In this study, chiral B-alkoxy-9-borabicyclo[3.3.1]nonane-potassium hydride systems were applied to the resolution of representative racemic epoxides, namely 1,2-epoxybutane, 1,2-epoxyoctane and styrene oxide. Chiral B-alkoxy-9-BBN systems were synthesized from the reaction of 9-BBN with (-)-isopinocampheol and (-)-cis-myrtanol, respectively. The resolution of 2 equiv of racemic epoxide was carried out with 1 equiv of the reducing system at 0℃. Thus, the 1 equiv of epoxide was reduced to the alcohol, remaining the other 1 equiv of epoxide intact. The resolving ability of these systems in terms of optical purity of the alcohol appeared to be 25-40% in the case of aliphatic epoxide and 9-12% in the case of styrene oxide. The absolute configuration of the alcohols is consistent with (R)-(-)-aliphatic alcohol and (S)-(-)-1-phenylethanol.

A novel switched - capacitor circuit for interfacing capacitive microtransducers with a digital system has been developed based on dual - slope integration. It consists of a differential integrator and a comparator. The circuit senses the capacitance difference between the transducer and the reference capacitor, accumulating the sensed charge into the feedback capacitor of the integrator for a fixed period of time. The known reference charge is then extracted from the accumulated charge untill the integrator output voltage returns to zero. The whole operation is insensitive to the reference voltage and the capacitor values involved in the circuit. Thus the proposed circuit permits an accurate differential capacitance measurement. Besides the accuracy, it features the small device count integrable onto a small chip area. The circuit is thus particularly suitable for the on- chip interface.

Background : In recent years, gonorrhea has been panedemic and remains one of the most commom STDs in the world, especially in developing countries. Objective & Methods: For the detection of a more effective therapeutic regimen and assessing the prevalence of PPNG, we have been trying to study the patients who have visited the VD Clinic of Choong-Ku Public Health Center in Seoul since 1980 by means of the chromogenic cephalosporin method. Results: In 1996, 139 strains of N. gonorrhoeae were isolated, among which 53(39.0%) were PPNG. Conclusion: Our results suggests that after a peak of 74.3% in 1993, the prevalence of PPNG in Seoul is gradually declining.
A Clock-feedthrough Compensated S^(2)I Cell and Its Application to an Algorithmic ADC

클록-피드쓰류(CFT) 보상된 2-단 스위치드-전류(S²I) 메모리 셀과 이를 이용한 알고리즘 아날로그-디지털 변환기(ADC)를 제안했다. 시뮬레이션에 의해, 제안한 S²I 메모리 셀은 -200 ㎂에서 +200 ㎂의 범위에서 0.004 %의 CFT 오차를 갖고 있다는 것을 확인했다. 종래의 알고리즘 ADC와 달리 제안한 S²I 메모리 셀을 이용한 ADC는 기준 전류의 2배가 되는 신호 전류를 디지털 신호로 변환하므로 넓은 동작 범위와 저소비 전력을 갖는다. 시뮬레이션에 의해, 제안한 ADC는 13-비트의 변환 정도, 1.14 Mbps의 변환 속도, 그리고 10㎃의 소비 전력을 갖고 있다는 것을 확인했다. 또한, 이 ADC를 구성하는 소자수는 매우 적다. 따라서, 본 논문에서 제안한 ADC는 고정도이면서 중간 속도를 갖는 혼성 아날로그와 디지털 응용 주문형 집적회로(ASIC)의 아날로그 전치부에 매우 적합할 것이다. 또한, CFT 보상된 S²I 메모리 셀은 고정도의 전류-모드 이산 신호 처리의 기본 소자로 아주 유용할 것이다.
