        In Vitro Antiviral Activity of Ribavirin Against Severe Fever with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome Virus Myung Jin LEE1, Kye-Hyung KIM1, Jongyoun YI2, SuJin CHOI1, Chung-Jong KIM1, Nak- Hyun KIM1, Kyoung-Ho SONG1, Pyoeng Gyun CHOI1, Ji-Hwan BANG1, Wan Beom PARK1, Eu Suk KIM1, Sang-Won PARK1, Hong Bin KIM1, Nam Joong KIM1, Myoung- Don OH1 Seoul National University College of Medicine, Korea1, Pusan National University School of Medicine, Korea2 Background: Severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS) is an emerging infectious disease caused by a novel Bunyavirus, severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome virus (SFTSV). No effective antiviral therapy is proven yet, but clinical use of ribavirin (RBV) has been tried. We investigated the antiviral effect of RBV against SFTSV in vitro. Methods: To test for cytotoxicity of RBV, Vero cells were treated with different concentrations of RBV (3.90 to 500 μg/mL, two-fold dilution) and analyzed by cell viability MTS assay 48h post-infection. To determine antiviral activity of RBV against SFTSV, Vero cells were infected with SFTSV strain Gangwon/Korea/2012 at 100 TCID50 (50% tissue culture infective dose) per well in a 96-well plate, and RBV was added at the concentrations showing no or minimal cytotoxicity. Viral RNAs were extracted from the culture supernatants and quantifi ed using one-step real-time reverse transcription- PCR to amplify the partial large segment of SFTSV. Statistical analysis was done by one-way ANOVA with Tukey`s post hoc test. Results: Cytotoxicity due to RBV was not observed at RBV concentration =31.3 μg/ mL. Viral RNAs at 24h post-RBV treatment were reduced with increasing RBV concentrations (1-32 μg/mL), compared with those of mock-treated cells (P <0.01, Figure). Half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) of RBV was 3.69 μg/mL at 24h post-RBV treatment. Conclusions: Our study shows that RBV has antiviral effect against SFTSV in a dose-dependent manner. Further studies are required to evaluate the effi cacy of RBV in SFTS.

      • 최근 10년간 원광의대병원에서 시행한 소아 심장혈관 수술의 임상적 고찰

        We reviewed 10 years experiences of the clinical aspects and early postoperative results in 544 pediatric patients(age less than 16 years old). Among them. 529 cases had the congenital heart diseases, and 15 had the acquired diseases. Open heart surgery was performed in 413 patients. 115 cases were treated with non-open heart surgery. 16 with interventional catheterization. Annual increase of the cardiac patients was not significant in recent 10 years, except slight increase in 1994. The mean age of the study patients had been evidently changed to younger year by year. Total mortality rate of the open heart surgery was 6.4%. The cyanotic congenital heart diseases were high in early postoperative mortality by 25.7%, whereas 4% in acyanotic group. The age group less than one month was most highest in surgical mortality(66.7%). There were no deaths in patients with patent ductus arteriosus(103 cases), atrial septal defect(83 cases) or pulmonary stenosis(17 cases). Among 220 patients with ventricular septal defects(VSD). 10(4.5%) were died early postoperatively. In cyanotic group, the patients with pulmonary atresia with ventricular septal defects(PAVSD), transposition of the great arteries(TGA), interrupted aortic arch(IAA), complex cardiac anomalies with isomerism seemed to be most susceptible to an early death.

        유년기 안구적출술 및 방사선치료로 인하여 발생된 안와 열성장에 대한 재건 치험례

        There are many reports of the surgical management for the craniofacial abnormalities arising from the irradiation of the head and face for treatment of childhood cancers. Since the mordern combined-modality theraphy for childhood cancers began in the late 1960s and the early 1970s, recent reports have described the occular, dental and maxillo-facial abnormalities after irradiation in long-term survivors of cancers of the head and face. The resultant deformities may be known to be difficult to reconstruct with surgical techniques. This paper describes the late reconstructive surgery for the unilateral orbital and malar hypoplasia after eyeball enucleation and irradiation during childhood to correct the facial asymmetry and expand the contracted orbital socket into the functional dimension for the retaining eyeball prosthesis with spherical implant. We reports the satisfactory preliminary results from the midfacial osteotomy through the supero-lateral orbital rim and malar bone and the antero-lateral repositioning with the autogenous bone grafting in 26 year-old female patient who will be planned to make the new eyeball prosthesis by the department of ophthalmology.

        The purpose of this study is to search for the factory of protocol and develop an effective physical activity program for mental retardation. For this study, many kinds of contents were investigated and generalized physical activity program. The conclusions of this study are as follow; First, component element of physical activity for mental retardation, can be classified into four kinds of development such as motor skill, advancement of human knowledge, emotionally stable, and sociality, physical activity improves the physical strength of mental retardation and physical build. It also develops advancement of human knowledge, emotionally stable, and sociality. Second, program structure can be classified in to four kinds of contents such as equipment, instructor, teaching method and program. We have to prepare the appropriate equipment with considering their abilities and age to offer physical activity. Instructor also should have experiences in the field of mental retardation such as understanding their specific character and knowledge of the various physical activity program. Finally, physical activity program require that the program should be made of sensory-exercise, slackness-exercise, physical strength-exercise, motor skill, rhythm-exercise and swimming.

        A new neural network structure called Self-Organized Distributed Networks (SODN) is proposed for developing the neural network-based multi-dimensional system models. The learning with the proposed networks is fast and precise. Such properties are caused from the local learning mechanism. The SODN is a hybrid structure of a learning network and a distribution network. The learning network is composed of a set of subnetworks while the distribution network composed of a set of self-organized units. With this structure, the SODN provides a better interpolation than the conventional locally distributed networks (especially RBF networks). In this paper, comparisons with multilayer neural network and RBF networks have been done through learning of two dimensional terrain elevation data.

        Currently we are facing a rapid developing age of information. Access to a wider than ever possible range of living information has been made possible to the swiftly expanding development of information communication technology. In accordance with this situation, the information-oriented education is gradually expanding in school. Also educational software has been lively developed to use directly in the class of technical high school. The purpose of this study is to complete and develop a Basic Electrical Virtual Lab System to practice basic electrical experiments. The students can easily understand the basic theories and rules by testing them using the system made by themselves. In this Basic Electrical Virtual Lab System it was able to complete the topics for the determination of the resistor value, resistor's connection, Kirchhoff's law, and to develop condensers connection, Ohm's law newly. The students get the same results just like in real experiments because the program is developed to simulate the real experiments. The virtual experiment site can be accessed easily by internet and an experiment is performed based on individual basis without restriction of location and time. This program can be used as fully the real experiment substitution or supplementary educational materials. In both case, it provides many benefits in education.

        The art of physical exercise should be considered in relation to physical strength. The energy source of physical strength can be compared with that of a battery. There are various elements in a battery such as voltage, storage of elect icily and amount of electric current; these elements can be compared to those of running speed and distance. Training aims at shifting these various elements. In short distance running when victory or defeat is decided within a short period of time, the capability of discharging voltage and electric current is important. Physical strength is represented by muscular contraction, assisted by respiration and by the duration of muscular contraction. In a marathon, electric current is more important than voltage. In order to increase generating capacity. a steady flow of current is required. The problem is how the generating capacity can be used in accordance with purpose. Simply increasing muscular contraction can not be the sole goal of exercise since muscle has both functional and physical contradiction. There are two physical contradictory elements, viscosity and elasticity. and two functional contradictory elements speed and power of muscular contraction. Considering these contradictions. readapting training is needed to adapt the muscles to the sport. This paper attempts to show how physical strength can he improved through an explanation of the different running technics required far short distance and marathon running.

      • 한반도 지진특성을 고려한 설계지진 결정에 관한 연구

        Because of the frequent occurrence of the earthquakes In Korean Peninsula, it increases that the earthquake resistant design is necessary, and the design earthquake value should be estimated for the earthquake resistant design. Then, it is given in this study, the historical and instrumental earthquake data in Korean Peninsula, and those data are analyzed by applying the extreme probability distribution function and Weibull distribution function. In extreme probability distribution function, the modified first and the third asymptotic functions of the largest value theory are applied to obtain the return periods and probabilities of exceedance, and the least square method is used to estimate the parameter. In Weibull distribution function, the maximum likelihood estimate is used to estimate the parameter. The period-frequency spectrum, probability density spectrum, fourier spectrum and response spectrum analysis are peformed based on the measured seismic wave of Korean Peninsula, which are the basis of the design spectrum. It was investigated from the above performed results that the responses of the structures were influenced by the frequency contents of the data to a high degree.

        한국산 배의 Polyphenol 화합물군이 쥐의 면역기능에 미치는 영향

        This study was conducted to investigate immunofunctional activity of the polyphenol fractions isolated from Korean pear. In the experimental of Rosette forming cell, the results showed that all the polyphenol fractions enhance the cell count compared with the control group. Especially polyphenol fraction II and III showed highly significant effect on Rosette forming cell, and allergy inhibition. After antigen challenge, histamine content of blood of the polyphenol groups was lowered to near the normal group.

      • 氣化器붙이 機關의 共給燃料 氣化率에 關한 基礎硏究

        This study has been made to observe the effect of vaporization of injected fuel under the several important factors on the carburetor for gasoline engine. To measure the vaporization rate of mixture in the carburetor, the key point of consideration for divising the cyclone which is devised to be able to separated injected fuel with drop diameter 10-30㎛. By using a transparent tube type model of the carburetor, like one of conventional gasoline engines, this experiment has been performed. Results of the study are summarized as follow. 1. In the conditions of this study, Ve=12.6 - 50.4㎧, θ=30 - 90, t = 25.℃ - 50℃, the vaporization rate is 10-50% 2. The vaporization rate increase in proportion to decreasing of throttle valve angle, to rising air temperature and growing air - fuel ratio. 3. When air velocity is increased, the injected fuel flows with thin thickness of liquid film on the inner wall of intake pipe. As air temperature is increased, it flows with more thin.
