Background/Aims: Crohn’s disease (CD) primarily affects young female adults of reproductive age. Few studies have been conducted on this population’s ovarian reserve status. The aim of study was to investigate potential risk factors associated with low ovarian reserve, as reflected by serum anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) in women of reproductive age with CD. Methods: This was a case-control study. Cases included 87 patients with established CD, and healthy controls were matched by age, height and weight in a 1:1 ratio. Serum AMH levels were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Results: The average serum AMH level was significantly lower in CD patients than in control group (2.47±2.08 ng/mL vs. 3.87±1.96 ng/mL, respectively, P<0.001). Serum AMH levels were comparable between CD patients and control group under 25 years of age (4.41±1.52 ng/mL vs. 3.49±2.10 ng/mL, P=0.06), however, serum AMH levels were significantly lower in CD patients over 25 years of age compared to control group (P<0.05). Multivariable analysis showed that an age greater than 25 (odds ratio [OR], 10.03; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.90-52.93, P=0.007), active disease state (OR, 27.99; 95% CI, 6.13-127.95, P<0.001) and thalidomide use (OR, 15.66; 95% CI, 2.22-110.65, P=0.006) were independent risk factors associated with low ovarian reserve (serum AMH levels <2 ng/mL) in CD patients. Conclusions: Ovarian reserve is impaired in young women of reproductive age with CD. Age over 25 and an active disease state were both independently associated with low ovarian reserve. Thalidomide use could result in impaired ovarian reserve. (Intest Res 2020; 18:200-209)

Objective: To investigate the antiemetic effect of gingerol and its multi-targets effective mechanism on 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT), dopamine (DA) and substance P (SP). The antiemetic effect of gingerol was investigated on a vomiting model of mink induced by cisplatin (7.5 mg· kg−1, i.p.) in 6 h observation. The levels of 5-HT, DA and distribution of substance P in the area postrema and ileum were measured by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and immunohistochemistry respectively. The frequency of cisplatin induced retching and vomiting was significantly reduced by pretreatment with gingerol in a dose-dependent manner (P<0.05). Cisplatin produced a significant increase in 5-HT and DA levels in the area postrema and ileum of minks (P<0.05), and this increase was significantly inhibited by gingerol in a dose-dependent manner (P<0.05). Substance P-immunoreactive was mainly situated in the mucosa and submucosa of ileum as well as in the neurons of area postrema, and gingerol markedly suppressed the increase immunoreactivity of substance P induced by cisplatin in a dose-dependent manner (P<0.05). Gingerol has good activity against cisplatin-induced emesis in minks possibly by inhibiting central or peripheral increase of 5-HT, DA and substance P.

A series of AgOx thin films were prepared by the DC-magnetron reactive-sputtering method at room temperature under different sputtering power and oxygen to argon ratio conditions. The optical properties of the AgOx films were studied by analysis of the spectroscopic ellipsometry data with the Tauc-Lorentz multi-oscillator model in the 1.5 4.5-eV photon-energy range. The spectra of absorption, XPS and PL were measured. The results indicate that the AgOx film changes from metallic to dielectric structure with increasing oxygen flux. Under the saturated oxidation condition after annealing, the dominating component will be Ag2O in the film to show indirect interband transitions occurring at about 0.57 eV and 2.43 eV, respectively, that are in agreement with the results of PL measurement and Lorentz analysis.

Jiang Zhao,Debo Wang,Yue Chen,Qiu Jin,Guoqing Wang 성균관대학교(자연과학캠퍼스) 성균나노과학기술원 2016 NANO Vol.11 No.5
Cupric Oxide (CuO) nanowires have been successfully synthesized by direct thermal oxidation of Cu film in air. The morphologies and structures of the synthesized materials are investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The results imply that CuO nanowires with well vertical arrays present very narrow sharp peaks, indicating the nanowires are highly crystalline. The effect of ultraviolet (UV) illumination on the field emission characteristics of the CuO nanowires is investigated. The turn-on electric field of UV-illuminated CuO nanowires decreases and the field enhancement factor enhances.

Phytoestrogens were widely used as natural alternatives to estrogen for treating cardiovascular diseases. They have been reported to have cardioprotective and antiinflammatory response, but the mechanisms remain unclear. In this study, we found cryptotanshinone and wogonin exhibited phytoestrogenic property in an estrogen- responsive reporter assay. In EA.hy926 cells, treatment of cryptotanshinone and wogonin led to significant increase in NO production levels, which were inhibited by co-incubation of estrogen receptor (ER)a antagonist methyl-piperidino-pyrazole (MPP). The expression of endothelial NO synthase (eNOS) and ERa were up-regulated with the same treatment, indicating they stimulate NO and eNOS expression via ERa-dependent pathway in endothelial cells. While in lipopolysaccharide activated vascular smooth muscle cell line A7r5, cryptotanshinone and wogonin exerted anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting NO and inducible NO synthase expression via ERbdependent pathway. The reduction of NO synthesis was not affected by MPP, and was abrogated by ERb antagonist R,R-tetrahydrochrysene. Our findings provide the potential molecular mechanism of cryptotanshinone and wogonin as phytoestrogens for their cardioprotective effects, which exerted regulatory effects on NO synthesis through differential regulation of estrogen receptors. It can be employed as a basis for evaluating the beneficial effects of phytoestrogens in the treatment of patients at risk of cardiovascular disease.

Prostate cancer is one of the most prevalent malignant cancers in men. The isoflavone formononetin is a main active component of red clover plants. In the present study, we assessed the effect of formononetin on human prostate cancer DU-145 cells in vitro, and elucidated posssible mechanisms. DU-145 cells were treated with different concentrations of formononetin and cell proliferation was assessed by MTT assay, cell apoptosis by Hoechst 33258 and flow cytometry, and protein levels of RASD1, Bcl-2 and Bax by Western blotting. The results showed that formononetin inhibited the proliferation of DU-145 cells in a dose-dependent manner. DU-145 cells treated with different concentrations of formononetin displayed obvious morphological changes of apoptosis under fluorescence microscopy. In addition, formononetin increased the proportion of early apoptotic DU-145 cells, down-regulated the protein levels of Bcl-2 and up-regulated those of RASD1 and Bax. The level of RASD1 reached its maximum at 48h post-treatment, and rapidly decreased thereafter. Together, we present evidence that formononetin triggered cell apoptosis through the mitochondrial apoptotic pathway by up-regulating RASD1.
Prediction of dryout-type CHF for rod bundle in natural circulation loop under motion condition
Huang, Siyang,Tian, Wenxi,Wang, Xiaoyang,Chen, Ronghua,Yue, Nina,Xi, Mengmeng,Su, G.H.,Qiu, Suizheng Korean Nuclear Society 2020 Nuclear Engineering and Technology Vol.52 No.4
In nuclear engineering, the occurrence of critical heat flux (CHF) is complicated for rod bundle, and it is much more difficult to predict the CHF when it is in natural circulation under motion condition. In this paper, the dryout-type CHF is investigated for the rod bundle in a natural circulation loop under rolling motion condition based on the coupled analysis of subchannel method, a one-dimensional system analysis method and a CHF mechanism model, namely the three-fluid model for annular flow. In order to consider the rolling effect of the natural circulation loop, the subchannel model is connected to the one-dimensional system code at the inlet and outlet of the rod bundle. The subchannel analysis provides the local thermal hydraulic parameters as input for the CHF mechanism model to calculate the occurrence of CHF. The rolling motion is modeled by additional motion forces in the momentum equation. First, the calculation methods of the natural circulation and CHF are validated by a published natural circulation experiment data and a CHF empirical correlation, respectively. Then, the CHF of the rod bundle in a natural circulation loop under both the stationary and rolling motion condition is predicted and analyzed. According to the calculation results, CHF under stationary condition is smaller than that under rolling motion condition. Besides, the CHF decreases with the increase of the rolling period and angular acceleration amplitude within the range of inlet subcooling and mass flux adopted in the current research. This paper can provide useful information for the prediction of CHF in natural circulation under motion condition, which is important for the nuclear reactor design improvement and safety analysis.
