        Unconditional stability and convergence of fully discrete FEM for the viscoelastic Oldroyd flow with an introduced auxiliary variable

        In this paper, a fully discrete numerical scheme for the viscoelastic Oldroyd flow is considered with an introduced auxiliary variable. Our scheme is based on the finite element approximation for the spatial discretization and the backward Euler scheme for the time discretization. The integral term is discretized by the right trapezoidal rule. Firstly, we present the corresponding equivalent form of the considered model, and show the relationship between the origin problem and its equivalent system in finite element discretization. Secondly, unconditional stability and optimal error estimates of fully discrete numerical solutions in various norms are established. Finally, some numerical results are provided to confirm the established theoretical analysis and show the performances of the considered numerical scheme.

        Keratin-based drug-protein conjugate with acid-labile and reduction-cleavable linkages in series for tumor intracellular DOX delivery

        PK-SS-Hy-D drug-protein prodrug was obtained by conjugating doxorubicin (DOX) onto the PEGylatedkeratin (PK) with both bioreducible disulfide linkage and acid-cleavable hydrazone bond in a seriesconnection mode. The controlled release profiles demonstrated the pH and reduction dual-responsivetriggered release of DOX from the proposed drug-protein conjugate nanoparticles, with a low prematuredrug leakage of 5.5% in the simulated physiological medium. The in vitro experiments indicated that theproposed prodrug nanoparticles could delivery DOX into the cell nuclei, with an enhanced anti-tumorefficacy. It is expected as a potential candidate for future tumor chemotherapy with minimized toxic sideeffect.

        Spinal Angiolipomas : Clinical Characteristics, Surgical Strategies and Prognosis

        Objective : Angiolipomas are usually found in the subcutaneous tissue of the trunk and limbs. Spinal angiolipomas (SALs) are uncommon and have rarely been reported. We report a series of nine SALs patients who received surgical treatment in our department. To summarize the clinical characteristics of SALs, propose our surgical strategies, and evaluate the effects of the operation. Methods : This was a retrospective review of nine SALs patients who received surgical treatment from August 2015 to March 2020. Total or subtotal resection was determined by the axial localization (dorsal or ventral) and the extent of intervertebral foramen involvement. The outcomes were assessed based on the modified Japanese Orthopaedic Association (mJOA) scoring system utilized before surgery and at various follow-up points. Results : Among the nine patients, the mean mJOA score before surgery was 6.6±2.3, compared with 10.1±1.1 at the last follow-up time point (33.4±11.8 months). All patients achieved good outcomes, even in cases of subtotal resection. Conclusion : Early surgical resection of SALs is recommended, and the specific procedures should be determined by the axial localization (dorsal or ventral) and the extent of intervertebral foramen involvement. Most of the patients had a good prognosis, even in cases of subtotal resection.

        Tryptophan-assisted hydrothermal synthesis and sodium hydroxide-induced phase transformation of zirconia nanocrystals with excellent adsorption performance

        A serial of zirconia (ZrO 2) nanocrystals was hydrothermally synthesized without or with the addition of a certain amount of sodium hydroxide (NaOH) solution using a new water-soluble zirconium precursor solution obtained by mixing zirconium oxychloride octahydrate with nonpolar amino acid tryptophan (Trp) in water. The morphology and crystal structure of the resulting ZrO 2 nanocrystals were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, field-emission scanning electron microscopy, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The results showed that when using Trp as the sole additive without any addition of NaOH solution, pure monoclinic-phase Trp-coated ZrO 2 nanorods with the average diameter and length of about 5 and 27 nm were formed and further assembled anisotropically into 40–70 nm tetragonal star- like nanostructures. The addition of the increasing NaOH solution in the Trp-assisted hydrothermal reaction induced gradual transformation of both crystal structure and morphology of the resulting ZrO 2 products, which fi nally evolved into sheet-like aggregates of pure tetragonal-phase 5–7 nm ZrO 2 nanospheres simultaneously coated by both Trp and –OH groups/OH − ions. These ZrO 2 products synthesized in the presence of both Trp and NaOH solution compared with those synthesized with the addition of either only Trp or NaOH solution showed more excellent adsorption abilities towards cationic dye rhodamine B, with high adsorption efficiencies of up to 80% within 30 min, and can be potentially applied as absorbents for chemical wastewater treatment.

        Cholesteryl naphthalimide-based gelators: Their applications in the multiply visual sensing of CO<sub>2</sub> based on an anion-induced strategy

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Several cholesteryl naphthalimide-derived compounds have been sythesized and developed as CO<SUB>2</SUB> sensors. The derivatives, incorporating ether chains, were found to be capable of gelating various organic solvents, due to the modulation of the hydrophilicity/hydrophobility properties of them. The resulting organogels were well characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), FT-IR spectroscopy, concentration- and temperature-dependent <SUP>1</SUP>H NMR spectra, and powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD). These gelators can be applied as fluorescent sensors for CO<SUB>2</SUB> in DMSO solutions via the anion-triggered strategy. Furthermore, the resulting organogelation systems in DMSO could also provide visual sensing means for CO<SUB>2</SUB> via the reversible solution-to-gel transition. Particularly, the re-gelation of DMSO induced by CO<SUB>2</SUB> bubbling could be directly observed without the aid of the heating-and-cooling operation. And the reversible sensing process could be repeated several times with the excellent chemical stability of the gelation system after the repeated stimuli of fluoride anion, CO<SUB>2</SUB> and N<SUB>2</SUB> with heating.         A pilot study of gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist combined with aromatase inhibitor as fertility-sparing treatment in obese patients with endometrial cancer

        Objective: This study aims to evaluate the effects and pregnancy outcomes of gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist (GnRH agonist) combined with aromatase inhibitor (AI) in preserving the fertility of obese women with grade 1 endometrial cancer (EC). Methods: This study recruited obese EC patients who wished to preserve their fertility. The treatment regimen consisted of intramuscular GnRH agonist 3.75 mg every 4 weeks and oral AI 2.5 mg daily. The maintenance regimen was the same as the initial treatment regimen. Primary outcomes included response rate, time to complete response (CR), and time to recurrence; pregnancy outcomes included the time to pregnancy, pregnancy rate and live birth rate. Results: Six obese patients with EC were included in this study, with the age (mean±standard deviation [SD]) of 30.5±3.3 years and body mass index (mean±SD) of 35.0±1.4 kg/m2. CR rate was 100%, and time to CR was 3–6 months. None of the patients had recurrence after a median follow-up of 4.0 years (range, 1.3–7.0 years). The most common side effects were menopause-like symptoms. Among these patients, no weight gain was observed during treatment. The pregnancy rate and live birth rate was 50.0% and 75.0%, respectively, with a median time to pregnancy of 2.4 years (range, 1.0–5.5 years). Conclusion: The combination of GnRH agonist and AI demonstrated promising long-term effect in young obese EC patients who wished to preserve their fertility. No weight gain side effects were observed. Further studies with a larger sample size are needed to fully evaluate this novel treatment regimen.

        Interaction of Pseudostellaria heterophylla with Quorum Sensing and Quorum Quenching Bacteria Mediated by Root Exudates in a Consecutive Monoculture System<sup>s</sup>

        Many plant-pathogenic bacteria are dependent on quorum sensing (QS) to evoke disease. In this study, the population of QS and quorum quenching (QQ) bacteria was analyzed in a consecutive monoculture system of Pseudostellaria heterophylla. The isolated QS strains were identified as Serratia marcescens with SwrIR-type QS system and exhibited a significant increase over the years of monoculture. Only one QQ strain was isolated from newly planted soil sample and was identified as Bacillus thuringiensis, which secreted lactonase to degrade QS signal molecules. Inoculation of S. marcescens to P. heterophylla root could rapidly cause wilt disease, which was alleviated by B. thuringiensis. Furthermore, the expression of lactonase encoded by the aiiA gene in S. marcescens resulted in reduction of its pathogenicity, implying that the toxic effect of S. marcescens on the seedlings was QS-regulated. Meanwhile, excess lactonase in S. marcescens led to reduction in antibacterial substances, exoenzymes, and swarming motility, which might contribute to pathogensis on the seedlings. Root exudates and root tuber extracts of P. heterophylla significantly promoted the growth of S. marcescens, whereas a slight increase of B. thuringiensis was observed in both samples. These results demonstrated that QS-regulated behaviors in S. marcescens mediated by root exudates played an important role in replanting diseases of P. heterophylla.

        A novel ID-based multi-domain handover protocol for mesh points in WMNs

        Wireless mesh networks (WMNs) provide an efficient and flexible method to the field of wireless networking, but also bring many security issues. A mesh point may lose all of its available links during its movement. Thus, the mesh point needs to handover to a new mesh point in order to obtain access to the network again. For multi-domain WMNs, we proposed a new ID-based signcryption scheme and accordingly present a novel ID-based handover protocol for mesh points. The mutual authentication and key establishment of two mesh points which belong to different trust domains can be achieved by using a single one-round message exchange during the authentication phase. The authentication server is not involved in our handover authentication protocol so that mutual authentication can be completed directly by the mesh points. Meanwhile, the data transmitted between the two mesh points can be carried by the authentication messages. Moreover, there are no restrictions on the PKG system parameters in our proposed multi-domain ID-based signcryption scheme so our handover scheme can be easily applied to real WMNs circumstances. Security of the signcryption scheme is proved in the random oracle model. It shows that our protocol satisfies the basic security requirements and is resistant to existing attacks based on the security of the signcryption. The analysis of the performance demonstrates that the protocol is efficient and suitable for the multi-domain WMNs environment.

      • A GPU-based Parallel Ant Colony Algorithm for Scientific Workflow Scheduling

        Scientific workflow scheduling problem is a combinatorial optimization problem. In the real application, the scientific workflow generally has thousands of task nodes. Scheduling large-scale workflow has huge computational overhead. In this paper, a parallel algorithm for scientific workflow scheduling is proposed so that the computing speed can be improved greatly. Our method used ant colony optimization approaches on the GPU. Thousands of GPU threads can parallel construct solutions. The parallel ant colony algorithm for workflow scheduling was implemented with CUDA C language. Scheduling problem instances with different scales were tested both in our parallel algorithm and CPU sequential algorithm. The experimental results on NVIDIA Tesla M2070 GPU show that our implementation for 1000 task nodes runs in 5 seconds, while a conventional sequential algorithm implementation runs in 104 seconds on Intel Xeon X5650 CPU. Thus, our GPU-based parallel algorithm implementation attains a speed-up factor of 20.7.

        Customized product design information feedback technology based on tentative design chain reconstruction

        The design process of customized products involves dynamic feedback on customer requirements, design alterations, design knowledge, and other information. Current technologies for designing customized products focus on implementing product functions, but are short of effective support for design information feedback. The paper introduces a feedback technology of customized product design information based on tentative design chain reconstruction, whereby a tentative design chain and a corresponding design assignment matrix (DAM) are built in accordance with the logical relationship between the design assignments of the customized product. The tentative design chain is reconstructed through matrix decomposition to optimize the implementation path of the design assignments. Based on the reciprocal relationship between information transfer and feedback path for the design of a customized product, the feedback path of the customized product design information is extracted. The implementation method for feedback are put forward so that the design strategy of the customized product can be adjusted promptly with the feedback information between assignments. The feedback technology of the customized product design information based on the tentative design chain reconstruction is verified by application in the design of the elevator traction sheave. The results show that it helps to reduce the degree of the cross correlation between design assignments, and simplifies the design process of the elevator traction wheel.
