related to tumor invasion and metastasis, and has been shown to have potential inhibitory effects in tumors. In this study, we constructed a eukaryotic expression vector for Syk and analyzed its effects on invasive ability of the A549 non-small cell lung cancer cell line in vitro. Methods: A fragment of Syk was obtained by RT-PCR from human lung cancer cells and cloned into the expression vector pLNCXSyk. After restriction endonuclease digestion, PCR and DNA sequencing confirmation, the recombinant Syk expression plasmid was transfected into A549 human lung cancer cells using lipofectamine protocols. After selection, the cells stably expressed Syk. Detection of Syk expression of the cells by RT-PCR, and invasive ability were examined. Results: The eukaryotic expression plamid pLNCXSyk was constructed and expressed stably in the A549 human lung cancer cells. The RT-PCR results showed that Syk mRNA expression was upregulated significantly (P<0.05). Lower invasion through a basal membrane were apparent after transfection (P<0.05). Conclusions: A eukaryotic expression plasmid to cause Syk expression in lung cancer cells can obviously inhibit their invasive ability in vitro.

A genome-wide survey and analysis of basic helix-loop-helix genes in the Asian citrus psyllid, Diaphorina citri (Hemiptera: Psyllidae)

        Ying Peng,Yong Wang,Xia-Fang Tao,Zhen Zeng,Nana Adwoa Nkuma Johnson,Qin Yao,Ke Ping Chen 한국응용곤충학회 2017 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.20 No.3

The basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) proteins are important player in regulation of various eukaryotic developmental processes such as neurogenesis, myogenesis and heart morphogenesis. The Asian citrus psyllid (Diaphorina citri) is a sap-sucking pest which is widely distributed in southern Asia and causes greening disease in citrus orchard. In this study, Diaphorina citri genome is found to encode 52 bHLH genes. Through in-depth phylogenetic analyses, all 52 Diaphorina citri bHLH (DcbHLH) genes are classified into correspondent bHLH families according to their orthology with bHLHs from fruit fly and other insect species. Examination of GenBank annotations of these 52 DcbHLH members indicated that annotations of only 21 DcbHLH proteins are consistent with our analysis. Therefore, our data provide useful information for updating annotations to other 31 DcbHLH proteins. Among the 52 DcbHLH proteins, DcClk, DcSima, DcCyc and DcCwo have dual HLH motifs, which have not been found in any other bHLH proteins. Diaphorina citri has 2, 3 and 2 bHLH members respectively in Net, Hand and SRC families while other insect species have only one member in these families. The existence of more Net, Hand and SRC family members probably means that Asian citrus psyllid possesses more complex regulatory network in controlling intervein emergence, heart morphogenesis and larval metamorphosis than other insects. These results provide a solid basis and interesting aspects for further investigations into the evolution and functions of bHLH genes in Diaphorina citri.

Schisandrin B Improves the Hypothermic Preservation of Celsior Solution in Human Umbilical Cord Mesenchymal Stem Cells

        Zhang Ying,Wang Peng,Jin Mei-xian,Zhou Ying-qi,Ye Liang,Zhu Xiao-juan,Li Hui-fang,Zhou Ming,Li Yang,Li Shao,Liang Kang-yan,Wang Yi,Gao Yi,Pan Ming-xin,Zhou Shu-qin,Peng Qing 한국조직공학과 재생의학회 2023 조직공학과 재생의학 Vol.20 No.3

BACKGROUND: Human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (hUCMSCs) have emerged as promising therapy for immune and inflammatory diseases. However, how to maintain the activity and unique properties during cold storage and transportation is one of the key factors affecting the therapeutic efficiency of hUCMSCs. Schisandrin B (SchB) has many functions in cell protection as a natural medicine. In this study, we investigated the protective effects of SchB on the hypothermic preservation of hUCMSCs. METHODS: hUCMSCs were isolated from Wharton’s jelly. Subsequently, hUCMSCs were exposed to cold storage (4 C) and 24-h re-warming. After that, cells viability, surface markers, immunomodulatory effects, reactive oxygen species (ROS), mitochondrial integrity, apoptosis-related and antioxidant proteins expression level were evaluated. RESULTS: SchB significantly alleviated the cells injury and maintained unique properties such as differentiation potential, level of surface markers and immunomodulatory effects of hUCMSCs. The protective effects of SchB on hUCMSCs after hypothermic storage seemed associated with its inhibition of apoptosis and the anti-oxidative stress effect mediated by nuclear factor erythroid 2–related factor 2 signaling. CONCLUSION: These results demonstrate SchB could be used as an agent for hypothermic preservation of hUCMSCs.

Profiling Gene Expression During Gland Morphogenesis of a Glanded and a Glandless Upland Cotton

        Ying-Fan Cai,Min Chen,Quan Sun,Yong-Fang Xie,Sheng-Wei Li,Jian-Chuan Mo,Ming-Feng Jiang,You-Lu Yuan,Yu-Zhen Shi,Huai-Zhong Jiang,Zheng Pan,Yun-Ling Gao,Peng-Sheng Ye,Hua-Lan Zeng 한국식물학회 2009 Journal of Plant Biology Vol.52 No.6

The pigment gland is an important character of the Gossypium plant. With the aim of identifying genes involved in pigment gland morphogenesis in cotton, gene expression during pigment gland morphogenesis in Chuan 2802, which is glanded both in seed and plant, and a glandless line N5 was profiled using Affymetrix Cotton microarray. The results showed that there were 564 differentially expressed genes greater than twofold during gland morphogenesis. About 60.2% of these genes shares similarity with known genes on GenBank and about 39.8% with no functional description in the database. These described genes may play roles in defense response, response to oxidative stress, peroxidase activity, and the other metabolic pathways. The KEGG Orthology-Based Annotation System indicated that these above twofold expressed genes involved seven biochemical pathways on KEGG. These findings suggest that a complicated regulation is associated with pigment gland morphogenesis and the associated defense response including gossypol biosynthesis in cotton.

      • Further study on improvement on strain concentration in through-diaphragm connection

        Ying Qin,Jing-Chen Zhang,Peng Shi,Yi-Fu Chen,Yao-Han Xu,Zuo-Zheng Shi 국제구조공학회 2021 Steel and Composite Structures, An International J Vol.39 No.2

Hollow structural section (HSS) columns have been increasingly popular due to their structural and architectural merits. However, practical difficulty lies in developing proper connections. The through-diaphragm connections are considered as suitable connection type that is widely adopted in Asian countries. However, the stress concentration occurs at the location connecting through-diaphragm and steel beam. Furthermore, the actual load path from the beam flange is not uniformly transferred to the HSS column as conventionally assumed. In this paper, tensile tests were further conducted on three additional specimens with beam flange plate to evaluate the load versus displacement response. The load-displacement curves, yield and ultimate capacity, ductility ratio were obtained. Furthermore, the strain development at different loading levels was discussed comprehensively. It is shown that the studied connection configuration significantly reduces the stress concentration. Meanwhile, simplified trilinear load-displacement analytical model for specimen under tensile load was presented. Good agreement was found between the theoretical and experimental results.

Electroless Cu/Ni Plating on Graphite Flake and the Effects to the Properties of Graphite Flake/Si/Al Hybrid Composites

        Ying Huang,Xuanyi Peng,Yiwen Yang,Haiwei Wu,Xu Sun,Xiaopeng Han 대한금속·재료학회 2018 METALS AND MATERIALS International Vol.24 No.5

Proper process and parameter were investigated to coat Cu or Ni on graphite fl ake (G f ) by electroless plating. Microstructuralcharacterization indicated that the Cu/Ni was coated on the G f uniformly and comprehensively. Then aluminum matrixcomposites reinforced with Si and graphite were fabricated by a unique vacuum gas pressure infi ltration. The thermal conductivityand mechanical properties of the composites, both with and without Cu or Ni coating layers on the graphite surface, have been studied. The obtained results indicated that the mechanical property of the Cu or Ni coated G f /Si/Al compositesdramatically increased, as compared with the non-coated G f /Si/Al composite. In the meantime, Cu or Ni coated G f provedto have better wettability and interfacial bonding with the aluminum matrix, which were expected to be a highly sustainableand dispersible reinforcement for metal matrix composites.

Numerical Investigation on Effects of Rivulet and Cable Oscillation of a Stayed Cable in Rain-wind-induced Vibration

Peng Xie,Chao Ying Zhou 대한기계학회 2013 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.27 No.3

Rain-wind-induced vibration (RWIV) appeared on cable stayed bridges involves complicated fluid and structure interactions and its mechanism is not fully understood. It is believed that the upper-rivulet which is often seen when the RWIV occurs plays an important role. In this paper, a numerical investigation on the effects of the upper rivulet on the aerodynamic forces of the cable and the interaction between the fluid flow and the cable oscillation is carried out where the cable with the upper-rivulet is modeled by a circular cylinder with an arch attachment. The Reynolds number of 6.8×104 is selected. The large-eddy simulation (LES) method with Smagorinsky-Lilly modeling is employed to simulate the 3-D turbulent flow field, and a moving mesh method is introduced to deal with the oscillation of the cylinder. The aerodynamic forces on the cylinder and the flow patterns around the cylinder are analyzed for both steady and oscillation status of the cylinder with the rivulet attachment in different position angle ranged from 0˚ to 60˚. The results show that the aerodynamic forces on the cylinder change largely with the position angle of the rivulet attachment. In the steady cases, a uniform recirculation flow along the axial direction of the cylinder forms behind the cylinder; whereas in the oscillation cases, a 3-D periodical recirculation flow appears along the axial direction. The scales of these recirculation zones are influenced by both the position angle of the rivulet and the dynamic status of the cylinder. The results also show that there exists a rivulet position angle where the aerodynamic force on the cable and flow pattern around the cable both change dramatically. This critical position angle is found to be 45˚ for the cases studied.
