        Effect of Multi-Level Microstructure on Local and Bulk Mechanical Properties in Micro-Injection Molded PC/PET Blend

        This study introduces a method to investigate the relationship between the multi-level microstructures and mechanical properties of polymer blends prepared by micro-injection molding (μIM). Special morphological features were systematically researched. Polycarbonate (PC), poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET), and PC/PET microparts all exhibit typical “skin-core” morphologies. The thickness of the core layer is much greater than that of the skin layer, and the thickness of the skin layer gradually decreases along the flow direction. Photoacoustic Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy records reveal that the PC molecular chain has the biggest orientation degree, followed by PC/PET and PET chains under the same μIM processing conditions. Moreover, the molecular chains orientation in the skin layer is more than 50% that in the core layer. Nanoindentation tests are conducted to study local mechanical properties. The higher modulus in the shear layer is affected to a greater extent by high shear action in comparison with the frozen and core layers. Uniaxial tensile testing demonstrates that the tensile strength of PC/PET micropart is 15.5% higher than that of the PET micropart, while the toughness is 16% higher than that of the PC microparts. In-situ, high- speed tensile imaging, combined with scanning electron microscopy micrographs of the fracture section, are used to study the fracture behaviors of the microparts. The results gathered in this paper may provide a theoretical basis and data to support the feasibility and efficiency of micro-injection molded polymer blends.

        Overlapped Segmental Clipping for the PAPR Reduction of the OFDM-OQAM system

        Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing with offset quadrature amplitude modulation (OFDM-OQAM) technique has drawn significant interests in recent years. However, most of the existing OFDM peak-to-average ratio (PAPR) reduction schemes cannot be used in the OFDM-OQAM system directly. In this paper, a modified scheme called overlapped segmental clipping (OS-clipping) is proposed to deal with the high PAPR problem specifically in the OFDM-OQAM system. For the proposed OS-clipping scheme, the input signals are divided into a number of overlapped segments and then the clipping operation is processed on each segment. Simulation results show that the modified scheme used in the OFDM-OQAM system can provide better performance than conventional clipping scheme directly used in the OFDM-OQAM system, and even outperforms conventional clipping scheme applied in the OFDM system.

      • HOW CAN MORALITY-IRRELEVANT INSPIRATION LEAD TO MORALITY BEHAVIOR?

        In this paper, we investigate whether and how morality irrelevant inspiration can influence consumer’s own morality behavior. Thrash & Elliot (2003) conceptualized inspiration as a psychological construct with three core characteristics: evocation, transcendence, and motivation. Morality behavior include prescriptive morality (e.g., prosocial behavior) and proscriptive morality (e.g., immoral behavior), which have different antecedents. We propose a common antecedent for both faces of morality and found that morality-irrelevant inspirational experiences (triggered by others or oneself) could decrease proscriptive morality and increase prescriptive morality, via emotional and cognitive transcendence. This is the first paper to explore the roles played by the emotional and cognitive transcendence resulted from the inspirational experiences and the consequences of transcendence on a source-irrelevant context.

        Improvement of the Multiple Image Encryption Capacity Using QR Code as a Data Container

        An image encryption scheme based on the quick response (QR) code as a data container has aroused wide interest due to the lossless recovery of the decrypted image. In this paper, we apply this method to multi-image encryption. However, since the decrypted image is affected by crosstalk noise, the number of multi-image encryptions is severely limited. To solve this problem, we analyzed the performance of QR code as a data container, and processed the decrypted QR code using the proposed method, so that the number of multi-image encryptions is effectively increased. Finally, we implemented a large image (256 × 256) encryption and decryption.

        Study on flow fields of centrally fuel rich swirl burner and its applications

        Experiments on a single-phase test facility were done to optimize primary air outlet cones of a centrally fuel rich swirl coal combustion burner. On the basis of optimized results from the single-phase test, a three-component particle-dynamics anemometer was used to measure, in the near-burner region, the characteristics of gas/particle two-phase flows for the burner with two primary air outlet cones, on a gas/particle two-phase test facility. Velocities, RMS velocities and particle volume flux profiles were obtained. According to the results, the primary air outlet cone structure of the centrally fuel rich burner was matching a 670 ton per hour boiler. The performance of the burner on a 670 ton per hour boiler was studied.

        Cloning and different expression of ATP synthase genes between propargite resistant and susceptible strains of Tetranychus cinnabarinus (Acarina: Tetranychidae)

        The carmine spider mite, Tetranychus cinnabarinus (Boisduval), is a serious phytophagous mite damaging importantcrops and can rapidly develop resistance to acaricides. Mitochondrial ATP synthase (F1F0 ATP synthase)is an important target site of acaricides. The role of ATP synthase in acaricide resistance remains unclear at themolecular level. In this study, twelve full-length cDNAs of ATP synthase genes were cloned and characterizedfrom T. cinnabarinus and their expression levels were determined for both progargite-resistant and susceptiblestrains. The effect of propargite exposure on gene expression was also evaluated. Analyses of gene expressionrevealed that TcATPsynU-2, TcATPsynF0-2 and TcATPsynF0-4 were significantly down-regulated in the progargite-resistant strain. TcATPsynF0-2 and TcATPsynF0-4 had a strong response to progargite exposure. Theresults suggest that lower levels of TcATPsynU-2, TcATPsynF0-2 and TcATPsynF0-4 expression might be related topropargite-resistance observed in the resistant T. cinnabarinus. This is the first attempt to identify specific ATPasegenes involved in propargite resistance in T. cinnabarinus.

        Betulinic acid prevents alcohol-induced liver damage by improving the antioxidant system in mice

        Betulinic acid (BA), a pentacyclic lupane-type triterpene, hasa wide range of bioactivities. The main objective of this workwas to evaluate the hepatoprotective activity of BA and thepotential mechanism underlying the ability of this compoundto prevent liver damage induced by alcohol in vivo. Mice weregiven oral doses of BA (0.25, 0.5, and 1.0 mg/kg) daily for 14days, and induced liver injury by feeding 50% alcohol orally atthe dosage of 10 ml/kg after 1 h last administration of BA. BApretreatment significantly reduced the serum levels of alaninetransaminase, aspartate transaminase, total cholesterol, andtriacylglycerides in a dose-dependent manner in the miceadministered alcohol. Hepatic levels of glutathione, superoxidedismutase, glutathione peroxidase, and catalase wereremarkably increased, while malondialdehyde contents andmicrovesicular steatosis in the liver were decreased by BA in adose-dependent manner after alcohol-induced liver injury. These findings suggest that the mechanism underlying thehepatoprotective effects of BA might be due to increasedantioxidant capacity, mainly through improvement of thetissue redox system, maintenance of the antioxidant system,and decreased lipid peroxidation in the liver.

        A method of X-ray source spectrum estimation from transmission measurements based on compressed sensing

        A new method of X-ray source spectrum estimation based on compressed sensing is proposed in this paper. The algorithm K-SVD is applied for sparse representation. Nonnegative constraints are added by modifying the L1 reconstruction algorithm proposed by Rosset and Zhu. The estimation method is demonstrated on simulated spectra typical of mammography and CT. X-ray spectra are simulated with the Monte Carlo code Geant4. The proposed method is successfully applied to highly ill conditioned and under determined estimation problems with a good performance of suppressing noises. Results with acceptable accuracies (MSE < 5%) can be obtained with 10% Gaussian white noises added to the simulated experimental data. The biggest difference between the proposed method and the existing methods is that multiple prior knowledge of X-ray spectra can be included in one dictionary, which is meaningful for obtaining the true X-ray spectrum from the measurements.

        FLOURY ENDOSPERM12 Encoding Alanine Aminotransferase 1 Regulates Carbon and Nitrogen Metabolism in Rice

        Starch is a major storage substance in cerealgrains, and starch biosynthesis is a complex process. In orderto elucidate regulation of the starch biosynthesis pathway, wescreened a series of rice (Oryza sativa L.) endospermmutants. In this study, we identified a floury white-coreendosperm mutant named floury endosperm12 (flo12). Theflo12 mutant exhibited loosely packed starch granules and alower thousand kernel weight compared to wild type. Semithinsections revealed that compound starch grains (SG) inflo12 interior endosperm cells were developed abnormally. Furthermore, amylose content was decreased, while totalprotein content was significantly increased in flo12 grains. Map-based cloning showed that FLO12 encodes rice alanineaminotransferase 1 (OsAlaAT1). OsAlaAT1 is highly expressedin developing endosperm. Subcellular localization showedthat OsAlaAT1 is localized in the cytosol. Moreover, theexpression of most starch synthesis-related genes wasdecreased, while most of the storage protein coding geneshad elevated expression levels in the flo12 mutant. Inaddition, overexpression of the OsAlaAT1 gene increasedgrain weight. In brief, we demonstrated that OsAlaAT1regulates carbon and nitrogen metabolism, which provides anew insight for the improvement of rice quality and yield.
