        Clinical Manifestations and Treatment Outcomes of Eosinophilic Gastroenteritis in Children

        Purpose: The aim of the present study was to investigate the clinical features and outcome of eosinophilic gastro-enteritis (EGE) in children.Methods: Our study enrolled 24 children who were diagnosed with EGE from 1993 to 2014 at the Department of Pediatrics, Seoul National University Children’s Hospital. The patients’ clinical manifestations, treatments, and out-comes were reviewed from the medical records.Results: The mean age at diagnosis was 5.3 years. Most patients had gastrointestinal symptoms including diarrhea (54.2%) and abdominal pain (45.8%). Peripheral eosinophilia was present in 91.7% of the patients. Thirteen patients (54.2%) showed anemia, and 15 patients (62.5%) had hypoalbuminemia. EGE was classified as mucosal, sub-serosal, or muscular in 75.0%, 20.8%, and 4.2% of cases, respectively. Three patients showed gastroduodenal ulcers upon endoscopic analysis. A history of allergy was reported in 13 patients, including atopic dermatitis, allergic rhinitis, and asthma. Five patients (20.8%) improved with food restrictions. Among the 19 patients treated with steroids, 11 (57.9%) discontinued steroid treatment without subsequent relapse, 4 (21.1%) relapsed after ceasing steroid treat-ment, and 4 (21.1%) showed no response to steroids. Two patients who were resistant to steroids underwent ther-apeutic surgery. The presence of gastroduodenal ulcers was significantly associated with relapse and steroid resistance.Conclusion: A high suspicion of EGE is warranted when children have nonspecific gastrointestinal symptoms and peripheral eosinophilia. Most patients improved with food restrictions or steroid treatment, although one-third of pa-tients showed a relapse or steroid resistance.

        The toxicity test of ammonium persulfate was conducted to ensure of its potential toxic effects according to the single-dose acute oral toxicity study (OECD Guideline 423) and 90-day repeated dose sub-chronic oral toxicity study guideline (OECD Guideline 408) for establishing national chemical management system, and matching in the Globally Harmonized Classification System (GHS) category. In acute oral toxicity study, pasty stool, perineal contamination and temporary body weight decrease were observed after dosing 1st and 2nd challenge (300 mg/kg body weight). All test animals were dead within 6 hours after dosing at 3rd challenge (2000 mg/kg body weight). Therefore, the GHS class of test substance is considered class 4. In sub-chronic toxicity study, body weight changes, food consumptions, hematological, biochemical and pathological examination did not show any noticeable and significant differences between the administered (5, 20, 80 mg/kg body weight) and control (vehicle only) group animals. Based on these results, the no observed adverse effect level (NOAEL) is considered above 80 mg/kg body weight.

        합천호 수질 및 영양단계에 대한 평가

        호수 유입 하천인 황강의 1996~2001년 년도별 평균 수질은 COD 3.1~4,2 mg/L, T-N 2.460~3.550 mg/L, T-P 0.111~0.201 mg/L이였다. 호수내의 평균 수질은 COD가 1996년 1.9 mg/L에서 2001년 2.7 mg/L로 매년 조금씩 종가하는 것으로 나타났다. 호수내의 1996~2001년 년도별 평균 T-N 농도는 1.393~l.792 mg/L 이었으며, T-P농도는 0.018~0.023 mg/L 이였다. 식물성 플랑크톤의 발생 정도를 나타내는 Chl-α와 T-N, T-P와의 상관계수는 각각 0,382, 0.372였으며, 또한 수온과 강우량에 대한 상관계수는 각각 0.589, 0,526이였다. 따라서 합천댐의 경우 식물성 플랑크톤의 발생이 T-N, T-P보다 수온 및 강수량과 더 밀접한 관계가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 호수의 영양단계는 중영양~부영양 단계에 있는 것으로 평가되었다. The yearly average water qualifies of the Whang river, which flows into the Hapcheon lake, were COD 3.1~4.2 mg/L, T-N 2.460~3.550 mg/L, and T-P 0.111~0.201 mg/L during 1996~2001. The yearly average COD concentration of Hapcheon lake was increased from 1.9 mg/L (in 1996) to 2.7 mg/L (in 2000). However, T-N and T-P concentration of Hapcheon lake did not show increasing trend over the 6 year period. During 1996~2001, the yearly average concentrations of T-N, T-P were 1.383?1.792 mg/L, 0.018~0.023 mg/L, respectively. The correlation coefficients between chlorophyll α and T-N, T-P, rainfall intensity, water temperature were 0.382, 0372, 0.589, and 0.526, respectively. Therefore, the rainfall and water temperature appeared to play an important role for the variations of chlorophyll α concentration in the Hapcheon lake. Trophic state of the Hapcheon lake were evaluated to be in the range of mesotrophic to eutrophic.

      • EIA-709.1 Control Network Protocol을 이용한 필드버스 시스템 구현

        EIA-709.1 Control Network Protocol is the basic protocol of LonWorks systems that is emerging as a fieldbus device. In this paper, the protocol is implemented by using VHDL with FPGA and C program on an Intel 8051 processor. The protocol from the physical layer to the network layer of EIA-709.1 is implemented in a hardware leval. So it decreases the load of the CPU for implementing the protocol. We verify the commercial feasibility of the hardware through the communication test with Neuron Chip, based on EIA-709.1 protocol, which is used in industrial fields. The developed protocol based on FPGA becomes one of IP and we are able to implement SOC for the terminal device in the distributed control systems. Also, the result can be applicable to various industrial field because it is implemented by VHDL.

      • 인공호에서의 강수와 저수율에 따른 수질변화

        수도 전용 댐으로 사용하고 있는 인공호인 가창 댐에서 강수와 저수율에 따른 수질 변화를 조사 분석하기 위하여 1993년 1월부터 1994년 7월까지 정기적으로 매일 취수하여 실험한 상수 원수의 이화학적 수질 성적과 강수와 저수율의 자료로서 관련성을 분석한 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 강수 유무에 따라 탁도, 용존산소, 전기전도도, pH는 통계적으로 유의한 차이를 보였다. 저수율 변화에 따라서는 탁도, KMnO₄소비량, 용존산소, 알칼리도, 전기전도도등 pH 각 항목모두에서 유의한 차이가 있었다. (p〈0.01). 이화학적 수질 항목은 계절에 따라 영향을 받는 것으로 나타났다. (p〈0.01). 탁도는 여름에 가장 높았고 KMnO₄소비량은 가을에 높았으며, 용존산소는 여름에 낮았다. 알칼리도는 가을에 낮았고, 전기전도도는 여름에 높았으며, pH는 여름에 낮게 나타났다. 이화학적 수질 항목에 대한 다변량분석 결과 탁도, KMnO₄소비량, 용존산소, 알칼리도, 전기전도도, pH 각 항목에 있어 강수는 유의한 변수가 아니었고 저수율과 계절은 수질 항목 모두에서 유의한 변수로 나타났다. (p〈0.01). 이상의 결과로 인공호에서의 수질은 계절에 따라 발생하는 자연적인 영향과 저수율에 의해서 크게 변함을 알 수 있었다. 따라서 인공호에서의 취수하는 상수 원수의 수질을 보다 최적으로 유지하는데는 저수율의 효과적인 관리 계획에 중점을 두어야 할 것이다. This study was conducted to examine the changes in water quality by seasons, existence of rainfall and rate of storage at Kachang Dam which has been used only for the piped water service. The biochemical water quality had been daily sampled and tested from January 1993 to July 1994. The result of this study is summarized as follows. Turbidity (p〈0.01), dissolved oxygen (p〈0.01), electrotransmittance (p〈0.05) and pH (p〈0.01) were significantly changed, but KMnO₄consumption and alkalinity were not significantly changed by existence of rainfall. All of tested items for water quality, such as turbidity, KMnO₄consumption, dissolved oxygen, alkalinity, electrotransmittance and pH were showed significant difference in the rate of storage at reservoir (p〈0.01). The biochemical water quality was influenced by seasons (p〈0.01). The highest turbidity was determined in summer, KMnO₄consumption was determined high in autumn, but dissolved oxygen and pH were lower in summer, alkalinity was determined low in autumn, electrotransmittance was determined high in summer. In multiple analysis on water quality items, the rainfall was not significant variable in turbidity, KMnO₄consumption, dissolved oxygen, alkalinity, electrotransmittance and pH , but the rate of storage, season were showed significant variable all items for the water quality (p〈0.01). As a result of testing, it was found that the change of water quality was influenced by the rate of storage at reservoir. It is required, therefore, to emphasize the effective control planning of the rate of storage at reservoir, so as to keep water quality collected from reservoir in the best condition.

        Inkjet‐Printable Nanoporous Ag Disk Arrays Enabling Coffee‐Ring Effect‐Driven Analyte Enrichment Towards Practical SERS Applications

        To make surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) sensors more practical, we propose nanoporous Ag disks as SERSactive plasmonic structures that can be readily inkjet-printed just before use to avoid degradation of SERS enhancement. Together with the aid of the enhanced plasmonic fi elds from the nanoporous Ag (confirmed by electromagnetic simulation), we utilize a coffee-ring effect to concentrate target analytes, which is demonstrated by confocal Raman measurements. By using the proposed SERS sensor, Raman signals of TiO 2 nanoparticles with a concentration of ppm to sub-ppb have been successfully measured. TiO 2 in commercial consumables has been also detected by distinguishing its crystalline phase.

      • 慶北 漆谷郡 河濱池에서 採集한 淡水魚의 吸蟲類 被囊幼蟲의 奇生狀

        1990年 4月부터 同年 9月까지 慶北 漆谷郡 河濱池에서 淡水魚를 投綱, 낚시, 사발모지等으로 採集하여 吸蟲類 被囊幼蟲의 魚種別 寄生狀을 調査하였다. 河濱池에서 採集된 5種의 淡水魚에서 5種의 吸蟲類 被囊幼蟲을 同定하였던 바 몰개(Gnathopogon atromaculatus)에서는 5種의 吸蟲類 被囊幼蟲이, 참붕어(Pseudorasbora parva)에서는 3種의 被囊幼蟲이 檢出되었고, 강준치(Erythroculter erythropterus)와 납지리(Paracheilognathus rhombea)에서는 各各 1種의 被囊幼蟲이 檢出되었다. 붕어(Carassius carassius)에서는 吸蟲類 被囊幼蟲이 전혀 檢出되지 않았다. 肝吸蟲 被囊幼蟲의 寄生率과 寄生程度는 몰개에서 各各 58.9% 및 2.0個로 가장 높았으며, Metagonimus屬 被囊幼蟲은 몰개에서만 그 率 3.6%, 그 程度 1.0個로 檢出되었다. 그외의 3種의 吸蟲類 被囊幼蟲, Cyathocotyle orientalis, Metacercaria hasegawai, Pseudexorchis major는 各各 7.4個, 1.0個, 1.0個의 寄生程度를 나타내었다. 이번 調査로 慶北 漆谷郡 河濱池는 吸蟲類의 輕微한 浸潤池임과 河濱池에서 醫學的으로 重要한 淡水魚 宿主는 몰개였다. From April to September, 1990, fresh-water fish collected in Habin pond, Chilgok country, Kyungpook Province, were examined for the determination of the prevalence and intensity of infestation with digenetic larval trematodes. From 5 species of fresh-water fish collected, 5 species of metacercariae were identified. Gnathopogon atromaculatus, the korean shiner, was found to be infested by 5 species of the metacercariae whereas Pseudorasbora parva, the southern top-mouthed minnow, by 4 kinds. Erythroculter erythropterus, the white fish, and Paracheilognathus rhombea, the flat bitterling, were infested with 3 kinds of metacercariae. However, no digenetic larval trematode was demonstrated from Carassius carassius, the crusian carp. The rate and intensity of infestation with Clonorchis sinensis was the highest in G. atromaculatus, 58.9% and 3.4 cysts per gram of flesh, respectively. Metacercaria of Metagonimus species was detected from G. atromaculatus alone. The intensity of fish with the remaining 3 kinds of metacercariae, Cyathocotyle orientalis, Metacercaria hasegawai, and Metorchis orientalis, 7.4, 1.0 and 1.0 cyst per gram of the flesh, respectively. In the light of these results, it seemed likely that Habin pond might be enzootic focus of digenetic larval trematodes and G. atromaculatus might be a fish host of the greatest medical importance.
