        Parameters Estimation of Hinging Hyperplanes using Median Squared Error Criterion

        This paper considers parameter estimation for nonlinear model using median squared error (MSE) criterion, which is limited to linear model in the past. It is shown that applying MSE, the essence of estimating parameters for hinging hyperplanes (HH) and linear model are the same. Motivated by this fact, MSE estimation is discussed for HH. A local optimality condition is given and based on this condition, an algorithm using linear programming technique is proposed. Numerical experiments show the good performance of the proposed estimation strategy and algorithm.

        Roof failure of shallow tunnel based on simplified stochastic medium theory

        The failure mechanism of tunnel roof is investigated with upper bound theorem of limit analysis. The stochastic settlement and nonlinear failure criterion are considered in the present analysis. For the collapse of tunnel roof, the surface settlement is estimated by the simplified stochastic medium theory. The failure curve expressions of collapse blocks in homogeneous and in layered soils are derived, and the effects of material parameters on the potential range of failure mechanisms are discussed. The results show that the material parameters of initial cohesion, nonlinear coefficient and unit weight have significant influences on the potential range of collapse block in homogeneous media. The proportion of collapse block increases as the initial cohesion increases, while decreases as the nonlinear coefficient and the unit weight increase. The ground surface settlement increases with the tunnel radius increasing, while the possible collapse proportion decreases with increase of the tunnel radius. In layered stratum, the study is investigated to analyze the effects of material parameters of different layered media on the proportion of possible collapse block.

        Transplantation of Gelatin Microspheres Loaded with Wharton's Jelly Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells Facilitates Cartilage Repair in Mice

        Background: Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is a prevalent chronic joint disease caused by various factors. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) therapy is an increasingly promising therapeutic option for osteoarthritis. However, the chronic inflammation of knee joint can severely impede the therapeutic effects of transplanted cells. Gelatin microspheres (GMs) are degradable biomaterial that have various porosities for cell adhesion and cell–cell interaction. Excellent elasticity and deformability of GMs make it an excellent injectable vehicle for cell delivery. Methods: We created Wharton’s jelly derived mesenchymal stem cells (WJMSCs)-GMs complexes and assessed the effects of GMs on cell activity, proliferation and chondrogenesis. Then, WJMSCs loaded in GMs were transplanted in the joint of osteoarthritis mice. After four weeks, joint tissue was collected for histological analysis. Overexpressing-luciferase WJMSCs were performed to explore cell retention in mice. Results: In vitro experiments demonstrated that WJMSCs loaded with GMs maintained cell viability and proliferative potential. Moreover, GMs enhanced the chondrogenesis differentiation of WJMSCs while alleviated cell hypertrophy. In KOA mice model, transplantation of WJMSCs-GMs complexes promoted cartilage regeneration and cartilage matrix formation, contributing to the treatment of KOA. Compared with other groups, in WJMSCs+GMs group, there were fewer cartilage defects and with a more integrated tibia structure. Tracking results of stable-overexpressing luciferase WJMSCs demonstrated that GMs significantly extended the retention time of WJMSCs in knee joint cavity. Conclusion: Our results indicated that GMs facilitate WJMSCs mediated knee osteoarthritis healing in mice by promoting cartilage regeneration and prolonging cell retention. It might potentially provide an optimal strategy for the biomaterial-stem cell based therapy for knee osteoarthritis.       • Is Payment Mode Important? - Evidence from Credit Rating of Bond of China

        The question that whether Issuer-Pay mode is better than Investor-Pay mode or not is controversial in theory and practice. Basing on the credit rating and bond interest rate in Chinese bond market during 2007-2015, this paper finds that credit ratings given under different payment modes are significantly different, and the credit rating given by an investor-paid credit rating agency (CRA) is significantly lower than that given by an issuer-paid CRA for the same bond issuer; moreover, compared to the dual rating by an investor-paid CRA and an issuer-paid CRA, the single rating by an issuer-paid CRA will boost the credit rating and the bond interest rate. The main reason might be that both ratings are informative.

        Polydopamine/β-cyclodextrin/coal fly ash composite for the highly efficient extraction of uranium from water environment

        To obtain a green, low-cost and efficient adsorbent, polydopamine (PDA) and b-cyclodextrin (b-CD) wereadopted to modify coal fly ash (CFA) to prepare polydopamine/b-cyclodextrin/coal fly ash composite(PDA/b-CD/CFA). The successful introduction of PDA and b-CD was proved by FT-IR, XRD and XPS. Theuranium extraction efficiency on PDA/b-CD/CFA reached 95.6% (pH = 5.0, T = 298 K, C0 = 10 mg/L andm/V = 0.2 g/L) and the whole adsorption process was perfectly fitted by the Pseudo-second-order model(R2 = 0.999), illustrating that uranium was extracted via chemisorption. The correlation coefficient R2 ofLangmuir model was 0.999, which was higher than other models, meaning that uranium extractionbehavior on PDA/b-CD/CFA was uniform monolayer adsorption. The maximum extraction capacity of uraniumon PDA/b-CD/CFA calculated by Langmuir model was 537.6 mg/g, which was larger than most ofreported adsorbents, indicating that PDA/b-CD/CFA was a potential candidate for uranium extractionfrom water environment. Moreover, PDA/b-CD/CFA performed excellent uranium extraction propertieswith the existence of coexisting ions and the desorption efficiency of uranium by PDA/b-CD/CFA washigher to 95.8% at the fifth cycles, fully suggesting that PDA/b-CD/CFA possessed good selectivity andcycle stability. Characterization results demonstrated that uranium was immobilized on PDA/b-CD/CFAthrough chelation, complexing action, electrostatic interaction and hydrogen bonding.

        Biochemical Characterization of a Psychrophilic Phytase from an Artificially Cultivable Morel Morchella importuna

        Psychrophilic phytases suitable for aquaculture are rare. In this study, a phytase of the histidine acid phosphatase (HAP) family was identified in Morchella importuna, a psychrophilic mushroom. The phytase showed 38% identity with Aspergillus niger PhyB, which was the closest hit. The M. importuna phytase was overexpressed in Pichia pastoris, purified, and characterized. The phytase had an optimum temperature at 25°C, which is the lowest among all the known phytases to our best knowledge. The optimum pH (6.5) is higher than most of the known HAP phytases, which is fit for the weak acidic condition in fish gut. At the optimum pH and temperature, MiPhyA showed the maximum activity level (2,384.6 ± 90.4 μmol·min<sup>-1</sup>·mg<sup>-1</sup>, suggesting that the enzyme possesses a higher activity level over many known phytases at low temperatures. The phytate-degrading efficacy was tested on three common feed materials (soybean meal/rapeseed meal/corn meal) and was compared with the well-known phytases of Escherichia coli and A. niger. When using the same amount of activity units, MiPhyA could yield at least 3× more inorganic phosphate than the two reference phytases. When using the same weight of protein, MiPhyA could yield at least 5× more inorganic phosphate than the other two. Since it could degrade phytate in feed materials efficiently under low temperature and weak acidic conditions, which are common for aquacultural application, MiPhyA might be a promising candidate as a feed additive enzyme.

        Chemical Compositions and Volatile Compounds of Tricholoma matsutake from Different Geographical Areas at Different Stages of Maturity

        Tricholoma matsutake is a commercially important edible fungus. Volatile compounds, chemical compositions, and nutritional values of fruiting bodies at different stages of maturity from different geographical areas were analyzed. The main volatile compounds in T. matsutake fruiting bodies were (E)-2-octenal, phenylacetaldehyde, 3-octanone, methyl cinnamate, benzaldehyde, and 1- octen-3-ol. Kinds and levels of volatile compounds from different geographical areas varied. As the fruiting bodies aged, levels of methyl cinnamate and 1-octen-3-ol gradually declined. Potassium was the most abundant element in T. matsutake fruiting bodies. Of 17 amino acids detected in fruiting bodies, glutamate was the most abundant. Volatile compounds, chemical compositions, and nutritional values of T. matsutake varied with age and geographical origin and can serve as chemical indicators for classication of T. matsutake from different geographical areas and at different stages of maturity.

        Study on the Influence of Gas Volume Fraction on the Flow Field and Deformation Characteristics of Gas-Liquid Transportation Single Screw Pump

        The existing methods for studying the dynamics, thermodynamics and deformation characteristics of screw pumps do not consider the coupling effect of multi field interaction, which deviates from the actual working conditions. Based on SolidWorks and ANSYS software, a three-dimensional finite element model of a lead of conventional single screw pump is established in this paper. The influence of different gas(GVF) volume fraction on the temperature, pressure, deformation, leakage and volumetric efficiency of screw pump was studied by using the fluid-thermal-solid coupling method. The numerical simulation results of volumetric efficiency changing with the inlet and outlet pressure difference under pure liquid condition were verified by the published literature experimental data, and the optimal installation interference value was proposed. The results show that the GVF has an important influence on the comprehensive deformation of the rotor and pump bushing and the volumetric efficiency of the pump; the comprehensive deformation value of the rotor increases gradually from the inlet to the outlet, and increases gradually with the increase of the GVF; with the increase of GVF, the comprehensive deformation value of stator first decreases gradually, and then increases sharply; with the increase of GVF, the leakage first decreases slowly, then increases rapidly, and the volumetric efficiency first increases slowly, then decreases rapidly; the numerical simulation results are in good agreement with the experimental values, and the average deviation is less than 7%.
