Vol.40 No.4
This study delves into the health information sharing behavior of elderly individuals from the perspective of family communication. The primary objective is to investigate the influence of both online social relationships and offline relationships on the verification and sharing of health information among the elderly. The online social relationships are scrutinized with an emphasis on bonding and bridging social capital, while the depth of communication with adult children is considered a pivotal aspect of offline relationships. The findings reveal the following key points: 1) Online social relationships and health information verification act as mediators between health literacy and health information sharing. 2) The level of communication with adult children moderates the relationship between health information verification and health information sharing. This study carries implications, highlighting that health literacy impacts health information sharing behavior by mediating through online social relationships and health information verification. Specifically, bonding social capital is found to be unrelated to health information verification but directly influences health information sharing behavior. Moreover, the depth of communication with adult children plays a significant role in adjusting health information sharing behavior through health information verification, thereby curbing indiscriminate information sharing among the elderly.

A Study of Content Validity on Grammar Gap-filling Tests in NMET II
( Ming-hao Jin ),( Mei-xian Zheng ) 대한언어학회 2020 언어학 Vol.28 No.3
Based on Bachman and Palmer’s (1996) Framework of Task Characteristics and Li’s (1996) Test Point Validity Theory, this paper aims to analyze the test point quality and content validity of grammar gap-filling tests of the 2014-2019 National Matriculation English Test paper II (NMET II), in particular, concerning the content validity of tests in terms of the characteristics of input and expected responses, and test point validity. The results show that the grammar gap-filling tests in the NMET II are all in line with the language knowledge part required in the New Curriculum Standard and the Testing Syllabus and have a relatively high content validity. The test points are evenly distributed and reasonably designed, which can test students' grammar ability under the guidance of discourse with well designed length and reasonable test point validity. However, there are still some problems to be improved, such as the lack of ‘man and nature’ and practical essay writing in terms of topic and genre. The readability fluctuated greatly. The expected response type is restricted to limited production. Furthermore, test points designed with discourse level and meaning factor are less examined, and lacking of test points used to measure a higher grammatical ability.

Background: Epidemiological studies evaluating the association of two variants rs9340799 and rs2234693 on estrogen receptor 1 (ESR1) with prostate risk have generated inconsistent results. Methods: A meta-analysis was here conducted to systematically evaluate the relationship of these two variants with prostate cancer susceptibility. Results: For rs9340799, heterozygosity of T/C carriers showed a significant increased prostate cancer risk with a pooled odds ratio (OR) of 1.34 (95% CI = 1.06-1.69) while homozygote C/C carriers showed an increased but not statistically significant association with prostate cancer risk (pooled OR = 1.29, 95% CI = 0.94-1.79). Compared to the homozygous TT carriers, the allele C carriers showed a 31% increased risk for prostate cancer (pooled OR = 1.31, 95% CI = 1.06-1.63). No significant association between the rs2234693 and prostate cancer risk was found with the pooled OR of 1.15 (95% CI = 0.97-1.39, T/C and C/C vs. T/T) under the dominant genetic model. Compared to the homozygote T/T carriers, the heterozygous T/C carriers did not show any significantly different risk of prostate cancer (pooled OR = 1.13, 95% CI = 0.94-1.36) and the homozygous C/C carriers also did not show a significant change for prostate cancer risk compared to the wide-type T/T carriers (pooled OR = 1.26, 95% CI = 0.98-1.62). Conclusion: These data suggested that variant rs9340799, but not rs2234693, on ESR1 confers an elevated risk of prostate cancer.

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: The flowers of Inula japonica (Inulae Flos) have long been used in traditional medicine for the treatment of bronchitis, digestive disorders, and inflammation. However, the mechanisms underlying its anti-inflammatory effects remain yet to be elucidated. The objectives of this study were 1) to assess the anti-allergic activity of the ethanol extract of flowers of Inula japonica extract (IFE) in vivo, 2) to investigate the mechanism of its action on mast cells in vitro, and 3) to identify its major phytochemical compositions. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The anti-allergic activity of IFE was evaluated using mouse bone marrow-derived mast cells (BMMCs) in vitro and a passive cutaneous anaphylaxis (PCA) animal model in vivo. The effects of IFE on mast cell activation were evaluated in terms of degranulation, eicosanoid generation, Ca(2+) influx, and immunoblotting of various signaling molecules. RESULTS: IFE inhibited degranulation and the generation of eicosanoids (PGD(2) and LTC(4)) in stem cell factor (SCF)-stimulated BMMCs. Biochemical analysis of the SCF-mediated signaling pathways demonstrated that IFE inhibited the activation of multiple downstream signaling processes including mobilization of intracellular Ca(2+) and phosphorylation of the mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs), PLCγ1, and cPLA(2) pathways. When administered orally, IFE attenuated themast cell-mediated PCA reaction in IgE-sensitized mice. Its major phytochemical composition included three sesquiterpenes, 1-O-acetylbritannilactone, britanin and tomentosin. CONCLUSIONS: This study suggests that IFE modulates eicosanoids generation and degranulation through the suppression of SCF-mediated signaling pathways that would be beneficial for the prevention of allergic inflammatory diseases. Anti-allergic activity of IFE may be in part attributed particularly to the presence of britanin and tomentosin as major components evidenced by a HPLC analysis. BACKGROUND: Human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (hUCMSCs) have emerged as promising therapy for immune and inflammatory diseases. However, how to maintain the activity and unique properties during cold storage and transportation is one of the key factors affecting the therapeutic efficiency of hUCMSCs. Schisandrin B (SchB) has many functions in cell protection as a natural medicine. In this study, we investigated the protective effects of SchB on the hypothermic preservation of hUCMSCs. METHODS: hUCMSCs were isolated from Wharton’s jelly. Subsequently, hUCMSCs were exposed to cold storage (4 C) and 24-h re-warming. After that, cells viability, surface markers, immunomodulatory effects, reactive oxygen species (ROS), mitochondrial integrity, apoptosis-related and antioxidant proteins expression level were evaluated. RESULTS: SchB significantly alleviated the cells injury and maintained unique properties such as differentiation potential, level of surface markers and immunomodulatory effects of hUCMSCs. The protective effects of SchB on hUCMSCs after hypothermic storage seemed associated with its inhibition of apoptosis and the anti-oxidative stress effect mediated by nuclear factor erythroid 2–related factor 2 signaling. CONCLUSION: These results demonstrate SchB could be used as an agent for hypothermic preservation of hUCMSCs.

Curcumin, a polyphenol compound derived from the rhizome of the plant Curcuma longa L. has been verified as an anticancer compound against several types of cancer. However, understanding of the molecular mechanisms by which it induces apoptosis is limited. In this study, the anticancer efficacy of curcumin was investigated in human gastric adenocarcinoma SGC-7901 cells. The results demonstrated that curcumin induced morphological changes and decreased cell viability. Apoptosis triggered by curcumin was visualized using Annexin V-FITC/7-AAD staining. Curcumin-induced apoptosis of SGC-7901 cells was associated with the dissipation of mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP) and the release of cytochrome c into the cytosol. Furthermore, the down-regulation of Bcl-2 and up-regulation of Bax that led to the cleavage of caspase-3 and increased cleaved PARP was observed in SGC-7901 cells treated with curcumin. Therefore, curcumin-induced apoptosis of SGC-7901 cells might be mediated through the mitochondria pathway, which gives the rationale for in vivo studies on the utilization of curcumin as a potential cancer therapeutic compound.
