        Background : In recent years, gonorrhea has been pandemic and remains one of the most common STDs in the world, especially in developing countries. Objective & Methods : For the detection of a more effective therapeutic regimen and assessing the prevalence of PPNG, we have been trying to study the patients who have visited the Venereal Disease Clinic of Choong-Ku Public Health Center in Seoul since 1980 by means of the chromogenic cephalosporin method. Results : In 1997. 99 strains of N. gonorrhoeae were isolated, among which 45(45.5%) were PPNG. Conclusion : The prevalence of PPNG in Seoul, which had been decreased to 39% in 1996 after a peak of 74.3% in 1993, is increased to 45.5% in 1997.

        Stented Graft의 임상경험

        Purpose: Endovascular repair is a alternative treatment with favorable short-term result, but long term results are not available compared to standard operation. The authors have reviewed experiences of Asan Medical Center on stented graft, performed from Aug. 1998 to Feb. 2000, and the results as to age, operative indication, clinical condition, anatomic location, complication, follow-up are reported. Method: Seven patients who has received stented graft between Aug. 1998 and Feb. 2000 are reviewed retrospectively. Result: Of the seven patients, 6 were male and 1 was female. The mean age was 46.4 years (17~71). Indication for stented graft were two pseudoaneurysms, two iatrogenic arterio-venous fistulas, one thoracic aorta aneurysm, one abdominal aortic aneurysm, and one iliac artery occlusion with blue toe syndrome. Three different types of stented graft devices were utilized: Dacron-covered nitinol stented graft (made by the Asan Medical Center medical device team), Vanguard II (by Boston Scientific Corp.), and PTFE with nitinol stented graft (by Tae-woong). There was no perioperative mortality, and the technical success was achieved in five cases (71%). The patency at 14-month were 1009o (5/5). Two immediate complications are hemorrhage due to iliac & femoral artery avulsion requiring emergency bypass grafting, and deployment failure of stented graft requiring removal of retained graft device. Conclusion: Stented graft may be utilized even in complicated vascular situation but will need further development of device and more experience to prevent possible catastrophic complication. Indication should be decided by team approach and vascular surgeon should be prevent or participate during the procedure.

        The purpose of this study was to find out the effects of English anxiety on English achievement according to gender and anxiety levels as 210 elementary students. The major findings are as follows: 1. There is no significant difference in English anxiety according to gender, but there is a significant difference in English achievement according to gender. 2. There is a significant difference in English achievement according to anxiety levels. 3. There is a significant difference and negative correlation between English anxiety and English achievement.

      • 사람 말초 혈액 임파구의 interleukin-2 수용체(Tac 항원)발현 및 증식능의 조절에 대한 연구

        Proliferation of T lymphocytes has been determined by a threshold of signals generated by the interaction between interleukin-2 (IL-2) and its spedific membrane receptor (IL-2R). Regulation of IL-2R expression on the surface of lymphocytes is important in the generation of cytototocix T cells and lymphokine-activated killer (LAK) cells carrying anti-tumor effector functions in the body. To obtain the ideas in designing in vivo immunotherapy using biological response modifiers, this study examined the effects of the interferon(IFN)s, steroid, or colchicine on the IL-2R expression and proliferation of human peripheral blood lymphocytes(PBL). As incubation time was lengthened up to 72 hours, the number of Tac-positive cells and prolongation potential of human PBL upon stimulation wit IL-2 or mitogens were increased. IFN-α resulted in a significant inhibition of IL-2R expression induced by IL-2 but IFN-Υ had no effect. Colchicine or dexaamethasone also inhibited IL-2R expression and cell proliferation induced by IL-2 or mitogens. These findings suggest that IL-2R expression and proliferation of human PBL are inhibited by IFN-α, colchicine, or dexamethasone.

        신피질 세포에서 organic hydroperoxide에 의해 유발된 세포사망

        Background : Previous studies have shown that the hydrogen peroxide induces the cell injury through a lipid peroxidation-independent mechanism in renal epithelial cells. This study was therefore undertaken to examine the roles of lipid peroxidation in t-butylhydroperoxide (tBHP)-induced cell death to renal epithelial cells. Methods : Opossum kidney (OK) cell cultures, a renal tubular epithelial cell line, were used as the renal epithelial cell model. tBHP caused cell death in a dose-dependent manner over the concentration range of 0.05-2 mM. Results : The cell death was effectively prevented by the hydroxyl radical scavenger (dimethylthiourea), iron chelators (deferoxamine and phenanthroline), and antioxidants (DPPD and BHA), but not by the hydrogen peroxide scavenger catalase. tBHP caused a marked increase in lipid peroxidation, which was completely inhibited by DPPD and deferoxamine. tBHP-induced ATP depletion was prevented by deferoxamine and DPPD. Similar protective effects of antioxidants were observed in cell death induced by cumene hydroperoxide, another organic hydroperoxide. However, inorganic hydroperoxide (H2O2)-induced cell death was not altered by antioxidants. tBHP-induced apoptosis was prevented by DPPD and deferoxamine. Conclusions : These results indicate that organic hydroperoxide induces cell death through a lipid peroxidation-dependent mechanism, unlike inorganic hydroperoxide, in renal epithelial cells. 배경:신장 세뇨관 상피세포에서 inorganic hydroperoxide 인 H2O2가 lipid peroxidation-independent mechanism을 통해 세포 상해를 유도한다는 이전 연구 결과가 있었고, 본 연구에서는 신장 세뇨관 상피세포에 organic hydroperoxide인 t-butylhydroperoxide (tBHP)에 의해 유도된 세포사망에 있어 lipid peroxidation이 어떤 역할을 하는지 조사하였다. 방법 : 신피질 세포로는 Opossum Kidney (OK) cell이 이용되었다. tBHP는 0.05-2mM의 범위에서 농도 의존적으로 세포사망을 유도했다. 이러한 세포사망이 hydroxyl기 제거제인 dimethylthiourea, iron chelator인 deferoxamine과 phenanthroline, 항산화제인 DPPD와 BHA, 그리고 H2O2 제거제인 catalase에 의해 어떠한 차이를 나타내는 지를 관찰하였다. 결과 : 세포사망은 dimethylthiourea, deferoxamine과 phenanthroline, DPPD와 BHA에 의해 효과적으로 방지되었으나, catalase에 의해서는 방지되지 않았다. tBHP는 lipid peroxidation을 확연하게 증가시켰으며 이러한 효과는 DPPD와 deferoxamine에 의해 완전히 억제되었다. 또 tBHP에 의해 유도된 ATP 소모도 deferoxamine 과 DPPD에 의해 방지되었다. 항산화제의 이와 같은 방지효과가 다른 organic hydroperoxide인 cumene hydroperoxide에 의해 유도된 세포사망에서도 나타났으나, H2O2에 의해 유도된 세포사망은 영향을 받지 않았다. tBHP가 apoptosis를 유도하였으며, 이는 DPPD와 deferoxamine에 의해 방지되었다. 결론 : 이상의 결과는 신장 세뇨관 상피세포에서 organic hydroperoxide가 inorganic hydroperoxide와 달리 lipid peroxidation-dependent mechanism을 통해 세포사망을 유발함을 의미한다.

      • [논문]ZCS를 이용한 간단한 long pulse CO2 레이저 전원

        30Torr 이하 저압 공진기에서 ms order의 long pulse duration을 가진 간단한 펄스 CO2 레이저를 구현하였다. 레이저 시스템의 새로운 전원은 직접 상용전원을 스위칭한다. 이 새로운 전원의 방전 회로에는 정류기, 축전용 커패시터, 또는 전류 제한용 저항이 필요하지 않다. 레이저 출력을 제어하기 위해 펄스 반복률을 최대 60Hz까지 조절했고,SCR의 스위칭각은 30°에서 150°까지 변화시켰다. ZCS circuit과 PIC one-chip microprocessor는 SCR 게이트 신호를 제어하기 위해서 사용되었다. 18 Torr 압력,60Hz 의 펄스 반복률,SCR 스위칭각 90°에서 최대 레이저 출력 35 W를 얻었다. 또한 다른 CO2 레이저와 비교해서 long 펄스를 얻을 수 있었고 이는 대략 3ms(FWHM) 였다.

        척수손상·비손상인의 신체부위별 신체구성 및 골밀도 비교

        This study was designed to compare segmental body composition and bone mineral density in spinal cord-injured(SCIS; n=9, SCIA; n=9) and non-injured control(AB; n=9) subjects. Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry(DEXA) was used to measure %body fat, body fat mass, lean body mass, bone mineral contents, and bone mineral density in total and various body regions(arms, legs, trunk). The present results showed that body fat mass and %body fat were significantly higher and lean body mass was significantly lower in the SCIS group compared to AB group, while there was no difference between the SCIA and AB group in those of parameters. In BMC, there was no difference among groups and in BMD, SCI group was significantly lower that AB group, but there was no difference between SCIA group and AB group. Based on these results, in can be suggested that long-term regular exercise can reduce the negative changes in body composition, bone mineral density by spinal cord injury.

      • 인산 칼슘을 사용한 수산화아파타이트 시멘트의 응결·경화 특성에 관한 연구

        습식법이나 수열법으로 합성한 hydroxyapatite(HAp)의 분말을 성형, 열처리한 소결체는 지금까지 알려진 바이오 세라믹스 중 생체친화성이 가장 우수한 것으로 입증되고 있으나 소결에 따르는 제조상의 몇가지 문제점을 안고 있다. 본 연구에서는 소결에 의하지 않고 tetracalcium phosphate(TTCP)분말과 dicalcium phosphate dihydrate(DCPD) 분말의 혼합물로 만든 paste를 용해·침전반응으로 응결·경화시켜 직접 HAp 경화체를 얻고, 이때 몇가지 변수가 HAp의 생성과 응결 및 경화특성에 미치는 영향을 검토하였다. TTCP와 DCPD로 조합한 시멘트의 수화반응생성물은 HAp 경화체였으며 이의 미소결정의 interlocking에 의해 응결·경화 하였다. 반응온도 및 HAp 종자의 첨가는 주로 초기단계의 반응속도에 영향을 주었다. 50℃에서의 HAp 생성 반응은 24시간 이내에 거의 완료되었다. Hydroxyapatite ceramics, one of the excellent biocompatible materials, are usually prepared by sintering of hydroxyapatite powders from wet chemical methods. But some problems caused by sintering process are still remained. In this study, instead of powder sintering methods. hardened bodies of hydroxyapatite were prepared by self-hardening reaction of cement paste composed of powdered tetracalcium phosphate(TTCP) and dicalcium phosphate dihydrate(DCPD). Some effects of seeding, reaction temperature on setting and hardening properties were investigated . The hydration products of the hardened paste were composed of finely-crystallized hydroxyapatite which causes setting and hardening by interlocking themselves. Self setting and hardening reaction are accelerated by elevating reaction temperature and addition of hydroxyapatite powders as a seeding materials. The hydration reaction of the paste. at 50C. was nearly finished within 24 hours after mixing with water.

      • Streptococcus mutans의 치태형성에 대한 Leuconostoc lactis 51의 영향

        Dental caries is a bacterial disease of the dental hard tisssus, characterized by a localized, progressive, molecular disintegration of tooth structure. The action of Leuconostoc lactis 51 about plaque formation and replication by Streptococcus mutans was studied as follows. 1. Lower amount of plaque was produced at the mixed culture of S. mutans and L. lactis 51 than S. mutans alone on the wires in the beaker. 2. Fewer cells of S. mutans were replicated at the mixed culture of S. mutans and L. lactis 51 than S. mutans alone. 3. In M17Y broth, viable cells of S. mutans and L. lactis 51 increased for 12 hours, and decreased for 24 hours. In M17YS broth, viable cells of S. mutans showed time-dependent decrease at mixed culture of S. mutans and L. lactis 51. 4. The culture supernatant of L. lactis 51 didn't inhibit the replication of S. mutans and the formation of artificial plaque. 5. Sucrose and frutose were extracted from the culture supernatant of L. lactis 51 in M17YS broth. These results suggest that L. lactis 51 isolated from the oral cavity inhibits the replication of S. mutans and the formation of artificial plaque.
