JEON B.Y., LEE H‐Y., PARK E‐C., CHOI K.S., JUN J.K., KIM Y., HAN M.A., YOON N‐H., KIM E.J. & JEON S.M. (2011) European Journal of Cancer Care20, 803–809

Satisfaction with mammography in the National Cancer Screening Programme participants of age 40s in Korea

The aim of this study was to evaluate satisfaction with the National Cancer Screening Programme of mammography in Korea and to examine the association between subscales of satisfaction and general satisfaction. We conducted a cross‐sectional telephone survey for women who had obtained a National Cancer Screening Programme mammographic screening at general hospitals between May and October 2008. The present study included 2005 women in their forties. We performed multivariate linear regression using dependent variable as general satisfaction and independent variables as subscales of satisfaction, such as pre‐screening information transfer, staff interpersonal skills, physical surroundings and results reporting. Participants were stratified according to the result of their mammogram as negative or positive. Mean score of satisfaction was above 2.5 of 4 for all subscales. Women who received positive results were less satisfied with all of subscale factors. Staff interpersonal skills were the most important factor that contributed to general satisfaction. Future efforts such as staff training programme of communication/attitude skills, ensuring privacy and explanation of possible discomfort of the screening would be needed.

      • Nocardioides basaltis sp. nov., isolated from black beach sand

        Kim, K.-H.,Roh, S. W.,Chang, H.-W.,Nam, Y.-D.,Yoon, J.-H.,Jeon, C. O.,Oh, H.-M.,Bae, J.-W. Microbiology Society 2009 International journal of systematic and evolutiona Vol.59 No.1

A novel Gram-positive, aerobic, short-rod-shaped bacterium, designated strain J112T, was isolated from black sand collected from Soesoggak, Jeju Island, Korea. The strain was found to be oxidase-negative and catalase-positive. Cells grew at 10-37 degrees C, at pH 5.5-8.0 and with 1-10 % NaCl. Growth occurred on marine agar but not on R2A or trypticase soy agar. A phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that the strain belongs to the radiation of the genus Nocardioides. Strain J112T shared the highest 16S rRNA gene sequence similarities with Nocardioides marinisabuli SBS-12T (99.2 %), Nocardioides terrigena DS-17T (97.3 %), Nocardioides kribbensis KCTC 19038T (97.1 %) and type strains of other Nocardioides species with validly published names (<97 %). The DNA-DNA hybridization values between strain J112T and the three most closely related strains were low enough to justify the assignment of this strain to a novel species. On the basis of these phenotypic, phylogenetic and chemotaxonomic data, strain J112T represents a novel species of the genus Nocardioides, for which the name Nocardioides basaltis sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is J112T (=KCTC 19365T=JCM 14945T).

      • Pseudomonas sabulinigri sp. nov., isolated from black beach sand

        Kim, K.-H.,Roh, S. W.,Chang, H.-W.,Nam, Y.-D.,Yoon, J.-H.,Jeon, C. O.,Oh, H.-M.,Bae, J.-W. Microbiology Society 2009 International journal of systematic and evolutiona Vol.59 No.1

A novel Gram-negative, aerobic, motile, short rod-shaped bacterium, designated J64T, was isolated from black sand collected from Soesoggak, Jeju Island, Korea. Cells grew at 4-37 degrees C, at pH 5.5-10.0 and with 0-10 % NaCl. The strain was found to be oxidase- and catalase-positive. Phylogenetic analyses showed that strain J64T belongs to the genus Pseudomonas, forming a monophyletic group with Pseudomonas pachastrellae, Pseudomonas pertucinogena and 'Pseudomonas denitrificans'. The 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity between strain J64T and type strains of all Pseudomonas species with validly published names was below 96.6 %. Low levels of DNA-DNA relatedness were found with respect to type strains of P. pachastrellae and P. pertucinogena, supporting the classification of strain J64T within a novel species of the genus Pseudomonas. Strain J64T contained C(18 : 1)omega7c (37.2 %), C(16 : 0) (20.4 %), summed feature 3 (17.4 %; comprising iso-C(15 : 0) 2-OH and/or C(16 : 1)omega7c) and C(12 : 0) (7.6 %) as major cellular fatty acids. On the basis of the phenotypic and phylogenetic data, strain J64T represents a novel species of the genus Pseudomonas, for which the name Pseudomonas sabulinigri sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is J64T (=KCTC 22137T =JCM 14963T).

Glycerol-fed microbial fuel cell with a co-culture of Shewanella oneidensis MR-1 and Klebsiella pneumonae J2B

        Kim, C.,Song, Y. E.,Lee, C. R.,Jeon, B. H.,Kim, J. R. SPRINGER 2016 Journal of industrial microbiology & biotechnology Vol.43 No.10

Glycerol is an attractive feedstock for bioenergy and bioconversion processes but its use in microbial fuel cells (MFCs) for electrical energy recovery has not been investigated extensively. This study compared the glycerol uptake and electricity generation of a co-culture of Shewanella oneidensis MR-1 and Klebsiella pneumonia J2B in a MFC with that of a single species inoculated counterpart. Glycerol was metabolized successfully in the co-culture MFC (MFC-J&M) with simultaneous electricity production but it was not utilized in the MR-1 only MFC (MFC-M). A current density of 10 mA/m(2) was obtained while acidic byproducts (lactate and acetate) were consumed in the co-culture MFC, whereas they are accumulated in the J2B-only MFC (MFC-J). MR-1 was distributed mainly on the electrode in MFC-J&M, whereas most of the J2B was observed in the suspension in the MFC-J reactor, indicating that the co-culture of both strains provides an ecological driving force for glycerol utilization using the electrode as an electron acceptor. This suggests that a co-culture MFC can be applied to electrical energy recovery from glycerol, which was previously known as a refractory substrate in a bioelectrochemical system.

분만 후 모돈의 행동적 회복과 포유자돈의 행동적 발달

        전중환,김동주,한지훈,연성찬,장홍희 한국동물자원과학회 2003 한국축산학회지 Vol.45 No.6

We investigated postpartum behaviors of sows and their litters. The aim of this study was to determine the behavioral recovery of sows and behavioral development of their piglets postpartum. Five multiparous sows(Landrace × Yorkshire) and their litters were studied over a period of 5 days postpartum. The litter size varied from 8 to 13 with a mean of 11.2 piglets. The behaviors of sows and their piglets were recorded using five CCD cameras, a multiplexer and a time lapsed VCR. The videotapes were scanned every 2 min to obtain an instantaneous behavioral sample. In the behaviors of sows, ?Lying ventrally? increased from 1h postpartum to 26g postpartum, then decreased gradually, and stabilized after 80h postpartum. ?Lying ventrally? decreased from 1h postpartum to 26h postpartum and stabilized after 80h postpartum. ?Standing, drinking and feeding? increased from 1h postpartum to 23h postpartum, then decreased gradually, and increased again from 60h postpartum. ?Sitting? increased from 1h postpartum to 46h postpartum and then decreased. In the behaviors of piglets, ?Lying? increased rapidly from 1h postpartum to 45h postpartum, and then was maintained at an almost constant level. ?Massaging and Suckling? decreased rapidly from 1h postpartum to 36g postpartum, and then was maintained at an almost constant level. ?Walking? increased from 1h postpartum to 21h postpartum, then decreased gradually. These results suggest that the behavioral recovery of the sow is almost completed at 80h postpartum and that the behavioral development of the piglet is almost completed at 45h postpartum.

health promotion behavior of middle aged men and the relationship among the above factors. Methods: Subjects of the research were 325 middle aged men in Korea. The questionnaires were composed of general characteristics, Health Self Rating Scale, FACES-Ⅲ : Family Adaptability & Cohesion Evaluation Scale Ⅲ, Health Promoting Lifestyle Profile. Data were statistically analyzed by t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe test and Pearson’s correlation. Results: Middle aged men whose perceived economic status are low show lower perceived health status than moderate and high (F=3.364, p=.010). Health promotion behavior in the age 40-44 shows lower level than 60-64 (F=2.984, p=.019). Middle aged men who have Economically dependent adult in the first child show higher level in health promotion behavior than who have Middle & High school student in the first child (F=2.468, p=.045). In the middle aged men, perceived health status and family cohesion show positive correlation (r=.341, p<.01). Perceived health status and health promotion behavior show positive correlation (r=.500, p<.01). Family cohesion and health promotion behavior show posotive correlation (r=.564, p<.01). Conclusions: We analyzed influencing factor and a relationship between perceived health status, family cohesion and health promotion behavior. Accordingly, we can think of applying nursing interventions to the middle aged men considering the general characteristics. Also we can think of applying nursing interventions and educations to help them evaluate their perceived health status and include the support of family members for the health promotion behavior.

검정소 검정돈의 품종 및 환경요인의 효과 추정

        박종원,김병우,김현철,이길왕,최진성,강왕근,홍성광,하정기,전진태,이정규 한국동물자원과학회 2003 한국축산학회지 Vol.45 No.6

This study was carried out to estimate the effects of breed and environment such as sex, test station, test year, test season, parity, initial and final weight on average daily gain, age at 90㎏, backfat thickness, feed efficiency, lean percent and selection index on the basis of the performance data collected from 25,790 pigs of Duroc, Yoskshire and Landrace breeds which were performance-tested at the Korea Swine Testing Station from 1991 to 2002. The results obtained in the study are summarized as follows; 1. The means of the major economic traits were estimated as 959.95 ± 0.699g for average daily gain, 138.36 ± 0.072days for age at 90㎏, 1.41 ± 0.001㎝ for backfat thickness, 2.33 ± 0.001 for feed efficiency, 56.71 ± 0.018% for lean percent and 221.65 ± 0.113 for selection index. 2. The effect of breed was statistically significant for all studied traits. Briefly, Duroc showed the best per-formance for the average daily gain and age at 90㎏. Landrace had the best performances for the backfat thickness and lean meat percent. In feed efficiency and selection index, Yorkshire had a better score than other breeds. 3. The least-squares means of female and male for the traits studied were 923.05 ± 1.289g and 974.53 ± 0.856g for average daily gain, 139.74 ± 0.145days and 137.21 ± 0.097days for age at 90㎏, 1.49 ± 0.002㎝ and 1.39 ± 0.002㎝ for backfat thickness, 2.43 ± 0.002 and 2.28 ± 0.002 for feed efficiency, 56.43 ± 0.034% and 56.81 ± 0.023% for lean percent and 211.37 ± 0.194 and 224.61 ± 0.129 for selection index. Therefore, males were superior to females for all traits examined. 4. The effect of test station was statistically significant for all traits except for selection index. Performances for age at 90㎏, backfat thickness, feed efficiency and lean meat percent collected from Test station 2 were higher than those from Test station 1. However. Test station 1 showed better average daily gain. 5. The initial weight and final weight included as a covariate in this study had a significant influence on average daily gain, age at 90㎏, backfat thickness, feed efficiency and selection index. From the absolute values of the estimated regression coefficients, it was inferred that the final weight had greater effect for the investigated traits than the initial weight.
