The effects of Matricaria recutita and α-bisabolol, a bioactive component from Chamomile species, were investigated against gastric damage induced by absolute ethanol (96%, 1mL per animal) in rats. The effects of M. recutita extract and α-bisabolol on gastric mucosal damage were assessed by determination of changes in mean gastric lesion area. Mechanistic studies were carried out at with 100mg/kg α-bisabolol. We further examined the possible participation of prostaglandins, nitric oxide, and K+ATP channels in its mechanism. M. recutita reduced gastric damage in all doses tested. α-Bisabolol at oral doses of 50 and 100mg/kg markedly attenuated the gastric lesions induced by ethanol to the extent of 87% and 96%, respectively. Pretreatments with the nitric oxide antagonist N-nitro-l-arginine methyl ester (10mg/kg, i.p.) or with indomethacin, an inhibitor of cyclooxygenase, failed to block effectively the gastroprotective effect of α-bisabolol. Furthermore, the α-bisabolol effect was significantly reduced in rats pretreated with glibenclamide, an inhibitor of K+ATP channel activation. Thus we provide evidence that α-bisabolol reduces the gastric damage induced by ethanol, at least in part, by the mechanism of activation of K+ATP channels.

Eucalyptus gall wasp, Leptocybe invasa is one of the most important invasive pests of Eucalyptus (Myrtaceae) and has been reported in new cultivation areas worldwide. This pest causes severe damage to susceptible plants of the genus Eucalyptus, where it induces galls in the midribs and petioles of young leaves and the internodes of branch and apices. In this work, we evaluated the response of Eucalyptus clones (E. urophylla (Urophylla) and two clone hybrids, one of the E. urophylla × E. camaldulensis (Urocam) and other of E. urophylla × E. grandis (Urograndis) crossings.) submitted to L. invasa collected from areas where L. invasa was recently reported. Our results show that the eucalypt materials cultivated in the areas where L. invasa were reported sensitive to L. invasa attacks. However, the wasp causes fewer galls in the Urocam clone. Thus, the Urocam clone can be preferred for use to reduce population growth of L. invasa in Brazilian savannah areas.
Lentinula edodes (Shiitake) Modulates Chemically Induced Mutagenesis by Enhancing Pitting

This study was undertaken to understand how Lentinula edodes modulates in vivo mutagenesis induced by alkylating agents in bone marrow and peripheral blood as described in our previous article. Male Swiss mice were pretreated for 15 consecutive days with aqueous extracts prepared from L. edodes, after which, the number of circulating blood cells, normal erythroid bone marrow cell cycling, and phagocytosis of micronucleated reticulocyte (MNRET) and activation of spleen macrophages were assessed. The results indicate that the antimutagenicity seen in bone marrow and peripheral blood is exerted by distinct compounds with different actions. The antimutagenic effect in bone marrow is exerted by compounds subject to degradation at deep-freeze storage temperature of - 20 C. On the other hand, compounds responsible for antimutagenicity in peripheral blood are not subject to degradation at - 20 C. The results also indicate that the antimutagenic action in peripheral blood leading to the reduction of circulating MNRET occurs in the spleen primarily through a phagocytic activity due to higher macrophage numbers and probably not due to the enhanced activation state of individual cells.
Glass beads coated with chitosan for the food azo dyes adsorption in a fixed bed column
M.L.G. Vieira,V.M. Esquerdo,L.R. Nobre,G.L. Dotto,L.A.A. Pinto 한국공업화학회 2014 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.20 No.5
Glass beads were coated with chitosan (GBCC) by dip-coating technique, and the effects of chitosan solution concentration and cure method were evaluated. GBCC were used for food azo dyes adsorption in a fixed bed column. The chitosan solution concentration of 0.5% and the physicochemical cure were the more suitable for the glass beads coating. The maximum capacity of the adsorption column ranged of 13.5–108.7 mg g-1 and the removal percentage ranged of 40.9–74.7%. Three dynamic models were used, and they showed adequate to represent the breakthrough curves. The column regeneration was possible for five adsorption–desorption cycles.
Spectroscopic Evidence for Aggregation of Stilbene Derivatives in Solution
Aguiar, M.,Akcelrud, L.,Pinto, M.R.,Atvars, T.D.Z.,Karasz, F.E.,Saltiel, Jack Korean Society of Photoscience 2003 Journal of Photosciences Vol.10 No.1
The absorption, fluorescence and fluorescence-excitation spectra of concentrated toluene solutions of selected para substituted trans-stilbene derivatives provide strong evidence for aggregation. A red-shifted fluorescence spectrum peaking at 420 nm gains in intensity as the stilbene concentration is increased. The excitation spectrum of this new emission is well to the red of the normal stilbene absorption spectrum, consistent with the appearance of a red shifted shoulder in the UV spectrum. Formation of a fluorescent ground state dimer (or higher aggregate) is proposed to account for these observations. The presence of polar substituents is crucial to the formation of this ground state complex.

This paper compares the effect of using different types of iron powders for the preparation of by calciothermic reduction-diffusion (CRD). Three types of iron powder were used: carbonyl, sponge and water atomized. The results show that, when immediately nitrogenated after the CRD process, prepared from sponge and water atomized iron powders yield -magnets with a high degree of texture. However, after a suitable treatment with hydrogen followed by nitrogenation, -powders made from Carbonyl iron produce magnets with the best quality regarding coercivity, remanence and degree of texture.

A. Shannon,D. Orozova,E. Sotirova,K. Atanassov,M. Krawczak,P. Melo-Pinto,R. Nikolov,S. Sotirov,T. Kim(김태균) 한국지능시스템학회 2008 한국지능시스템학회 학술발표 논문집 Vol.18 No.1
In a series of research papers, the authors have studied some of the most important models of a contemporary universities, such as: the research university, the entrepreneurial university and the digital university and construct their Generalized Net (GN) models. This paper is based on the case-studies of Sofia University, the Technical University of Munich and the University of Edinburgh. The main focus is to put the analysis of the processes of the functioning of a university which effectively integrates Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in all university activities. A concrete example based on the process of course administration at University of Edinburgh is considered. This university is in a process of developing an integrated information system covering most of the university activities. The opportunity of using GNs as a tool for modeling such processes is analyzed as well.

The Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute plans to develop a coronagraph in collaboration with National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and to install it on the International Space Station (ISS). The coronagraph is an externally occulted one-stage coronagraph with a field of view from 3 to 15 solar radii. The observation wavelength is approximately 400~nm, where strong Fraunhofer absorption lines from the photosphere experience thermal broadening and Doppler shift through scattering by coronal electrons. Photometric filter observations around this band enable the estimation of 2D electron temperature and electron velocity distribution in the corona. Together with a high time cadence ($<$12~min) of corona images used to determine the geometric and kinematic parameters of coronal mass ejections, the coronagraph will yield the spatial distribution of electron density by measuring the polarized brightness. For the purpose of technical demonstration, we intend to observe the total solar eclipse in August 2017 with the filter system and to perform a stratospheric balloon experiment in 2019 with the engineering model of the coronagraph. The coronagraph is planned to be installed on the ISS in 2021 for addressing a number of questions (e.g., coronal heating and solar wind acceleration) that are both fundamental and practically important in the physics of the solar corona and of the heliosphere.
