      • 大學 自然系科目 敎授方法에 관한 硏究

        In order to find the effective teaching method of the natural science subjects in the university level, the project method wsa applied to the actual university classes as a experimental basis. The experimented subjects were "Teaching Method in the Industrial Education"of 3 classes, and "Manufacturing Practices"of 2 classes. The findings of this study are summarized as follows; 1. The project method gives the students much learing motivations and cooperative working habits. 2. The project method gives the students problem solving abilities through creativity and thinking power. 3. The project method is better than the course method in terms of learning content understanding and time utilization of the students. 4. The projet method is not suitable to the class which has a large number of students. 5. The problem level of project should be fitted to the time duration and the level of student' s ability. 6. The more studies are needed in order to generalize the project method to the other subjects.

      • 東西刺繡 Design에 나타난 Motif의 造形的 考察 : 現代的 槪念을 中心으로

        The difference between the eastern and western embroidery can be divided into two aspects-that of the history of embroidery, and the formative aspect. This research is to evaluate the value of the tradition of eastern and western embroidery. A recent trend in formalism which pervades the universities poses a problem as to how embroidery can exist transcending the values shown in different localities. This paper attempts to put emphasis on the side of the division of cultural history. Korea, China and Japan are chosen in the eastern area : European countries and America, in the western area. Today, as we can see, under the trend of international uniformity, the differences between the eastern and western expressions in embroidery are shown to be ambiguous in reality; however, the differences between them can be traced in the traditional sense of formative aspects. The eastern sense of formative arts is based on its relationship to the nature. It strives to admire nature, to reaffirms the world of idealism and to fulfill aesthetic inspirations. It has also tried to find its meaning through symbols in designs or concepts in good omens. In comparison, the western sense is more humane, not idealistic but materialistic, progressive and somewhat belligerent. The trend of modern embroidery which transcends the differences between the two worlds avoids medieval functionalism or mechanism and pursues the aesthetic senses which bring embroidery to a new dimension. Therefore, the concepts and the position of embroidery in recent ages have begun to change considerably. It can be viewed as a general tendency of the rapid changes over culture, economy and society itself. The concepts of modern cultural life are formed by exchanging the functional character of embroidery for the aesthetics. Therefore, the formative ideology of modern embroidery emphasizes pure expressionism instead of functionalism. The industrialism and mechanism have begun and have allowed to change the senses of the moderns, modern embroidery to pursue expressions more creative than the traditional methods of conservative or out-dated embroidery. The enlargement of the expression area in creative art begins to transcend the traditional concepts of embroidery which only mean 'sewing with threads and needles' into the more broad concepts of 'the art of fabric'. The collapse of the large family system and the massive social participation of women are the very causes of the quantitative poverty of recent embroideriers. Furthermore, poor social understanding embroidery has been a further cause if the depression of embroidery from its former status as a luxurious traditional art. The lectures of embroidery in polytechnical college are declining in popularity and, in high school, it is taught as a part the domestic sciences rather than that of the formative arts. These situations have brought about the poor results of inactive embroidery works in 'The National Art Exhibition' and 'The national Commercial and Industrial Art Exhibition' Embroidery should therefore be recognized as an art of craft and its values should be recognized in the culture and artistic. It should also be reflected broadly in the dimension of education and the progression of the literary field. There is no doubt that embroidery will be recognized an attractive modern formative art when its artistic merits have been studied in depth.

        This paper aims at providing a concrete plan to improve technical and vocational teacher education in the College of Industrial Education of Chungnam National University. It is intended to propose a practical four-year regular and short-term course. Also, the estimated required facilities is included in this study as well as their management. The main conclusions and recommendations are summarized as follows; 1) The numbers of students enrollment should be reduced to 220 students which is the approximate number of future demand. 2) In order to offer to the students a broader education and to cope with the increase/decrease in demand of technical and vocational teacher within a specific field, the 8 department existing at the present (Department of Architecture Engineering Education, Civil Eng. Educ., Metallurgical Eng. Educ., Mechanical Eng. .Educ., Electrical Eng. Educ., Electronic Eng. Educ., Industrial Chemistry Educ. and Industrial Technology Educ.) would be combined into 5 (Department of Construction Engineering Education, Mechanical Eng. Educ., Electrical Eng. Educ., Industrial Chemistry Educ. and Industrial Technology Educ.). 3) The short-term course program is recommened to provide additional training and education to those candidates who already have experience in technical fields to meet an occasional demand. 4) It is necessary to add the Teaching Profession Section in the administrative organization of the College.

        A Case of Human Mpox with Isolated Perianal Ulcers Development in Convalescent Phase

        A 35-year-old man who returned from Germany developed fever, generalized pain, severe anal pain, and generalized skin rash, confirmed to be monkeypox (mpox). While he was previously confirmed to be human immunodeficiency virus infected, antiretroviral therapy ensured his immunocompetence. The mpox-related prodromal symptoms disappeared before isolation, and subsequent several vesicular skin lesions healed after admission. While moderate anal pain persisted for a few days, it improved during hospitalization. The mpox virus was no longer detected in samples taken from the upper respiratory tract and skin by polymerase chain reaction upon admission. However, isolated perianal ulcers developed after admission without any other mpox-related symptoms or signs, and a viable mpox virus was isolated from these ulcers. Considering the novel feature of asynchronous mucocutaneous lesion development in the current mpox epidemic, meticulous physical examination of newly developing lesions, especially in anogenital areas, should be performed during mpox management.

        This paper presents a multi-agent system for intelligent recommendation of travel plans to users. The goal of the system is to provide alternative and preferable travel plans to users when the availability of tickets is low such as in vacations, holidays, weekends, or peak seasons. The multiple agents in the system search for available alternatives for a target travel in collaboration with other agents and recommend best alternatives by analyzing them using a multi-criteria decision-making model. A prototype online travel support system was constructed and a simulation experiment was performed for evaluation and comparison with different travel planning strategies.

        Gossypol Induces Apoptosis of Human Pancreatic Cancer Cells via CHOP/Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress Signaling Pathway

        Gossypol, a natural phenolic aldehyde present in cotton plants, was originally used as a means of contraception, but is currently being studied for its anti-proliferative and anti-metastatic effects on various cancers. However, the intracellular mechanism of action regarding the effects of gossypol on pancreatic cancer cells remains unclear. Here, we investigated the anti-cancer effects of gossypol on human pancreatic cancer cells (BxPC-3 and MIA PaCa-2). Cell counting kit-8 assays, annexin V/ propidium iodide staining assays, and transmission electron microscopy showed that gossypol induced apoptotic cell death and apoptotic body formation in both cell lines. RNA sequencing analysis also showed that gossypol increased the mRNA levels of CCAAT/enhancer-binding protein homologous protein (CHOP) and activating transcription factor 3 (ATF3) in pancreatic cancer cell lines. In addition, gossypol facilitated the cleavage of caspase-3 via protein kinase RNA-like ER kinase (PERK), CHOP, and Bax/Bcl-2 upregulation in both cells, whereas the upregulation of ATF was limited to BxPC-3 cells. Finally, a three-dimensional culture experiment confirmed the successful suppression of cancer cell spheroids via gossypol treatment. Taken together, our data suggest that gossypol may trigger apoptosis in pancreatic cancer cells via the PERK-CHOP signaling pathway. These findings propose a promising therapeutic approach to pancreatic cancer treatment using gossypol.

      • Compaction behavior of water-atomized CoCrFeMnNi high-entropy alloy powders

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>In this work, compaction behavior of CoCrFeMnNi high-entropy alloy powders with various particle sizes and size distributions, produced by water atomization, was investigated experimentally and theoretically. Theoretical modeling was employed using a pressure-dependent yield function in associated with a phenomenological constitutive model. Results for the quantitative densification behaviors from the experimental and theoretical analyses are in good agreement. We found that the size and size-distribution of the powder particles are important factors in the tap density as with conventional powder compaction. The compact density of large powder particles with coarse dendrite arm spacing is high due to low deformation resistance and low strain hardening (i.e., low evolution of dislocation density).</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> The compaction behavior of CoCrFeMnNi high-entropy alloy powders of various sizes is studied. </LI> <LI> The size and size-distribution of the powder particles are important factors in the tap density. </LI> <LI> The strength of the matrix is the factor governing the final compact density. </LI> <LI> The simulation densification behaviors are in good agreement with experimental ones. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>
