This study was performed to predict some aspects of tidal currents and pollutant dispersion according to the facilities for seawater exchange in order to improve the water quality in Daeheuksando. A numerical simulation was executed, using the hydrodynamic module and advection dispersion module in MIKE 21 program. As a result of hydrodynamic simulation, it did not show change greatly in all cases. But, cutting part of Jungang-breakwater increased greatly than other area. When cut inside part in Jungang-breakwater, pollutant density of Yeri area decreased greatly by the ratio of 0.40 as compared with other cases. Also, dispersion extent diffused whole area of inside sea area of Daeheuksando. This case is the most effective for seawater exchange inside sea area of Jungang-breakwater.
양식장 배출물 발효물의 어류 사료 첨가에 따른 넙치, Paralichthys olivaceus의 혈액학적 변동에 미치는 영향

본 연구는 우리나라 주요 양식어류인 넙치, Paralichthys olivaceus를 대상으로 육상수조식양식장 배출물 발효물의 어류 사료 첨가에 따른 혈액학적 변동에 미치는 영향을 검토하였다. 젖산균 및 효모를 사용하여 발효한 양식장 배출물의 이화학적 분석을 실시하였고, 발효물을 0.1, 0.5, 1.0 및 5.0% 농도로 8주간 투여하였다. 투여 4주째 및 8주째에 각 투여 구간별로 혈액학적 항목을 중심으로 그 차이를 확인하였다. 배출물 발효농도별 유의한 차이는 나타나지 않았지만, 분석시기에 따른 적혈구수, 혈색소 농도 및 혈색소 지수가 증가하는 경향을 나타내었으나, 주요 혈청 무기 및 유기성분은 배출 발효물 농도별로 유의한 차이는 나타나지 않았다. 또한 혈청 효소학적 조사에서는 조사시기별로 변동은 나타났지만, 동일 조시시기에서 각 구간별 유의한 차이는 나타나지 않았다. 따라서 이러한 육상 약식장 유래의 배출물 발효산물에 대한 다양한 방면의 연구가 진행되어야겠다. Effects of oral administration with fermented product from sewage in land-based seawater fish farm on haematological disturbance in the olive flounder, Paralichthys olivaceus was investigated. After 4 weeks of conditioning with a basal diet, fish were divided into 4 groups and provided experimental diet (0.1,0.5, 1.0 and 2.0%) supplement of fermented sewage for 80 days. Proximal analysis was performed for the product of sewage which was fermented by lactic acid and yeast. RBC count, hemoglobin concentration and hematocrit value were increased according to the treated periods, however, no statistical difference was observed between control and treatment groups. There were no significant difference in serum organic, inorganic compounds and enzyme activities between control and treatment groups. This study hypothesized that the supplement of fermented product from sewage in land-based seawater fish farm might be an additive sup plement for source of fish diet in view of haematological examination. Recycling of the sewage may be an economic artificial sources of diet for fish aquaculture practices.

We reported here a 70-year-old woman with small lymphocytic lymphoma who was initially presented with recurrent nephrotic syndrome and later developed multiple bone lytic lesions and monoclonal gammopathy, mimicking plasma cell dyscrasia and only involving bone marrow without lymphadenopathy or hepatosplenomegaly. She responded to combination chemotherapy, including cyclophosphamide and prednisone with proteinuria disappearing. The unusual features of this case includes : (1) nephrotic syndrome of minimal change lesion as the initial manifestion in lymphocytic lymphoma, (2) only bone marrow involvement of lymphoma without organomegaly or lymphadenopathy, (3) the presence of multiple bone lytic lesions in conjunction with monoclonal gammopathy in a patient with lymphoma rather than multiple myeloma.

In this paper, a new revolute cooperating robot arms with 12 d.o.f was developed for autonomous moving robots. The robot arm was designed to have the load capacity of 10 Kg. For this, a new joint actuator based on the fourbar link mechanism was employed. As a control system for the robot arm, a distributed control system was developed composed of the main controller and five motor controller for the arm joints. The main controller and the motor controller were developed using the ARM microprocessor and the TMS320c2407 processor, respectively. To validate the performance of the robot system, an experiment to support 10 Kg payload was performed.
Neurotrophic Corneal Ulcer Development Following Cataract Surgery with a Limbal Relaxing Incision

<P>A 60-year-old man with bilateral corneal opacity underwent cataract extraction surgery involving the use of a limbal relaxing incision in his left eye. He had lower lid ectropion and lagophthalmos in both eyes. Eleven days after the surgery, a slit-lamp examination revealed a neurotrophic corneal ulcer with a punch-out epithelial defect and rolled edges at the center of the pre-existing corneal opacity. The patient was treated with sodium hyaluronate, autologous serum, and oral doxycycline. Six weeks after the surgery an improvement in corneal sensation was observed and the neurotrophic corneal ulcer subsequently healed over the course of one year. In this report, we present a case of neurotrophic keratitis that occurred after performing cataract surgery concurrent with a limbal relaxing incision. As such, we suggest that limbal relaxing incisions should be performed cautiously in patients with causative risk factors for corneal hypesthesia.</P>
Logic inverters based on the property modulated Si nanowires by controlled surface modifications

<P>Silicon nanowires (Si NWs) showing stabilized n-type conductivity, which can be fabricated with high yield by simple surface treatment, are presented in this study. Si NWs were initially fabricated by electroless etching of phosphine-doped n-type Si wafers. At this stage, Si NWs showed large scatter in electrical properties. Once these nanowires were post-annealed in oxidizing ambient and then wet-etched in dilute HF solution, their electrical properties were markedly improved and stabilized to show proper n-type conductivity. Microstructural examination revealed that such improvements and stabilization accompanied flattening of the outer surface and removal of surface defects due to the surface treatment processes. To demonstrate the applicability of these n-type Si NWs to logic devices, a model complementary metal–oxide–semiconductor (CMOS) was prepared by transfer implantation of p- and n-type Si NWs on a poly(4-vinylphenol) layer and this model CMOS showed logic inverter characteristic with controllable gain.</P> <P>Graphic Abstract</P><P>Si nanowires showing stabilized n-type conductivity were prepared by simple surface treatments. Background: The patency of arteriovenous access is important for stable and effective hemodialysis, and long-term technical survival is best achieved with a native arteriovenous .stula (AVF). However, maintaining AVF patency remains a challenge. This study was designed to determine the independent prognostic factors for AVF patency according to hemodialysis duration. Methods: The primary study end point was unassisted patency of the AVF, which was de.ned as the time from the .rst .stula surgery to the .rst AVF failure. AVF failure was de.ned as an event that required percutaneous intervention or surgery to revise or replace the .stula, which occurred at least 2 months after .stula formation. Results: We enrolled 478 patients with a mean age of 55.5714.0 years, and mean duration of dialysis was 2.572.1 years. There were 109 cases (22.8%) of AVF failure. The factors related to AVF patency differed according to hemodialysis duration. Using a Coxadjusted model, we observed a signi.cant correlation between the incidence of AVF failure and diabetes within the initial 12 months of hemodialysis. Uncontrolled hyperphosphatemia (mean serum phosphorus45.5 mg/dL during hemodialysis) was associated with patency loss of AVF after 1 year of hemodialysis. Conclusion: Various factors were associated with the development of patency loss of AVF as hemodialysis duration differed, and a preventive role of hyperphosphatemia control in AVF survival needs further clinical study. The role of inflammation in diabetic kidney disease

Diabetic kidney disease (DKD) has been the leading cause of chronic kidney disease for over 20 years. Yet, over these two decades, the clinical approach to this condition has not much improved beyond the administration of glucose-lowering agents, renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system blockers for blood pressure control, and lipid-lowering agents. The proportion of diabetic patients who develop DKD and progress to end-stage renal disease has remained nearly the same. This unmet need for DKD treatment is caused by the complex pathophysiology of DKD, and the difficulty of translating treatment from bench to bed, which further adds to the growing argument that DKD is not a homogeneous disease. To better capture the full spectrum of DKD in our design of treatment regimens, we need improved diagnostic tools that can better distinguish the subgroups within the condition. For instance, DKD is typically placed in the broad category of a non-inflammatory kidney disease. However, genome-wide transcriptome analysis studies consistently indicate the inflammatory signaling pathway activation in DKD. This review will utilize human data in discussing the potential for redefining the role of inflammation in DKD. We also comment on the therapeutic potential of targeted anti-inflammatory therapy for DKD.
