        Acute and Sub-chronic Oral Toxicity Study of Ammonium Persulfate in Spraque-Dawley Rats

        The toxicity test of ammonium persulfate was conducted to ensure of its potential toxic effects according to the single-dose acute oral toxicity study (OECD Guideline 423) and 90-day repeated dose sub-chronic oral toxicity study guideline (OECD Guideline 408) for establishing national chemical management system, and matching in the Globally Harmonized Classification System (GHS) category. In acute oral toxicity study, pasty stool, perineal contamination and temporary body weight decrease were observed after dosing 1st and 2nd challenge (300 mg/kg body weight). All test animals were dead within 6 hours after dosing at 3rd challenge (2000 mg/kg body weight). Therefore, the GHS class of test substance is considered class 4. In sub-chronic toxicity study, body weight changes, food consumptions, hematological, biochemical and pathological examination did not show any noticeable and significant differences between the administered (5, 20, 80 mg/kg body weight) and control (vehicle only) group animals. Based on these results, the no observed adverse effect level (NOAEL) is considered above 80 mg/kg body weight.

        <P>Nanoelectromechanical (NEM) switches have received widespread attention as promising candidates in the drive to surmount the physical limitations currently faced by complementary metal oxide semiconductor technology. The NEM switch has demonstrated superior characteristics including quasi-zero leakage behaviour, excellent density capability and operation in harsh environments. However, an unacceptably high operating voltage (4-20 V) has posed a major obstacle in the practical use of the NEM switch in low-power integrated circuits. To utilize the NEM switch widely as a core device component in ultralow power applications, the operation voltage needs to be reduced to 1 V or below. However, sub-1 V actuation has not yet been demonstrated because of fabrication difficulties and irreversible switching failure caused by surface adhesion. Here, we report the sub-1 V operation of a NEM switch through the introduction of a novel pipe clip device structure and an effective air gap fabrication technique. This achievement is primarily attributed to the incorporation of a 4-nm-thick air gap, which is the smallest reported so far for a NEM switch generated using a 'top-down' approach. Our structure and process can potentially be utilized in various nanogap-related applications, including NEM switch-based ultralow-power integrated circuits, NEM resonators, nanogap electrodes for scientific research and sensors.</P>

        일본 벤토나이트 광상의 부존특성 및 광석의 물리화학적 특성

        일본의 제3기 퇴적분지 내 분포하는 주요 벤토나이트 광상인 Myogi, Tsukinuno, Dobuyama 및 Kawasaki 광상의 산상과 성인을 비교하였으며, 각 광상에서 산출되는 대표적 벤토나이트를 대상하여 광물학적 특성 및 물리화학적 특성이 비교되었다. 일본에서 산출되는 벤토나이트 광상은 신생대 제3기 마이오세기~플라이오세기에 형성된 녹색응회암대 내에 주로 분포한다. Myogi, Tsukinuno 및 Kawasaki 광상은 속성변질작용에 의해, Dobuyama 광상은 열수변질작용에 의해 형성 되었다. 속성변질광상인 Myogi, Tsukinuno 및 Kawasaki 광상은 층상형 또는 성층형 광체형을 보이나 열수변질광상인 Dobuyama 광상은 콘형의 광체형을 나다낸다. 이 광상들의 형성 시기는 1.8~21 Ma까지 넓은 년대 범위를 보이나 대체로 초기~중기 마이오세기에 형성되었다. 몬모릴로나이트 함량비가 가장 높은 Dobuyama 광석이 높은 표면적, CEC, MB 흡착량 및 강도 값을 보인다. 몬모릴로나이트 함량비도 다소 높고 Na-형인 Tsukinuno 광석은 강 알카리성, 높은 점도 및 팽윤도를 보인다. Na-Ca 혼합형인 Kawasaki 광석들은 Na-형에 비해서는 낮은 점도와 팽윤도를 보이니 Ca-형인 Dubuyama보다는 다소 높다. 제올라이트 함량비가 높은 Myogi 광석은 Na-형이나 몬모릴로나이트 함량비가 가장 낮기 때문에 낮은 점도, MB 흡착량, 강도값을 나타내나 CEC와 표면적 값은 다소 높다. 이는 제올라이트 영향으로 생각된다. 대체적으로 수용액계에서 Na-형은 강한 분산이 초래되나 Ca-형은 응집이 보다 강하게 일어나며, 두 유형 모두 매우 서서히 응집이 초래되었다. 벤토나이트의 물성은 몬모릴로나이트의 함량, 층간 양이온종이나 분순광물(특히 제올라이트)에 의해 주로 규제되는 시료도 있지만, 몇 시료는 이와 일치되지 않는다. 이는 이 연구에서 확인치 못한 몬모릴로나이트의 층전하 값과 같은 결정-화학적 및 몬모릴로나인트의 형상비와 같은 결정 형태적 특성에 의한 영향일 것으로 해 석된다. This study was to compare the geological occurrences and geneses of the Myogi, Tsukinuno, Dobuyama and Kawasaki bentonite deposits distributed in the Tertiary sedimentary basins of NE Japan, and to compare the mineralogical and physicochemical properties of their bentonites. The Japanese bentonite deposits are mainly distributed in the Green-tuff region which was formed in Neogene. The shape of ore body of the Myogi, Tsukinuno and Kawasaki deposits formed by the diagenesis are layered and stratiform. In contrast to this, the Dobuyama deposit formed by hydrothermal alteration shows the cone shape. The mineralization age of four deposits are 1.8~21 Ma from Early Miocene to Pliocene. The Dobuyama bentonite with the highest montmorillonite content shows the highest surface area, CEC, MB adsorption, and strengths. The Tsukinuno bentonite with a little high montmorillonite content is characterized by strong alkalinity, high viscosity and swelling. The Kawasaki bentonite, the Na-Ca mixed type, shows higher viscosity and swelling than the Ca-type Dobuyama bentonite. The Myogi bentonite with the lowest montmorillonite content shows the properties of low viscosity, MB adsorption, strengths and a little high CEC and surface area. The high CEC and surface area of this deposit is due to the sufficient occurrence of zeolite. A strong dispersion in the Na-type bentonite and a strong flocculation in the Ca-type bentonite took place, and both the types show a slow flocculation with time. The physicochemical properties of the bentonite are mainly controlled by the montmorillonite content, interlayer cations, and impurity minerals such as zeolite. But bentonites inconsistent to this factors are sometimes occurred. This is maybe due to the crystal chemistry such as layer charge of montmorillonite and crystal morphology of montmorillonite such as aspect ratio.

        The purpose of this study is to investigate and analyze experimentally and positively engineering properties of recycled concrete using high quality recycled fine aggregate according to w/c ratio and unit water contents. And it is intend to present fundamental data for the mix design and the improvement of quality. The results are as follows; According to the increase of W/C ratio, the addition ratio of superplasticizer was reduced, the strength of compressive and tensile showed low and carbonation depth and chloride penetration depth showed high. And according to the increase of unit water contents, the addition ratio of superplasticizer was reduced, the strength of compressive and tensile showed low and carbonation depth and chloride penetration depth showed high.

        Effects of a High-Intensity Interval Physical Exercise Program on Cognition, Physical Performance, and Electroencephalogram Patterns in Korean Elderly People: A Pilot Study

        Background and Purpose: The effects of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) interventions on functional brain changes in older adults remain unclear. This preliminary study aimed to explore the effect of physical exercise intervention (PEI), including HIIT, on cognitive function, physical performance, and electroencephalogram patterns in Korean elderly people. Methods: We enrolled six non-dementia participants aged >65 years from a community health center. PEI was conducted at the community health center for 4 weeks, three times/week, and 50 min/day. PEI, including HIIT, involved aerobic exercise, resistance training (muscle strength), flexibility, and balance. Wilcoxon signed rank test was used for data analysis. Results: After the PEI, there was improvement in the 30-second sit-to-stand test result (16.2±7.0 times vs. 24.8±5.5 times, p=0.027), 2-minute stationary march result (98.3±27.2 times vs. 143.7±36.9 times, p=0.027), T-wall response time (104.2±55.8 seconds vs.71.0±19.4 seconds, p=0.028), memory score (89.6±21.6 vs. 111.0±19.1, p=0.028), executive function score (33.3±5.3 vs. 37.0±5.1, p=0.046), and total Literacy Independent Cognitive Assessment score (214.6±30.6 vs. 241.6±22.8, p=0.028). Electroencephalography demonstrated that the beta power in the frontal region was increased, while the theta power in the temporal region was decreased (all p<0.05). Conclusions: Our HIIT PEI program effectively improved cognitive function, physical fitness, and electroencephalographic markers in elderly individuals; thus, it could be beneficial for improving functional brain activity in this population.

      • 심한 정신병적 증상을 나타낸 전신성 홍반성 루푸스 3례

        전신성 홍반성 루푸스(systemic lupus erythematosus, 이하 SLE)는 원인을 알 수 없는 자가항체 및 면역복합체로 인하여 여러 장기의 손상을 초래하는 질환이다. SLE의 신경정신의학적 증상에 대하여는 1872년 Kaposi에 의해 처음 기술되었다. 이때에 나타나는 임상적 양상은 상당히 다양하여 정신증, 우울증, 뇌졸증과 인지기능장애등을 포함한다. 이들은 종합적인 정신과적 평가를 위해 종종 협의진료가 의뢰되고 있다. SLE의 정신병적 증상은 환자의 사망률을 높이고 좋지 않은 예후를 시사하는 지표가 될 수 있기 때문에 조기 진단 및 치료가 요구된다. 그러나 SLE의 중추신경계 침범에 대한 명확한 진단기준이 마련되어있지 않고, 증상의 다양성과 변동성은 진단을 더욱 어렵게한다. 저자들이 경험한 심한 정신병적 증상을 보인 SLE 3례의 경우, 이들은 지남력 장애, 환시, 환청, 망상, 불안정한 기분을 보였고 자주 충동적이 되거나 난폭해져 자신 또는 타인에게 위험을 초래할 수 있었다. 현재까지 SLE의 정신병적 증상에 대하여 잘 알려져 있지는 않지만, 문헌고찰을 통해 발병기전, 분류진단, 임사양상, 치료등에 대하여 알아보았다. Systemic lupus erythematosus(SLE) is a disease of unknown etiology in which multiple organs are damaged by pathogenic autoantibodies and immune complexes. Neuropsychiatric manifestations in SLE were first described by Kaposi in 1872. These are so diverse that they include psychosis, depression, stroke, seizure and cognitive dysfunction etc.These patients are frequently consulted for psychiatric evaluation. Neuropsychiatric manifestations in SEL re also among the leading causes of morbidity and mortality and associated with poor long-term outcome. So it is essential to recognize and intervene these symptoms early. But the clear diagnostic criteria for CNS involvement in SLE have not been formulated, and diversity and fluctuation of illness make it difficult to confirm it. The authors reported three cases of SLE with severe neuropsychiatric manifestation. These patients showed symptoms such as disorientation, auditory and visual hallucibation, delusion and mood instability. They became frequently impulsive and violent and had risks to injure themselves or others. Although CNS involvement in SLE is not well known, we reviewed the pathogenesis, classification, diagnosis, clinical manifestation and treatment of them.

        Being adopted the Cellular Systems in Korea, the method of a radio repeater is that the mobile station(MS) can be used only in a service area of the base station(BS). In case that traffic congestion is occured around the specific BS because of an event etc., the traffic blocking rates are being maximized and the subscriber service is being dropped. To improve these problems, we propose an algorithm for a radio repeater network that distributes the traffics of the specific BS, predicted traffic congestion, to an adjacent BS by sharing a service area. And then, we confirm the valid through the simulation.

        급성 충수돌기염 의증 환자의 진단에서 컴퓨터 단층촬영과 초음파검사의 비교 분석

        Background: This study was conducted to compare the accuracy of computered tomography(CT) and sonography(US) in diagnosing acute appendicitis and to analyze the radiologic factors which influence the result. Methods: We retrospectively studied the cases of 53 patients who were suspected of having appendicitis and who were examined by CT and US covered a three-year period. The final diagnosis was determined from the surgico-pathologic diagnosis and clinical follow-up for two months, as well as from the discharge diagnosis. Results: Thirty-eight(38) patients had acute appendicitis; 15 patients did not. In the analysis, CT and US, respectively, revealed sensitivities of 89.5% and 73.7%, specificities of 93.3% and 60.0%, positive predictive values of 97.1% and 82.4%, negative predictive values of 77.8% and 47.4%. Among patients diagnosed with acute appendicitis, 10 patients were discordant in the US and the CT examinations; CT findings were correct in 8 and US findings in 2. Among non-appendicitis patients, 5 patients were discordant in the US and the CT examinations; CT was correct in 5 and US in 0. Nighteen(19) patients had complications such as an abscess or a perforation. Among these patients, the degree and the extent of the complication were accurately evaluated by CT in 15 patients and by US in 5 patients. Conclusion: CT is more accurate than US in diagnosing and excluding acute appendicitis. The use of CT will substantially decrease unnecessary laparotomies and post-operation complications.

      • 유기질비료 시비량에 따른 오미자 묘목의 초기 생육특성에 관한 연구

        This study was carried out to have basic and applied informations to find the optimum nitrogen fertilization level for organic cultivation and to investigate early growth characteristics of Schizandra chinensis Baillon. Different application levels of the organic fertilizer were based on the recommended rate of N fertilizer. Five different levels of the organic fertilizer were applied to S. chinensis and early growth responses such as the length of vine, the diameter of vine, the number of leaves, and the number of branches were investigated. Lengths of main and total vines were shown longer at the level of 1.0 time organic fertilizer than those at others. The vine length at early growth was the highest at the level of 1.0 time organic fertilizer among the treatments. Stem diameter was shown thicker level of 1.0 time organic fertilizer than others on August and September, whereas on October it was the thickest in the conventional cultivation. Number of leaf was increased higher at the level of 1.0 and 2.0 times organic fertilizer than that in the compared to conventional. The number of branches was appeared the lowest at the level of 1.0 time organic fertilizer at early growth, however they were increased through progressing their growth stages. They were not significantly difference among the treatments except for the level of 2.0 times organic fertilizer. Based on the research results, the growth of S. chinensis was commonly higher at the level of 1.0 time organic fertilizer compared to other treatments.
