The role of CRE1 in a thermophilic fungus, Myceliophthora thermophila ATCC42464, was studied using RNA interference. In the cre1-silenced strain C88, the filter paper hydrolyzing activity and β-1,4-endoglucanase activity were 3.76-, and 1.31-fold higher, respectively, than those in the parental strain when the strains were cultured in inducing medium for 6 days. The activities of β-1,4-exoglucanase and cellobiase were 2.64-, and 5.59-fold higher, respectively, than those in the parental strain when the strains were cultured for 5 days. Quantitative reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction showed that the gene expression of egl3, cbh1, and cbh2 was significantly increased in transformant C88 compared with the wild-type strain. Therefore, our findings suggest the feasibility of improving cellulase production by modifying the regulator expression, and an attractive approach to increasing the total cellulase productivity in thermophilic fungi.

In this study, a material with high photocatalytic activity was synthesized using ternary C/N/S-dopedTiO2 nanorod array (TiO2); this was done using a practical and straightforward vapor-phase hydrothermal(VPH) method at a low temperature. The effect of C/N/S content on TiO2 morphology, optical,photocatalytic and photoelectrochemical (PCE) properties of the material was investigated by varying thequality of thiourea. C/N/S-TiO2 reduced the bonding rate of electron-hole pairs and enhances visible lightabsorption, photocatalytic, and PCE properties. The C/N/S doping could significantly adjust theabsorption cut-off wavelengths (407 602 nm) and shorten the bandgap (3.04 2.18 eV) of TiO2. Undersimulated sunlight, 8-C/N/S-TiO2 had the highest photocatalytic efficiency of 97.6% for methylene blue(MB) in 150 min with a rate constant of 0.0192 min 1, which is approximately four times that of TiO2(0.005 min 1). The 8-C/N/S-TiO2 photoelectrode had the lowest transfer resistance for interfacial chargesand highest transient photocurrent of 33.5 mA/cm2, which isfive times higher than that of TiO2 (6.6 mA/cm2). The 8-C/N/S-TiO2 exhibits the most extensive PCE behavior as a photoelectrode, and has a currentdensity of 38.2 mA/cm2 at 2.5VRHE, which is about two times higher than TiO2 (19.1 mA/cm2). Thefavorable sunlight-driven photocatalytic activity is probably due to the synergistic effect of C/N/S-doping,which shifts the valence band maximum of TiO2 upward. This provides new ideas for future solar cellsthat can use dye-sensitized TiO2 nanorod arrays as photoanodes. It is noteworthy that VPH is a veryeffective strategy for fabricating semiconductors doped with multiple nonmetallic elements.
Parallel Gene Loss and Acquisition Among Strains of Different Brucella Species and Biovars

The genus Brucella is divided into six species; of these, B. melitensis and B. abortus are pathogenic to humans, and B. ovis and B. neotomae are nonpathogenic to humans. The definition of gene loss and acquisition is essential for understanding Brucella’s ecology, evolutionary history, and host relationships. A DNA microarray containing unique genes of B. melitensis Type strain 16MT and B. abortus 9-941 was constructed and used to determine the gene contents of the representative strains of Brucella. Phylogenetic relationships were inferred from sequences of housekeeping genes. Gene loss and acquisition of different Brucella species were inferred. A total of 214 genes were found to be differentially distributed,and 173 of them were clustered into 15 genomic islands (GIs). Evidence of horizontal gene transfer was observed for 10GIs. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that the 19 strains formed five clades, and some of the GIs had been lost or acquired independently among the different lineages. The derivation of Brucella lineages is concomitant with the parallel loss or acquisition of GIs, indicating a complex interaction between various Brucella species and hosts.
Transmit Precoder Design for Two-User Broadcast Channel with Statistical and Delayed CSIT

Recent studies have revealed the efficacy of incorporating delayed channel state information at transmit side (CSIT) in transmission scheme design. This paper focuses on transmit precoder design to maximize the ergodic sum-rate in a two-user Multiple-Input Single-Output (MISO) system with delayed and statistical CSIT. A new transmit strategy which precodes signals in all transmit slots is proposed in this paper, denoted as all time-slots precoding Alternative MAT (AAMAT). There is a common procedure in conventional delayed-CSIT based schemes, which is retransmitting the overheard interferences. Since the retransmitting signal is intended to both users, all previous schemes tend to use only one antenna. We however figure out an improvement in spectral efficiency could be realized if all antennas can be utilized. In this paper, we detail the design of the procoder which enabling all antennas and also we compute a lower bound of the ergodic sum-rate in an ideal condition. In addition, simulation results demonstrate the superiority of our proposed scheme.

A tunnel is an essential public facility that enables uninterrupted transportation in crowded cities. Over time, various factors such as ageing and harsh environment could slowly damage the tunnel, leading to cracks and even human loss. There, the tunnel needs to be investigated regularly. Previous maintenance methods have primarily counted on the operators who directly monitor recorded videos to inspect the cracks and determine their seriousness. However, this is a time-consuming and error-prone process. Firstly, this paper introduces a huge tunnel cracks segmentation dataset that contains a total of 170,339 images. Next, a tunnel crack segmentation system that can automatically identify different types of cracks is suggested based on the collected data. The model uses the U-Net structure as the baseline model, with the encoder replaced by a pre-trained Resnet-152 model to improve the effectiveness of the feature extract process. Finally, additional measurements of the detected cracks, such as crack length and crack thickness, are computed.

The dimensions of plants, including their length and width, as well as the size of their leaves, serve as crucial indicators for assessing their growth status. These factors provide essential data for studying plant conditions. This article introduces an algorithm for instance segmentation based on Solo, with the addition of a residual block module to enhance segmentation performance. The original rectified linear unit (ReLU) activation function is replaced with a functional ReLU (PReLU), and an open turnip segmentation dataset is proposed. Experimental results demonstrate that, in comparison to the original model, the average accuracy of the modified model reaches 87.6%, an improvement of approximately 2.0%. The improved algorithm accurately segments turnips and their leaves, exhibiting superior accuracy in measuring both turnip and leaf dimensions. Compared to manual measurements, the average accuracy for turnip length is 97.38%, turnip width is 95.46%, turnip leaf length is 97.79%, and turnip leaf width is 96.13%.

In-band Full-duplex (IBFD) wireless communication allows improved throughput for wireless networks. The current Half-duplex (HD) medium access mechanism Request to Send/Clear to Send (RTS/CTS) has been directly applied to IBFD wireless networks. However, this is only able to support a symmetric dual link, and does not provide the full advantages of IBFD. To increase network throughput in a superior way to the HD mechanism, a novel three-way handshaking access mechanism RTS/SRTS (Second Request to Send)/CTS is proposed for point to multipoint (PMP) IBFD wireless networks, which can support both symmetric dual link and asymmetric dual link communication. In this approach, IBFD wireless communication only requires one channel access for two-way simultaneous packet transmissions. We first describe the RTS/SRTS/CTS mechanism and the symmetric/asymmetric dual link transmission procedure and then provide a theoretical analysis of network throughput and delay using a Markov model. Using simulations, we demonstrate that the RTS/SRTS/CTS access mechanism shows improved performance relative to that of the RTS/CTS HD access mechanism.
